[Q] flashing Galaxy S4.. PLEASE HELPP - General Questions and Answers

hello,
i rooted my galaxy s4 and ever since that, i keep getting the error "system UI has stopped".. so after doing a lot of research i found that only way to fix this is by flashing stock rom. so i need to flash UCUEMK2 into my SGH-I337 AT&T phone via odin. im not sure if i should include a PIT file along with the AP file? what should i do?
i dont want to brick this phone again, so someone please help me..
i would really appreciate your help. thank you!

if you download your stock rom from sammobile or samsungupdates, it will include only the necessary files. if it includes a .pit, use it, otherwise dont. (usually there isnt one)

Sammobile and other sites only have the 4.2.2 version, my phone has the ver 4.3 which i prefer.. So i should include the PIT file? And what are the chances or bricking this phone? Because im just after getting it fixed from a hard brick.. Thank you for your reply

how did you update to 4.3? if its a custom rom, you can just flash 4.2.2 again, then install the rom. if its by ota or kies, install 4.2.2 and update the same way again.

I dont think its a custom rom.. After i bricked my old motherboard i bought this new one from ebay.. It had 4.3 pre installed from OTA update i think.. Then i rooted the phone and kept getting the "system ui" error, then i unrooted the phone and hard reset it, didnt fix the problem. So im trying to flash UCUEMK2 which my phone already has.. 4.2.2 has many bugs and i cant send apps to memory card in 4.2.2 thats why im trying to get 4.3.. Thanks

so what i would do if i were in your place is download the 4.2.2. and then upgrate via ot or cutom rom. ill also try finding a 4.3 stock rom for you.
EDIT:
couldnt find 4.3 stock rom, youll have to do one of the above steps

I actually already have the PA file for the 4.3 already downloaded to my laptop but the tutorial i used told me to download the PIT file as well, and the comments that tutorial received werent good, and the other tutorials ive seen never used a pit files.. Thats y im confused.. It would be easy to flash 4.2.2 but the problem is i live in Ireland and we didnt get the 4.3 update here yet and i cant use OTA as its locked to AT&T.. Its very confusing i know.. But thank you so much for helping me

well, you can try without the .pit, if it dosent work do it again with, its simple. if you brick it, then use the 4..2.2 to uynbrick then try the other method, so no matter what its not a biggie.

so try without the pit file, if you brick flash tthe 4.2.2 to unbrick.
what do you mean, you actually had to replace a physical piece because of a brick??? never heard of that happening before

Yeah if u hard brick it, the phone doesnt do anything.. Not even charge or flash a light.. Its just completely dead.. You could get it unbricked if ur living in USA or UK and few other countries using JTag method but in ireland they dont have the tools to do it, not even the samsung repair shop, so i had to buy a new motherboard.. Thats why im very scared to do this..

ICS update in Singapore.

My question may sound foolish but here it is.
I have Galaxy R with me on stock 2.3.4. Never rooted or installed any sort of ROMs.
If I carry this phone to Singapore and try to update OTA, will I be able to update to ICS as I see ICS Stock ROM for Singapore already released.

I am from India. I may go to Singapore next month. Here in india OTA won't show any new update as it has never gone past 2.3.4
But in Singapore, I think the update for ICS has been released. So I had a doubt if I go there, and just search for update OTA, will I be able to see ICS and be able to update to ICS??

Buddy India we also we got ICS just connect your phone to PC and update it using Samsung Kies S/W and in INDIA Galaxy R released with 2.3.5 not 2.3.4..... No OTA Differs from area to area its depends on Phone CSC so you will not get OTA if you go to Singapore ....

yes just check it with kies ....
Also, our phone does not get updates with respect to our geographical location.. If you purchased your phone in India, you will have an indian rom by default and kies will search for an update to that rom.. So even if you take your phone to hong Kong or Taiwan it will not update if ics for India is not available...
Since ics is out for india, you can go ahead and update with kies as suggested by mj.vikram buddy

If we update through Kies, will my phone be affected by the eMMC brick bug? will my phone get bricked by chance? is there any safe way to do it?

buddy, just dont unpluged the phone when It will be updating. Also, eMMC bug is there in ICS. so after that just install CWM & then install Ardatdat's kernel V4 or higher. it is safe.

yes off course eMMC Brick bug will be there but it will not effect you until unless you wipe anything from CWM, if you are not using CWM then it will be safe or else you flash Ardatdat's kernel if you are using CWM.....

I've never rooted my phone. So, if I want to just update it through Kies, and then wipe data and factory reset my phone, will it do any harm to it? (considering that there is no CWM & ardatdat kernel is installed). Please tell me the steps to install the kernel as well..
Sorry for bugging you!

Brick bug won't affect you, but don't do a factory reset! It's like wiping without a secure kernel.
New firmware found.
Firstly I was shocked to see this new firmware on kies. All these days I was checking on Kies(Mac version) and didn't find any update.
(I am on GB 2.3.5. Never did any customizations on my phone, no rooting, no infected ROM. Nothing. It is as same as it was when I took it)
Now, I find this firmware update on KIES (Windows version) and wanna know if I can go ahead and update this firmware?? Is there any side effect of doing this?
Some one says you cannot factory reset after this firmware. Someone says, nothing would happen.
I am confused. Please help.
P.S: I am newbie and have no clue about CWM or eMMC brick or kernal

Reflashing to Stock

So I am currently on the CM10.1 nightlies on my Canadian N8010. I'm now trying to reflash the stock rom back onto it, but I'm not sure which one to flash. samfirmware has stock roms for almost every contry, except for teh Canadian one. Does anyone know which rom i should be flashing, ie is there no Canadian one, and where i should find it?

you could try using a different language. but i dont know if it can damage your tablet.
Sock roms are interchangeable through regions. That's how most people got JB when it wa first released for Germany only....
Just be aware however that flashing a stock rom will change your CSC (region code), you will need to change back with the CSC Changer app available in app store HOWEVER, make sure to backup the contents on your Internal memory first or you will loose it.

So far as I know, flashing stock samsung firmware will NOT trip Knox
If it trips Knox, then it will be up to the repair centre the phone goes to and the carrier, regardless of EU, UK or any other LAW as Knox trip does invalidate warranty. Just because you are lucky enough to get a phone fixed after it's had custom software on does not make it the norm. And if you're refused warranty, good luck challenging it, Europe or not.
As for going back to 5.1.1 I heard it wasn't possible without breaking Knox.

Have you had any luck? I want to as well because my battery is draining like 40% faster now that I upgraded. That and there's a few bugs that I can't get rid of that bother me quite a bit.
I've tried the various guides online using Odin3 and the ROMs from SamMobile but I can't get it to not fail. I've factory restored it multiple times and tried all of the updates to Odin 3.10. I can't get any of it to work and It's making me mad! I've tried two different PCs, made sure the drivers for reading the phones are updated and even multiple USB cords! I just want Lolipop back so I can enjoy my phone and not have it be dead halfway through my day!

Hi,
Flashing ROM from sammobile never worked for me. This is what I did.
Download the latest 5.1.1 bootloader, modem and TWRP 3.0 for your model. Flash them in odin after putting them in respective locations. If successful, the phone boots into recovery, where you can restore a 5.1.1 backup if you have any. If you don't have a backup, see that you have a ROM file ready in the phone to flash.

I think, point is from WHICH 6.0.1 to WHICH 5.1.1- generally some combinations work.
Somebody knows which??
Downgrade not work for me, bootlop, no recovery mode for wipe after flash, only download mode. Knox not trip.

When a newb fails, bricked s6(SOLVED)

So, i was trying to flash a ROM after i got my recovery and root going on, i wiped EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE recovery file i made and the installation file i got in the phone when i went to wipe the system files and attempt to install the ROM. So, i tried to put the ROM files into my phone via the ADB method. It worked but my ROM didn't and now my S6 is in a boot loop. i have tired Odin, smartwatch and kies. On kies and smart watch, they both said the attempt to install stock ROM failed and attempt a emergency recovery. HOWEVER, both software did not recognize my device in the emergency recovery devices list, nor did it recognize it as a compatible device in the 1st place, i tired to reinstall the drivers and the software themselves but nothing worked. For Odin, it keeps on saying fail to flash as well, it usually stuck on the 'nano write' process or 'setting up connection' process for a long time too! I did download the official Samsung firmware and extracted it, put it into the blank next to the 'AP' button in odin and i got 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' checked off. On the phone, i can boot in to download mode and download mode only, now it shows me a triangle and it says that stock firmware flash failed and use emergency recovery. i actually download a custom recovery and for some reason it wont boot into that.
Model number: SM-G920W8
carrier: fido
If any of you pros got any ideas please share with me, i've been trying to fix this problem for about a day and a night.

On kies and smart swich, they both said the attempt to install stock ROM failed and attempt a emergency recovery. HOWEVER, both software did not recognize my device in the emergency recovery devices list, nor did it recognize it as a compatible device in the 1st place, i tired to reinstall the drivers and the software themselves but nothing worked. I even contacted Samsung and they said that it won't work because my device is rooted. i've seen videos of it working but not for me, did i do anything wrong or did i miss anything?

about roms, i still got 5.1.1 so if i want to install a rom, does it matter? or is it just about finding the 1 for your model. i want to install XtreStoLite but some versions have android 6.0 in the title and some have 5.1.1, and why don't posts about roms have any comments?
