Hi,
I've been using the latest carbon nightly and the latest full google gapps. Since these gapps replace some stock carbon apps (like camera and messaging), would these be added back with every nightly, thus requiring me to flash the gapps again? Or does it somehow know I flashed gapps that removed them before and doesn't re-add them?

If they're in the rom zip, they'll get flashed. Some ROMs backup and restore gapps (example slimkat) so of you had gapps before flashing the rom, they would be added afterwards. Whether your rom does this or not I Don't know. Look in the updater-script to see if any scripts are called, then look in the scripts.
Otherwise, you'll just have to flash gapps after each rom flash

I just flash gapps right after each nightly, whatever the ROM is, so I don't have to really worry about that.

Howdy. I am about to install CM7. I looked in the downloads and am wondering which nightly I should download? Is the newest one stable or is there another that is stable. The file sizes are all around 92.7mb. Is this the entire MOD or is there a base that I need to install? I know these are noob questions....but I'm a noob to the droid scene. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Install latest nightly using CWM. Make sure you flashed CWM using NVflash.
That nightly is the actual ROM and only thing you need to flash separately is the goggle apps, which are called gapps

Thank you. I already rooted and flashed CWM on my phone itself. How would I go about the google apps. In other words, where do I download them and do I install them in the same way from my SD card? Tanks again and sorry for all of the questions.
Google Apps aka GAPPS is also found in the same post as the CM7 nightly.
Factory Reset>Flash CM7>Flash GAPPS>Reboot>Enjoy
Google asked Cyanogen not to include the Google Apps in this roms, so you have to manually install them after you flash his roms.
Once you get up in a good working CM7 rom, download Rom Manager and use it to download roms/Gapps in the future.
Reboot into recovery
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Format /system (found in mounts and storage)*
Wipe Dalvik Cache (found in Advanced)
Wipe Battery Stats*
Install latest nightly
Install Google Apps
Install whatever kernel you want, or just skip to use stock
Reboot
Entries marked with a * are not necessary but reduce the chance of something going wrong.
I'm on the latest nightly (78) and it's awesome.
Only jumped to CM a few days ago (from EB FR 1.05) and it's waaaaay better.
Three questions:
I was on stock root66 for a while and I had done various tweaks such as system ui, pushing inverted gapps to the system/apps file and other minor tweaks. I am now on my first rom (Paranoid Android 2.13) with Justin bean inverted Gapps. Here come the questions.
1: My baseband is vralg7 on paranoid android Is this because I had flashed this radio on root66 before the aosp rom or is this the radio that is used in paranoid android?
2: Can I just flash a new Gapps if I want to? Is there any special procedure in order to remove the old gapps? Wipe cache and dalvik? ect?
3: If a new version of paranoid android is released, what is the process in order to flash the newer version? Also, if I were to switch to Jellywiz or another rom, what would be my procedure to get from Paranoid Android to jellywiz?
I have searched and I have not exactly found the clear cut answers that I am looking for. Thank you in advance for your time.

The radio aka modem aka baseband was installed when you either accepted the latest OTA or installed it by itself. If you flash roms, this will not change. Modems are installed independent of roms UNLESS it's a Verizon OTA update. PA is likely still based on VRLG1 (like all other roms are at this moment) because either they haven't updated or the source for the latest Verizon OTA was not officially released yet. I'm not an expert on how new vs. old radios work with LTE phones since they often introduce newer versions of a file like RIL within the update itself.

Not sure about flashing whichever Gapps whenever you want to. When you install an AOSP rom it tells you which one to download. If AOSP JB IDKIDC rom requires JB IDKIDC Gapps then you must install that specific file. You can reflash the specific Gapps that is required for the rom at a later date if you notice certain Google apps are acting unusual. Does this answer your question? I usually don't mix and match Gapps across different roms if they don't utilize the same exact Gapps file which happens on newer versions of Android sometimes. Normally, they use the same Gapps but sometimes they don't.

To update from an older build of PA (Paranoid Android) to a newer build of PA: just wipe cache and dalvik cache then flash the newer version OR don't wipe anything and flash the newer version (this is known as a dirty flash or flashover). If you notice issues, do a full wipe and flash the rom. Sometimes the developer changes a lot between releases and if you actively follow that thread, you will see if they announce that you need to fully wipe for the newest update or not. If they release a newer build and don't mention it whether to full wipe or not, either ask politely or likely someone else will.
Going from PA to another rom (one rom to another): full wipe, no excuses. A full wipe is at least Format data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache.

goomanager is asking me to update my gapps to JB 4.1.2 for my AOKP ms 1. Currently using gapps for JB 4.1.1. Yet interestingly, the AOKP is JB 4.1.2 but their gapps link gave me gapps for JB 4.1.1
Question 1
What exactly do I need to wipe (if any) before flashing an updated gapps into an existing rom that it should be compatible with?
Wipe cache and dalvik cache then flash GAPPS. Usually though you flash the rom then gapps immediately after. Never really done just gapps alone

So I dirty flash upgraded LiquidSmooth to the latest. I noticed everything went well, I wiped cache/dalvik and booted up. My google contacts were gone along with my whole account. I re-flashed and installed gapps afterwards. Did I do something wrong? Or is this the process usually?

Are your. Apps like play store still there? If they are then just re add google account or just reflashed gapps, better safe then sorry
I've never used that ROM, but the general answer to your question is no. Only flash gapps when starting from nothing.

It was weird. I booted up without a google account. No google apps or anything. So I just reflashed Gapps. I didn't have the option to add an account for Google.
That happened to me once or twice. No issues from flashing gapps though.

did you check under settings? accounts
Yup. No google option was there. So I went into recovery reflashed the rom and then flashed gapps

I've dirty flashed 3 different ROMs multiple times (usually wipe data), and each time gapps were still there. The only issue I've run into was an older market bug so I re-flashed the latest gapps.
All wrong answers, always re flash your gapps when flashing an aosp rom regardless if it's a new install or a dirty update. When dirty flashing your gapps should not be there anymore, if they are they are ghost remnants of the old build. Your data for your gapps will remain on a dirty flash so you need not worry about setting things up again.

This. Always reflash gapps after dirty flashing a rom.
I personally clean flash 99% of the time, it prevents so many problems.
check updater-script
maybe the ROM had a line of script to delete factory data...
Some ROMs have that line in their "updater-script" file...I remember flashing an ICS rom that did that..:/
If yes...then you will have to flash gapps again..Check the file(if possible) before dirty flashing the next time..:good:
But as a thumb-rule...always flash gapps after flashing AOSP/AOKP etc. ROMs..

I flashed one of the CM 10.1 that I found on CM website, and then I flashed GAPPS, but the version I downloaded has some bugs, so I want to choose a different CM version, but I don't know how to. I mean, what will happen with GAPPS? Do I need to follow same procedure as for installing CM for the first time i.e flashing CM, and then flashing GAPPS again?
Also, I have non-touch CWM recovery and I downloaded the touch version from CWM website, but I'm not sure how to do it, is it done with regular Odin via PC , or with something called "Mobile Odin"?

Dirty flashing means you just wipe your cache and dalvik cache and flash cm on top of the old cm which allows you to keep your data. Research both and decide what you prefer.

Thanks, I have last question regarding flashing new rom:
I flashed CM, but then I separately flashed GAPPS, so I dont know if GAPPS will be removed when installing new rom, or do I need to manually remove GAPPS before flashing new rom?
I hope you understand what I'm trying to ask :silly:
If you're dirty flashing, you don't need to reflash Google apps. However, if you're clean flashing then you are wiping everything so you'll need to reflash Google apps.
You don't need to remove it or anything before flashing the new rom. If you feel more comfortable flashing it, you can because it'll just overwrite your old Google apps.
