The Purpose of XDA Assist [Please Read] - XDA Assist

***XDA Assist has changed***
Welcome to the new Version of XDA Assist.
The mission of XDA Assist is to provide basic help to those who have tried searching but cannot find what they are looking for and need assistance . Perhaps you cannot find posts on how to root your phone, install custom recovery or maybe you have questions about how to navigate and use features on the site.
Our XDA Assist team is ready to help out users as best as they can , by providing some basic help , as well as guiding New Users to the correct areas in XDA.
You may be pointed towards guides and instructions that can be quite complex, so you will still need to read carefully and be cautious before attempting to make software changes to your device. It is essential you are in the correct forum for your device model; what works for one can ruin another.
________
How to use this forum:
1. If you ask a question, please create a new thread and post your question with as many details as you can (device type, model, running custom or official rom etc).
This can be done anonymously , but we do encourage you to create an account , in order to be able to pursue your quest in the main XDA fora , and to be able to post there.
2. Our team will then help you and/or point you to the right direction. We'll work to help you as quickly as possible, but please be patient in case an answer isn't given quickly.
3. Once a satisfactory answer is given, our team will mark the thread as "Solved".
4. All questions must be asked in English.
5. Please be courteous towards everyone. We don't make any assumptions about your level of knowledge in this forum, so feel free to ask questions that may seem very basic.
________
We have a dedicated Team of trained Assistants who are easily recognized by their blue "ASSIST" badge :

[Completed] [Q] Root was successful on LG L40 but can't move app2sd card!

Hi XDA staff, I need some assistance here..
I have root my first android phone, LG L40 and it did sucess..
This is the instruction:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732311
This time, when I want to move whatsapp that is on Internal Storage with link2sd app, it says like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
However the one that I pointed out makes me confused is on step 9 on the link that I have given..
It says that I can now plug in my sdcard, yet there is no instruction to unplug it..
My intuition was the step above that makes it error. I should've unplug it then plug it later.
Now, I am trying to re-format my sdcard with magic partition wizard.
Hope it works.
Sorry for my bad english
Hi there,
Seems to be a particular problem of the application so you have to ask one of the dedicated threads.
Please read the bellow threads and see if you find some answers, and if NOT, then open a new thread in general forum for questions:

Bump! - Sign (unlock) your own boot images for LG G2 and more!

"lightbox_share": "Share",

}
What is this?
This is Bump! A new and easy way to sign boot images for most modern LG phones so they'll boot on any locked phone.
Bump an image once, and flash it to however many phones you please.
How does this work?
Simply create an account on the site, click "Bump!", upload the boot/recovery images (also known incorrectly as 'kernels') and the service will automatically Bump them for you.
Is this project open source?
No, this project is not open source. We are however an "open" project, as we are all for transparency and user discussion. With that in mind, we'll be participating in user discussions and providing bugfixes and changelogs when possible.
Who made this?
Team Codefire, of course!
Bump would not be possible without the help and support of many people.
Please consider donating something to the people listed below to help them to continue to support your LG phone and to show your appreciation of all the hours they've put into this awesome unlock!
@thecubed - CLICK HERE to Donate - Project manager. Main hand in everything along the way.. from reversing the boot stack to website completion.
@IllegalArgument - CLICK HERE to Donate - Special thanks here, IllegalArgument really helped out and brought us across the finish line here. It's safe to say that we have the unlock today because of him - show him some love!
@autoprime - CLICK HERE to Donate - That'd be weird if I wrote something nice about myself here... :silly:
@Shelnutt2 - CLICK HERE to Donate - This guy nearly single-handedly wrote the entire Bump site in a few days. Lots of reversing work, super smart - another awesome member of the team!
@AnimatronicRocketReptile - CLICK HERE to Donate - Crypto help, thanks!
I'm just a user, do I need this?
Most likely not. If you're just flashing ROMs, this is a tool for developers only. There is no need to Bump ROMs yourself if you're not editing anything in the kernel, recovery, or ramdisk.
How do I know if something is Bump'd?
Look for the word "signed" or "bumped" in the filename. We will create a new section of the site soon that allows you to verify that a file is bumped soon enough.
Okay, I'm a developer, and I want this now!
Great! Go here and register, and Bump away!

Hi everyone,
I wrote a small app for all those having RAM/reloading issues on 5.0/CM12 based ROMs. The source is here and a direct link to the pre-compiled app can be found here or attached to this post.
But what does this app do?
In short, the cause of frequent app redraws seems to be wrongly set permissions of two files which avoid the Low Memory Killer to work as intended. Apart from that the default values in those files are set too high. A long explanation can be found here.
This app fixes both problems and automates basically everything after the device has booted up: It applies right permissions to /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree (660) and writes reasonable LMK values into it. It is meant as a convenient way to fix the problem without having to hassle around with shell scripts.
I wrote it modular, so auto apply and LMK value writing can be switched off, of course

I installed the 07/Feb/2015 Nightly (cm-12-20150207-NIGHTLY-peregrine.zip) to my moto g lte (XT1039) and the permissions are still the weird 0220 on both files (minfree, adj).

What is it?
This is an awesome program that allows android developers/users to create THEIR OWN ROMS!! Easily and quickly . This revolutionizes the way people will create their own ROMs, and this is only the beginning...
What does it do?
Well, it can create a ROM for ANY ANDROID PHONE!!! It takes about 5-10 minutes for it to completely create the ROM basics. It usually can take less than 5 minutes. You have a wide selection of pre-downloaded apps that you can select to be pre-installed onto your phone.
Do I need anything?
Yes, you will need the stock ROM for you android phone. Here's an example: (Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Deodexed T-Mobile). It has to be in .zip format and inside you should see META, system, boot.img .etc.. You will need to merge the files ARB created with your ROM then re-zip them together and flash that to your phone.
Could I run into errors?
Yes, definitely yes. Not with the program but merging the files and flashing. The program is a first release and will have updates in a week or so. Please look on YouTube how to use the program and fix errors it created in the ROM if that is the case. I recomend using TWRP to flash the files, and remember that you will need to wipe your phone so back it up!!
Info
I am @silentwind827 and I created my first program containing over 1000+ lines of code. Thank you @renouri (Twitter) for motivating me and enlightening me when the code didn't work and we found the fix. You're the best! Feel free to follow me on twitter!!!! @silentwind827
Updates

Hey can you please explain in layman's terms what DTB is and why I might need it (or not).
The context is I'm flashing Bit-iO kernel for the first time onto stock v5.1.1 and the instructions are:
1. Factory reset/wipe and flash.
2. Flash DTB if needed
3. Yada yada ...
Thanks!
Also, seperate question:
Undervolting does nothing or so close to nothing that it's pointless - is this correct still as I'm surprised to see some kernels implementing it still. Is the Shield Tablet or Tegra 4 a case where undervolting as any appreciable benefit?
Cheers, good idea for a thread IMO.
Custom Roms with controller support?
Are there any? Will there ever be? It's there a separate area for the k1 or is it just lumped together with the older versions?
If there aren't any custom Roms with controller support, does anyone have suggestions for helping dial down my RAM and CPU usage? Because even with nothing running in the background, they are still seeming pretty high... Especially the RAM.
Is marshmallow 6.0.1 just a resource hog?
Thanks for the info in advance!
