I have a pretty cool one that is made for the M8 that follows a Matrix theme with the falling letters. I know the Matrix is old school but it looks pretty cool. Let me know if you want to take a look and I'll throw it up on dropbox. Of course it has the obligatory HTC stuff in it as well.
Heck yes. Is it flashable?

No it is not flashable. You just copy it to the appropriate directory.
It is going up now and is a 19meg file but it is gorgeous.
File is named vzw_bootup.zip That is what the boot animation file is called on my verizon M8.
Look in the system/customize/resource folder. There are a few other boot animations in there but the one my M8 from Verizon uses is named as stated above.
Steps.
1. Using ROOT Explorer or similar file browser locate old boot animation in folder system/customize/resource Rename the file just adding a .bak extension (Old animation will now be named vzw_bootup.zip.bak
This will keep you a copy of the original.
2. Copy the downloaded zip file to the same directory. Maintain the vzw_bootup.zip file name. Change the directory back to RO and reboot.
Let me know how you like it.

It is only boot up. The boot down is in the same directory.
When I say obligatory HTC stuff, I mean that it is made for the HTC phone. If starts off the animation with "HTC" then does the blue rain whille zooming in "One M8" then the android loge. Then it ends with an animation of it typing out "HTC quietly brilliant"

FWIW, this doesn't say M8, just One. Also, the variant I am running says "quietly root" at the end.
The thread for those animations is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357926.

This one is a flashable version for the green variant, and includes the audio. This is a non-flashable blue variant (rename vzw_bootup.zip and place in \system\customize\resource). That's all I can find.

Hello. I am aware that I can use adb to change my boot animation but I also heard that you can use boot explorer as well but I am not sure how. Can anyone explain? Thanks.

You should be able use Root Explorer to copy the VZW_bootanimation.zip and replace the old one in the \system\customize\resource\ folder then reboot.
May be a product of my Virtuous ROM, but my HW Rev 003 SLCD Dinc has it in /system/media/ Just rename the existing to bootanimation.old and copy a new one in using Root Explorer and it took and ran.
Uh, I have skyraider. In skyraider the old one was in the system/media folder but when I replaced it, nothing happened. Anyone with skyraider?

Ensure you select "mount as R/W" before you try to replace it.
Make sure your new zip file has the exact same name as the old one.
Extract your new zip contents and compare it to the old zip contents to ensure you have all the required files. It should have a text file labeled "desc.txt" and at least one folder labeled "part0".
The text file is basically instructions for how to display the folder contents (which are bunch of png's) so that they make up an animation.
Good luck my friend.
Well, I tried replacing both the shutdown and the boot one and neither worked. The shutdown one is just a blank screen while the boot is still the same. One thing to note though is that the boot screen isn't the Droid eye one but the one with the android dancing. I thought that was supposed to go away after the first boot so that may be a problem. Thanks for the help so far

Any suggestions?

Sorry I am a little new to this and couldn't find directions for how to rename them. I tried loading a file called "bootanimation.zip" and that didn't work and then I tried this "htc_bootanimation.zip"
I have read that you should boot the bootanimation.zip file in one of two locations... and yet neither seem to get the bootanimation file to run:
system/customize/resource/ or /system/data/local
Do you know how I should do this for ARHD 4.1.8?
Thanks,
Kate

If it's anything like the original LG rom, the shutdown animation is controlled by an apk. Try looking for and removing that.

As wewo said, the shutdown animation on the g2x is controlled by poweroff.apk it works pretty much the same as a boot animation but is controlled by a XML instead of a txt file. You might be able to delete the apk but idk what will happen if you do.
You could also pull the image folder out with 7zip and make them all black. I have a power off.apk made from weapons boot animation in my weapon new clip mod. Feel free to pull it and use it if you want.

First of all, excuse me in advance for my english, I didn’t my best !!
I have the same problem. I have a LG-P999 (optimus G2X) with Videotron.
I easely change my bootanimation, but for the Poweroff animation, I didn’t find the way to change the animation after 3 days of recherche on the web….
If I desinstall the app with ‘’SystemApp remover’’ and I take the original APK file in ‘’/system/app/PowerOff.apk’’ the installation work well and when I closer the phone all is ok and the logo of videotron appear.
So I tried the tricks I saw on the web :
1 - Take the original ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ file, open it with ‘’winzip’’.Replace the .png file by other one in same format. Deleter the file ‘’/system/app/PowerOff.apk’’ and replace it by the modified one. Result, when I close the phone, the phone close and restart with no image. If I try to install the file, the installation doesn’t work.
2 - Take the original ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ file, open it with ‘’apkmanager’’. In the folder ‘’PowerOff.apk’’, I replace the .png file by other one in same format. After I Zip the modified folder ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ with ‘’apkmanager’’ and select system file. Deleter the file ‘’/system/app/PowerOff.apk’’ and replace it by the modified one. Result, when I close the phone, the phone close and restart with no image. If I try to install the file, the installation doesn’t work.
3 - If I take ‘’apkmanager’’ I extract the APK for code file (option 9) and after ZIP it (option 11) for system file, they ask me to select the file in the original apk file for the files who are not modified. If I select that the program import anything from the original file (with the logo of videotron). If I try to install the file, the installation works, but it’s a copy of the original…. If I didn’t choose the option the copy from the original file, I have the same problem of point no.2.
4 - If I dont desinstall the original ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ file but I remove it from the folder file ‘’/system/app/’’, the shutdown of the cell phone work normally with the logo of videotron…
So my question is, do they have anybody here who can read the code of the original file and say me if when I install it, it extract the ‘’.png’’ file in an other file in the cell phone ?? (Because of the point no.4)
Can you say me why I create a new apk file with ‘’apkmanager’’ I cannot install it on the phone, it give me an error and it only write ‘’the app have been not installed’’ or simething like that… Maybe, if I modify the file, the phone don’t recognize the news signature on it or something like that ???
Here is the link of the original file and the modified file :

Hey XsMagical I use this updater script for my bootanimations etc as stated before. I never tried a downanimation until yesterday. The script worked and pushed the downanimation.zip to system/customize/resource but it didnt "stick". Once I turned phone off the old animation played.
Stumped as to what could have happened I went over everything and made sure it was ok. Finally I just renamed the pushed downanimation.zip to hTC_downanimation.zip and it stuck then.
Is there something missing in the script that would allow the downanimation.zip to be used instead of having to rename it?
The bootanimation.zip works fine flashes over to phone and sticks. The downanimation.zip however has to be renamed to hTC_downanimation.zip for it to stick.
Thanks

Whatever its named is what it needs to be named to overwrite it. In the code its looking for a particular name so if u name it something other than what the original is named it won't recognize it. So obviously the script is ok because it pushed it there but the name was wrong. Try using the original name and see if it over writes it. Hope that made sense.

Yea it made sense lol. I asked because in the zip I can leave bootanimation.zip that name even though the name on phone is ATT_bootanimation.zip, when flashed it will place the bootanimation.zip in the right location and make ATT_bootanimation void not replacing it but both zips in same location. Phone then will use the bootanimation.zip instead even though both are still there.
With the downanimation.zip in the updater zip it has to be renamed to hTC_downanimation.zip thus replacing the existing zip to work.
No major problem was just wondering y the phone would recognize and use bootanimation.zip over the still existing ATT_bootanimation.zip that doesn't get replaced but not the downanimation.zip
Thanks for your help
Ross.

So I'm back with another new bootanimation and bootlogo to go with it! This time, I went for a clean white Moto X type thing, and ended up recreating the GPE bootani in the process to finish it off. Check out the demo below:
Download:
Bootanimation
Bootlogo
To install the bootanimation, put the zip in /system/media
To install the bootlogo,
FOR LOCKED BOOTLOADER USERS
Extract the bmp file, use fastboot and type
Code:
fastboot flash clogo <image.bmp>
where image is the name of the picture.
FOR UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER USERS
Extract the .bin file, use fastboot and type
Code:
fastboot flash logo <image.bin>
(Thanks to lensgrabber for supplying the bin file!)
Enjoy!
I just copied bootanimation.zip tp my system/media and changed the permissions rebooted the phone. Now i get android in a different font and starts up normally. Am i missing anything?
Edit: Nevermind. There was an extra space in the name. Working now. Thanks
This looks good. Anyone care to make a logo.bin file from the bmp?

Okay this took me a while to track down but I think I got it. This is for unlocked bootloaders flashing over the unlocked warning picture. For all others use the clogo method in the OP.

You can use it on any Moto X, and probably the new Droid line too, but it was made for the X.
As for flashing, you don't flash this package, as it's not a flashable zip. It's just a bootanimation, and zip is the format they come in. You just have to place it in /system/media. You'll need root to get there though.
I was missing the GPE bootanimation from my GNexus. This looks incredible though. Nice work!

The bootanimation.zip needs to be named exactly that in your system>media. Make sure you delete the original bootanimation.zip out of the media folder. Permissions for the bootanimation.zip should be rw-r-r. Reboot and should be good.

The bootanimation.zip needs to be named exactly that in your system>media. Make sure you delete the original bootanimation.zip out of the media folder. Permissions for the bootanimation.zip should be rw-r-r. Reboot and should be good.

Sorry, but i don't understand... there are two zipped files: one is the file in system/media, named bootanimation.zip, other file also named bootanimation.zip that i downloaded from here. I delete the first one with rootexplorer and copy the second then modified the permissions, but at the boot i have again the old bootanimation.zip ....
Are u sure u deleted the right one. Rename the one downloaded here as Newbootanimation.zip before moving it to your system. When its in that folder, delete bootanimation.zip (old one) then rename the Newbootanimation.zip to just bootanimation.zip and re permission to rw-r-r try that one more.
