[Q] CAN I FLASH Nexus 5 Kitkat's on my Galaxy S4? - General Questions and Answers

Hey there everyone , i have a question can i flash Nexus 5 kitkat's official rom on my Galaxy s4? will it run okay? is it applicable?

No you can't, no it won't run okay, and no its not.
These two devices are completely different, if you flash the Nexus 5 firmware on your S4, make sure to get a rubbish bin ready because your phone will be nothing more than paperweight.
Don't ever flash another devices firmware to your device, this will break almost everything and its really hard to unbrick from there. Only flash the firmwares for your device only.
If I helped, don't hesitate to hit that Thanks button

Chinese Android Phones can you flash?

i want new phone unlocked because my g1 is slow but i was curious if there was a way to know if the chinese android phone is flashable and using which rom? and which is a good phone to buy ...
bumpppppp/
It hasn't even been 3 hours, there's no need for a bump. Also I don't think those cheap knockoffs can be flashed but it's possible. First you have to root it though which is probably possible with one of the "one-click root" apps. Actually flashing one is a bit more involved because of hardware differences. Next time just get the real phone instead of a knockoff, save yourself some headache and heartache at not being able to do everything you want.
i actually have a g1 thank you very much handsome
Well then take out the "next time"s from my previous post and I stick by it. Knockoffs generally aren't that great. Getting the real version from a store is better, even craigslist or ebay.
I rooted my galaxy note replica with bin4ry it worked perfectly as for flashing i have flashed a few things but to flash a rom it would be harder because i have found out i would have to port the custom rom to work with my device.

What did I miss? Why the assumption that the OP is talking about a "cheap knock-off". Maybe he means a Huawei, or ZTE or something.
Rooting android from China
Ok, i don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but i'm desperate. I want to flash my phone that i recently bought in China, but i'm getting no where. The problem is that i can't find recovery mod that will work on my phone. If someone have any idea what recovery mod should i try, please suggest it to me.

It will depend on the device you have. You should search xda for your device name, but if it is a cloned device, you may not be able to find anything, because some clones are not well supported.

Can I CWM a non-development phone bought in the shop?

Do I need one of those "vanilla" developer phones if I'm to install a custom ROM on my Note 3? As far as I know, nope. You can root any Android phone.
I'm fairly sure that I can ClockWorkMod + install custom ROM on a phone I purchase in a shop. But I just want to make sure .
Thank you in advance .
You are joking, right ?
If not, yes.

Although my question seemed that of a noob, I can assure you I am not. My first rooted phone was HTC Tytn2 which I rooted using Duty's ROM's which I found here back in 2008. So no worries . Now I have a rooted SG2. I know all the procedures, safety steps and so on.
The reason I asked such a dumb question was that I had a 1% uncertainty regarding this, which I was unwilling to risk on.
As far as I know, the so-called dev-phones are simply loaded with a vanilla version of Android, no Samsung bloatware.
Anyway, thank you guys for calming my fears .

There´s only one Google Edition phone in Samsung, the S4. Still, you can get a "normal" S4 and still flash it like crazy.

[Q] about flashing roms

I'm now using Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 with android 4.1.2. Recnetly, I want to flash the S5 roms posted by other developers. However, those roms are in android 4.3 or 4.4.2. Can I directly flash it or do I need to upgrade my device to android 4.3 first?
thanks so much!
You can't flash a s5 ROM onto your s3, it will brick.

ok, i looked into the s3 forum and i see the s5 rom there.
this is either a rare instance where another phones rom is compatible or more likely what is known as a "port". it wasnt obvious right off what was the case.
either way, sorry for the confusion, it would be ok to flash that as long as its says its compatible with your phone.
generally speaking, you cant just grab a rom for any phone and flash it to another. that would result in a brick, and i jumped to conclusions and thought that was what you were trying to do.
as far as, if you need to upgrade first, im not sure about that.
some roms require you to be on a specific version first, otherwise it will bootloop after you flash the rom.
reason being, roms dont usually replace all parts of the software, but are built off or made to work with certain versions specifically because the use some of those non replaced parts to work correctly.
i would read through a few pages of the rom post. most likely someone has asked if it will work on whatever version or stated what version you need to be on for it to work.
if you cant find any answer, then i would ask the question there.
sorry i cant be of more help.
one bit of advice that i always follow myself, read into flashing back to stock and download all needed files and tools first. this way, if you have any issues, or just dont like the rom, you already have a backup plan in place to get your phone working again like you want it.
just my 2c hope that helps.

[Q] What Happens If I Put One Firmware to Another Device

Hi all! I'd like to ask you what would happen if I put Samsung Galaxy S II's stock firmware to my S II Plus via Odin? Will it work properly or it will brick?
Thank you in advance!

I guess it'll brick but I don't know so I that I asked you "What Happens If I Put One Firmware to Another Device"
I would guess that your guess is 100% correct.
Whell, you can get a very expensive paperweight
There is absolutely no way you should ever flash firmware that is destined for another device. Sometimes it's possible, but that is the exception. And that is only when two very similar devices are given different monikers (different part of the world... Dual Sim..) but nearly no other changes at the hardware level.
OK, right! Thank you all!
You are welcome

***Flashing International Roms on Canadian Note 5 (n920W8)

Hi Everyone!
I was hoping someone with more experience could answer something for me. Does anyone know if we can flash international roms on the n920W8 canadian note 5?
I remember back when I had a t-mobile note 5, I could flash international roms as long as i flashed a working kernel and flash audio call fix.
I would love to try international roms, but I can't seem to get them to boot up.
Any help would greatly be appreciated and I will certainly remember to hit your thanks button!!!
Yes you can.
Spend some more time reading around for w8 specific content/how to so I don't misinform you.
I use the n5 express version 5 from rmarinella http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-note5/development/rom-n5-express-1-0d-t3326638
I've tried some others that require doing some extra stuff to get working.
But that rom I install it and it works how I like with almost nothing I do not like.

Awesome and thank you for the reply. I did get that rom to boot up, but for whatever reason I can't get any of the other roms to boot at all.
