need some help understanding.. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

well i was lookin at the forums of the s3 the att one to be exact http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538991 and there is a post in the forum that says install custom recovery.. with the 4.3 update and i tryed it and i got a error kernel error so i just re did the 4.3 odin file

If you have Verizon, they locked the boot loader on 4.3, so you can't use a custom recovery. AT&T did not so what you read over there doesn't apply.

[Q] Newb Needing Help Unrooting *Not One-Click*

Noob here,
I am wanting to unroot by samsung galaxy i897 on rogers network in Canada. I just rooted it using the superoneclick method. Now whenever I try to enable my wifi the phone keeps rebooting till I pull the battery and restart. I have decided that I am too stupid to have a rooted phone and am looking for a simple way to unroot my phone and restore it back to the standard gingerbread 2.3 it was running on before. I have tried the super one click unroot method, following the guide on this forum and it hasn't worked.
Thanks
simplest method is to flash to stock firmware
Hit me on the thanks button if you find it useful ; )

Another Noob Question
And how would I go about doing that?
You can use ODIN to flash to stock rom
Sent from my Galaxy Tab using xda premium
Ok, so I tried using odin to get back to the stock rogers rom using the roms posted on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979133
But even though odin says it was successful, the firmware is still AT&T. Any ideas why?
Did you try to wipe dalvik cache, wipe data before flashing to stock rom

Found a thread will the proper rogers firmware. All seems to be working well now. I think I was just just using incorrect at&t firmware. Thanks for the help.

[Q] Questions about the new Jelly Bean update

I would post this under development, but I need 10 posts to do that. So I hope someone will look here to help me out.
So I got the new update yesterday. I have nothing against the stock rom, But it broke my tethering app. I found a way to root my S3. [GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean OTA ***UPDATED*** - xda-developers
No problem there. I was looking to install a version of Paranoid Android, But using Goomanager this was not an available rom. (Is there one for the S3) I tried a few other roms and they all looked kind of chunky to me. A few had a flicker effect when you went to the home screen (aokp milestone 1 and bean)
Well now i went the route of http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...-back-clean-factory-stock-update-10-23-a.html And I am back to Factory fresh rom with an unlocked boot loader. If I were to root the factory rom and leave it what would be the effects in the long run, and is there a costume factory rom (Jelly bean) that would solve my problem...
Thanks
Well first, this shouldn't be posted in development because you're nitty releasing anything. So this Is the right spot.
Second, I'm not sure what you're looking for under original development you'll find the AOKP for us. If you want stock jelly bean that logs like AOSP check out beans build 6

Well I guess I would have liked to post in the thread that had the information in the first place. The thread is where he explained the rooting procedure that was not working for me. All steps worked except the last one. So I have to try to ask my questions over here.
Second, Now that I am back to stock rom I just wanted to see if anyone could answer my question about rooting and leaving it...
Third... Is there a paranoid android available for S3
Gotcha! Guess I misunderstood where you wanted to post, my bad. Then rooting and leaving it is fine, no long term effect. I run stock rooted all the time...until I get bored. Also, here us the official AOKP

Thanks for the reply's So what you are saying is I can run stock root until there is another update and the worst that will happen is it will break my root?????
Like I said I like how stock functions, but it broke my tethering app. I am still on the unlimited data plan and spent 700.00 for the S3 so i could stay there. kind of a waste of cash now that Foxfi wont work. If I can root then I can use open garden.
If your into the programing part. When using oden to root what does this do..VRALEC.bootchain.tar and then they have you do this one at the end.VRBLK3_Bootchain.tar
If I get answers for these I do have one more that I will post later....
Thanks again

Yes you can stay stock rooted and if you use voodoo ota keeper you may even keep root after updates.
The reason you have to flash the old insecure boot chain is so you can unlock your boot loader and install recovery, so that you can then root. The only reason you flash the new one at the end is so that to your boot chain matches your ROM. The last party is optional, but it just makes since to have as much matching as possible.

That is great..now to my last question..(a few more like this and I can post directly to the guys thread)
When doing this step I am using TWRP.
Step 4 - Rooting Your Device and Unlocking Your Bootloader
Quote:
Using your custom recovery flash the download you chose above from Step 1 (#3)
Upon exiting your custom recovery to reboot first time, you will be asked if you want to "Disable recovery flash", you MUST select Yes
After reboot, your ROM will now be fully rooted, have a custom recovery, and/or your bootloader unlocked as well
after flashing SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader I go to reboot but it does not ask about the Disabling of the recovery flash. Should I be worried or should I maybe flash back the Factory bootloader with ODEN after I am rooted??
Sadly, this seems to be the most active thread for Paranoid Android. Currently that thread's original Dev is MIA and the last build he made was based on 2.54 (current PA is 2.99). Another Dev ported 2.99 but people are reporting issues with it. I ran the 2.54 one for a couple of weeks and it wasn't terrible.

I'm not sure if twp had that option. If you can reboot into recovery after booting up your phone you're good

Help with ota JB update

Hello every one I've been trying to install the new JB update from Samsung but everytime I try to install the firmware when it gets to 24% it just restarts and a window pops up telling me the installation failed. I've tried flashing both stock kernel and stock recovery but still no dice. I think it's because of the root. I've tried googling for an unroot but can't seem to find one. Can anyone help me out in my Delima I really want JB lol.
The attachment is a screen shot of my note's software specs. Thanks.

Not Authorized System software ..

I am getting an error after flashing a rom.. the phone comes up with a message stating the software is not authorized by Verizon Wireless. I did the 4.1.2 root/bootloader unlocks .. so I am confused.
The rom I tried first was the Beans10 that I had on my old S3 .. the new one I got yesterday I am having issues now..
Right now I am using a stock JB 4.1.2 that has been deoxed and all..
Thoughts or suggestions??
Thanks!

That just means your boot loader is locked. Unlock your bootloader and you will be fine. Beanstown has a one click root method that is very easy to use and will unlock your bootloader as well.

Yes it will. I was assuming he was rooted from a previous version. If he took the 4.3 Verizon ota update then he will not be able to unlock his phone. But that is what that message is telling him.
Edit: I posted the link to the casual root by beanstown but I hope you read stuff before you just jump in. The OP instructions are made for a reason and it clearly states in there that it is not for people who took the 4.3 stock ota update.
