Stuck in recovery loop - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I was helping my friend switch to a custom rom and I messed up. His One XL was on 4.1.1 with 3.18 software. I managed to temporarily change the CID by followin guides and unlock the bootloader using htcdev.com. The problem began after I tried to flash boot.img, from an One X rom because I thought this is a One X(ATT's naming). Now the device is stuck in a recovery boot loop. Once in a while I can get out of it and get to the bootloader. From there I'd erase cache, flash new recovery (TWRP for One XL), flash correct boot.img, go into recovery and flash rom. However, upon finishing install the reboot will start the recovery boot loop again. The phone keeps trying to boot recovery instead of normal boot on restart and gets stuck. I've tried both CWM and TWRP, wiped many times, but it refuses to boot normally. Every time after the logos for the rom plays the phone reboots. Unlocked bootloader but no root or S-off. What can I do?
Thanks

What ROM are you tying to flash? And are you sure you're flashing the boot.img from that ROM zip?
Out of interest, is there a reason your friend isn't doing this himself? Handing an unlocked phone to someone who hasn't undergone the learning experience of actually unlocking the device and researching the ins and outs of a modified phone is a pretty terrible idea.

Wouldn't it be advisable if he formatted and ran a ruu? Sounds like he messded up his bootloader with a incompatible ROM.

He can't run an RUU. The fact that he flashed a boot.img would suggest that he's s-on, he mentioned changing the CID which suggests that he has SuperCID. S-on + SuperCID + jb RUU = brick.

Uh oh. Nothing can be done....?

My HTC One S still says S-On in the bootloader!

I bought it yesterday and when I tried to go with the rooting process, when I rebooted into the bootloader, it said ***UNLOCKED*** and above that it said ***TAMPERED***. I figured that it was already unlocked so I resumed with the process. I installed the CWM recovery and the SuperSU.
However, it still say "Ship S-On" in the bootloader. Am I free to flash ROMs or am I supposed to get it to S-Off somehow?
S-Off rooting has not been achieved yet. Unlocking bootloader and rooting with the current methods will allow for custom ROM installation.
hTc One S
One s doesnt have S-off yet,but you can flash rom s anyway .you will just have to fastboot the boot or use twrp recovery ,
I would stick to fastboot tho as twrp doesn't always flash the boot for me.
Enjoy

So I flash the ROM first. Then If i want to install a kernel, I install through fastboot? In that order?
For example: I flash This ROM first and then I reboot into fastboot in the bootloader to flash This Kernel?
Ya you can flash kernel first or last doesn't matter , just fastboot boot.IMG reboot to recovery and flash Rom

[Q] Evita Can't Boot ROMs

I have been working on my girlfriend's AT&T Evita for about 10 hours now and keep hitting a wall when I try to flash AOKP Milestone 1 or Cyanogenmod 10.
Here's my process:
Unlock Bootloader
Flash TWRP 2.5.0.0
TWRP Factory Reset
Flash AOKP
Flash GAPPs
Clear Cache
Power Off
Fastboot
Flash boot.img from the AOKP ZIP
Reboot
When I run through this process I get the X logo, but the animation just runs and runs, never goes anywhere. Basically the same result when I go through the same process with CM10, but with CM logo stuck just spinning. Only option when that happens is to relock the bootloader and RUU the phone.
S-ON
HBOOT 1.14.0002
RADIO 0.19as32.09.11_2
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
RUU version 2.20.502.7 (not sure, will have to check when I get back home in an hour or so.)
Stock Android 4.0.4
Is there any additional information needed? Anyone have any ideas?
Download 2.3.3.1 Check md5
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
select recovery
wipe cache, dalvik, system, factory reset
flash your rom
reboot to bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img (whereby boot.img is extracted from the rom you're flashing)
reboot
twrp 2.4+ has issues wiping.
If that doesn't work, some phones have issues booting newer cm roms unless they are on 2.14 hboot. To fix that you would have to s-off and then ruu up to 3.18 then flash recovery.

What method did you use to s-off? I tried FacePalm but never got it to go through.

I believe facepalm is the only known method for this device. Read through the thread, lots of info about how to get the exploit to work
Ok, followed your instructions exactly, still getting the "This Build is for development only" message, but I'm IN!
Thanks for the help exad.
Edit: FacePalm S-OFF successful on first attempt when run from AOKP.

Why not just Unlock bootloader again and flash recovery anew, flash ROM.
Boot to bootloader and select clear storage. Then boot to bootloader and do a factory reset. Hopefully that will do it. Then you can unlock bootloader again and flash a custom recovery.

how do I unlock boot loader from bootloader. I tried fastboot oem unlock, and nothing. I cant use adb because i cant boot into android
Did the RUU install correctly? So you are now on a stock ROM? If so, did you try the first two steps i wrote?
Sent from my One S using Tapatalk 4
tried that too. still just bootloops. it will boot up show the internal storage than just bootloops.
I would try to enter fastboot and run the RUU again to be sure it flashed correctly. Then try clear storage one more time to fix your SD-card. If that doesn't work i think there is a manual way to format the sd-card. Maybe someone can provide a link?
BTW, going to sleep now.

Usual errors while installing a recovery are because the boot loader is locked (relocked).
You sure you unlocked the boot loader after you ran the RUU?
Def. Was unlocked. I am running completely stock rooted right now, only because I need the phone reliably for a few days. Cell service took forever to connect after the restore to stock and speeds are really bad on data now. Have to figure that one out. After 12 hours getting this thing to finally resemble its former self, I have files all over my laptop and am going to completely flush everything pertaining to this phone and start from scratch to get back to s off and moonshine hboot. This phone is a pita, though.

good news its showing something start it up in boot loader go to recovery and repeat the flashing process!
now that you are bootloader unlocked and SOFF i don't think its possible to restore it through RESET option in bootloader.
well did u happen to wipe everything?
that had once happened with me try Mounting USB from recovery put any ROM in it and you should flash it!
and btw what method did u follow for SOFF?

Did you flash the boot.img via fastboot when you flashed the ROM? You're s-on so you need to do that.

Help with bootloop after flashing recovery on A9

I'm not new to HTC and it's procedures but I have a problem this time I bought a used A9, it's s-off, bootloader says unlocked but download mode says locked, I flashed twrp recovery through fastboot and I boot into recovery without problems, but when I reboot the phone it goes into unending bootloop, so I flashed RUU again and it was fine, I did the fastboot method all over again because I need to root my phone to get the most out of it, but yet I got stock bootloop again, is there something I'm missing here? Please people come to my rescue...
Bro am sorry am supposed to answer your question but I am a novice, just got the HTC One A9 sprint few days ago..please I want to know how to flash RUU.
