[Q] Accesing phone with broken display (basically it is brain dead) - General Questions and Answers

Dear XDA members!
I will quickly describe my problem and I will be glad if someone can try to help me.
My phone fell from 4th floor. In repair shop they said its dead, nothing can be backep up or helped, buy a new one. It is HTC One X, the screen is intact, yet the insides are messed up. The phone charges, reacts on side buttons with volume. I had avast anti theft installed there, phone is connected to wifi aparently, it accepts commands from this application like "siren on", "siren off" and locate. I managed to obtain contacts from there with "back up" command. Only the contacts, nothing more. I have air droid app installed there, but since the display is dead i cannot launch it.
MY QUESTION:
Is there an app that can remotely launch other apps? I can install anything into my phone with play.google.com on my computer, but I cannot launch it (i dont know what am I tapping on my HTC). Do you think I can get at lease some of my data back? SMS or pics?
Thank you for your help!
Kind regards;
Martin

Yes you can through the power of adb.
But the bug question here is, is debugging enabled. If it simply plug your HTC device onto your computer, and use the following commands to backup files.
adb pull /sdcard/foldersname
The files in that folder should be filled to your adb directory.
If I helped, don't hesitate to hit that Thanks button

[Resolved] [Q] Retrieve contacts with a Bad Digitizer and Screen Lock Code on Touch Pro 2 SOLVED

I have an HTC Touch Pro 2 that now has a bad digitizer, and I am unable to use any touch-required functions. I only wish to retrieve the contacts from the phone in a way that I can get them on a new phone, even if it just means re-entering them into a new device. I just do not have any back up of the contacts, and need to be able to access the list on the phone.
I cannot "slide to unlock", so I am unable to navigate the phone or install anything on the phone. When I connect to my PC with an SD card it will connect in Mass Storage mode, and I can access the SD card only (not the phone system files). If I remove the SD card, and attempt to connect with ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center I am prompted to enter my screen lock code on the phone - which I cannot do because the digitizer is broken. I do know the lock code, if there is any way to enter it without using the touch screen.
I have been searching around quite a bit, and I found a program called MyMobiler that looks like it would work, if I could get past the lock code. I have also downloaded the Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys, which also is unable to connect to the phone until I can enter the screen lock code.
Just to clarify, I have thoroughly read over this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852189#9434585
Is there ANY way that I can get access to the phone long enough to even just physically read and re-enter my contacts? Being able to import them would be nice, but I just don't have any backup whatsoever. Thanks for your help.
****UPDATE****
Solution: By pressing 911 on the keyboard, the phone assumed I was trying to make an emergency phone call and brought up the pin pad. I backspaced the 911, and typed in my unlock code. Now I am into the phone, and I can use the keyboard to navigate, and I can transfer the contacts to the computer. So glad I figured this out, and I didn't need to pay anyone to fix it for me. Good luck to anyone with the same problem.

Help! touch screen broken, and AndroidScreencast problems!

Hello people,
Like 2 days ago, i dropped my htc desire hd on the floor and now 70% of the touch screen is not working anymore, but also i cannot enter my code/password and i cannot remove it by email cause i can't enter it. so i find out some "AndroidScreencast" and i tried to set it up but it returned the error: "List of devices attached" but i can't just get in my phone to change settings, because it only recharges the phone if i put it in my computer, i just need to get rid of that password thing and need to be able to let it work with "AndroidScreencast" but i have seriously no idea how i'm gonna do that.
So maybe there's anybody who has an idea?
Kind Regards,
Gm33
Anybody can help?
if it's hardware problem, you better return it or exchange or get a new one.
I just need to get a way to get into my phone, it would be awesome it control it by pc (windows) or being able to connect a keyboard to it, to reset the password thing. anybody?
Please? I really need all my contacts, photos, whatsapp history, anything on it!

[Q] Xoom touchscreen will not work.

About three days ago, the touchscreen on my xoom just quit working. The LCD and the Glass are completely fine, but it does not register any touches. It is completely stock, non-rooted, and locked. What I need to know, is there any way I can retrieve the pictures or other files off of the device without the use of the touchscreen? I'd like to get this data off of the device before I send it back for warranty repair. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Brandon
Sounds like the digitizer has gone out. Can you connect the Xoom to your PC and just use the "open folder to view files" option, assuming you have the drivers installed on your computer? If so, you can just copy/paste directly to your desktop or wherever you so choose...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
It detects the xoom, and brings up auto play. However, when I select browse the files, nothing shows up.

Need to recover files for police (D6603)

Hi there.
I have a Sony D6603 where the screen has been broken. The phone starts up and you can feel it responding to commands, the screen backlight comes on but no text etc
My problem is this. The phone was stolen last month but a tip off allowed me to get it back. We know the culprit but he keeps demanding the phone back as he has important data on it. We said no we would give it to police. However the police say they cannot go thru the phone and that I need to get the data off to show them. This culprit is so desperate for the phone that he attempted to break in the house to steal the phone back!
Problems -
When connected to computer, it shows the phone as a drive but is blank
No way to turn USB debugging on (Is there a way of using some sort of recovery to get files off even though I cannot access the debugging screen to turn it on?
This is very important so any help will be appriciated :good:
This is hilarious
Have you tried enabling File transfer after plugging your phone in? The phone is shown bank when file transfer is not enabled.

Can't you film yourself doing a factory reset then suggest they sue you for losing data on your phone whilst it was stolen.
I have actually had to do this with a Z3 with a dead screen. If it is encrypted however you will have no luck so don't even try as it will force a factory reset and you lose everything.
Use this to install TWRP recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/recovery-root-mm-575-291-lb-t3435214
Follow the OP exactly and you will have recovery.
Boot to recovery (when rebooting press the down volume key at the first green light) and then use adb (TWRP now has this) to command TWRP to commence a data backup: http://www.pocketables.com/2014/10/using-twrps-new-adb-interface.html
(or if you can just extract the data with adb directly this will also work, but I don't see it as a command.)
As far as I know if you use flashtool and TWRP you won't need to use the screen and with TWRP's adb interface you should have more luck getting the data.
Good luck - careful when you get the data that you don't break any weird laws for looking at it. Might be a breach of his privacy blah blah. Anyway he's very stupid for using a stolen phone for sensitive data....

How do I enable adb debugging and otg with a black screen and no otg cable?

Hello, I just broke the screen of my OnePlus8t Verizon network unlocked phone. The computer I previously linked 8t with also has a broken screen. ... Rains it ..... My Phoe has some important information in docs and screenshots I need to get. I just turned off ADB debugging thinking "Oh I don't need that just yet" the very morning I broke the LCD. Good news, I can still answer it. I already have adb.exe except in ADB shell it shows as unauthorized. I need those files like yesterday. I have an otg/ADB flash drive, but I still can not connect to retrieve files. I can see my phone when I directly connect to comp without the flash drive, however, I can not access it. I have tried to put the phone into recovery, but I have no way to enter the pin as I have tried to guess where it is. How can I receive the data I need from my phone?
Thank You.
P.S. I have little knowledge and only learn what I need to know for whatever project, in other words, I can not code and I barely speak dos.
Is the touch screen still working then?
If it's showing "unauthorized" you can try to plug it into your desktop and then hit the "authorize" button on the popup that you can't see.
Here is where ok is on a different phone. It's somewhere near there on yours.

I have tried that. The finger print unlock screen only works ⅔ of the time. I have no way of knowing if it's unlocked. I keep my touch sounds silent. I keep trying to find where it might be. I have tried to slide as if answering a call. Is there a way to force the USB settings for media transfer? Maybe through Google? If any platform knows it's my phone is Google. I can go to the play store and push apps onto it. Unfortunately the two adb drivers I have installed on my Android didnt work.
Oh, actually, you've got it easier! The OnePlus 8t supports HDMI over USB Type C.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/does-one-plus-8t-have-video-out-through-usb-c.4465629/
Buy an adapter and hook up an HDMI monitor/TV.
Or just use a new monitor on the computer that is already authorized.
Is there any other way. Right now it is not with in the budget to afford any extras even with the price tag of $20. I am hoping there is a way within an adb shell to force turn on the adb debugging. I have developer options enabled. I would just rewrite the documents, except some of those items I need include the text messaging history. If I can't force the adb, can I remotely back up the phone? Is there a trustworthy app for that? I do have quick settings installed and if my memory is correct, I believe I have sideline installed even.
