Hey guys, do you think there will be a script debloater for the new 4.4.3 stock image?
I realize that vanilla android is supposed to be as clean as possible, but I wonder if some unneecssary crap can be removed from the stock image.
For example, I want to remove or freeze the Google+ app, but I don't know if by doing so, I will break other apps or setting dependent on it.
Thanks for any info.

Make a nandroid and start deleting.
if you want to keep getting OTAs, don't delete, freeze the system apps you don't want to use.
I always freeze things like Google earth, email, G+, keyboards, news and all that things without any problem.

I know the features and uses of DLNA.
My question is ‘Is it required to be in the phone?’
I’ve rooted my phone and now deleting unwanted apps from system\app. Before deleting DLNA stuff, thought of confirming with you guys.
Please help. Thank you.
Really do not think you need it..... There are a few recovery roms that do not include it..... But you should back it up real pain to reinstall.....
I deleted!

I deleted and it didn't affect anything. Thank you Hankibizzo5 :good:
You are much better freezing things than removing them. ANY and ALL updates require ALL bloat to be on the phone in order to install the update, and yes there is a script that does check to see if the bloatware is still there, during any updates.
Now, since you removed the DLNA app, you will need to return to stock before applying the OTA.

That being said I should have mentioned to use something like root uninstaller:silly:..... That way you would have a backup if you decide you need it..... Cost a few bucks but well worth it.....
So, do you use DLNA at all?
Nope. I've never used it...
And there are a lot of other things in your system for dlna than just the apk... check the jars, libs, permissions..
If you just remove the apk, your phone is still looking for it and trying to run it (do a logcat after removing/freezing/renaming the .apk to .apk.bak..) - may be eating more batt that way..

I've uninstalled it with no problems. Its one of the 100 extra apps that you don't need if you don't plan on using it.

Hello all:
This is my first foray into rooting/roming and I am liking it so far.
But now I have a few questions
here are my specs:
Verizon Galaxy S III
Hyperdrive RLS15
TWRP
Titanium backup
busyBox - not sure what this does
So, here are my questions
1)
This whole rom /modding thing is fun as s#!+.
I want to try other ROMs. Is there a way to install a different ROM without having to re-install all of my third party apps all over again?
2)
I like the Hyperdrive ROM but I would like to add and remove some of the features I installed when I loaded the ROM initially.
Is there a way to change my configuration without having to start from the beginning and having to re-install 3rd party apps?
3)
Apparently this ROM has a battery calibrator built in that I can run in terminal.
Can anyone tell me what it actually does
4)
What is BusyBox and why do I need it?
Thanks in advance for all your help and all the work this community does

1. Basically no, the fastest and easiest way to get your apps back is using titanium backup. It's even recommended to not even restore with tb if you switch from touchwiz and AOSP or vise versa.
2. Hyperdrive uses aroma and this is true for any rom running aroma, but to change your features you simply have to reflash the rom. Then while you're in aroma, simply deselect all the features you don't want anymore, but if you forget to mark something you already had it'll go away.
3. Can't help you with this one, try searching the development thread.
4. Busybox is basically a terminal (if you can call it that?) that runs with Linux. It basically gives your phone the ability to run a vast majority of basic commands that would otherwise have to be manually entered into a terminal. It's a stripped down version of a full Linux kit, so it's designed for more stripped down environments such as mobile and tablet devices.

So, do you mean to say that I can back-up and restore only my apps when I either change roms or re-install the current rom?
But if I switch from a TW rom to an AOSP rom then restoring those apps via TB is NOT reccommended?
-- I mean I can back-up and restore all kinds of things, but I can b/u the apps by themselves?
And thanks so much for your reply
You can use alternatives to titanium backup for backing up your apps.

I think titanium is great for backing up apps, and yes, if I'm switching between touchwiz roms or the same rom I'll use titanium to restore user apps with data. But if I went to an AOSP rom I'd only restore the app itself mainly because of the different android versions, most apps such as games should run normally, but restoring data will sometimes cause issues with a rom. You'd have to do a lot of battery stats hunting to get rid of some of them. If you didn't restore data, your system would be pretty clean, and new data would be written for the apps you use as you use them instead of restoring them from a different version.
I would never in any case restore system data, unless I'm reinstalling a clean flash of the same exact rom and build I was on.

So, in my case, I would like to re-install the hyperdrive rom to add some other features and remove some features. Should I do a system data restore or would that not be a good idea?
What does a system data restore do for me? pros and cons?

If you dirty flash without a factory reset your data will stay intact even after a reflash.
Stuff that's included in system data are contacts, text messages, call logs, etc. I usually never restore that stuff, and just let Google restore my contacts from the cloud.
It generally isn't a good idea, but it shouldn't be a problem going into the same rom. It's up to you whether to do it or not.

you can restore apps coming from AOSP to TW or vice versa. Ive never had a problem anyway when i used to flip flop back and forth.
I always select user apps and not system apps though.
You can use sms backup and call log backup to restore messages and call logs. theyre great apps.
thanks
thanks everyone for all the advice and tips.

Hi -this is actually in response to a comment on another thread, but I wanted to be sure to reach you and figured if I commented on a thread you initiated you'd get a notification. I just got the S5 mini and it's driving me nuts - I primarily use it to listen to music and it skips/stops the song if I so much as breathe. I cant use it for jogging or even listening while walking, which means it's useless to me. Did you ever find a solution to the sensitivity factor - screen protector, case, etc.........? I may just return it. Even if I twist my hand the tiniest amount it happens, and it doesn't just skip - it turns the song or even the page off completely. I literally haven't been able to listen to one single song all the way through since I got it - even when it is laying down flat. Help!
hey:
weird way to contact me, but it worked.
i never did figure it out. i didn't try a screen protector either, i just hate them.
i just end up being annoyed at the thing.
I hang-up on people with my cheek, i inadvertently open or close apps. i am constantly opening the recent app menu (though i finally found a way to re=map that damn key)... so basically i'm stil unhappy, but i have a year till my contract expires so i'm living with it.
as an aside I somehow changed a setting, disabled my wi-fi, then lost root and can't seem to re-root or enable the wi-fi

hey guys .. got my nexus 5 today and installed a sweet rom .. installed TB and deleted all the crap that comes with the GAPPS packages IE Google music ETC and when i did this the phone became un-reponsive and wouldnt load the home screen .. then when i ree-booted it got stuck on the bootloop ..
have google taken these powers away from us now so we have to keep google music ETC
if there is a way around this i would be much appreciated
Thanks
Steve
Hi,
It seems you have deleted an (some) essential system app(s) ?
Could you provide a list of what you have deleted? Maybe you have deleted something not related to the Gapps (since the phone boot or work "normally" without Gapps)?
No Nandroid backup or Titanium backup I presume?
Some system apps are safe to delete, others not... Dirty flash your rom should do the trick (wipe only Dalvik cache and cache partition), you won't lose anything and the apps you deleted will be installed again...

Did you delete Google Now, or Play Services? That will cripple the device with stock launcher.
Why would you delete then apps rather than just freezing them?
If you just freeze them, you wouldn't have to do it every time you update your rom, unlike deleting.

Are you sure it's only that? I've deleted them without issue, there is something else..., did you read my post?
You freeze them in settings/apps/all or with Titanium backup (or similar apps)... And always make a Nandroid backup or a backup with Titanium (recovery backup, I mean create "update.zip" ).
EDIT: problem solved it seems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588152&page=23...
Hi guys, I'd like to debloat the latest 5.1 Lollipop Rom for my XT1032 but I don't know how, I tried to run it normally but it takes too much RAM and my phone has become too slow...
I'm running an older version now but it's no longer supported and I'm afraid of all the new threats, I don't want to switch to Marshmallow because I'm looking for something to "install and never touch it again" and that version is still too frequently updated.
Thanks for your time.
Hey I always use titanium backup to remove stock apps to clear space. Also check out minimal os it's a nice lite lollipop rom

This is not exactly stock but Omni - I always use it as a guide on what to debloat my omnirom. You could still use this as a guide. Use System App Remover to remove the unwanted apps.
Credit the app-to-be-removed photo to @ice_ice in his thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sam...mplete-optimization-guide-omni-rom-4-t3027575 )
the thread by lost101 on debloated stock ROMs did have a list of apps that could be safely removed without impacting any functionality, though i cant seem to find the list in that thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-lollipop-rom-t3017510
the services that you can get rid of are found in the following post in the same thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63024406&postcount=2501
So i was thinking, on my galaxy s7. Someone made a script you can run using twrp, where it deletes all unnecessary apps and other random stuff !
Would this be possible on the Mate 9 and pro ?
WIthout root!
Sure, it is possible, but...
There is common way to install official updates - OTA. And every time you have to return all deleted stuff back when you will install update (cause OTA checks apps and raises error if something was deleted)
Second factor - you have to unlock bootloader to install TWRP
At third, why are you asking script, if phone has function to disable most part of applications?

You can get root then use a root uninstaller to remove all the system junk you don't want on your phone... I deleted a ton of bloat like this - Facebook, Gmail, bunch of Huawei crap, chrome, etc. I use my phone for work so need the battery boost, so doing that allows me to keep using the phone all day, and sometimes even until midday the day after!

I do not mind unlocking bootloader to install TWRP!
I just hate to have root on..
Because, the apps still take up some space and the disable function does not really work. I have always have had problems with it.

Oh, i am still waiting on my store to get the phone home. They only had 4 in store, but they got sold out, new on the way.
So i'll have the phone next week first. Can't remember every app in the head, but i'll share a list here when i get the phone
Thank you for the offer
Most bloat apps are actually in /data/, if not all.
OTA checks /system, /vendor and /product. If any of those are edited you can't install OTA.
