Alright guys, I know a lot of you smart guys already have your Gear 2 like this but I was unable to find very many Gear 2 and non-android phone videos on YouTube so I made one. This is fully stock Gear 2 working with LG Optimus L70 from AIO/New Cricket.
Everything works. I even changed the S-Voice voice to use the Google Now voice. Watch the entire video if you are wondering how. (Not a tutorial just demo)

Correct, however I am working on getting to work with Google Now for real and not just the voice.
How did you get S-voice to send a text? I followed the same steps, but my S-Voice say messaging is not supported on this device. What stock app are you using on your phone?

I followed the same instructions also, but unable to tell it to send a text message like you did at the end of your video. I've got an LG G2, so I can't imagine our phones are that far apart from one another. When I tell it to send a text message, it say my device is not supported..

Yeah I don't think the differences are very big between the two devices. It is weird yours doesn't work.
S-Voice on my LG isn't flawless. It doesn't know when to stop listening. I have to manually tap the mic to make it stop.
By the way I am using Gear 2 model SM-R380 with software version R3AF201CZ3N
I made a YouTube video showing how I got the Gear 2 working with non-Galaxy
http://youtu.be/Yp5H4UAWSTk
I still have to retrace my steps on how I got the Google Now voice, once I figure it out I will make a video showing how to do it. I had integrated Google Now prior to getting the Gear 2 so when I set it all up, it just worked without me doing anything in particular.
Can you test the exercise for me
Can you see if the Run and Bike part work with a non samsung phone. It uses the GPS from the phone. I run and bike a lot and need this feature.
I ordered an LG G3 from overseas but its a deal breaker if I cannot get the GPS part working with the exercises.

Query
When you say non-galaxy devices do you mean devices that are still running android 4.3+ with touch wiz, or will this work with custom roms?

Why do they always say non samsung device when most of us just want to use our note 3 on AOSP rom . Wouldn't it be better to say non touch wiz. Also will this work on android 4.4.4?

Im pretty new to this phone, bought it around a week ago, already got it all rooted and ready for new ROMS. The only thing that bites by butt is since this phone has the front camera, how come google talk doesnt support the video chat on this?? Is it restricted cuz of the crappy QIK Video call? Any way to enable video call on gtalk on this device?

Kinda wonky to get it going at first, but it works great. I have had calls freeze up after 10 min or so. Not sure what that is about.
The latest update from HTC now supports Google Talk Video chat on the MT4GS. It has taken much longer than it should have but the support is now there. Yeah!

There are several texting apps in the Play Store. My personal favorite is TextNow. The only caveat is that you tell it what area code you are in, and they assign you a "phone number" and that is the number your texts come from. You may end up getting a phone number from the area code you enter, or you may not, it just depends upon what's available. As long as the people you text know it's "you" and list it as one of your "phone numbers" it does not really matter.
You can even buy "credits" and make and receive voice calls using this number.

I rooted mine today without issue and hope that there will be all the other goodies available like on my samsung phone. MagicJack also works for free phone call's. They give you a random Florida or Wisconsin number when you make a call, and no one can call you back, but for free it's nice. I think if you have a MagicJack hardware device you can use that number with the APP and have in/out calls free over wifi. It works very well with my Verizon Galaxy Nexus (unlimited data plan) on wifi tether
Has anyone been able to get the smart dialer from the Nexus 5 working on the Moto X? I have a Nexus 5 and and the smart search feature in the dialer was actually really nice to use. For those who don't realize what I am talking about- this is the feature in the dialer where you can search "AutoZone" within the dialer and it will pull up the 3 listings closest to you. Also when you call local businesses it displays their name and picture instead of just the phone number.
I'm trying to decide between the Moto X or the N5 and it is such a hard decision every little thing is factoring in. Thanks!
Edit:
Some people later in the thread have had success with this dialer apk in the download link below:
https://mega.co.nz/#!6F02QYrS!gDMx9P...vgZjA6XgLHAi68
Let me tell you from my own experience. I bought a nexus 5 moments after launch. Upon receiving it, I liked it but its really barley different from the nexus 4 (which I was coming from) other than kit Kat. Fast forward 3 weeks, I sold my nexus and bought a moto x. I'm much happier with this device. Its way more innovative than the nexus 5. Touchless control and active display are amazing. As far as hardware I notice no difference. The display is just as good but in a different way. And the camera may not be better but takes good pictures. Overall I'm 100% happy with my decision and will never look back.

Thanks for weighing in there. I actually think the Nexus 5 is an amazing phone. Each phone has pros and cons. The Smart Dialer being a pro of the Nexus 5 since I was actually using the feature. So back to my original question, anyone? anyone?
I'm guessing it is more than just installing the N5 dialer apk otherwise it would be readily available for install.

Feels more like you are searching for someone in your contact list vs. googling the number. Time wise it is probably the same if you are quick with google now. It is nice having the functionality in the dialer app vs switching over to google now if I am already in the dialer. The caller id feature is what I really like about it though. Say yesterday I called Autozone and then I need to call them again today, I can completely skip over opening google now and repeating the search process, just go straight to my history, see the name and location of the Autozone (especially helpful I I had called multiple locations) I called and click to call, no searching, no trying to remember what time of day I called them yesterday, what number it was, etc.

With the new dialer it would be labeled in the history as AutoZone + location info, with the stock dialer all you see is the number, so if you have called many numbers that are not in your contacts then good luck remember which number was AutoZone in your history.
Anyhow I switched back to my Nexus 5 anyway as I decided I liked it better than the Moto X, so for me this thread is now a moot point.
