[APP] How Tomi File Manager Designed - Android Apps and Games

Contribute to manage your own files on mobile device
After warm discussions to beta version, we released Tomi File Manager on Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomitools.filemanager
And invite you to join discussion here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759900
File management is a long-term topic, on PC stage and extends to mobile devices stage. Different from PCs, people have to consider what could do to save more space and manage files in neat.
We have some questions in mind:
1. Do people need to manage system files of Android OS?
2. Should people always find file in a long list or mussy folders?
So now we have Tomi File Manager, a simple and fast management solution to YOUR OWN files on mobile devices, by sorting music, pictures, videos, downloads, and installed applications into six intuitive categories, and making you feel no worry to where the physical file located.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So, what are the differences between Tomi File Manager and other same kind file manager applications?
1. Organize Users’ Own Files into Distinct Category
We sort users’ own Music, Pictures, Videos, Documents, Applications and Downloads into 6 major intuitive categories, and create this easy simple and high efficient way to file management.
2. Fast & Intuitive
We design an intuitive user interface to help users know which kind of files they can reach in each category, and let users know occupation rates of each kind of files to mobile storage.
Meanwhile, fast indexing is another key point we focus on. Saving time to file indexing is another good way to help users to reach the file they need.
3. Ignore mussy folders in file system of Android OS
Users of Tomi File Manager can easily manage their own files, without disturbance from mussy folders on storage.
The system files of Android OS can do nothing but enable users enjoy convenience brought by their smart phone/tablets. So we change the way of managing files, and enable users to manage their own files with intuitive methods.
For example, Download folder on mobile device can give us a distinct show.
Normally, downloaded files will be saved to the “Download” folder on storage, and users can get what they downloaded via a so-called download manager by mobile phone vendors, or an option called “Download” provided by file manager applications. But two things we should keep in mind: not every application follows this principle, and users also have their own idea to set download folder.
Tomi File Manager supports the default download folder, but we DO NOT think that is enough, since our aim is providing people an easy and simple way to manage their own files. So, we decide to enable users to manually add their own download folder for indexing, and make sure all files come to mobile device through the behavior of download must be easy-to-reach.
The Download portal on Tomi File Manager now is not a simple link to your download directory, but represents kind of behavior of downloading file to mobile device.
Another example is managing pictures on mobile device.
Sure people can browse pictures on mobile through build in gallery. But, not every gallery is user-friendly designed; and build-in gallery from different device vendors has its own weakness in managing pictures. Otherwise, currently file manager applications also have different shortcomings in efficiency.
Tomi File Manager offers an intuitive mark as “Pictures” in user interface, to give users a clear idea that all my own pictures are here. Otherwise, we index all picture files on storage and show them in timeline by shot date.
Work together to build your own file manager
We may have our own shortcoming to make Tomi File Manager perfect enough, and make it more useful to all users. So we start a weekly poll to features which users suggested.
We select some features in collections of feature suggestions from all users every week, and start a poll to top features we should support, both on forum and online community. We invite users to join our weekly development plan, and let users know what we will have in next release. The most valuable thing is bringing users and us joint together to build their own file manager application.

How about this, some apps require their files/content to be in specific folders for e.g whatsapp. If the media in not found at that locations it asks to re download that content.
Is their some special handling for such apps??

You can create and edit custom redirects, so you could blacklist the folders you don't want scanned (The Whatsapp folder) and whitelist the ones that you only want scanned - it is completely customizable!
Also, on a side note - the app does not go near the /Android directory unless it is explicitly whitelisted, so 95% of important app data isn't touched!
Brilliant.

Looks pretty good. I will give it a try. Thanks
Very cool since yesterday I hit 95% memory full and need to move things to storage card. Running my S4 stock until I determine which rom to use and most everything else I've used in past required root. I'll report back after running a few redirects.
Looks nice, is the apk attached the paid version or the free?
Hi guys. I made a guide on an awesome use case for this app. It shows you how to sync all the music on your phone to Google Play Music. If you want to check it out, I made a thread here.

v1.4.2 Tomi File Manager support to Manage EPUB books with Play Books
Download the latest Tomi File Manager Now:
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomitools.filemanager
On Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ovubciwjykogg3/Tomi_File_Manager.apk
Version: 1.4.2
Size: 2.68 MB
Support: Android 3.0 and above
Changes to v1.4.1
1. Upload epub book to Google Books
2. Some minor bug fixes
Well, we accepted suggestions from users on Google Play Store, and make the feature to manage epub books.
Normally, while you tap epub book, a popup window will notify you to choose proper method to proceed.
Tomi File Manager is not an epub reader, so we call some apps which can help users read epub book, like Google Play Books.
You can upload selected epub book to Play Books, and read it there. Or, you can select self preferred epub reader, like Kindle, to proceed.
Pls do believe in that we must do our best to make the best way to manage your own files, as well as advanced features to you the experienced/advanced users.
Requested feature
First off: thanks for a very usable and stable app!
Now for my request: I have a slight dislike for the very blue-ish start screen that Tomi uses. I would like the option to skip this screen all together and have Tomi open the Favorites screen or another configurable folder as the start point of the app instead.
To reason I dislike the start screen is that I use seperate programs to manage/interact with/view all my other/specific content (Ie. QuickPic for Images/Videos etc.). When I start Tomi I want to manage files and folders and don't need an overview of my files/folders/disk space usage. So the blue start/overview screen results in me having to do an extra click/slide, before I get to the file/folders I want. Giving me the option to skip this screen would result in a click/slide less everytime I start/use the app and thus a more streamlined experience (at least from my perspective .
I hope my request is clear enough...
With kind regards,

Got your idea.
some friends also suggested me this feature, since they are so familiar with directory manager, like the one in ES and File expert.
As to us, the Tomi FM, our concept is helping users to manage their own file in quick and simple taps. So we bring files like music/pics/videos/docs directly to users with clear category. To view/interact files by folders, we consider it is not a convenient way.
Well, I think we could do some changes/adjustment in product side, to satisfy needs like you.
Many thanks for your suggestion, and hope you can share me more valuable ideas to make Tomi FM in your own favor.
The following two features take top position, so we decide to make them alive in our next release.
1. Support Dropbox;
4. SMB support
The two features are suggested by:
@ceski23, @dancer_69, @GiRaFa-SAMA, @IcipherPT, @tokjan, @FRiGiDiTy, @nowforever, @znial
We have friends here to contribute:
@tokjan, @NBIVAN, @dav., @HTCore, @dancer_69, @FRiGiDiTy, @nowforever, @znial, @Antoder10, @ceski23, @GiRaFa-SAMA, @IcipherPT
My team and I are working on major update to Tomi File Manager, so the feature poll will be paused for a while, and restart after release the major update.
The features of supporting Dropbox and SMB would be released in next week, and feature of "Classify apps as Downloaded and Pre-installed" has been added to our plan to the major update. So there would only 2 features left for feature poll
Any good suggestions and feature request are welcomed.
Requested feature: FTP Server
It would be great when you can implement a FTP Server for this app to have access via computer to the files on the phone...

Why are releases in zip and not just apk format?
https://github.com/PowerExplorer/PowerFileExplorer/releases
Also,
For screenshots,
You can include them in readme or have a separate screenshpts.md file and link to that in readme; i.e. https://github.com/scoute-dich/browser/blob/master/SCREENSHOTS.md

Warning
---
Basic r/w operations might not work on external memory on Kitkat devices. Don't use cut/paste from or to external SD Card. You might lose your files.

For cut/paste or move why not implement basic security guard:
Copy files from a to b
check if files exist properly on b
if exists - delete files on a | else error message/toast/dialog
I don't know the reason why github doesn't accept me to upload that apk, but smaller texteditor.apk is ok. Therefore I have to zip it.
Ok, thanks, I will do the screenshots.
I've used many open sources to develop this app. For the cut, paste files, I've used and modified codes from Amaze File Manager. And I only test on 2 devices android 5 and 7. Therefore, the app only support from Android 5, but I copied pasted the warning from Amaze File Manager. So I've better remove that warning.
Actually, only after cut/paste successfully, the source is deleted. If they're in the same partition, only rename without copying. If b exist, there is a dialog to confirm overwrite or not.

Update version, recompile zpaq, download https://www.dropbox.com/s/vfhye23v549bz6y/PowerFileExplorer_1.0.13.apk?dl=0
Why is the apk hosted on dropbox & not as an asset in gh releases?
Furthermore the app could use a UI makeover/follow material guidelines. We're in 2019.
The idea is a bold one - a file browser with integrated previews for most popular file types, yet will not fully trust the app to test yet.
