[Q] Root - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know an fairly successful root for the XT926? all methods so far have failed.

Are updated to kit Kat? If yes then no method available.

No it is on 4.1.2

Specifically, which version of 4.1.2? Depending on which version you have, you either can use the old root method (http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...ot-razr-hd-xt926-for-locked-devices-on-91879/) or the new method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602592).
Only use the new method if you are on 9.30.1. Anything before that can use the one before that.

I am on the 9.30.1 sorry when I Googled the root I couldn't find one for this version.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I am not boot loader unlocked but I will give it a try.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Then you want the new root method (known as Saferoot). Not sure why you mentioned you have a locked bootloader, because if you did have an unlocked bootloader, then you wouldn't have to use any of the methods I just posted. You could just sideload it via a custom recovery. But, since you have a locked bootloader, then you have to use the Saferoot method since you are on 9.30.1.

Ok I will use the second link in your post and try it out. I am understanding that there is no unlock for the 9.30.1 bootloader am I correct?

Correct. The only way to unlock it now is if Motorola/Verizon allows it to be. Otherwise, the exploit that use to exist is no longer available as it has been patched and there is no way to go back and put the exploit back in. It's been patched and lost forever.
But, with the Saferoot option, you can still root the phone. However, DO NOT GO TO KITKAT! If you do, you will lose root for good. Some are trying to find a way to find a new exploit to allow rooting under KitKat, but at this time, there is no way to preserve root over to KitKat nor root KitKat.
So, if you wish to keep root, stay on 9.30.1 JB and pray that someone finds a way to root KitKat for locked bootloaders.

Don't worry about the KK update my dad updated and he can't teather WiFi now.

Yup. That exploit requires root as it is and it's been patched. There is a way to enable it, but it requires root, so unless you have root, WiFi tethering is gone under KitKat, at least hacking it for free is gone.
So is writing to the external SD card for apps. Apps can only write to a certain directory on the external SD card, unless you have root, which in case you can then hack it to work like it did under JB. otherwise, any apps that attempt to write to the external SD card won't be able to except for their directory under the Android/data directory. And then, if you uninstall the app, it wipes out all the files saved to the SD card.
Again, having root will fix this, but only if you have an unlocked bootloader since that is the only way to get root under KitKat for the XT926.

And you can unlock your bootloader again.
Who would have thought that Motorola would have reintroduced the exploit to allow unlocking of the bootloader? Wow! Must not have used a good code management system.
Too funny.

i think they thought you had a dev edition they probably were going to send you to there unlock site and it would not work ad they would say sorry byeeee

They said to use the android SDK and I told the woman that it is not a Dev edition. The woman was one of the generic call center people who probably didn't know how an android phone worked though.

You don't even need them, as it's been said. Just root KK and then go use Motopocalypse to unlock your bootloader.

Control. You control what your phone is able to do, not ATT.
Getting rid of the bloatware, ads, sideloading (amazon app store, anyone?), and of course, as mentioned, custom roms.

If all you want is free tethering follow this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960058&highlight=wifi+tether). Keep in mind - free means you don't have to pay the additional fee to ATT, but the data that's used while using wifi hotspot will still count against your data. The link to Bubby's 1 click has already been posted. Here's attn1's original hack kit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352) thread which was the original root method. Bubby's method packs this into a GUI
To the OP:
I don't know if there's a way to confirm whether or not your gold card was created successfully other than attempting to downgrade the ROM. If the downgrade completes, then you created a good gold card.
Pretty curious myself. Just starting the research phase as far as rooting goes.

Uproot before ota

I'm rooted with motoroot v1.1....can I just use the unroot function of the app and then install the ota update?
Thanks
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I have motoroot 1.1 also (only needed the entitlement hack) and my OTA worked with it rooted. Kept root too. Since it doesn't mess with the boot loader there wasn't a problem.

Ugh, now I'm getting a completely different story from the General forum. Someone there says you do have to unroot a Motoroot'ed device. Even says I have to use some new applications to do that. I don't see why I wouldnt be able to use Motoroot.
This is really getting confusing. Too many root methods for me to keep track of.
I certainly wouldn't want to steer you in the wrong direction, all I know is that motoroot 1.1 didn't replace the bootloader and that's why I wasn't afraid to take the OTA. The root methods that came after it did, and that's why I didn't install any of them.
Honestly, the Droid MAXX is the first Droid I've had that I didn't feel the desire to ROM... It's perfect the way it is. I had the OG, X, and Bionic prior to this phone and was constantly reflashing them with something new. The entitlement hack was all I needed for the MAXX.
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
Yep, I felt the same way. I use some apps that require root and I like the mobile hotspot. I don't plan on installing any custom Roms
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
So, I finally pulled the trigger on the update.
I was rooted with Motoroot v1.1.
I only have the mobile hotspot entitlement hack, and some apps that use root. I didnt make any other changes.
I installed the update without removing root. The update installed just fine. I have confirmed that phone still has root access and mobile hotspot still works.
How do I get rid of motoroot? I got this phone with it still in the system, but not in the drawer. I've done a factory reset and fxz. But when I try to install the app it says that the file already exists and cannot be installed.

I'm not 100% sure. That is a strange situation. It seems like someone tried to return to stock without removing the files first, maybe?
When you used the FXZ method, did you save data or do the clean install?
I did the clean install. I also tried to adb push the apk. But it says it already exists. Strange, I've never seen an app withstand a fxz, then two ota updates. I'm going to attempt the rockmymoto way tomorrow. I can't have an un rooted phone ha ha

[Q] verizon moto g - kitkat?

I have called customer service but they said prepaid isn't there focus :/ so uhhh... What? We just get screwed? How hard is it to release kitkat? Its out for every other carrier! Sorry I'm just so frustrated I can't reach anyone at Verizon that seams to know anything. My Verizon store didn't even know what a moto g was how do we get kitkat and will anyone ever get the boot loaderunlocked?
I've been wondering as well hopefully the answer isn't never. We shall see what kind of influence Motorola has over this device.
Sent from my Nexus 5
Unfortunately, Motorola has no say since Verizon is the one that also forced Motorola to keep the bootloader locked
Sent from my XT1028 using xda app-developers app
I'm impatiently waiting for the update as well. Verizon has officially stated "a 4.4 KitKat update is planned for the near future" (via SlashGear) so it is almost definitely coming.
Do you think anyone will figure out how to unlock the boot loader?
Stock ROM was mentioned somewhere... But maybe Motorola will decide to unlock it, cause right now they are acting like Verizon owns them

Why are you all waiting for kitkat? What feature are you missing? All I've experienced with kitkat is the loss of flash. You can kinda sorta get flash back, but it's a hacked version and not 100%. You can use the Google experience launcher on jellybean, just search for the app and install. I have a Nexus 7 and removed kitkat because it wouldn't play nice with my Kinivio blue tooth. Jellybean works fine. Other blue tooth players work fine with kitkat, just not that one for some reason. (Disconnects and inconsistent performance on kitkat).
Anyway, just saying; be careful what you wish for. Newer is not always better.

That's a good reason. I didn't remember having that on stock kit kat (uninstalled too quickly), but I do hide my navigation keys on jellybean. Of course we need root for that...

We would need 2ndinit for moto g, that would enable cwm/root without unlocking bootloader. I own a Moto Defy too, it has locked bootloader, with 2ndinit I have cwm and custom rom on it.

The Verizon Moto G bootloader can't be unlocked, but the Boost Mobile one can? Makes me very glad I'm not with Verizon.
But at least the Verizon one gets signal in every place that boost doesn't

I am very jealous I can not unlock/root the Verizon Moto G (xt1028). These app updates I would love to intergrate into system, to free up that space. 8GB is not much and it sucks having a good chunck of that used because of updates. Using Xposed to add a few features to the stock rom I want, would also be great.

Which system version are you on? Please don't say 4.1.2. Your system version will tell us if you can unlock.
I am on 9.16.6.xt926
After i unlock(if i do), would the best plan be to reset and update then root or reset, root then update?

if you removed anything from stock, you will have to use one of the utilities to flash it back to stock first. a reset wont make it start updating again or replace any stock apps you may have removed.
so, you will likely have to root afterwards, as the tool re-writes everything.

[Q] Bootloader Unlock??

Has anyone successfully unlock the bootloader on the Verizon Moto G XT1028??

Nope. Nothing short of a Chinese middleman or another exploit will save the xt1028.

Well I mean technically we could root it without bootloader unlock, but there are no *publicly* known exploits. There is a 4.4.4 root method for the X, and if I'm not mistaken this could be ported to this device but I guess no one really wants to do it
