MAXELL H10S changing ROM - General Questions and Answers

I have a MAXELL H10S tablet, and it does not have Google Play (it has some custom store app). I tried to install Google Play, but it doesn't work, it keeps crashing whenever I try to run it. Also YouTube app didn't have sound at all. This YouTube problem was fixes with firmware update.
I successfully updated firmware, and now I'm thinking is there a way of putting some other ROM? Any idea what ROM would work on this tablet?
The firmware upgrade was done by putting this 4 files in SDcard root:
1) factory_update_param.aml
2) uImage_recovery.img
3) patch.zip
4) update.zip
and then turning off tablet, then turning it on with home button pressed, and it automatically did everything.
Here is the content of file factory_update_param.aml:
--update_package=/sdcard/update.zip
--update_patch=/sdcard/patch.zip
--wipe_data
--wipe_cache
--wipe_media
Can I put some other update.zip and/or patch.zip and change ROM?

[TUT] HipStreet Aurora google play working without flash for nublets

This is a guide on how to get the google play store working on HS aurora devices. I'm not sure if this will work on other HS devices but I see no harm in trying.
Files you will need :
1- Link2sd app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2028075&stc=1&d=1370743601
2- Latest google play store
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2028077&stc=1&d=1370743601
3- Latest google play services
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2028078&stc=1&d=1370743601
Copy apks to your android device via usb, external sd or wifi file manager (even bluetooth if your HS device suports it)
Install them but do not open them.
Open up link2sd, with this app you should see all installed apps on the tablet.
Navigate to the google play services and click on it. In the sub menu click on the [actions] button and select [convert to system app] (if this option is "grayed out" then probably your tablet isn't pre rooted and you may have to flash recovery/firmware)
Repeat this process for the google play store app.
Reboot the tablet.
Cheers! Google play store should work
*With link2sd you can "kind of" create your own custom firmware uninstalling unwanted system apps and install your own system apps (internet browser, app launcher, app store...) You can even do this after a "fresh install" (master reset) and then make a recovery image and save to sd card so you wont have to repeat the entire process if anything hapened. The recovery can be accessed by holding the vol down button while powering up the device. You will need a usb keyboard to navigate in the recovery
I want to personally thank for you these brief and clear instructions! I just picked up a discarded Hipstreet tablet, and was totally frustrated with its limited potential *and* lack of good instructions in the community on how to make it better (i.e. by installing Google Play), and decided to try your approach before totally giving up -- and it worked great!

[Q] (Google Play Store) Error retrieving information from server [RPC:S-7 :AEC-7]

Greetings,
I had some issues uninstalling xposed on my HTC One M8 that was recently updated to lollipop so I reverted back to a stock lollipop rom directly from Telus. Every time I try and download an app from the Play Store I get the following message.
"nameofapp" could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-7 :AEC-7])
This is what I have tried so far:
- Clear cache on Google Play Services (Framework) and Google Play Store
- removed update from Google Play Store
- updated Play Store manually to newest APK
- rebooted in between these steps
- removed Google Account + cleared cache + all data for all Google Apps and services
Sometimes when I reboot it will let me update or download 1-3 apps, then it will just bring back that error. I'm at a loss as to what I should try as googling this error brings up the same solutions every single time. Other then this issue the phone itself appears to be functioning properly. My phone is unlocked and rooted but I do not have xposed or any other custom mods running. I'm also using the latest version of TWRP. I have also noticed that sometimes when I disconnect from wifi and attempt to download from 4G the download actually goes through. Not exactly a solution as I have limited data available to me. Any ideas?

Flash GApps via TWRP. If it doesn't help, bring your phone back to full stock, including flashing firmware + rom and make sure to format systen + data partition
before flashing the new rom.

Thanks for the help. I tried to flash the google apps but TWRP kept giving me errors that the package wasn't compatible with my phone. I located a nandroid of Telus lollipop stock and flashed that after I have formatted the system and data partitions as you have recommended. I dont believe I needed to do firmware as I have never had anything but stock firmware on the device. Everything appears to be functioning now as I can download and update from the play store once again.
Out of curiosity are you able to tell me why I encountered that issue? I cant seem to find exactly what that error even means. While i'm still very new to the android scene with flashing custom roms and device modification I have never once had that issue.
that is a "host" error, using a file manager, go to your /system/etc folder, open the "hosts" file, as a text file, and erase all.. except the local host:
Sorry bad english

Fix error 963 on PlayStore!

(Skip the intro if you just want the solution)
Hello everyone!
So recently I flashed a CM ROM on my note 3 and flashed the new GApps
Everything was working just fine, but PlayStore had an issue with the SD card, so every time you try to download an app that is over 10mb it will show you an error 963 and it won't be installed unless if you remove your SD card.
I tried and tried searching for a way to fix it on the internet but didn't find any, so i decided to fix it by myself.
So what I did was to flash another ROM which had a working PlayStore and take it and place it there, that did work but then I had another issue which was PlayStore stops whenever you want to search for something.
But I got it all fixed! here's how. THIS IS FOR LOLLIPOP ONLY!!

1- So first of all, download the file called (GooglePlayStore.apk)
2- Replace your PlayStore with the one you just downloaded, it should be inside privApps -> and then in a folder named Phonesky then reboot your device.
3- Clear cashe and open up your new PlayStore, if it works fine and you can search then leave it like so, if it works fine and you can download but it crashes when you search (like mine) then follow the other steps. ( 4, 5, 6)
4- Download this PlayStore ( com.android.vending_v6.1.12-80441200_Android-2.3.apk )
5- install it as an update, don't replace it.
5- go back to system then apps and uninstall updates ( it should go back to the older version, the one you downloaded)
6- open up PlayStore and enjoy it!
PS: this might work on other devices having this issue.
Another PS: sorry if I posted it in the wrong place.
Another PS lol: Hit thanks if it helps you

Honor 6 H60L02 - Restarting When Trying to Install Any App

I have sucessfully installed the latest versions of Google Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Framework Services, Google Account Manager... Everything needed for the Play Store, as far as I know. I was able to open the Play Store and log into my account. Everything shows to be working well, but everytime I try to install any app or update the phone restarts itself without installing anything. This includes attempts to sideload an APK. Here's the thing, when I uninstall only the Google Play Store, then I have no problem sideloading other APKs. When I reinstall Google Play Store the problem immediately returns. Anytime I try to install or update any app the phone restarts itself. Any ideas? Is there some kind of conflict with "app installers"?
You should once flash the full stock ROM package to get a full Stock System, to do that follow the below steps:
Download your phone's latest firmware.
After doing this put the UPDATE.APP in dload folder of your external SDCARD.
Switch off your phone, and press Vol UP + Vol DOWN + Power button simultaneously.
Your device will now get to the full stock firmware.
is your sdcard set as default storage? if yes change it back to internal. also from settings > apps, cick menu, show system. goto google play services, storage, manage space, clear all data. again, disable anroid device manager from settings > security > device administrators. if none of these work, google is your friend, or just reinstall your stock OS

Downloading .apk files

First a word of thanks to all who have assisted. I have managed to to flash TWRP (latest 3.2 version and TWRP app); install KitKass 7.2.1 and gapps pico. The dock keyboard and a USB mouse work. :highfive:
The setup file would not run; kept shutting down. I restored the system from a nandroid to get around this issue.
I set up & configured my network connection and Kat Browser . All seems good.
1. As best a I can determine downloading .apk files does not work. The .apk website: APK4Fun web site displays a downloading XYZ.apk message. I do not see a download progress bar. Probably not looking in the right spot.
2. After what seems like a reasonable interval (5-10 minutes) checking Internal Storage Download and SD Card Download folders shows no content. Download location set to: /storage/emulate/0/Download. Does this correspond to the internal storage download file? Stumped once again.
3. Should I install Play store? How?
