You can use MyFi app available on Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=share.hotspot.myfi
See also this post:

I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy S Relay, which is unlocked, and it is working fine here in the UK. I love the phone, as I am a fan of a slide out keyboard.
But I would also like to use the wifi hotspot feature. Once I get my head round what the CM udpate does, and how I install it, I will probably take the plunge and have a go.
In the meantime, I could do with something simple to get the wifi hotspot working. I tried the myfi app suggested here, which appeared to turn the hotspot on, but it did not actually do so because it was not visible from any other device.
So is there a patch to enable the wifi hotspot on this phone? If so, where can I find it and how do I install it?
(none of the links in this thread seemed to take me to the patch).
Many thanks,
Pete

[Q] T-Mobile Xperia Z3 Tethering - D6616 - No Root options

Has anyone found any way to get non-root tethering to work? PDAnet+ USB tethering works, but I'm trying to see if there's a means to get wifi tethering to work. None of the online methods I've found seem to work with the Z3.

I'm using the stock app for tethering and it works just fine. Does the stock app not work for you?
Does your T-Mobile plan include tethering? @lowfatcreamcheese
My plan does not include tethering.
Same situation here... Did you find a way to do it?
Am always on the go cause of work and school so WiFi tether is a must for me.
I think root is the only way you're going to have wifi tethering. I really like the phone but between QC issues and losing some root options like tethering I'm starting to wonder if I should have stuck with the galaxy line.
Okay guess am not getting it... I have the LG g3 and I was thinking of getting the z3 but WiFi tether is very important for. Thanks for me. Thanks for the reply

On the T mobile firmware, when you start the hotspot it checks for a brief second your account so some system app tells t mobile you're enabling it.
On my previous T mobile Xperia Z I used a generic firmware so the hotspot worked no matter if you have the hotspot service or not.
On my t mobile Z3 I have hotspot service so the tether works great via wifi, bluetooth or usb.
Typed on my Xperia Z3 while underwater.
I guess it's going to be moot in a month or so. TMobile sent me a postcard, looks like they're getting rid of grandfathered plans. I believe all plans minus maybe the prepaid ones have tethering now.

I am using inbuilt tethering app to create wifi access point from my phone. Try that it should work. Not sure why you need 3rd party app for wifi tethering.

You just setup the hotspot, it is pretty straight forward. Just give it a try.
I am on T Mobile USA so wifi tethering is part of my plan. You will have to keep it on or can try some hacks on the net. I haven't tried them though.

[Q] [Q&A] What, exactly, do I need to enable wifi tether on VZW without subscribing?

[Q] [Q&A] What, exactly, do I need to enable wifi tether on VZW without subscribing?
I am the new owner of a slightly used HTC One M8 on Verizon. Previous owner already OTA'd to Lollipop (thanks a lot) but I have not been using the phone long and have no problem doing a factory wipe if need be.
I have no interest, really, in custom ROMs or fancy features, except for exactly one: I NEED to use this phone as a wifi hotspot and I am not giving the crooks at Verizon $30/month for it (I am on unlimited data, hence buying a used phone instead of doing an upgrade).
I am something of an amateur at this, but I did successfully root, S-OFF, etc. my prior phone (HTC Thunderbolt) to work as a WiFi hotspot, so I know the basics.
What, exactly, do I need to have wifi tether? "Unlocked"? "Perma Root"? "S-OFF"? Recovery?
If you can get S-off you got the rest: unlocked bootloader, ability to flash a custom recovery and root. And you'll need all that to unlock the hotspot feature.
The bad news is, there is only Sunshine to achieve it, the LP version has not been released and from what I hear it won't work on the latest 5.0.1 VZW update.....
But there's always hope...
Check on theroot.ninja
Thanks. Looks like I will have to pay VZW until Sunshine updates.
WiFi Tether Router in PlayStore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter
I am still 4.4.4 and TempRooted with Weaksauce2 and it works for me. Unfortunately, pay to play.
Isn't mobile hotspot part of stock? (Never have used tether but I believe thats when you use the computer's Internet connection for your phone to have Internet)
edit: tether would appear to use the Phone's Wifi via USB or bluetooth
edit2: Mobile Network sharing also has options built in for tethering on stock rom
Settings/more/Mobile Network Sharing
I used Sunshine last night and got root. I then used this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/development/mod-enabledefualttether2-21-605-2vzw4-4-t2874772
Before root, WiFi Tether Router, above, worked fine.

[Q] FoxFi or WiFi Tether

Does anyone know if FoxFi tethering will work on the S6? I know methods were figured out for the S5 but will this carry over to the S6?

Probably wont know till we actually get the phone but I have heard FoxFi works for non rooted phones
bump +1
I believe wifi tether is Root only
This is probably the most important questions for me also. I still have unlimited data and use wifi tethering every day.
If we can get Foxfi, then I might actually get this phone. WiFi tethering with my unlimited plan is really my only "must have" for root.

I can confirm FoxFi works on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6. It worked the first time I tried it, exactly the same steps as on an HTC Droid DNA (create certificate - one time procedure, enable security protection e.g. screen lock; I used the S6's fingerprint reader - one time procedure, turn on Hot Spot in settings menu - repeat procedure, and voila).
Cheers.

I can confirm that FoxFi works also.
1. Open FoxFi
2. Click Activate WiFi Hotspot check box
3. Tells you to go to settings within 30 seconds (also has a button).
4. In Settings window turn on Mobile Hotspot
5. Profit.
EDIT: I am on a grandfathered unlimited data plan through Verizon.

Do you have an unlimited data plan?
Yes I am on an unlimited data plan, sorry forgot to mention that. I'll edit my original message.
I'm on a UDP and can also confirm Foxfi works as it always does.
Does FoxFi work alright on a non-rooted S6 with the latest firmware?
I see that all these posts are from April or earlier....can somebody please confirm to me that this still works? That you can wirelessly tether to your heart's content on the S6 NON-rooted via Foxfi? I want to get the S6 but since the latest firmware can't be rooted I would be screwed UNLESS this still works....then I can look past not being rooted....at least for now.
I tether everyday for work and I am on unlimited data and my S3 is getting a tad.....old.

Do you have the free version or paid version of it? When you first installed it on your s6 did it ask you for a credentials password? I went to install it on my S3 to test it and it asked me for that and I have no clue what that was and couldn't get past that.....
Paid version and yes you have to do credentials. But with s6 if you have finger print unlock set up your all good to go.

I don't know what the credentials are, that's the problem. Do I need to do something before I install and run foxfi?
No just hit ok then turn on foxfi then it will take you to hot spot on phone. Just turn on and your done. Instructions are on foxfi play store

I got it to work on my S3 after messing with lock screen settings.
So you are on the "AOF1" firmware and it works fine everyday, correct? I am just paranoid that I will get the S6 and then it will not work for me. I have to have working tethering for my work and I'm not about to pay Verizon more $.
Yes aof1 5.0.2. Works everyday

Do you have unlimited data thru Verizon and can Verizon detect that you are using that or are you getting away with it?

I currently have the the stock version (5.02) on my Verizon Galaxy S6 and I'm affraid to do the software update. I'm currently using Foxfi with no problems, however I'd like to do the software update. But.... I'm hearing Foxfi may not work with the software update for those who have unlimited data with Verizon.
So I have two questions:
1) What android version are you currently running?
2) And, do you have unlimited data?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro Verizon hotspot?

Hi, I'm looking at buying a unlocked xcover pro and using it on the Verizon network. I can't really find much info on this phone. It looks like they are 100% unlocked(not sure on the Verizon variant) and you can unlock the bootloader right from settings.
My question/dilemma is will Verizon block my hotspot on the device as I do not pay for the subscription. I am on the old unlimited grandfather plan and have been using the hotspot for wifi for years as I travel a lot for work.
I'd also like to know if it's possible to install a custom Rom on this, and if so which one? I've been looking but there's nothing I can find specific to this phone and I'm pretty inexperienced with this stuff.
I currently use a verizon lg v20 that has been unlocked with custom Rom/firmware and I was able to get around the subscription hotspot lock with it.
Thanks in advance for any input.
Small world. I am also considering the Xcover Pro and currently running the V20 with a custom ROM.
Looking forward to replies to this post.

I just got the phone today....got it powered on, turned on hotspot right away. It seemed to be working fine. Got a bunch of apps installed and stuff and was streaming videos on my laptop. After a good hour or so I got disconnected. Re-connected and got the verizon hotspot verification error. Well ****....
Went to check out how to unlock the bootloader and the OEM unlock option is missing in the dev options like everywhere online says it will be.
Had to run to town. now im back and just went to try hopspot again and its been working a good 20 minutes or so. Im typing this on my laptop that is connected to the hotspot, but im pretty sure I will get knocked off again. Not sure what to do now.
Were you ever able to get the hotspot working?

Yeah. Been using this for about a month now. Have not updated the OS on it yet. Only had the issue 1 time where it asked for a Verizon subscription and then I rebooted a few times and has been working since. I use it every day.
I dont know what would happen if I updated the OS on it, but I'm not going to try it. Hope this helps any1 looking to buy one of these. I really like the phone.
