I've been looking at cases being offered from amazon retailers and while I like the looks of them, I'm a little hesitant due to the talk of the effects of magnets on the spen. My first question is: Are the keyboard cases that have a leathery appearance made by Omoton, Moko, Khomo, Supernight, eWonder, Ivso, QQ-Tech, Photonic and Fome all essentially the same product with only slight cosmetic differences? If this is the case would I be correct in guessing that all of the manufactures that make this kind of case have the same problem with the spen? Or is there something I'm missing that sets some of these apart? I have noticed that some of them use slightly different keyboard designs.
I am asking this as my introductory post to this forum because to my knowledge, a comparison like this has not been done before here (I did look).
Hopefully once the URL restriction is lifted, if people wish I can add a list of the different items that I see a remarkable similarity to. For now, if people are wanting clarification on what exactly I'm talking about, look up "MoKo Bluetooth Keyboard Cover Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 inch GT - N5100 / N5110 Android Tablet, BLACK" as an example of what I'm talking about. Aside from color and texture differences, the others I'm asking about are largely the same.

Hey guys, I bought the keyboard dock for my tablet but I find it hard to browse the web and use the IM apps with all the small fonts and the angle of the tablet when docked. I either have to stay farther away from the tablet and then I'm having trouble seeing small stuff (or tapping it) or I have to get close to the tablet but tilt my head a lot in a way that is very uncomfortable.
Do you guys know of any case that has adjustable angles like this one here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/StilGut-Ult..._1_sc_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1333061202&sr=8-13-spell ?
What I actually need is a browsing and typing angle that is lower than the keyboard dock but not as low as the Samsung Book Cover's typing angle that it makes you hover over the tablet.
The one I linked to above looks promising (see 3rd pic), but the reviews don't say anything about this.
Thanks!
Pyro Skins do one that looks like that one but cheaper, about £18. Theyre based in the US but will deliver to the Uk, the 18 quid includes delivery
That's no good. I need it shipped to Romania, so it's gotta be from Amanzon UK 'cause Amazon US does not ship to Romania
Anyway, the price isn't my main concern. It's the fact that with these types of accessories you never know if they really suit your needs until you see them in front of you (or maybe a video review on youtube, lol, I just had a thought).
I've got this case, and while I kept it, I'm not 100% happy with it:
Good:
high quality
good protection
Bad:
personally don't like the leather texture
even if it says "slim case", it's a bit thick and heavy
Most important: if you have it latched in one of the two stand positions, it will mask the speaker at the bottom, leading to bad sound experience. This is especially annoying when watching videos
Hope that helps. Maybe I can take some pictures soon.
In my CRS years it seems at the end of my day I tend to fall asleep while reading or working with my new Note 8.0. I'm using the excellent Poetic Revolution semi-rugged case as mu daily driver. Probelm.is putting the pen away involves flipping up a flap which, apparently, is too much work because I often fall asleep with the N8 and pen on my chest.
Well last night I seem to have fallen alseep then rolled over on the pen. The pen broke arond the inset cutout line near the upper end of the pen. Busted clean in two. A bit of PC11 marine epoxy should have it repaired in the next day or two give or take as it cures. Problem is somehow I set the top 180 degrees out so the flat side is of the upper portion is on the wrong side. Hopefully it will still slide in place for storage.
Point of my post is that cut out line around the upper end is pointless and needlessly weakens the s-pen's structure. Sadly to me it seems an intentionally induced point of failure. Of coruse that is while wearing my tinfoil hat. But wanted.to remind others of this very weak design so be careful with your S-pen and slip it back into it's cubbyhole when not in use.
I also learned the pen is HOLLOW which makes that portion of the pen even more fragile due to a thinner side wall.
At $29.99/pen on Amazon this is not an inexpensive screw up on my part. I have a backup beacusebof good luck and not good planning. But if I had not been lucky enough to grab a Wacom CS3002 work tomorrow would suck hard as my N8 is my goto tool throughout the day.
I wish there were not the reported offset issues with other than the Samsung original S-pen, 8pi and Wacom Bamboo Feel CS3002 (do note that part number as it apparently matters.) But the fragile original design serves only a single purpose and the lack of offset free options makes the $30-$40 replacement cost pretty beyond acceptable.
Still my fault but hard to swallow.
crap... d 'oh!! of course the pen won't fit back in the slot. It's designed to match the contour of the case. So looks like I'll have to re-break it after work... sigh...

Same has happened to my stylus after just fall on the floor.
As there is no replacement in the stores for note 8.0, am looking for a lot of offers for repacement of note II or note 10.1 styluses.
It looks like only colours are different.
So, can anyone confirm whether styluses from note II or 10.1 fits note 8 stylus pocket?
I ended up fixing mine with a a bit of gel type superglue and a section of wooden (round) toothpick to fill the hollow center & provide support. Worked perfectly and feels very solid.
I saw no reason to plank down $35 or whatever for a new pen.
BTW, far as I know none of the other S-pens fit the N8.

Many thanks,
@civato - following your footsteps (Sam product code) i have found even better offer at 123onlinebuy.de for EUR14 (am not allowed for links posting...):
Anyway it means time and money, so @Breck hint of DIY fixing is the option for the time being.
btw. This looks really strange if Samsung decided to design brand new stylus for 8.0. and not keep ataching those from note II and 10.1..

I suspect the pen differences will eventually be designed out ' well at least for tablet size devices of 6" or larger. I noticed the 10.1 2014 is close to the same thickness as our N8's. Actually the N8 & N10.1 are 8mm (O.31mm) and the N3 is 8.3mm (0.33in) which might be a nice move toward the possibility of a universal pen. I'm also guessing owners of the N10.1 will sort of be expecting a more "normal" size stylus. That aside my instinct is it's length not girth presenting the larger challenge moving to a unified Note family pen. We'll see once the production versions hit shelves.
Though my complaint is/was about the designed in point of failure and having to resort to "Red Green" style DIY (there I failed due to not using ANY Duct Tape). My real let down is with the feel of the Samsung branded larger pen, the 8Pi as it's far lighter than the regular pens I'm used to. That pushed me right to Wacom for their Stylus Feel for the Galaxy Note (model CS 3002). That pen feels just right to me for writing (I'm no artist). The girth is better as well.
Did the stylus on the N2 have the same cut-out band around the upper portion as on our N8's? If so maybe we were just "special" in breaking ours? I tend to doubt that though.

The one and only thing that frustrates me about the Galaxy line is the lack of sports cases/bands that fit well, protect the phone and are comfortable. I've gone through a half dozen since the SGSII and they all sucked. And some were outright highway robbery for what they offered.
This Elevate Sleeve on Kickstarter looks like it has good potential. I'd back it, but the creator will only support bigger devices if he gets more than 25 requests. If anyone also thinks this could be the right sports case, head over and make a request for the SGSIV. There are other "sleeve" type cases, even a couple from Kickstarter, but they are just like the armbands, not real high quality, look cheap and still have that raggedy plastic face.
I was going to buy something similar from nike yesterday, but the last time I checked it out I didn't notice, it was for iphones/ipods.....I was seriously bummed.
Big thanks for posting this and getting my hope up a little bit!!
If I understood correctly, then they consider requests, not how many will actually going to buy this?? Everyone who even likes the idea....start emailing
The price is actually quite good too.....~10€ more expensive than the nike's long sleeves that were 50% off, but the elevate definitely seems alot nicer!!!

Yeah, as I mentioned above, there are several other sleeve-style cases, but none that don't suck. I'm guessing you haven't used the NIKE version, which doesn't fit an SGSIV with or without a case on it, nor is it comfortable. Also the NIKE sleeve has the same cheap plastic face and the phone sits on the underside of your forearm rather than the top (very uncomfortable position when running IMO.) Sadly, it is still the best of the cases I've tried, too bad it doesn't work with anything but an old iPhone I use as an iPod.
I'd wager that this or even this were as much an inspiration as the NIKE+ sleeve for the Elevate.
If your criteria for buying something is that it be an original idea, your place must be empty. We don't come across may truly original ideas in the world we live in today. I'll happily take an innovation on an existing product in lieu of an original/bleeding edge product if it gets the job done. If we didn't buy better versions of existing products, we wouldn't have iOS nor Android devices, now would we?
That said, the Elevate is an unproven product, not unlike the betas we all like to run here at XDA, so I am not touting it as the end-all-be-all in fitness cases. From the specs and the prototype, it certainly looks like an innovation over the NIKE version. I'm also not asking anyone else to back the product. I'm just hoping that some folks will head over and chime in for the S4 so that if I decide to back it, I will have a case to receive.

That's exactly where there problem started, it's for the iphone...a tiny inferior phone.....a lot of useful stuff is produced for iphones/ipods only because they get to link their product with apple's name....but the rest of us have to suffer...
The approach on the materials is nice...shows that more consideration has gone into the product plus a possibility to get it for other phones as well....at least that seemed to be the idea behind this thread....

Bingo!
And as of today, they only need 17 more requests to make this for the S4.
(Potential) Backers — Here's a quick update on the request count that we've gotten so far. Looks like S4 is our most popular so far. Not surprised. Just 17 more requests and we're adding it to the production list.
I put in my request yesterday! Hopefully we get enough for our S4's to be accommodated because this sleeve looks amazing! :good:
I've asked the maker to consider a semi universal sleeve for larger (not the largest, sorry Note folks) phones as this range is relatively similar in size.
Visual Comparison and SIze Specs
Found this kickstarter the other day and backed it. Seems to have a lot of potential if it'll fit the bigger phones (S3/S4)
Okay there's nothing much to see here but I wanted to share some ideas and wonder what you guys would think about it. Okay here it goes. I've noticed that from reviews that a lot of people have been expecting smartphones to be released with premium quality designs and now this trend with brushed aluminium housing which usually ends up getting into some casing to conceal all that beauty. I also understand that there's a huge demand from consumers with regards to phone covers and I see that OEM don't particularly pay a lot of attention to this demand. And the ones who do offer OEM cases have very limited and very generic looking designs.
So heres the idea: why don't manufacturers offer smartphones that are very minimalistic( like a Nexus 5), generic (boxy) and even slimmer in design and focus more on marketing a bigger variety of housing/cases that would perfectly fit the phone like a glove. Given that the phone would be extremely slim, this would not add much bulk to the phone after fitting the case. In fact it would still be comparable to the thickness of most smartphones in the market.
So heres the scenario: you walk into a store and choose to purchase this type of smartphone, then you get offered a choice to select from the wide selection of outer shell to protect the delicate core and personalize it according to your requirement.
The manufacturer can then focus on offering more varieties of shells with each coming months to liven up and keep their product line active instead of trying to release different versions of the same phone a few months after release.
If this concept is new then I hope some OEM is reading this and decides to take up the idea. I would definitely get one.
What do you guys think?

I realize this is a question that detracts from the software-oriented scope of this forum but I wanted to ask if any users of previous Galaxy S20 and 21 phones ever used these addon lenses (that come with dedicated cases with threads for 17mm or Moment's proprietary lens/filter mount, easy unobtrusive on the fly switching and looking heaps better than those ugly clip-ons).
Moment decided to focus on Apple phones from now on, as their Apple-exclusive main competitor Sandmarc does. Moment still sells lenses and lens-compatible cases for S20/21 and some late Pixels and Onepluses, but they apparently didn't think it was profitable to do so for the S22 series.
Ulanzi, same story, but I haven't found anything specific about S22, it's a Chinese company from what I gather so it's harder to get info, it's all a bit muddy.
So yeah, my question is if there are any users of these previous products here and what they think of the prospects of properly designed addon lenses and threaded cases for the S22U.
It has killer cameras and the 108mp sensor would lend itself so well to a slick case-integrated adapter of external lenses.
Of course there is always Beastgrip and other universal "cages", but those are quite bulky.
