Not bizarre. Your headphone cable is the antenna.

You can play the FM radio through the speakers already, no hack needed. Of course you need headphones (or really any 3.5mm stereo cable should work I would think) plugged in because they are the antenna as was mentioned, but you can play through the phone's speakers.

How? I have not been able to find a way to do this either.
Just tap the speaker icon on the bottom left of the screen when you're in the FM Radio app.

lol I could swear that was not there before
As I known - FM Radio Speaker is an easy-to-use tool that can turn on the speaker to play when the headphones are inserted.

I think there is no way to have fm radio without the earphones.Actually earphones are the antenna for the fm radio.
I recall seeing a hack for this. Search the forums, this isn't the first time this has come up.

I wish i could listen to the FM radio over my Bluetooth stereo as well.
unfortunately it is not possible
the FM radio will not even work without a 3.5mm plugged in antennae (corded old fashioned stereo headphones, that either breaks apart, or are too cumbersome to carry around..... wires are just so retro)

Dont have a bluetooth set to test this but.
get a pair of normal cheap headphones, cut just the end off plug that into the phone then see if it works with bluetooth.
the reason it asks for headphones is it uses that as the aerial
It can work without them in theory but quality would be lacking.
it gets all staticky
i tried just plugging in an empty 3.5mm spare i had for random projects, and the FM apps does find it, and will start to play FM radio, but quality is worse than 1940s radio
LOL
Then the aerial is needed.
Cut the headphones off and so the wire into your jacket so when in your pocket you can play radio
Sent from my NCC-74656!
You need the headphone connected to act as the aerial...
[edit] My bad - didn't read thread[/edit]
This is what you need : http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/mw600?cc=gb&lc=en#view=overview
They are cheap and the sound quality is great (Hi-Fi), they have a build in FM-Radio. Using them with my SGS, 8 hours of music playback is not bad..
There is no any bluetooth/wireless headphone in the word by which you can hear the FM radio because the cord of wired headphone is act like a antenna/aerial.
But yes there is one solution for this which I tries on my several Nokia and SE P99i phone.Might this will work for you.
Get the 3.5mm headphone jack from the market
Plug this jack to your mobile phone
Now pair your Bluetooth headset
Now start your FM
Please let me know whether it worked or not.

Haha! Well at least your happy! How about buying an extra battery, battery pack or extended batteries?
I Swyped this on my Galaxy S
You're right, I'm happy having my favourite radio station over the bluetooth ... and I'm already using a momax 2700mAh battery.
The part with my battery being not happy is related more to the huge power drain that a constant streaming over 3G is implying in general ... nothing else. Watching a video streaming over 3G is even more power hungry .
Yeah.. us users are to blame , imagine streaming via 3G + bluetooth headset + internet browsing
I will try with this antenna...
I cant put the link, but you can browse:

Anyone else experience the audio notifications and ringtones playing through the back speaker and through headphones at the same time?

Yes, I can confirm this. When using headphones or having my phone connected to my car stereo with the 3.5mm jack the notifications are still played through only the phone speaker.

Hi.
As we know, the audio output (mini plug out) from the Inspire is weak. I see no software fix for it and I want to boost the sound to my car stereo. Does anyone know of a small amp with female mini plugs (one input-one output) that can fix this issue?
Thanks.
No issues with mine. I just turn on equalizer. Guess it really depends on how loud you want it. Equalization will only enhance it.

No. It only boosts what's being played by it.
I too have the same issue (Toyota?)... It's not an issue with the car's stereo because any other device works fine. I have noticed that some apps are REALLY quiet. I use the built in Music player because it seems to be the least worst, but yeah, definitely an issue with the device. Boo.
There are a lot of options. Search google for inline headphone amplifier.

I have FiiO E5 that is designed for headphones it might be a good choice, I will have to try it sometime! I dunno I just turn up my headunit haha and I turn off the EQ when in my car due to it just muddying up the bass and such...
I did not see this listed here so I though I would let you all know about a nice device that will let you stream music and voice to your car using your aux port. I set this up in my car and love this device. I now have hand free voice calls in my car thanks to this device.
Voice - when you get a call the audio will come through your car speakers. The mic picks up your voice very will.
Sounds - The music quality sound great using this a phone with apt x support. I now only use my phone for all my music in may car. You an also use any app in your car. Google Music, Pandora .. ext.. will work in your car.
Just wanted to share this with you all. Best 40 bucks I have very spent.

I think you can still use this just for audio and your raido for your bt calls. I know i cant be set like what for cars that have bt built into them. You may want to try out it. The audio quality for music is great. A lot better then just using standard bt
This accessory thing is awesome. I replaced my FM transmitter after I got a new car with an AUX port. Sound quality is infinitely better and best yet, this thing is very discrete, you can hide it on the dash behind the steering wheel so that it's in conspicuous. It matches my dash so it blends in

One question: if the car radio has a Aux In port why dont you just connect the S4 headphone jack to it, instead of using that device?

My car has Bluetooth for calls. And aux in which I use for music via the headphones jack. But this device is good because it means I can get rid of the headphones cable and use Bluetooth instead. Much tidier. And good quality audio too.

You still need a cable. There is a cable that is directly connected to the receiver. It's pretty long too, I had to wind it up.

This is a multi part question. First of all, does our phone have an FM Transmitter? I'm looking to play songs off my phone to an older car without Bluetooth by broadcasting an FM signal. I don't want to buy a piece of hardware for it. This should be doable if our phone has the transmitter.
Second, if it does have these capabilities, what apps can handle doing this? I haven't found anything yet.

No, it does not have an FM "transmitter." It does have an FM receiver built-in to the chipset, however Verizon doesn't supply the apk to listen (as the other poster said, once you find the apk, which is available on xda, you need to plug in headphones which act as an antenna. BT earphones won't do the trick.)
If your older car has a cassette player, that's an option (although I suppose the adapter is a piece of hardware).

I recommend Motorola Roadster 2 (if there's not a 3 already available.)
It acts in a manner very similar to a factory hands-free systems you get with newer cars -
it turns itself on and off with your car, so you only need to charge it like once every 3-4 weeks,
It does the basic voice dialing and answering pretty well,
It can output to an FM frequency so you can do stuff over the car speakers, and it has a dedicated play music button.

I have a Roadster 2, and the sound quality over FM is pretty bad. Also, automatically turning on/off is based on motion sensing, and isn't as reliable as it should be; I've gotten into the habit of turning it off/on manually when I need it since I can't count on it to automatically be on.
If you want the best sound quality through an older audio system, look into a line-input adapter. They're usually $60-$80 and require that you remove the radio from the dashboard temporarily to install. I've installed one in my Chevy Silverado 2500HD and wired it to a 3.5mm jack I mounted in my dashboard; I can use a regular 3.5mm M-M stereo cable to listen to music from my M8 (and previously my Droid RAZR MAXX).
This is the unit I purchased. It's for GM radios, but unfortunately is discontinued. Crutchfield has a "wizard" for searching for units compatible with your vehicle, though.
You can also get a wired FM modulator from WalMart for like $30.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-FMMOD02-Universal-FM-Modulator/19407742
It needs to get 12V+ and GND from your car (easily done by splicing it into the power leads to your stereo, really you can pull the pin out of the header and just wrap the leads and stuff it back in - no need for tape or sharp objects. It then physically plugs into the antenna input (and you plug your antenna into it), and when its switched on it cuts off the car's antenna and gets its signal directly from the device plugged into it. Since your car's actual antenna is disabled, you will get no interference, no matter what station you set it to, and the sound quality will be the closest to a direct line as you could get. I used to have one in an old Ford Explorer with the stock head unit, sounded great with my iPod back in the day.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.
I too have a Roadster 2.
1) The sound quality over FM is very good. There seems to be a certain set of frequencies that the unit itself picks with its dedicated function, and those are usually free of interference from the existing stations.
Hey, Dodge DeBoulet, you need to increase the Bluetooth volume on your phone to maximum, not your car stereo volume, to get good sound.
2) The motion sensing (really sound sensing, if you want to be accurate) is very good on my unit. It turns on when I open the car door without fail. It seems to turn off when the BT signal is out of range. In other words, it works perfectly.
Dodge DeBoulet, you probably have a defective unit. You need to exchange it.

Umm, yeah. I tried every combination of volume control on the phone, on the Roadster 2 itself, and on the radio. Volume wasn't the issue; it was interference no matter what frequency was selected, static, and overall poor fidelity

I never really looked into the technology used to turn it off/on without hitting the switch, but I do know that it was too undependable for me. Part of the problem may have been that in my usual parking locations, I would often find that my phone was still connected to the Roadster 2 even when I was inside my home (or camp). I'd go to answer the phone and discover that, even though I was in my office, the other end of the conversation was happening inside my truck.
It works OK for hands-free calls, as long as I don't have the windows open or the heat/AC cranked up high. I've given up on getting it to work with the radio, though.

Well, I've had it for almost 2 years. I don't think it's under warranty any more. That said, I'll probably replace it shortly with an Audi A6 or BMW 535i. I understand both of those devices are great for hands-free smartphone use
