I am trying to copy over the cyanogenmod 11 clock app to my stock rooted rom to /system/app. All copies sucessfully, but once rebooted, the clock app crashes on load.
My current rom is stock, rooted and still odex'd
thanks!
it wont work without the framework thats used in cm. stock framework isnt the same as cm.

Arg. I really want the stock alarm/clock app running but with increasing volume. Is there a way of getting it to work? Its the only thing I have missing on my stock rom (if only there was an xposed mod for it! )

You can replace the one in the Cognition Zip with one from the ASOP ROM before installing.
I attached the one from the ASOP_froyo_cm6 ROM.
If you've already installed cognition, just delete /system/app/Mms.apk then place the aosp Mms.apk in /system/app/ and reboot. I was successful using those steps.
Before using MIUI I had only primiliary used TouchWiz based ROMs and on those TW ROMs I could just drop a system app apk into the /system/app folder on the phone and reboot and it would be installed and such. I could also swap out apk for example if I wanted the browser from Heinz_57 TW ROM instead of the MIUI Broswer I would just swap them out.
Is there a special way to do it or can you not do that at all on MIUI?
Are you setting the permissions. On CM7. You have to set the rw-r-r and reboot.

Also keep in mind it's unlikely you'll be able to use tw based apps on aosp roms.

Hi,
I just installed Vortex's Custom Rom but there are a couple of other apps that were on the stock version that I'd like to have, including swype. I got a copy of all the stock apps for .602 and swype is in there along with some other apps like DLNA, it has both and APK and the ODYK files. I've tried to install swype through the phone but it constantly crashes.
Can someone tell me how to install these apps back onto the custom rom?
Thanks.
You can get swype using the swype beta install... Google it

How about the stock music app? Not really diggin the google one..
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm just trying to update my miui music player with the new ICS theme.. although it would seem that developers are releasing them as stand alone .apk's rather than a theme - this is fine if you don't have miui rom with the miui player installed as a system app.
But if you run a miui rom and have it installed as a system app the new ics miui music .apk wont install as it can't remove the original system app...
I've tried removing the original miui music system app with titanium backup and it boots into recovery, but signature verification fails when I disable this verification I have to boot back up to tell titanium to remove the system apk then it goes back to recovery and signature verification is reenabled by default - so stuck in a catch 22.
My whole phone is ics theme apart from the miui music.. can anyone advise what I can do to install the miui music ics themed apk?
Thanks guys.

You can try pushing them to system/apps but I dont think they will run. If you want the stock apps stick with a stock ROM.
As i understand it...Stock apps are usually Odexed. Custom ROMs are De-odexed. Difference? Odex is the part loaded to the dalvik cache to help make the phone boot quicker. So the phone maker separates the APK into two files. The apk and odex. You cannot just run the file with the APK alone...you NEED the odex. A custom ROM would de-odex the files and they are combined into one. It WILL NOT run odex files. I have tried on a few ROMs on the bionic to get it to run stock apps in a custom rom if i included the odex. Still wouldn't work. If you can find someone to compile the APK and ODEX for you it may work.

Edit: plus many apps on this device like the weather clock are tied to touch wiz. You cannot use them outside of it. Even on another launcher with the stock ROM (nova [my fave], apex, go, etc)
If you want stock bloated apps use a touchwiz rom.
Good luck
