Hi evereybody, i have nexus 5 16gb and i wonder this: i use cm 11 rom on my n5 and i edit ( erasing some unnecessary system apps for example talkback.apk etc ) before flashing the zip. And after flashing when i checked system storage on root explorer, i see there is some free space ( 600mb). can i use that free space for installing app or for storage?
Sorry for my english.
Yes, you can use that space to install apps. Just put the apk file in /system/app/ or /system/priv-app/.. Fix permissions and reboot!

You can't realistically change the partition sizes. In theory yes, but it's way beyond anything I'd attempt.

Well if it's the same as older HTC devices / older Nexus devices, we'd need a hacked bootloader first and I haven't seen one of those for a couple of years.

MUST BE ROOTED
Updated 8/17/13
This is for everyone that wants more internal memory for apps and games (that's if you have a large ext-sd like 32gb or 64 gb). I have noticed alot of people need the app to sd feature but can't use that anymore because google seems to think we don't need it LOL. Please follow all instructions.
EDIT: I found a video that will show you how to swap your apps and games to sd and it's very simple. You will be able to get your internal space back and play games and use apps stored on extsd.
EDIT 2: trazfer says that the foldermount app isn't very user friendly and he recomends using GL to SD (root) from the play store here is the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp
I'm leaving the YouTube video below for people to have two options which ever one works out best for that person.
Thanks to trazfer for the report

I have noticed alot of people need the app to sd feature but can't use that anymore because google seems to think we don't need it LOL. Here's what I did! I went here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849 and downloaded this app to get init.d support (must have init.d support). Install busybox by Stericson from the play store and run busybox let the app load after smart install is loaded choose install and then normal install (do not choose smart install) then reboot. If you have the Uni-init v1.0.apk downloaded from the first link I posted just install it run the app choose activate when finished choose verify it should say success then just reboot. Go to second link below and install the Root External 2 Internal SD app and run it. Please follow all the instructions on play store for that app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.codlab.int2ext Please follow all instructions. After doing all of the above you can use your external sd as main storage. Enjoy

Now that we have CWM and a functional ROM can we move apps to the sd card
idk im wondering if this is possible ?
GL to SD
Some apps do work where you can transfer to sd card but some apps you can't, it's pretty cool for big games like asphalt
is this applicable in SM-T210? coz mine says my device doesnt support app2sd.
Moving app to SD functionality is built into my GTab 8.0

Sir. i have found a way to fix this issue that doesn't let us move apps to SD. i have found this Foldermount application which puts the Data or Obb files or anyfile in my Internal Storage into my SD Card Storage. if you still need a fix to this issue i may upload it here.

Foldermount is in the play store.
But if you need to mount more than 3 folders, you will have to pay
Still a great app. (I paid for the app)

Here's a better way:
Use an app like "App Backup & Restore" from the Playstore. It will copy the apks to a folder on your SD card. You can then use a File Explorer to send those apks via Bluetooth. :good:
Try finding it in CM file manager.
I hope you find it!

All your app's installed and linked using Link2SD are saved into your second partition you created as fake internal ram. This second partition is either EXT2 or EXT3, Linux format.

Hi friends, I was trying a mod to get facebook to sync my contacts which required me to delete contact storage and replce contacts provider.apk in system/priv-app but after rebooting I was getting 'com.android.systemui has stopped' error so i had to go into recovery mode and delete contacts app completely from 2-3 locations like data/data, system/app to get my phone working again but now I am getting force close when I open people app.
I tried installing gapps but it doesn't have people app built in, plz help. And I am currently travelling so I cannot download ROMs and extract files as was suggested somewhere.

Well you'll have to. Its best to flash an entire rom. Lesson learned here I think. Dont mod on the go.

No, system apps are all in the rom, not in Gapps.
Hi,
Try to flash the zip in attachment (wipe Dalvik cache just in case) for Contacts.apk. If you have not a custom recovery extract the file, move it to /system/priv-app, set the correct permissions like the other system apps (rw-r--r--) and reboot.
I gues you are deodexed? Because here it's deodexed...
You still have ContactsProvider.apk or not? I put it in the zip file, delete it if you still have it in /system/priv-app.
Or if you have moved it in another locaton, keep it in the zip but delete it on your phone.
The next time don't forget to make a backup...
Here's 442 stock odex of you need it
Thanks, the odex zip worked, it didn't flash but i pasted the 4 files n set permissions and it worked.
Thanks a lot

I think the stock had specific ringtones but I'm not sure. I didn't use it for very long.
Ideally I would like to have both the motorola and CM ringtones available.
thank you
Custom roms remove the stock ringtones. I asked this question a while back but no one answered so I guess it isn't possible.
It is possible as far as I know, just copy them from the system folder and put them in the new one, give permissions and they should be there when you reboot

Inside you can find the downloads for the stock ringtones in case you already installed CM or dont have root. (MEGA link works fine)
Errrr.... FYI you can read /system.... Just copy the files. You can't modify however. (Without root)

Just wondering if there's any workaround to this but obviously, whenever flashing a fresh new rom and fully wiping the phone, all music pinned to Google Play Music becomes unpinned and have to be repinned again which can be annoying if you're a rom junkie. I used to move around on roms more frequently but my library is just too big now and switching roms becomes this huge task.
I was just wondering if there was anyway at all to keep pinned music on Google Play Music on the phone after clean flashing a new rom? (Other than moving the music manually to the phone via USB ofc, I still want to use the cloud).
Thanks in advance.

Restoring through TB doesn't restore the pinned tracks I don't think. I haven't tried that in a while but the short amount of time it takes to back up Google Play Music alone shows it doesn't work I think. Also, the back up size is much too small so I'm pretty sure that doesn't work :/

Yeah that's what I mean. Making the music I have uploaded on my account available offline by pinning them and keeping that from rom to rom.
Where does it store it?
Maybe titaniums "backup external data" covers it?
If Not, I could probably write you a couple of bash shell scripts to run that would move it to and from /sdcard but may aswell manually the data.

I just tried the external data preference and the backups are still only 7MB total which is farrrr to small consideirng i've pinned 10GB+ of music. Anyhow, the problem is the pinned music does not show up in plain sight on the internal storage so moving them manually isn't really an option. Google Play Music hides/encrpyts it somehow I guess. I would hate to make you go through that, I'm sure someone has found a solution to this already hahahah

Meh, it's easier than you think
I just pinned some music.
The files are not encrypted By the way.
They're stored /data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music
Also the fact they're pinned is stored in a data base table data/data/com.google.android.music/databases/music.db in the "keepon" table
Im not sure if titanium backs up the databases but a simple set of scripts would be
Backup
mv /data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music/* /sdcard/playbackup/music
mv /data/data/com.google.android.music/databases/* /sdcard/playbackup/databases
Restore
mv /sdcard/playbackup/music/* /data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music
mv /sdcard/playbackup/databases/* /data/data/com.google.android.music/databases
