Slim Rom for custom devices - General SlimRoms Discussion

I am looking into buying unbranded tablets and phones to sell from my IT Company here in South Africa. If I decide on what products I want to import what will a ROM developer charge me to make 2 slim roms a year per device? Obviously with my company branding on the device itself and the rom developer must put my backgrounds etc.... on the rom. Any takers?

[Q] All phones with free SIM unlock options?

I've currently got a ZTE Blade running GSF. I'm looking at options for a new phone for my wife in January. I live in Ireland, travel to the UK regularly so the phone should be available in one of those markets. My first priority when choosing is that it can be SIM unlocked, my second that there's a 2.3 ROM available (if not already installed) and ideally that it's within the CyanogenMod community of interest (no necessarily officially supported). I'd like something with a better CPU than the Blade. I'm not willing to use a TurboSIM.
The Blade is an easy unlock. A lot of Samsung models can be unlocked using the BML5 method. What else is out there that's an easy/free home unlock?
Finally, how do phones with MT6573 CPU's compare with the ARMv6 chips in the branded offerings?
surely there are some others?

[Q] LG Thrive (P506) Rom Upgrade?

What's to stop me from trying to update with a Canadian or Israeli ROM for my LG Thrive? Is there that much of a difference between the phones abroad? I was at an Orange Store in Israel trying to get a SIM Card for my phone, which ultimately, they wouldn't sell me due to their insistence that I have an Israeli Identity Card and Bank Account or pay a refundable ₪ 2239 (about $ 600) when I can bring in both. While in the store, I saw the Optimus One, which more or less is just an internationalized version of the Thrive(?) like the Phoenix, which is just a monthly contract version of the PAYG Thrive. Anyway, has anyone tried using a different rom? LG, as I'm sure others know, have been a bit too slow in giving us updates for the phone, which is why I am willing to just go my own route. Lastly, I have heard that I can't upgrade to 4.0 because of the Thrive's Lackluster internals, and if true, what's the latest version of Android I can update to?

[Q] Advice - American or Chinese?

I was thinking about buying the oneplus and give my i9505 to my wife.
The official website doesn't ship to my country so I have 2 options:
1. Buy it from the official website and use another shipment company to my country. Including taxes the 64GB will cost around 500 dollar (which is still around 130 dollar cheaper than other flagship devices I can get..) .
2. A friend of mine is flying to china soon and he'll be in hong kong for a few hours. He can bring the Chinese version....
The Chinese version supports all frequencies in my country.
What would you recommended?
Btw, is there a difference between the Chinese and the American version regarding touchscreen issues or other...?
Touchscreen issues have been resolved in the XNPH38R OTA. Pick whatever is the cheapest.
If its the Chinese version, you'll need to flash CM11S (or any other custom ROM) as it'll ship with ColorOS out of the box.
Whichever is the chepeast. The Chinese model is pretty much the same in terms of hardware although the back cover does not have the same logo. You should be able to flash the OPO ROMs on the Chinese version.

Where to buy SM-970F (Exynos) in US?

I really like the form factor of the S10e and am interested in using LineageOS, meaning I need the Exynos variant. However, I've not been able to find it for sale through any reputable sources - it looks like B&H used to carry the Dual SIM model but it's no longer available, and it's not on Amazon. Before I go the Swappa/eBay route, wanted to see if anyone knew of retailers in the U.S. that carry the SM-970F (don't need the Dual SIM).
Thanks in advance.
Hi anonim1,
I am living in the US at the moment. The Exynos version is unfortunately not available in the US as far as I know, and to the best of my knowledge it has always been like that, with only the Snapdragon version available in the US market. I think that the only alternative is the use of websites like amazon or similar if you want to buy it in the US. Also, I think there would be no warranty coverage for an Exynos smartphone in the US...

Question Buy now or wait?

I live in Europe and have been eyeing this phone since release - but I'm not in a hurry and I've got a few questions:
Is it ok to use China released phone in an EU country?
Is the price likely to drop?
How soon can we expect the availability to root the phone?
Is it best to first wait a few months for at least a confirmation of an international release?
Thanks.
as far as I know, you have to wait one week before you can unlock xiaomi devices.
then its root time, but I dont have the phone yet so can't say for sure.
make sure this phone supports lte and 5g bands your carrier uses.
price is most likely to follow exchange rate since it is in chinese msrp and reseller's pricing.
but I don't think it will chage significantly anytime soon.
I ordered one already and waiting on the package to arrive, but if you are planning to use this device as a daily driver just keep in mind thing can get very experimental.
I've seen reviews saying camera has no big difference over the 11 ultra, but in other reviews, the photos are outstanding. maybe has to do with their skills or the camera is inconsistent at the moment.
will probably get better with software updates though.
its chinese based rom, so maybe it could be wiser to wait until xiaomi EU releases custom version with all chinese stuff gone.

I have Chinese ROM 12/512 and its working fine in UK (inluding 5G).
Awesome camera and superfast CPU with great battery life.
As for international release, I read there are no plans and this device is China only. (Also any international version will be more expensive!)
However xiaiomi.eu teak are working on an unofficial EU ROM now so users needing a "global" ROM can use that when available
Also, Android Auto won't work
Depending on your country the 4G bands can be an issue (5G is far from being the standard in the EU)
Google Pay won't always work
Chinese Rom has that terrible pull down menu like the Iphone where it's split in a notifications section and a settings section.
And there are other smaller issues.
NOT a device right now for people who don't like to experiment. Especially not at the 1200+ euro price
