S5 gets very much heated while charging - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Sprint S5 gets a lot heated when switched on and charging, and its not only with the battery, its with the screen too, it gets equally heated up... any1 else? any solution

Mine does this when QI charging but thats expected, have you checked your battery stats to see whats running during this time.
My company had a problem with the exchange server recently and the exchange process was constantly trying to sync and caused it to eat up 30% of the battery in 5 hours. An also caused it to be hot to the touch when charging.

Yeah it gets very hot
Atm I think it's because it charges faster with the usb 3.0 port

I have even tried with usb2.O too..still the same..burns like hell..
And thers nthn runnin in the bg..it occurs when I use the fone nrmlly for msgng or doin sumodr nrml task

Mine gets a bit warm when charging as well. According to Samsung support, it's normal.

A bit warm, normal... hot as hell, not so much

USB 3.0 doesn't make thinks charge faster it's only for transferring data it's the actual charger block that has a higher amperage and wattage to charge fast

Battery to blame for some reboots?

just had a thought, my g2x just started rebooting like crazy i.e it would get to the tmobile g2x android start up animation and after it finishes it would reboot. my battery was around 30%-35% at the time i was thinking maybe the battery cant maintain a decent voltage and it falls below the g2x voltage threshold while under load and boom instant reboot. this could also explain why some batteries heat up to hot as well, they dont have a high enough discharge rate to keep up with the demands of the phone.
this can be solved one of two ways get a larger capacity battery of the same discharge rate. or get a higher discharge rate battery of the same size. both of those will allow the phone to draw more power without overtaxing the battery and would keep the battery cooler as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if the battery drivers are the culprit for all our issues. The phone can't properly read the battery charge and so the battery overheats or the phone reboots itself in hopes of getting a better reading on the battery.
i noticed my phone starts to heat up when the battery level hits around 40%. i never really understood why.
Mine once rebooted when it was plugged in and 100% charged. I think when it's plugged in it draws power from charger not the battery. So your theory, if true, only explains some reboots, not all.

I may be mistaken, but if it was in fact 100% then it was probably drawing from the battery at that point. I believe that once they reach 100% they will cycle between battery usage and charging.
well i know from using lipo batterys in my r/c planes and cars that if you draw them below 3v it can damage the battey im not sure what Li-ion low voltage is but its near the same basicly once the battery hit around 3.6 volts at rest its empty and will not hold voltage at all.
and for the 100% full charge if the battery drivers is fubar it could be overcharging your battery and damaging it so it has less capacity so when it pulls a draw it cant keep up and reboots
I plug my phone in every day before going to bed, and unplug it in the morning. If G2x doesn't have overcharging protection my battery would have been damaged long ago.
Also, I used the phone several times when it was charged 100% and still plugged in, never saw battery percentage went to 99% then back to 100%. So I believe when 100% and plugged in, it won't cycle power source through battery and charger.

I will add a little information that may or may not have relevance. I have 4 batteries for my G2X (This is my solution to the short battery life). The LG battery, $25 AceSoft battery, and two $6 generic Chinese batteries. None of them including the dirt cheap ones cause my phone to reboot. Conclusions can be drawn from this information but I'm going to leave that up to someone else. If you want to test the battery hypothesis I suggest you buy some of those cheap batteries off of eBay and see if something changes. Would be a rather inexpensive experiment.
I agree, ever since I started using a 1900mah battery from ebay, the random reboots and freezing issues have disappeared completely, and I have been using the phone for almost a month now. Please try a different battery to get rid of random reboots and overheating issue. Hope it will help someone.

you know what, I bought 3 ebay batteries so I can swap them around if i don't have a charger. none of them did the black lock screen. weird.
I had random reboot issues using some of the custom roms + original battery.
Then I bought a charger + batteries off ebay, and reset to original rom, and havn't had a single reboot/freeze since.
i just had my second reboot in cyanogen with my battery at 32% after if rebooted it went back up to 45%. i was playing galaxy on fire 2 when it rebooted. and according to battery monitor it was pulling 931mA when it rebooted.
i think the battery discharge rate is substandard for this phone this is a high performance phone and you cant just stick a normal cell phone battery in and expect it to work. this is in part why some of the reboots are happening and why when people got new battery they problem went away for them.
You might be on to something. Everytime my phone restarts it is because it is overheating.

i wish we had more info on the batterys lg used like the discharge rate and everything. i bet they are .5c or 1c discharge that would be why they overcheat when under heavy use or charging
I got a replacement battery from T-Mobile this past Tuesday, and had two random reboots within an hour. However, since then, I haven't had one issue. 4 days and counting going strong... Knocking on wood. Phone is stock and rooted.
well i know cm fixed the battery should be in his next build also data speeds with gingerbread, should be build 54 not 53, something is wrong with 53 and root access so they are going to have it fixed im pretty sure in 54, here peep this via twitter.........

My dark magical powers have beaten the G2x's radio into submission. Starting tonight, p999 gets a battery meter and twice the data speed
3 hours ago via web
while that is awsome news i dont think the battery meter for the phone is really the problem it happens when the draw on the battery pulls it below 3v under load the batterys low voltage cutoff kicks in and shuts the phone off and then the spings back up and the phone restarts
I think it could be the chargers causing issues. My gf pulled my g2x charger out of the box and said it made her phone whacky and died after a few hours.
Her comment made me think about it.
I never had battery issues but I use my old nexus one and zune charger.
Food for thought

[Q] Is your sensation charging?

I received my sensation last week and I noticed that while plugged in charging and playing with games or surfing, battery continues to get drained.
Using Battery Indicator Pro and percentage does not move when I am using my sensation.
Troubleshooting steps taken:
Used a different charger: same problem
Used different cable: same problem
Factory reset: pending
Is any one else getting this problem?
Do I have a defective unit?
My phone was dead in the morning, so i put in the charger and booted up. I then streamed some video's from my server over wifi, high quality. And mine continued to charge, although slow.
Hmm, it's been charging since 10:00, and now its 15:30 but it haven't come further than 87%, man this takes time!
That's normal, the dual CPU and screen maybe eating away electricity at the same rate as your wall adapter.
I think using the phone while charging is not healthy for your battery.

Yeah, I noticed when playing games n such while charging, it doesn't really charge that much prolly cuz of what u stated, so I try to not use my fone when its charging as I noticed this way it charges way faster

I haven't used it, its been laying on the nightdesk the last 6 hours.
Also, now its dropped to 80% had a 30 minutes jogging with bluetooth music and cardio trainer.
Thanks for the reply guys. I think I found the culprit. Some app was keeping my phone from going to sleep. I Update market apps routinely and problem seems to be gone.

Battery charging slow after one point

Hey guys,
You can see the problem in the Screenshot. At one point the phone stops charging fast and goes on charging very slow. It looks like the phone thinks the battery is full and minimizes the charging power. It is a 1500mah battery, bought a few days ago. I also calibrated the battery at 100% in the 4ext recovery. CM 10.2 from 08.08.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Provably not a problem at all. My guess would be that the battery or charging circuits were getting too hot so it dropped the charging current - fairly normal behavior.
The phone is staying completely cool. I think the calibration is wrong. It is supposed to charge slower at 90% Not something like 50

I suspect a cheap battery... What brand is it?
Its a german brand MTec, oder via ebay.
I've noticed my battery does the exact same thing. Charges quickly to around 50% and then very slow for the remaining 50%. I'm using the original HTC battery that came with my Desire S so I just presumed that it was either the due to the battery aging or perhaps due to the CM 10.1 I'm running. Can't say I noticed this charging behaviour before I used CM 10.1 but I didn't immediately notice it after flashing either.
My phone takes around 8 hours to do a full charge. I've noticed that I can get it to charge to 100% more quickly if I let it charge to near 50%, unplug it and leave it for 5/10 mins, then plug it in again. It's starts off with a fast charge again. It slows after a while but overall it's a quicker way to get to 100%. It's probably not the best thing for your battery to do that regularly so I don't do it unless I need it to charge quickly.

Phone heats up while charging

My nexus 5 seems to get really hot while charging, I usually let it cool down a bit before using it again. Any idea what could be causing it

Thats normal dude...if you use your phone while its charging you are using the energy from the charget to use your phone and to charge your phone...Faux kernel has the ability to lower you cpu speed to avoid heat but its pretty normal for the phone and any other device you have to heat while charging!!!

This, everything gets hot while being used
Like a engine it gets hot while being used
Your phone should get warm, but not hot. If it's getting hot, then there's a problem.
If you're not sure whether the phone is warm or hot, then it's simply warm. You'll absolutely know it if it's hot. Also, try letting it cool (as you've done), then put the phone back on the charger at as close to 100% charge as you can. Once you're at 100%, touch the phone, then wait 10 minutes. If, after 10 minutes, it's significantly hotter than before, then something is probably wrong, because your phone didn't go into "trickle" mode, like it should. If that's the case, I'd be more inclined to look at replacing the charger, than the phone.
My phone barely gets warm to the touch solely from charging. In fact, the battery temperature usually drops and holds at about 26C when I plug in.
Are you using the phone heavily while it's charging?

Its very normal case for every smartphones. However,
Try plugging in another charger if one is available and see if the issue persist. If the charger is defective you can process you should discard immediately or process for a warranty return if still under warranty.
Remove the battery door and battery from the device, inspect the battery and battery connections. Ensure there is no damaged to the battery, battery pins or contacts on the device. If you have damage to the battery or charging pins, please discontinue use and submit the phone for repair.

Samsung S8+ gets how while wirelesscharging

My Samsung S8+ gets how while wirelesscharging. Is anyone experiencing the same issues?
Mine gets warm but not exactly hot. There will be extra heat due to the tech involved but it's okay unless it's uncomfortably hot.

Did some measuring: The device is at 50°C on the back.
if thats warm but not hot I wouldn't worry. So does mine.
Using the genuine S7 style fast charger I leave mine on the charger when at my desk well beyond full charge at most it's gets slightly warm

Mine gets a lil warm, only time it does actually.
It's because some of the electricity that's transferred wirelessly turns to heat, it's a problem on every wireless charging device. Heat is poison to the battery, the best way to charge the battery taking in mind durability in the future is cable charging with fast charging disabled, no matter what fast charging technologies are invented, slower charge speeds are always better for the battery's health
