New version released for Wiko Stairway with all previous fixes and codec for video encoding included.
And it has been updated to 4.4.3

Wifi doesn't work for me. Maybe I can try to take a wifi hw file from 0.6 ?
EDIT: Tried different things but can't get wifi to work. I'm not a developer so I can't investigate further, I'm sorry. Waiting for a fix, rolling back to 0.6.
Oh, and I have Multi SIM Working

Thanks;
So I wouldn't need to, if 0.7 was still 4.4.2 ? But as it is 4.4.3 I need to wipe then.
Nice work, I'm enjoying 0.6v as a daily driver
Thank you

chrmhoffmann is working hard on this cyanogenmod project and you are a great porter.
Thank you really :good:

Are all the versions displayed (even the older ones) alpha builds? I'd prefer having a stable build (no issues on camera, gps, dual sim, etc), though I am unsure if any of the CM ported roms for the Acer Liquid E2 are stable.

Ok I was able to flash it...
Go improve it, still buggy, especially the "call/receive" section (it's a phone after all.. ) it's quite buggy: a permanent "error" occurs but the telephone still calls/receive.....BUT the telephone still rings even after the caller stops the call...
Nice job btw! (I really apreciate the "no frills" app...maybe missing in all the others ICS ROMs I've tried till now...)
good friend, but I think the link does not work. Rest assured that I will be using this rom the daily
i am not able to download. it is telling site is blocked can you re upload it.
waiting for the link
thank you.
Mr. Developer
i really like this work. i am able to access touch screen. blue pointer is not coming. this is good job but still call is not working properly it is giving some error.
really appreciate if you fix the buggs.
awaiting for the stable version.

Nice work first ICS rom without pointer... that was such a relief.... Keep up the good work
Dear Mr. Developer

* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM

*/
PHONES CAN BE LIFE SAVERS. THIS DEVICE IS NOT SUITABLE AS YOUR ONLY MEANS OF COMMUNICATION AND HAS NOT BEEN TESTED TO SUPPORT EMERGENCY CALLS. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANOTHER PHONE WITH YOU!!!
CyanogenMod/CWM is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed.
This is a rom for Wiko Stairway. Do not install on any other device than the Wiko Stairway - I have not tested it on other clones (e.g. the Canvas4 210). If you do it anyway and it works, please report here.
What works:
- SIM1 for phone calls (incoming/outgoing) and SMS, data (2g, 3g)
- SIM2 is a WIP
- Audio (microphone - now also outside phone calls, loudspeaker, headphones, OK google)
- Sensors
- Wifi (not wifi direct)
- GPS (no A-GPS yet nor EPO assist files, so the fix can take a bit)
- hw composer
- camera for taking pictures (not video)
- wifi and usb tethering
- battery usage stats (expect the usage for Display to be very unprecise)
- bluetooth
- candy crush, facebook and twitter
What doesn't work, known bugs:
- 2nd sim card 3G switch
- Dual SIM is a WIP, not has some bugs (data connection instability, etc.)
- camera for "movies" does not work
- (hw) video en/decoding not enabled
- FM radio not available
- A-GPS does not work, GPS works though but slowish
- rest of MTK specifics (what?)
- ... you tell me
Credits: many thanks go to the omnirom project as they have done lots for mt6589 already (https://gerrit.omnirom.org/#/q/topic:mt6589,n,z). Esp to xplodwild and drshadow, pawitp, dhacker29, arcee.
Installation guide:
- Install new CWM linked in this thread (for installation see in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440304) - if you don't have it yet, make sure you backup recovery.img
- Make a backup with CWM - you will want to go back to stock, don't blame me if you don't have a backup!!!
- copy the cm_stairway-otaXYZ.zip to the phone and flash the zip with CWM
- copy the gapps to phone and install the zip (see: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps - this is CM11)
- Wipe

Actually, you can but you will get bootloop
So you need a custom kernel with patch for binder.
Hint: the kernel source is available in the op.

Is kernel source updated with android binder patch ?
Great work sir. Will try the same porting method on this. I have already patched binder.c
Thanks a lot
EDIT:
Is it possible port the recovery? Or I would have to compile it from cm source?

You need kernel with SELinux for recovery (or a compatible recovery which doesn't need SELinux in kernel if it exists)
Woah, Way to go dude
Good luck with bug fixing.

I Think TWRP v2.6.x Has SELinux Support
Bug in CWM backup
The backup did not work with CWM and filled the disk by backing up boot forever. Please remove the backup folder that it created and update to the 0.2 version.

The other CWM for the stairway did not work. I got SELINUX errors with set_metadata_recursive and I had to compile kernel with
CONFIG_EXT4_FS_POSIX_ACL=y
CONFIG_EXT4_FS_SECURITY=y
Use the 0.2 recovery from the OP. That's supposed to work.

SELinux is a kernel feature so if you repack a recovery with a non SELinux kernel capable. You get what's happening here ^-^
MTK6589 - what about other mtk devices? Lenovo A820, A830, GoClever etc all of them is on different kernels, incompatible which each other. I assume I need to repack with kernel from my device (Lenovo A820) - both recovery and rom?
Anyway, good luck, I hope we will finally get full working CM on Mediatek some day.

- Audio (mic, loudspeaker, headphones)
- most sensors (auto brightness seems to be broken, but sensor works)
- Wifi (not wifi direct)
- candy crush, facebook and twitter
What doesn't work:
- everything else: 2nd sim card, camera, (hw) video decoding, GPS, BT, FM radio, hw composer, rest of MTK specifics.
Credits: many thanks go to the omnirom project as they have done lots for mt6589 already (https://gerrit.omnirom.org/#/q/topic:mt6589,n,z). Esp to xplodwild and drshadow...
- Wipe
Changelog:
- CWM backup function filled the disk and never stopped backing up boot. Make sure you upgrade to 0.2.

Known Issues (regarding latest available Stable build)
Please do not report bugs if it is already listen in the list of known issues
Rarely, when you wake-up the device, touchscreen will have a noticeable input lag, easily fixable by turning off and on the display. (H/W or S/W bug?)
Wireless Display with some TVs could cause issues (AOSP bug related to HDCP, and Google doesn't provide a solution)
Video Stream through Screencast & Wireless Display will have inverted Red and Blue color channels due to BGR Pixel Format (actual Exynos sources don't allow to fix it)
Any Chinese (CHN, I9500XCUxxx codename) Baseband/Modem reduces Call Quality (due to forced AMR_WB, unsupported by CHN modems)
5GHz Wi-Fi Networks using Band B (52-140) and Band C (149-161) channels won't be listed (H/W or S/W bug?)
Reporting Bugs
You are allowed to report bugs only in this thread. Before reporting a bug, please make sure you are running as stock as possible. This means no custom kernel, no custom framework modification, etc. If you are using any of the above modifications, please flash the rom again to get rid of the modifications before reporting.
REPORT BUGS IN THIS THREAD ONLY
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. The following is a useful format to follow. Note: If you can provide the latest night/build that the bug didn't exist, it would greatly help in tracking down what caused it.

Differences between GearCM (Optimized CyanogenMod) and Official CyanogenMod (NIGHTLY):
Degrated Shadow said:
Enough of those dumb questions..
The official CM rom is maintained by @Alberto96 and @intervigil
He makes the very recent changes here relating to performance.. which are then in time pushed to CM official rom. The kernel is different because it has selinux disabled and few minor tweaks you might not even notice.. this gearcm rom will have more performance. But CM rom will have their updated base changes which are included here with each update.
What I mean is you probably wont even notice what's different in terms of user interface.. gearcm will have more performance. Official cm will have updated sources. But it will include gearcm's changes in time as @Alberto96 pushes them to CM
You can decide by a simple choice. more performance and not-nightly updated sources or similar performance (improving with nightly updates) with updated sources. I would choose gearcm because of the reasons I mentioned above. Do what you will.. and let this be a note to everybody who ask this again and again and again. Don't spam the thread with same question in every alternate page.. Because there are other people who might have different problems they need to ask. Read atleast 15 previous pages and the first post changelog before asking the question. Reading most of the times will give you a solution and if not most of the info you will read will help you anyway.

FAQ (Frequently asked questions)
Where are "Performance" and "Developer Options" categories?
To activate 'Performance' and 'Developer Options' categories in Settings you need to tap 7 times on 'Build number' located into Settings -> About Phone.
How can i solve problems with Hebrew language?
Go to "Developer Options" in Settings and check "Force RTL layout direction".
What can i do to reduce the "echo effect" while in-call?
Try to reduce in-call earpiece volume (if possible).
I'm having problems with battery life, what can i do?
1) Use "Greenify" to hibernate all apps with a "little cloud + 'Gcm' word inside" on the right of each app's name. Donation version is recommended because it allows deeper hibernation of apps
2) Disable "Location" or set it to mode "Battery Saving" (Settings -> Location)
3) Make sure that your 2G/3G mobile network signal level isn't always low or unstable
4) Deny "Wake Up" and "Keep Awake" permissions to Google and third-party apps. (Settings -> Privacy -> Privacy Guard -> Press menu button and check "Show built-in apps" -> Press menu button again and go to Advanced -> Horizontal Scroll to Device)
5) Disable "Sync" or sync only useful stuff like Contacts
6) Disable "Auto-rotate screen" (Settings -> Display & lights -> Rotation)
7) Use one of the latest Modem/Baseband listed on first post.
8) Disable Ambient Display
9) Install Xposed Framework and configure Amplify
If this isn't enough then replace your battery and/or reduce your phone usage. :silly:
Is GearCM OTA supported?
Yes (Since 20150707 Build)
Why is my phone over-heating while playing heavy-games or running heavy-apps?
Use a bit your brain to explain why. High CPU and GPU usage = high heat production. Your phone will automatically throttle CPU when needed so don't worry, it is safe and normal.
Can I use another kernel instead of the one included in the zip?
No. Only use the included kernel for 100% compatibility, bug reports with non-standard kernel will be ignored.
Can i disable S-View cover features (lock/unlock)?
Not yet.
*** IR Remote app isn't working anymore/was working on previous builds/causes my phone to crash, what can i do?
Contact *** IR Remote app developer.
Any question about "Can't connect to camera" issue
Do not "stress" camera on CM because we don't use yet a proper implementation. Open/Close Camera apps carefully without force-closing them.
fix stock camera try flash this zip https://www.dropbox.com/s/z2a7hegwzu9ft2c/Fix_Camera_Cmmct_5.0.zip?dl=0
Been using lollipop as a daily driver with awesome results. But still there's something that bugs me. Although GPS works fine I find that its accuracy is pretty low.
For instance I run in order to keep fit. I use adidas miCoach which calculates your speed and distance covered giving as result km speed (from Argentina). GPS has a hard time keeping up with this and every time I train I revert to TW and then back to Lollipop.
Will test this GPS and see if its better than team Cajinica
does this rom have working bluetooth calls over car stereo?

Great. Downloading now[emoji1]
"App not installed" if manually install an apk.
Is there any workaround?
@Alberto96 haven't test it on GearCM 11. I'll try and report back asap
Can't install apks.
Although pushing apks to system works. Titanium backup in not able to restore as well.
Edit: I guess Titanium Backup does work. Not with the default superuser though. I flashed supersu to get it working in frapeti's rom, strange.

With GearCM 11 latest build GPS is pretty accurate. Used Waze while driving and miCoach while walking and had good results.
Further testing done with the build posted (20141216) I can't access SD card to install apks that are not from playstore for example BBS, and getting the low memory message even if full wiped and fresh installed.
Can't install APK in this Build ...
Storage Issues
@Alberto96 Hey man there seems to be an issue with your Kernel please take a look at the changes u made as they seem to be the cause of peope not being able to install any APKS and Install from playstore as its complaining about the storage being low so what i did is compile with CM kernel and tested it and the GearCm works fine without any storage issues but if I compile it using ur GearCm Kernel thats where theres storage issues. Please take a look at it
Thanks for your time and dedication of this Alberto. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time with your CM12 Releases
With CM12-20141212v2 (I did a clear wipe) and no RIL Service. So I was not able to use it basically...
Today I gave it a second try CM12-20141216 . I was happy to see my 3G Connection. But when I started to download the app from Play Store. It was impossible. All APKS giving an error.
I will test Canjica Version. It's a pity but I will have to wait till we get to a stable version of Android 5.0.1 with GearCM12.
Despite of that, Thanks for your work on this! We wouldn't have this if it wasn't because of you
Heads Up
Brilliant to have 5.0 on our phones, look and feel is really cool.
Confirmed Working:
Calls, SMS, Internet (WIFI & 3G), Camera, Gallery
FC's:
Music, File manager, Play store (all google apps) & anything else which is on the SD card
Keep it up guys:good:
Application not installed?
thanks for update 12\21 @Alberto96 ...but issue with installing apk is here.
New build is coming with some fixed, especially performance related.
New build is up!
Enjoy

wiko stairway kitkat 4.4.4 mt6589 - stock

DISCLAIMERS:
As usual: I am not responsible for bricks. Make sure you make a proper backup first including the NVRAM and IEME numbers with tools like mtk droid.
PHONES ARE LIVE-SAVERS. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANOTHER PHONE WITH YOU (WITH BETTER GPS AND PHONE SUPPORT) WHEN YOU GO FOR A 5 DAYS "SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK - High Sierra Trail" HIKE. NO JOKE!
DON'T LEAVE THE PHONE UNATTENDED AND FOR SEVERAL DAYS ON CHARGER. SOME WIKO MODIFICATIONS HAVE NOT (YET) BEEN PORTED.
FRENCH: NE PAS UTILISER COMME SEUL TELEPHONE DISPONIBLE QUAND VOUS ETES SEUL (PAR EXAMPLE EN RANDONDEE). NE PAS LAISSER SANS SURVEILLANCE SURE LE CHARGEUR.
Hey,
after some think-time, the wiko stairway is back with a full mtk rom on kitkat. This is stock mtk distribution and not CyanogenMod. So some nice features are of course not there.
I've not tested this on wiko stairway clones like the Canvas 4 - A210.
What is working:
- Camera (front, back, video encoding). Note: some flash light post-processing is disabled though
- FM radio
- GPS
- Wifi
- BT. Note: for whom does bt ever work *sigh*. Music playback seems to stutter...
- Sensors. Note: usage of old magnetometer demon bmm050d fixes the issue.
- HW video decoding.
- Phone: SIM1/SIM2, HSPA+. Note: using the old modem firmware. The new one seems to give worse signal quality, but it also doesn't seem to cause any troubles.
- Charger. Note: Some wiko modifications to the charger and batter have (not yet) been ported. It works, but be cautious and don't let it charge without being next to it.
- Cyanogenmod superuser
What is not working:
- See the "notes" above. But hey... It works fine, the above problems are "minor" issues.
Credits: cyanogenmod incl. koush for the superuser code and other things.
Installation:
Fastboot flash the recovery from the below download section: Put the phone in recovery mode: Hold Vol Up/Down and start phone. Select "fastboot". Flash with fastboot: fastboot flash recovery wiko-stairway-cwm-recovery.img.
Use adb sideload to install the main zip: boot into recovery with "Hold Vol UP/Down and start phone". Select "recovery". Chose install with sideload. Flash with "adb sideload wiko-stairway-kk444-CH-0.8.5zip"
Grab some kitkat gapps: Same as above but do "adb sideload gapps-kk.zip" or whatever your gapps zip is called.
Enjoy.

Flashed it on my device, MyPhone Agua Vortex (Micromax Canvas 4 A210) and all is running great. Thank you @chrmhoffmann. Hey, can I post this on MMX C4 Forum?
Hello Chris,
Nice to see a rom with camera working and fm radio as well. I would wish a help from you in solving the camera problems with roms from GamerBoy and Shiv.Gudadmath for canvas4. The problem with inconsistency with sim reception is still around otherwise its buttery smooth.
I ran into problems with rooting and any tip would be appreciated.

That's odd, my signal is always good, barely get 2 or 3 bars, always 4 to full bars.
@chrmhoffmann, is the storage swapped? On Titanium Backup it says, SD Card: 4 GB and Ext SD Card: 10 GB.
Edit 1: I think this is how kitkat works. Lol, nevermind this.
I am also struggling to gain root access as @kannanrs reported earlier.
Edit 2: I have workaround on how to gain root access. I am not sure if this will work for you but it did for me.
1. Download KingoRoot.
http://www.kingoapp.com/android-root/download.htm
2. Root Phone. Strangely, it will fail but if you have a Root Checker app, it says it's rooted.
3. Download SuperSU-Me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=darkslide.com.supersume&hl=en
4. Open SuperSU-Me and it will automatically remove KingUser and friends and install SuperSU.
Edit 3: After a reboot, my root's gone. Also, there's no reboot on power menu.
Edit 4: It is swapped.
Edit 5: Can't get root access, tried TowelRoot, KingRoot, KingoRoot, Framaroot, Genius Root. None of them worked.

Nothing. It still can't be rooted. Let's just wait for it to be pre-rooted.
You can do "adb root" which starts adb in root. "adb shell" then drops you in a root shell.
Then you can change settings.
Will see if I can find a working root.

KingRoot-runs), but there are small bugs, play market stopped working, the browser does not download ...
My device A210, take care of the browser module fault XinternalSD), just does not work Auto-rotate screen, and normally works, root runs
Browser downloads here and auto rotation also works.
Did you install 0.1 or 0.2? Did you wipe if you upgraded from 0.1 to 0.2?

Lenovo A5000 (Recovery, Root, ROMs, etc.) [REFERENCE/ARCHIVE]

THIS THREAD IS A REVAMP AND ARCHIVE OF THE All about Lenovo A5000 [Root,Recovery,Roms,....etc] THREAD FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES. THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES OF UPDATES.
WELCOME!
IMPORTANT: DISCLAIMER: Some actions will void your warranty so read fully before beginning the tutorials. The author take no responsibility for the outcome of your computer nor phone for following any instructions in this post.
Feel free to ask a question IF you can't find your answer in this post.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BACKUP
FIRST, you're going to need to BACKUP your device FULLY - no ifs, no buts, because it saves everyone the headache.
Tutorials here, there, and everywhere for that. https://pinoyscreencast.net/others/get-stock-rom-romdump-mediatek-mt6582-via-mtk-droid-root-tools/
Or just Google or YouTube "backup rom mt6582". Try not to go the method that asks you to remove your battery because: 1) that's usually not for phones like A5000, 2) there are other methods available. Get familiar with the process and comfortable with it. Note all the common things across the tutorials.
You have to flash a recovery (e.g. TWRP), then root, then you can do whatever you want.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RECOVERY
Instructions For Installing Recovery via SP Flash Tool
This tutorial assumes you are on KitKat (KK) 4.4.2. If you are on Lollipop (LP) then follow the tutorial How To Rollback To KitKat.
Download SP Flash Tool (video tutorial on that page on how to install the driver too, which is a must).
Download TWRP v3.0.0.0 (A5000_TWRP_3.0.0.0.zip) from the link below and extract it (to A5000_TWRP_3.0.0.0). Now you can start.
IMPORTANT: You might lose your IMEI (both of them), your BT (Bluetooth) Address, your WLAN (Wi-Fi) Address, and your Serial No. (SN), so please note all of them down. You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.
Do not connect your phone to the computer until you are told to do so and please don't start this tutorial with low battery
Download SP Flash Tool for Windows or Linux (I have not tried the Linux version yet so I don't know how much different the Linux version will be)
Extract SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628_Win.zip (to SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628_Win)
In that folder open SP Flash Tool (flash_tool.exe - preferably right-click [Run as administrator])
On the Download tab, click [Scatter-loading] to load the scatter file (MT6582_Android_scatter.txt) which is located in A5000_TWRP_3.0.0.0
"Wait" for checksum to complete (about half a second...)
Under that make sure [Download Only] is selected from the drop-down menu and not [Format All + Download] nor [Firmware Upgrade]
Make sure your phone is turned off
Make sure Recovery is the ONLY THING TICKED
Click the [Download] button (big green arrow button at the top)
FROM HERE ON FORTH YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID (that is if you don't ever roll back to your stock backup that you made)
Without turning your phone on, connect it to the computer
It will start flashing the Recovery tool to your phone and when it is done a check mark will appear, click OK
Disconnect the phone from the computer. Done.

Instructions For Installing Root
For a simple method, you can use KingRoot, however this may not work for everyone and flashing SuperSU is recommended instead.
On the TWRP menu, tap [Install] and then select your root tool (e.g. recovery flashable SuperSU linked below) file that you transferred to your memory card (recommended), internal storage, or USB OTG, and install it
When it's done, Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache, NOTHING ELSE
Tap Reboot System and you're done.
NOTE: Your phone will stay on the Lenovo logo for 10-15 minutes on your FIRST boot up, so don't panic.

TUTORIALS
How To Rollback To KitKat From Lollipop
IMPORTANT: You might lose your IMEI (both of them), your BT (Bluetooth) Address, your WLAN (Wi-Fi) Address, and your Serial No. (SN), so please note all of them down. You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.
On the Download tab, click [Scatter-loading] to load the scatter file (MT6582_Android_scatter.txt) which it located in the folder of wherever you extracted your custom ROM to
"Wait" for checksum to complete (about half a second...)
Under that make sure [Firmware Upgrade] is selected from the drop-down menu and NOT [Download Only] nor [Format All + Download]
Make sure your phone is turned off
Make sure EVERYTHING IS TICKED
Click the [Download] button (big green arrow button at the top)
FROM HERE ON FORTH YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID (that is if you rolled back to someone else's dump of KK 4.4.2 and not your original backup of KK 4.4.2 that you made, IF you made one)
Without turning your phone on, connect it to the computer
It will start flashing the firmware to your phone and when it is done a check mark will appear, click OK
Disconnect the phone from the computer and boot up to check if it worked
How To Flash A Zip Or Img File via Recovery (e.g. ROM, G-Apps, Patch, Kernel, etc.)
IMPORTANT: You must be on kernel 3.4.67 to flash 3.4.67 kernel based ROMs, or on kernel 3.10.54 to flash 3.10.54 kernel based ROMs.
IMPORTANT: You might lose your IMEIs, your BT (Bluetooth) Address, your WLAN (Wi-Fi) Address, and your Serial No. (SN), so please note all of them down. You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.
Backup your entire ROM
If flashing a ROM, wipe the standard (Data, Cache, and Dalvik Cache in the [Wipe] menu (you WILL lose your Data (apps & stuff) so you BETTER have backed that up too)
On the TWRP menu, tap [Install] and then select your .zip or .img file that you transferred to your memory card (recommended), internal storage, or USB drive via OTG, and install it
When it's done, Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache ONLY, then tap Reboot
Order of flashing queue: ROM > G-Apps > Patches
NOTE: Your phone will stay on the Lenovo logo for 5, 10, or even 15 minutes on your FIRST boot up, so don't panic.
How To Restore IMEI
Download MTK Droid Tools v2.5.3
When opening, make sure you extract it to a new folder, else you will have clutter everywhere
Connect phone, click ROOT (necessary) in bottom right, click Yes, and on the phone grant the permission
Now you can click "IMEI/NVRAM" button and enter them, click "Replace IMEI", when done click OK, click Reboot, and click Normal
Afterwards, reboot into recovery and backup NVRAM - this contains your IMEI
NOTE: If you could not click the "IMEI/NVRAM" button, root the phone first then retry the tutorial
How To Boot Into Recovery
Whilst the phone is turned off/first time after flashing recovery:
The method is actually a bit temperamental: Simultaneously press & hold both volume buttons and then press & hold the power button also (so you're now holding 3 buttons) and hold them until it vibrates AND the Lenovo logo comes onto the screen, then only let go of the power button; once you see the TWRP logo you can let go of the volume buttons
The first screen will ask you if you to confirm that you want to modify with your phone, swipe to confirm... this will not allow the phone to restore the original Lenovo Recovery
Now you're ready to flash Root tools, custom ROMs, patches, etc. that you downloaded
Whilst the phone is turned on:
Open the power menu
Tap Reboot, then immediately hold Vol+ & Vol- buttons and don't let go till it reboots and takes you to recovery menu

FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS
I flashed ... ROM and now it's not booting past the Lenovo logo, what do I do?
There's a thing called the kernel which talks with the phone's hardware. The Lenovo A5000 has two kernel versions 3.4.67 and 3.10.54. ROMs made for a certain kernel will not work on other kernel version. You either have to upgrade to Lollipop (3.10.54) or downgrade to KitKat (3.4.67).
I'm trying to flash this ... ROM but I'm getting "Error 7", what do I do?
DON'T wipe everything before flashing a custom ROM. Just do a normal factory reset i.e. clear Data, Dalvik Cache, and Cache.
Should the [email protected] kernel be flashed again after flashing a custom ROM?
If you downgraded to stock KitKat (S030) and are experiencing touch lag, then go ahead and flash it.
The kernel is already embedded in the custom ROMs shared here (exept for AICP 11), so why should you flash it again?
Some bugs like the camera bug embed itself into the Cache and a quick reflash of the kernel via recovery can temporarily fix the problem.
Can the modified boot.img of other ROMs be used for porting other ROMs?
The answer is mostly yes. Some AOSP ROMs (e.g. Validus) may have different ramdisk files, so you may get a bootloop. If you're trying to port a Cyanogen based ROM (e.g. Cyanogen..., Resurrection Remix, Temasek, etc.) you won't be getting this problem.
Which ROM and which version of it is the best?
A very subjective question so I can't answer it completely. Most users here use RR 5.7.4 or 5.5.9, CM 13 or 12.1, MiUI 8 or MiUI 7, etc. You'll have to try and choose for yourself.
Anyone working on Android 7?
Eek sounds like work. There's already an Nougat build for our device with kernel v3.10.54.
RIL is unstable and so is video decoding so wait for a stable build.
I flashed this ... ROM and now I'm getting boot animation in loop?
Use TWRP 3.x.x.x. Stay away from other TWRP versions like 2.8.x.x, 2.8.5.x, etc.
Is OTG working?
Our device started getting OTG from the S029 update onwards officially.
OTG is accessible via ES File Explorer in custom ROMS as well.

Performance wise the best I've used. Choose Nova Launcher on bootup it supports CyanogenMod Theme Engine (CMTE). This is the only ROM here that supports Cyanogen Theme Engine but has AOSP RAM management. Also has decent amount of customisation including headers.

2) No stock file explorer, so you have to download one from Google Play to get you started

FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS (CONTINUED)
I read the thread and still have problems with my IMEI/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth?
Please check that the IMEI number of your phone matches the one on its original box, if it doesn't then you can fix that by following the tutorial above. Remember: backup first, always. As for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, please include the first 6 characters of, both, your Wi-Fi Address (XX:XX:XX) and Bluetooth Address (XX:XX:XX), you may need to flash a patch/different ROM, or ask someone for help in the original thread (linked in the first line of this thread). Thank You.
ABC, XYZ, 123! Help?!
If you still cannot find the solution to your problem, then please try what you should have at the beginning - in the original thread (linked in the first line of this thread) use the search box that is on the RIGHT side of the screen. The answer to your question is in the first answer of the FAQs section. Please read the post as it states at the very beginning.
Marshmallow ROMs (nearly all) are based on kernel 3.4.67. Flash kernel 3.4.67 ROMs over kernel 3.4.67 ROMs and flash kernel 3.10.54 ROMs over kernel 3.10.54 ROMs.
99% you will have to downgrade to a KItKat ROM first (e.g stock S030) because KitKat ROMs are based on kernel 3.4.67, or you will get a brick (boot loop). If you don't downgrade you have a 1% chance of success, but do as you wish. No one here is liable.
Also, all tutorials to do everything needed are in the first post under the Tutorials section. Please read, thank you.

Understood, but this requires backing up Data everytime and also wiping the System partition is generally not recommended because ROMs are built differently and could cause a boot loop.
Long story short,my class got supended for the week cuz a friend broke another's head because of trolling in Facebook and whatsapp. So new roms ......maybe

News to me.how did you get the 3.4 kernel to work over 3.10 version? Maybe some misunderstanding? So you were in stock lollipop with 3.10.54 kernel and you flashed roms with 3.4.67 kernel and booted successfully?
P.S I'm aware you can flash over different Android versions and I've done it many times for testing bugs
But never over different kernel version.
@7awliet I forgot to add andreidi in credits.my bad but he came pretty late:angel:

One Time It got me A Bootloop is on Marshmallow/Nougat Roms built in 3.10.103 kernel...but it got fix when I installed the V3.0.3 of TWRP....But I still recommend to install stock firmware before flashing any 3.4.67 built ROM because sometimes it may cause bootloops and swipe lags.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.Backup your entire ROM
Whilst the phone is turned off/first time after flashing recovery:The method is actually a bit temperamental: Simultaneously press & hold both volume buttons and then press & hold the power button also (so you're now holding 3 buttons) and hold them until it vibrates AND the Lenovo logo comes onto the screen, then only let go of the power button; once you see the TWRP logo you can let go of the volume buttons

Use TWRP 3.x.x.x or TWRP 2.8.7.0. Stay away from other TWRP versions like 2.8.1.x, 2.8.5.x, etc.
Is OTG working?
Our device started getting OTG from the S029 update onwards officially.
OTG is accessible via ES File Explorer in custom ROMS as well.
