Impossible. The phone should be connected to a network and the GPS should be ON too... to be able to track the device. If your phone have both hardware for GPS and network connection and your phone is rooted, then u may be able to ON GPS and Network by a sms and track it further.
Avast Antitheft app on rooted devices can track the devices once we report the phone as stolen, following the above method

How about only with GPS?
Any One??please someone help me.
An app that can trace my phone using GPS.
Sorry to tell you, there is nothing you can do with out these
Data Connection, and they are still logged into your google account, other wise you would have to go the route of hacking, and Even then the person needs to be connected via a data connection else they would have to hack into a major cell phone company's system.
No one here is going to help you hack into any systems to help you recover your phone so Your only hope is they are still logged into your account and Data is enabled.
and if they are still using your phone to make calls then they are 1 dumb and 2 you should be talking to your carrier about them helping u find it.

I was wondering. With all the talk about spying. What hasn't someone made a program that will prevent the GPS from being activated remotely.
For non-rooted users, Android doesn't allow apps to turn on GPS without user intervention.
I'm sure GPS can be turned on at any time, without user permission. With that said there has to be something out there that will scramble or disable GPS.

im pretty sure that even rooted devices will popup root access yes/no answer window, so unless u can auto-answer-root-access-with-yes nothing can turn the GPS on.
even if its tunred on and gets lock-on the app would need a some kind of logging on time+gps coorinates or even a internet access to realtime upload the data.
im sure most of ppl would notice that.

Dialing 911 will cause the phone to turn on GPS. The provider can turn on GPS. I'm looking for a bulletproof way to prevent GPS from coming on.

To the ill educated...what ever they tell you, remember, 'it is for the children'.
How about the "Permissions Denied" application?
It has the ability to block a permission for a specific app or for the whole device. Probably has what you are looking for.

There are a number of apps on the market that will allow you to spoof your GPS location. Start here: https://market.android.com/search?q=spoof+gps&so=1&c=apps
That said, if an app requests your location from Android it will get the spoofed location but if an app uses your cell tower ID or Wifi SSID/MAC and does a lookup on its own, it can still locate you.

Triangulation is fine by me. Due to the weather conditions here triangulation most of the time turns into biangulation, and even singulation. It is still a rudimentary form of pin pointing, hence the FCC requiring all cell phones to have GPS abilities.
As far as MAC, I again am fine with that. I do not use the phone via WiFi.
To everyone else:
Did anyone bother to actually read both HTC, Sprint, and Google's Privacy, Terms and Agreements?
Greetings -Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but here it goes anyway...
I installed the AndroidLost APPS onmy Samsung Fascinate...All went well and I'm able to signon to their website...
However not getting any results when clicking the GPS tab to get the phone's location sent to my e-mail account...
I don't have GPS active on my device(have not yet downloaded the apps for that with the vendor)...
Do I need to have GPS active in order to get the location?...I know it sounds like a silly question, but I was under the
impression that I would be able to get the location via the network & GPS would not be required...Any assitance would
be greatly appreciated...Thank you...

It does not talk about other network, I suggest you to try other apps like avast (you install it and it ask about the anti theft, after that you can uninstall the antivirus keeping the antitheft, it's free and if you're rooted it can resist to hard reset) or prey (free, open source). Avast can send you an hidden sms with the position of your phone and so do prey. I've also heard about wavesecure and cerberus a lot..
BTW you can determine the position of your phone with 3 things:
-WIFI (must be on an connected to a net, it can be turned on by some application)
-GPS (must be on manually, I think this one can't be turned on by apps)
-you phone network (avast can turn on data connection)
I suggest you to try these different solution to find the best working one for you
hello, everyone!
my bad if this post is misplaced but couldn't really find a good answer to my specific problem.
basically, i lost my sgs3 today. it had no security apps like android lost, lookout etc. installed and neither wifi nor mobile data were on. have installed from my desktop android lost, but since the phone has no internet connection i don't see how this app can ever be pushed onto the phone.
so basically, my question is if there is anything to be done here? perhaps any code or instruction sent by sms that would trigger the mobile data on!!! i don't suppose so!
anyway, whatever you might think of, i'd appreciate any help!
i'll call the gsm provider at some point to deactivate the sim, unless i can find a way first to locate the phone using their network signal.
many thanks!
Hey guys, which app is best for a find my phone sort of app. I just received a Nexus 5 although I will not be getting a plan for it just yet. I will mainly just be using this as a normal wifi device. I want a "find my phone" sort of app that just in case I lose my phone, I will be able to track where it is from my computer. Can somebody recommend me the best app for this feature.

Yeah but it does not give a solid answer
So the 8 people that said Cerberus isn't solid enough for you? Or are you not looking for anti theft as well? Google already has a locating service built in.

I just want a solid app that I can find my phone with that does not require cellular data or talk and text. It would just require the GPS feature. I am not looking for anti-theft. Plus Cerebus doesn't look like it would be a stable app.
I disagree about the Cerberus.
Try the built-in feature:

The thing about these apps is that they all need some kind of data connection to work. The phone can use only GPS to find out where it is but without a data connection it can't get that information out to you.

So how does this Google Device Manager work then? I thought this shows you on a map of where the exact location is.

It does. When you log into Google Device Manager from a computer or other device it sends a request (through its data connection) to the phone for its location. The phone then finds it own location through cell networks/Wifi networks/GPS and sends that data back through its data connection to Google Device Manager.
This is why it needs a data connection, be it cell data or Wifi, to function. The phone can find its location without out one but has to be connected to send that information out for you to see it.

What makes you think Cerberus wouldnt be stable I have used it for ages now on every phone i have had, works great..you can do so much more than just track your phone! Remote video, pictures, sound loads of stuff.
Hello guys, I saw some apps for android like, comodo anti theft, avast anti theft, eset anti theft, and so on, for locating the phone.
Which one do you recommend or think that is the best?
I have gived a try to avast and comodo, but I saw that if the phone is in the house I can not locate it from the laptop browser / avast web-interface,
as it needs to enable the GPS reciver and gps can not be started automatically or even if it is started it will not "see" the gps sattelites because of the roof. And with comodo I saw no web-interface, only sms texting, and I have only one phone, no secondary phone handy for finding it easy.
I wish to be able do do two simple things by controlling it over internet using a laptop (wify or carrier data 3G/EDGE/GPRS)
1) If I forgot where is my phone in house and I have no other phone, to be able to make the phone to sound an alarm for finding it more easy, it happens often to forget where my phone is in the house
2) Locate the approximate location of the phone by using GSM towers, and NOT the GPS (in case that will be stolen, or I forget where I left the phone, in car / at work / at house etc.)
Hello, well to help you out I use Kaspersky Mobile Security, it has alot of features, you can lock the phone via sms messages, take mug shots, wipe the phone and locate it too, you can look for it in the play store, its a paid app but I think its worth it, I would look into it if I were you and consider it as a viable option. Hope this helps.
You can locate your Android Device with Googles Device Manager and has a features to lock the phone and ring.. Also I believe there is APPs to track your device with GSM towers.

Thx!
I have enabled in settings > Location services > Access my location and google location service, now I can find my location without using gps, avast anti theft works pretty well, I also found an interesting app on google play named Secret Control but it has some ads.
