Before Kitkat, I would have occasional audio hiccups during bluetooth streaming. Now, however, the problem is often so severe as to make a bluetooth stream unusable. A reboot will often fix the problem for a time, but I'm frustrated. Is anyone else having this problem?
I've noticed the same thing since upgrading to KitKat. A reboot helps, but the problem comes back after a while.

Yeah Ive noticed it a bit as well, thought it was my Bluetooth headphones being old but a reboot helps. It comes and goes for me, fine one day and skipping a lot the next.

Is anyone else having problems with the bluetooth in the car? I am pretty frustrated with the performance of the bluetooth in my car (Infiniti G37xS). I used to have a Rezound and that worked pretty much flawlessly. As soon as I got in my car it would automatically connect (since I leave BT on). The Rezound also connected for both media audio and phone audio, meaning I could be streaming music but it would still be connected as a phone in case I got a call.
Now on to the SGIII...It is extremely hit or miss whether the phone connects to my car automatically (mostly miss). When it does connect, it seems to only let me connect as media audio or phone audio. If I try to check both it disconnects and won't work. So that kinda defeats the purpose of BT in a car IMO. Then the next issue, when I finally get it to connect to stream music, it disconnects quite a bit and sometimes it takes me forever to get it to reconnect. I have to switch outputs in my car, turn off/on BT on the phone, etc just to get it to reconnect.
It is VERY annoying. Does anyone else have these issues? Why is this so much different than my Rezound? Anything that I can do to alleviate any of these issues? (Other than using a cable for streaming)
I had issues with my first GS3, it would make a clicking nose so they replaced it. This one works great. My wife's car is the only one with the BT connection but when ever I use her car it works seamlessly. Sorry you are having issues. I'd talk to vzw to see if they'll replace it. Have you modified your GS3? If you're running a custom rom then I would go through vzw.
The phone is 100% stock. I really don't want to return it for a refurbished phone though if I can avoid it.

My experience with stock on 3 vehicles, one Chrysler, one Ford, and one with an aftermarket Sony head unit was no issues whatsoever. As soon as I began to run CM10, I have had nothing but issues just like you described, connect to phone and no media, etc. I also have a friend who has a stock S3 with a Nissan and has no issues with Bluetooth. I did have issues with the Nexus in a Ford, and it was rectified when there was a Sync update. If you are current with updates in the car, I might consider a swap if I were you.
Stock phone syncs with my Ford just fine. On CM10 I have to use the alternate sync method for syncing. Does Infiniti offer that option? It may help.

I get an occasional (once a week or so) disconnect and then I have to turn off the car and turn it back on to reconnect. Annoying.

My phone connects just fine to my '12 Charger, but the media info does not show up on my screen. I can fast forward, rewind, etc, but I do not get the album art and artist. Anyone have a fix for that? I have moved to PlayerPro because of the issues with the stock player on the phone, and I have enabled the avrcp support but still no avail.
Well I tried it again this morning on my way to work and it worked flawlessly. Both streaming and phone audio. The only thing different was that I installed the new update that Verizon just pushed out (kinda wish I didn't because of all of the crap they put on there, but oh well). At least my BT seems fixed now. Strange.
Thanks for the input from everyone!
I'm having an issue with audio dropouts on my bluetooth headset (plantronics M50). It didn't seem to be a problem in the first week, but the frequency has steadily increased since the end of August. A reboot seems to improve the situation, but only temporarily. I haven't tried other bluetooth headsets, but the same headset on my iPad seems to have no problems at all.
Is anyone else experiencing bluetooth audio dropouts? I have not had it occur during a phone call, btw.
It happened for me only for two days or so with only one of my headsets. Seems to be working fine now.

I'm using Jaybird JF3 Freedom stereo bluetooth earbuds with my Maxx and have not encountered this issue. Just another data point for you.
Happens all the time to me.
Hopefully an update to 4.3 will fix it as my old Nexus didn't have any issues.
Android 4.2 (current Maxx version) didn't some with built in A2DP support but Moto added it. Whereas Android 4.3, Google has added it to Android, which should hopefully clear the issues a lot of people have been reporting with A2DP currently; i.e. static, stops working, blips in audio, etc.
I'm having bad sound quality when making call through Bluetooth in my car. It sounds like the audio is breaking up. Anybody else have this problem? My note 3 was working just fine through bluetooth

I also noticed the same thing yesterday driving home. I did not have this problem earlier in the week. I'm not sure what is going on. This along with a strange wifi problem has recently surfaced. If I leave my wifi range and then return, it does not want to reconnect. I have to toggle the airplane mode then wifi will reconnect. I am running stock 11s rooted with 2.7.1.0 TWRP, Xposed framework, Xpoxed GEL, Gravity Box, Tasker, Autovoice.

I am. I'm looking for suggestions for things to try and improve the stuttering/skipping/dropouts that I'm experiencing when using my OnePlus One in media playback mode through my Chevrolet MyLink car radio. I have some additional details to offer and things I have tried:
1) The playback application doesn't seem to make any difference, the problem is most pronounced (unlistenable) when playing back music files and is highly annoying when listening to speech (e.g. podcast) files. I suspect the difference is the music having a beat that gets interrupted while there are some normal pauses in speech so the stuttering blends in a bit more. In any event, it's not a problem with the playback application.
2) It seems unlikely to be a problem with the car radio (Chevrolet MyLink). Though I haven't done extensive testing I have done some using my old Motorola Atrix HD with a nightly CM11 on it from a few weeks back and that does not seem to have the issue, or at least it is not nearly as severe.
3) When I use a third party bluetooth audio receiver (some cheap no-name one from ebay) the quality seems to be fine but when I try to go directly to the car stereo I get tons of stuttering/skipping/drop outs.
A friend suggested that I try running an alternative kernel and see if that improves things. Any ideas on whether that may be the case or which one might be the best to try? Any other suggestions? It's quite annoying that I can't playback audio through the car radio...
Thanks!
Anyone have any ideas? I tried running the Franco kernel tonight and it seems to have the same issue. I did some logcat captures and I seem to be getting a lot of "W/bt-btif ( 2104): btif_media_aa_prep_2_send congestion buf count 24" messages when playing back audio through the car radio. See the attached full logcat captures with both the stock and Franco kernels and connected to both an alternative Bluetooth dongle and to the MyLink car radio.
Any suggestions?
After further testing I was able to determine this is an issue with the phone and not the car radio as I was able to find at least one other BT device which exhibits the same issue. I have created a ticket for this issue at: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-1005 if you are also experiencing this issue you are encouraged to go and vote for the ticket.
One question though. Do you have WiFi on when traveling in your car? Try turning it off and see if you still get skipping.
I do in fact have WiFi on at all times. I tried turning it off for the day today while doing some driving and it appeared to clear up the problem. I would think it's still a bug because having WiFi on should not prevent BT audio from working correctly but it at least gives someone a direction to investigate.
So I've done some slightly longer term testing and what I can say is the problem is not totally cleared up when WiFi is off but it is much, much better (definitely listenable). I will still get a couple dropouts when first starting a stream (sometimes, not always) but after 30 seconds to a minute it seems to settle down and be fine as long as I keep the WiFi off.

Just to clarify the situation..
My Xperia Z2 have the same issues.. It is not your phone but the Bluetooth stack in android that pretty much sucks the problems you are dicribing has been there since android 4.2 on a lot of devices.
I have just changed my Lumia 1020 out with this Z2 and call me disappointed in music quality! On the Lumia you would have trouble hearing a difference between jack/auxiliary and Bluetooth..
And today I did notice some dropouts even with WiFi off well into my drive but it was just a few packets I would guess more of an annoyance than a serious problem. I've heard about issues in the Android BT stack but the confusing part of that is why certain devices (such as my Atrix HD) don't seem to experience the problem.
I have a bluetooth stereo I use every morning in my home and a bluetooth stereo in my car. I almost exclusively use pandora, but I have also used power amp on longer trips. I have never experience this issue with my opo. I have ran 25-33 all rooted with no problems and am currently using CM11 nightlies. I also am not having any wifi issues.
Sorry it's not very helpful, but it doesn't sound like a widespread issue at least.
It certainly has something to do with the particular bluetooth implementation used by the receiver interacting with the OPO. As I indicated I have three different BT receivers I can test with and the problem affects two of them but not the other.
I recently got my Nvidia Shield for Christmas and upon installing the ATT LTE data Sim I seem to have a crackleing sound when using data. It does not make the sound while not using data example just playing music or games but it will if I'm listening to music and say... Search the web or anything like that. The noise doesn't happen when using WiFi or listening over the tablet speakers.
I have another sound problem that occurs seldomly when playing music over the speakers (both with WiFi and LTE). The tablet makes a, what I call, transformer like noise; the noise to the best I can describe sounds like a medium tone zap not high pitched.
Does anyone else have these problems and how do I fix them/do I need to sent this one back?
We have discussed a similar thing here;

Is this the sort of thing you mean?
Thanks
I get the digital sound stretch/squelch "transformer" noise you're referring to sometimes. I'm not sure how you'd fix that: I think it's a quirk of this tablet.

I don't have the crackling happen to the speakers only the squelch.
I get it some times, I've had it happen when there are a lot of apps going, and if an app hits high cpu load it seems. It'll do it for a moment, and clear up for a while. Closing down the backgrounded apps seems to help me. YMMV
Edit: You running latest update? I noticed it start after the 5.0.1 update.

I've had this same issue on every version of the OS. I've had the tablet since a week after release in August and have run every update on the tablet and still get the noise, sometimes it is rather loud. It seems to do it more when stressing the tablet, I used to have Real Racing 3 on the tablet with the graphics modded to run at their highest, it would occasionally freeze up, and when it resumed, the speakers would squeak nearly every time.
I may not have just noticed it prior. But yours appears to be the same that mine is doing.

Please please help me - this is driving me nuts...
When playing back audio 90% of the time i will get an awful stuttering... it seems fine if i use wired audio
Sometimes it will work just fine, but most of the time it's really bad
I found somewhere online that seemed to link it to wifi scanning - i tried turning this off and it worked briefly, but then was back to how it was
Also, should probably add, it doesnt seem to matter what app I use - tried Spotify / Deezer / Google Music - all downloaded music
Any ideas?
Try to turn of bluetooth scanning. Go to Settings-> Location-> 3 dots

Darn
So guessing there isn't a solution out there then?
There is a talk.sonymobile.com z5 suite thread on this issue, you might want to follow up hoping for a permanent fix. There are several more or less temporary solutions in the vein of just rebooting, rebooting to safe mode and back, or just clear all apps cache. Few questions for you, is it only aptx headphones or speakers with this issue or even regular bt? Is the stuttering new to MM or was it already in LP too?
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Phone is brand new so only ever used on MM
Rebooting fixed very briefly.
Headphones are not aptx to my knowledge - they were fairly cheap from Amazon, but worked absolutely fine on my last phone, so I know it's not them...
Well, on train now and apart from some very minor stutters (which are barely noticeable) this solution has fixed the issue!
Massive thanks for the suggestion and help!
Turning off location scanning (mine was never on) doesn't help me. I thought the last MM patch fixed it, but I was wrong. Also, I'm having a problem now where devices will connect, but I will simply not get any audio through those devices. I have to reboot the phone for it to work. I've already posted in sonymobile, but this'll do it. Anyone want to buy a mint condition green Z5?
So I maybe spoke too soon. It is definitely better, but not perfect... Def got a few serious crackles on the way home. I can probably live with it if it stays like this tho
The real solution is to keep posting on that relevant sonymobile thread and thus let Sony know we're not happy with this ongoing issue.
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Yep, def not fixed. Certainly miles better tho.
It's weird - it sounds like it's a strain issue (I.e. too many things running)/but I can be playing Lara Croft for 20mins with music and no stutter, but be messaging on WhatsApp and have it. Very very odd.
Will def post on the Sony Forums
