[Q] Carbon Fibers? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed carbon rom and loved the carbon fibers settings, but the rom kept crashing and i had to go back to pa android. i also love pa android but want more tun-ability. Is there an apk or way to install carbon fibers in pa android or something similar?
thank you!

The carbon rom kept crashing because you didn't wipe everything prior to it's installation. Did you wipe data, clear dalvic, format system and then flash the carbon rom and gapps??

Since you said the rom kept crashing, I thought you referred to the Android system fcs. Changing the keyboard might have solved it...
About the carbon settings apk... If the carbon settings in integrated to rom, then it won't work on any other roms even if you manage to find its apk and install it.

It's integrated within Settings.apk and in the framework itself. "Carbon Fibers" is just the menu in which you toggle/customize your options. Each ROM has it's own "customizations".
Carbon is mostly "stable"; nightly builds but most are daily-driver capable. You probably forgot to wipe or something. I have never experienced instability with the official ROM, only some in my own personal build when experimenting with things.

Just revert back to Carbon, and if your keyboard keeps crashing again, just download Google Keyboard from the play store.Simple as that. I had this issue myself, but upgrading to the next nightly fixed it.

Unfortunately, Android keyboard has stopped

I installed CM10 on my AT&T HTC One X and can't type anything as the keyboard keeps crashing. I've searched all over the net for a keyboard to install but everything like Swype requires you install it from the phone directly which I can't type on. Does anyone know of a solution to this crashing issue or somewhere that I can get an alternate KB?
Here's the issue, the keyboard keeps crashing and the home button doesn't work either.. the phone just vibrates when I press it. I installed the CM10 nightly build plus the gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip GAPPS. I've been searching all over and search keeps breaking on xda so I can't find much on here right now.

Try rolling back to the most recent stable version.
The new JB keyboard crashes on me whenever I try to save anything, but I'm running it on a Sense rom.

So you can't even interact with the "Select input method" dialogue in the notification pane? Because you should be able to remotely install a new keyboard through Play. Then once it's there, you can switch in the notification pane.
I'm having the same issue. Tried installing CM10 coming from CleanRom. Did a wipe before install.
Not only keyboard for me, home button doesn't work correctly and I cannot launch the browser.
Went back into recovery, flashed CM10 again, preformed not only a factory reset but also did a "system" wipe.
rebooted and things were fine.
rebooted back into recover and installed gapps, things are hosed again.
reproduced on gapps 4.2 and gapps-jb-20121130-signed.zip

OK,
Factory Reset and wipe "System"
Install CM10
Use gapps from 1011 - gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
Things are working.

I can't seem to find Wipe "System" in the Factory Reset. The only options I am given to wipe are the data and cache which I have tried doing and afterwards reinstalling CM10 and GAPPS-jb-20121011-signed.zip yet the "Unfortunately Android's Keyboard (ASOP) has stopped working" still pops up
I know you have tried one of these but ill quote what Inflatedtitan gave to me when i had the same problem.
"Sounds like there could be a few problems so were gonna go with the most popular ones lol..
1. Sounds like you didn't wipe everything in twrp before you flashed. Make your you always wipe cache, dalvick, factory reset, and system. Then flash Rom followed by gapps.. then reboot
2. Have you restored from a titanium backup? If so, make sure next time its ONLY user apps.. if you restore system apps and data, think of your system settings from one Rom clashing with the system files from your new Rom. They won't play nice together. Only backup and restore user apps+data
3. If the above steps were taken correctly, I would delete the Rom.zip from phone. Maybe download using a different browser. Chrome browser is notorious for corrupting roms.. you could have had a bad download
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2"
With these steps I got my ROM working so maybe it could help you.
The issue y'all are having is coming from the newest gapps. Install a older gapps and you will be up and running. I had the same issue on my tab 7.0 and hox and reinstalling new gapps worked

I had the same problem as others here, keyboard would stop working as soon as my One X started. The above fixed it. I only wiped System, did not Factory Reset. Make sure you're using the above version JB Gapps.
I've seen this issue when I accidentally forget to wipe something. I've found I have to wipe, flash previously working Rom, THEN go back, wipe and install new rom.

[Q] Periodic Freezes/Crashes with Cyanogenmod 10.1.3

Has anyone had problems with the new Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 freezing and crashing periodically?
I did a brand new clean full reinstall (not an upgrade). Still have the problem.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
Thank you.

Not familiar with volting. How do I know/check to see if I'm doing that?
I was running CM 10.2 and it was working. Suppose I could go back. I'd just prefer to stay at 10.3 if I can fix this. Reason is that I would want to do a clean install of 10.2 and that would require all the formatting, app set up etc. Don't want to load up from my nandoid since I simply installed updates from CM 10.1 up through 10.2 and things started to get corrupted.
Thanks.
Chances are you're not undervolting then. Custom kernels allow us to do that.
Sounds like you've been taking the nightly updates and after awhile the problem arise?
I'd try to clean cache, clean dalvik cache, and fix permissions. Then reboot.
Of that doesn't work, then would have to do a clean reinstall

No - haven't been taking the nightlies. Only the stable versions.
In installed CM 10.1.3 as a clean install twice - including cleaning the cache and the dalvik cache.
I actually saw another mention on the web about another GSIII user seeming to have the same problem.

4.3 AOSP Dialer issues

So for some reason my phone doesn't like the dialer on every 4.3 AOSP ROM I've tried. I've been on Slim bean, Eclipse and now Liquid Smooth. I get a force close whenever I open the dialer on all these ROMs. I just Odin'd back to stock and rooted using the casual method. This hasn't happened on 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 ROMs. Something on my phone doesn't like it. I just can't figure it out. I thought going back to stock and starting from fresh would help it. Please don't ask if I dirty flash. I never do. I wipe everything a minimum of 3 times and have even wiped internal storage.
I'm using ex dialer and it works just fine. And I disabled the stock phone app. Makes me think it's a graphical issue.
Would switching kernels help?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Are you using the gapps that come with Slim? I believe that message means that the gapps package you're using is conflicted with something in the ROM or vice versa. I'm on Slim with their AIO and not having the same issue.
For example, I used to test Slim for Cordell and had the same thing happen. It happened because he forgot he had updated the gapps package he was using and I was still using the one from the site. Once I flashes the correct gapps, then the issue was solved.
I always download the correct gapps and I did so from the slim ROM website. I tried two different gapps packages from there, AIO and aroma gapps, and it still happened. This same thing happened on two other 4.3 ROMs as well, Eclipse 6.0(4.3) and LS 2.10 with the 20130813.zip gapps.
It just doesn't add up but it's still not enough of a deal breaker for me to leave 4.3 ROMs.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
ExDialer is awsome, I never use the stock one anymore. I'd move on and not worry about it.
Sent from my GS3 running Pac-Man ROM 4.3 nightlies with KT747 Kernel
Sorry, not sure what it could be. Only other thing would be the kernel
So I had the issue on root box 4.2.2. I have been on this ROM before with no issues. It worked right after the initial boot up. But after I finished downloading apps from play store and a couple from my SD card is when it started not working. Pretty sure it's not rom, gapps or kernel related. If I felt like it and had the time, I'd wipe and start over but I just don't feel like doing that right now. If I ever switch to another AOSP ROM, I will try just downloading apps from the play store and seeing if that fixes it. It's just weird, that I removed all apps installed from my SD card and it still won't work. I install all of the same apps on tw ROMs and have never had these problems. Oh well. I will stick with ex dialer.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Wow! That was easier than I thought. I was using Super Backup and restoring my call logs across different ROMs. This is what was causing my dialer app to crash. All I did was go into the dialer app settings and looked at the permissions for the app and it just came to me. Maybe if I clear my call log it will work. So I did and immediately it worked. Didn't even have to reboot. Such a relief to know that the problems weren't with the ROM.

Slimkat apps won't invert?

I've had the latest stable slimkat ROM, with slim gapps installed. When I turn darkslim on in settings none of the apps will invert. Tried weekly ROM and gapps, same problem. Not sure when this started happening, but it did work roughly a month or more ago. Tried a clean install, same. Tried both dalvik and art, same. Nothing I do results in inverted apps. Any suggestions?
Does slimkat actually invert gapps? Not sure if it does, cause it doesn't for me.
Try flashing an inverted gapps.

Yes it does, its called TRDS and it's always worked for me with the latest slim gapps.
FYI Gmail hasn't been invertable for a while and now nor is play store as of yet

The problem is google are in the process of updating all their apps to the material design. Google now / search oesn't invert either i believe. You can go back to an older gapps but you'll be pushed updates via play.
There is actually a slim gapps thread:

Okay, I saw the thread but didn't see this mentioned. Thanks for the explanation, I'll try to search a little harder next time

Glad to see you're working on the ovation version as well. I've upgraded from your 14.1 version to this one but I've been getting an error on the slimkat boot. I've used the twrp 3.1.1, factory reset, fresh install. The error was about data mounting. In the 14.1 I had both data and cache under the f2f system. When I installed back your 14.1 version, everything was back to normal, no errors. Do I need to format data and cache to ext4 for this slimkat version to work?

What build are you using?
I used this one Slim-ovation-4.4.4.build.9.14-UNOFFICIAL-20180108-1016.zip and this one lineage-14.1-20171216-UNOFFICIAL-ovation.zip as well as open_gapps-arm-4.4-pico-20180110.zip.
I saw you've put a 01-10 build today, I will try it and report back.
I tried the 01-10 build and it didn't work for me either. But this time I took a photo of the error. Hopefully this will help.
update:
went straight back to twrp and format data and cache to ext4 and it worked. I didn't do a factory reset or reinstall, just changed the formats and reboot.
Looks good so far, thank you for all the hard work #secretwolf98

Google play seem to gives me problems, either crushes, or exists often. Also the nook button doesn't seem to work. Otherwise this new interface is beautiful and this rom looks very promising.

Testing Slim-ovation-4.4.4.build.9.14-UNOFFICIAL-20180123-1611.zip, this is a logcat with amaces TWRP, all partitions wiped, and only the rom installed:
https://pastebin.com/LW6QFY27
This is the same as above, but with with verygreen cwm and I opened more apps:
https://pastebin.com/FQnTR1c2
This is the same as above after switching to art:
https://pastebin.com/4vJE7miZ
The biggest issue is with Chromium, it crashes with this strange error:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Couldn't load chromium_android_linker from loader dalvik.system.PathClassLoader[DexPathList[[zip file "/system/app/Chromium.apk"],nativeLibraryDirectories=[/vendor/lib, /system/lib]]]: findLibrary returned null
The graphics seem unstable with hardware overlays, you can really see it when opening/closing Downloads and DSP Manager.

Recovery Version
I haven't done much with my HD+ since loading up CM a while back (I'm on 4.4.4 I think). Wanted to give this ROM a try since the CM one likes to reboot every day or two when it get's thinking too hard.
Question is, can I flash this with my current recovery? I'm using CWM 6.0.4.6 right now. Not sure if I needed to switch to TWRP and if so what version?
Other then wiping Data / Cache and installing the zip, anything else off hand I need to know?
Thanks all!

Which gapps do I use with this ROM? All that I've tried crash. I've used Open gapps and I dug up a zip from Slimroms.
Aside from the inability to use google play services, this rom is looking great.

open GAPPS - play store partially loads then FCs
PA - fails to install "incompatible gapps already installed" even though there isn't any.
slim gapps from the old site - can't sign in, play services FCs
Also, why isn't there a browser built in?
EDIT: It seems CWM doesn't completely clear my previous attempts when wiping. Is there a recovery that'll do an actual full wipe? Latest TWRP is broken for older android versions.
