Hi there,
Every time I play a Music Video, The decoder always defaults to HW even though I checked the setting for HW+ to be used for local files in the Decoder settings. I always have to manually change the decoder to HW+ from HW with each mp4 that's played . Am I missing something? That's what the setting is for right?
Asus Transformer TF101
Thanks in Advance!
Could just be a temporary caching thing. Try this:
1. As you've already done, Settings -> Decoder -> HW+ local
2. finish playback of all files
3. Menu -> Exit
4. Clear the app cache
See what happens after that. I had similar issues before, and it was a caching thing.

As @CDB-Man said
1. Hope you have enabled H/W+ Decoder & H/W+ Decoder (Local)
2. If you have paused the video earlier with other decoders, the last decoder used for that particular video is saved in activity status. So, when it asks to resume you have to start over rather than resume. Your video will be played in HW+.
3.Else simply clearing the activity records by clicking clear history on Settings 》 General will reset status (Not # for all videos & your video will be played in HW+.

I did exactly that, playing from within MX player but it didn't work. I cleared the cache in the Main Settings of my device.
And it doesn't work either even playing it from my folder using X-plore or Total Commander. I also cleared the cache including the file manager in the Main Settings.
Could you post a mediainfo dump on the file? I'm thinking it may be an issue with it picking up on encode data. This is weird as per what you say, the video does play in HW+ mode after you manually change it.

Sorry no joy. Then I also cleared all the caches in Settings->General then Quit , cleared cache again from Main Settings then entered MXplayer and still no joy. Sorry.

I'm sorry for the delay. It took time looking for an appropriate video to extract the MI from, as a consequence, I had to download another video for this, this video is no different from my videos in that the problem also applied to it when I played it :

2. On the manual shifting to HW+ while the video is in play, I was happy enough that the video does not anymore revert to the start position like before Thanks for that Dev !

My only guess is that this might be the issue. I could be wrong, but I think i remember the developer mentioning somewhere that it tries to let the hardware select a decoder first. Anyways, @bleu8888 could you take a look?

It's a very old codec.
It's a implementation of h263 to use it in a flash container. It was used in flash player v6 & v7. But, I am not sure why it's automatically switches to HW.
Can you upload or share a sample video link?
So that I can test.

The media info you have posted earlier was having Sorenson Spark h263 video in mp4 container.
The attcahed video is AVC/h264 in mp4 container.
I have tested the file you have attached. But, After enabling HW+ decoder It directly plays in HW+ in my test.
There is no problem with MX Player. Your are doing something wrong while following the instructions.
Are you trying to play the file from network share/ SMB share?
If it so , Then you have to enable HW+ Decoder (Network) too.
If you are not then Open Settings >> General >> Clear History
Enable HW+ Decoder (Local) from Settings >> Decoder
Then Try again.
LIST -> SCAN -> File Extensions

I went through the whole SETTINGS, one configurable setting after another and this time realized that there was another way, a more specific way, to configure the codec to be used, for a particular type of file extension. Which means we can configure the type of codec to be used (whether HW, HW+, or SW) for any specific file extension (mp4, wmv, flv, or any and every file extension) in SETTINGS -> LIST -> SCAN -> FILE EXTENSION. I believe this "more specific" setting overrides SETTINGS -> DECODER -> HARDWARE DECODER and SOFTWARE DECODER which are more general configurable settings.
And this explains why no matter how I change the DECODER settings to use HW+ codec for my local files, MXplayer still plays the music video using HW. Because the first time I ever used MXplayer I already configured MXplayer to use HW codec for all mp4 files in SETTINGS -> LIST -> SCAN -> FILE EXTENSION. Its been almost 3 years using MXplayer that it has slipped my mind. This setting by the way, though not really located deep in the underbelly of SETTINGS, is quite a bit off from the DECODER Settings.
Kindly accept my apologies for all this. My tail is down between my legs in shame And I also felt I needed to post this for the thread to go full-circle, and who knows?, a satisfied but wondering MXplayer user might come onto this thread and say "Eureka !". It is still a valid and useful thread I believe.
Thank you both !
Benjamin
You are definitely right that most people would not even think to go there.

Hi,
I tried to search and look around in this forum and still cannot resolve my problem.
I just installed MX Player pro. I ripped and made one MKV movie file from bluray with embedded subtitles in the file.
I tested the file with my TV and DUNE HD player and also tested this file on my computer with XBMC, VLC media play. The movie can be played smoothly and I can control, select, enable, or disable subtitles as usual.
However, when I loaded the file to my Samsung Note 8, MX player pro can play movie smoothly and fine. The only problem is that there is no subtitle shown, although I selected or enabled subtitles.
I also tried enable and disable in Setting > Subtitle > Enable Subtile and Setting > Subtitle > Enable Embeded Subtiles , but it doesn't help.
Please suggest.

Did you check subtitle track button on the playback screen?
There may a speech balloon button on the upper right corner of the playback screen, if video have one or more subtitle tracks.

Hi bleu8888, do you mean the mini button on the right corner? There are H/W, subtitles, audio.
Yes I checked it. I enabled one, two, or sometimes even all of them, but no subtitle is shown.
Note: I just tested the file with "VLC for android" and it works as expected. All subtitles work fine.
Thus, I guess there must be some missing or incorrect configuration in my MX Player Pro. Please help.

Hmm, pgs subs shouldn't generally cause a problem... as bleu requested, mind sharing your file somewhere? If the file's big, could you clip out a few minutes and share that instead?

Hi bleu8888
I installed it. It looks like an updated part, doesn't it? Anyway, it works as expected now.
Thank a lot!
You can use Avdshare Video Converter to removing subtitles from MKV with the help of an MKV Subtitle Remover named MKV Subtitle Remover.
Hello guys,
i would like to ask you for help with this problem.
I have Xtreamer SideWinder4 on Android 4.2.2, there is this specs:
Chipset:
Processor: Dual-Core AML8726 Mx-D (AMLOGIC) ARM Cortex-A9 dual core/1.5GHZ
Memory:
FLASH: 8GB NAND Flash (32M bit nor flash+32GbitMLC flash)
SDRAM: 1GB DDR3
1. If i switch audio track in mkv movie, then it play both audio together. It´s mean first audio track (usualy Enghlish) and second one(for which i want switch) together. I have tried some things to solve it out like tick on/off s/w audio, play with s/w or h/w, with or without custom codecs but nothing helps. If i play the movie with s/w then audio is ok (it just play selected audio), but video is not smooth and it´s very slow. If i switch for h/w than video is great, but there is the problem with double audio.
2. I can´t use h/w+ as it says everytime " this file can´t be played with h/w+". I don´t know why. I am using Mx player on my tablet(with cortex A9 quad core) as well and there is no any problem with it. I can play there movie with h/w+ and switch audio track with no problem.
Any ideas please how to resolve it?
Thanks in advance.

Mx player show me all audio tracks which are include in movie and i can select any of them.
By me the main problem is that i can´t use h/w+. On my tablet i am using h/w+ and there is no problem like on this Xtreamer.

Have you enabled H/W audio track selecectable in Settings》Decoder..?
Try again after disabling it. It may cause problem in some devices. It's better to keep it disabled in your case since you have problem only in H/W mode.
If it's still not working, Enable S/W audio in Settings 》Decoder & Try to play it in H/W decoder. By this you can play video in H/W & audio in S/W.
Try the both combination (H/W audio track selecectable is disabled & S/W audio is enabled)
Note:
After changing the settings, when it ask to resume don't resume & select start over. Else it will use the previously used decoder settings.

Hi, thanks for reply.
I have tried the options what you wrote me, but no change. In H/W decoder video play great, but it´s play only first audio track, even if i select second one still play the first.
In S/W decoder audio play great, i can select audio track with no problem, but video doesn´t play smooth. It play very slow.
So i really don´t know what else it can be.

have you tried the thinks that I have mentioned in my previous reply?
Your reply is same as what your have reported earlier.
1. Have you tried the same after disabling H/W audio track selecectable from Settings 》Decoder ?
2. Have you tried in H/W mode after enabling S/W audio from Settings 》Decoder ? (First enable S/W audio then change the track)
3. Try Both together.
As I have already told don't resume after changing anything on settings 》decoder. Else it will use the same settings when you have used earlier.

can you post the screenshot of video properties window (after enabling more)?
It will be better if you can post the logs as well.
Previous log doesn't contains any playback information. Logs must be collected immediately after playback.
Just play the video that has issue, if you are getting double audio close the video & Immediately go to Help >> Bug Report
Save the logs & attach here.

Thank you for the answer.
Here is a report. Unfortunately I can't do the screenshots here, but there's nothing special about the video, the problem occures with the most files that I've tried.

Hello,
I seem to have this same issue. For video files with multiple audio streams, if I select H/W decoding I cannot switch between audio tracks. I didn't investigate which audio track MX Player is processing. Probably it's the first one it can find in the file.
If I switch to S/W decoding, this problem goes away (i.e. I can switch audio tracks), however the S/W decoding is very slow and watching the video in this mode is impossible on my device. Also, I absolutely need the H/W decoding for sound because my device is doing DTS and AC3 multichannel passthrough for my AV receiver and 5.1 audio system.
I'm using the ARM v7 codec (auto requested by MX Player). My device is a HiMedia Q5 with an ARM Cortex9 core.
Many thanks for any updates!
Best regards,
Marian.

One more update for this one: I have the same problem with embedded subtitle tracks. When in H/W decoding MX Player doesn't play, nor can I select embedded subtitle streams. This, however, works in S/W decoding (just like the audio track selection).
Please also note that external subtitles work just fine (in both S/W and H/W decoding modes).
Can we get a confirmation of this bug in

?
Thank you,
Marian.
[Bug Report] MicroDVD subtitles don't work on MKV videos after in version >= 1.7.33
After updating to version 1.7.33 or 1.7.34 the MicroDVD subtitles on MKV videos aren't showing.
SRT subtitles wok well, MP4 videos with MicroDVD subtitles work well too.
Example video file:
Video stream:
Sub type: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
FourCC: AVC1 (H.264/MPEG-4)
Bit planes: 12
Dimensions: 1280x720
AvgTimePerFrame: 417083
FPS: 23,98
Audio stream:
Major type: Audio
Sub type: DOLBY_AC3
Channels: 6
Audio tag: 0x2000 (Dolby AC3 / FAST Multimedia AG DVM)
Frequence: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 1536000
Are you getting sound? Did you install any custom codec?
It depends on the device. On my TV Dongle (Rikomagic MK802IIIS8G(B) - RK3066 procerssor) I have sound but MicroDVD subtitles don't work.
On my phone (HTC One S Z520e - MSM8260A procerssor) I don't have sound in H/W mode,
must use S/W audio (custom codec v7 NEON 1.7.32) but the MicroDVD subtitles don't work either...
Does the subtitle file have the same name and is in the same folder with the video you are trying to play?
Yes, it is... I've reverted back to 1.7.32 and everything works ok. On 1.7.33 and 1.7.34 it doesn't.
I've noticed that when I jump a few minutes forward on the movie a random subtitle is shown, but it doesn't change for correct one.
One important thing. I'm streaming this videos from Windows share on my computer.
I'm doing this with ES File Explorer using Samba protocol. Nevertheless the SRT subtitles work well in this config...
Did you check settings>subtitles>enable subtitles?
Yup, it's enabled. I've tried different settings with my TV dongle. In pure S/W mode the subtitles work, they also work in H/W+ mode.
But in H/W mode the don't. I don't have custom codec but I have sound so I presume that my dongle has AC3 codec built in the firmware.

Does MX Player lists the subtitle when you start in H/W decoder?
If it's loaded it will show a symbol.
If it's not showing, do the following
Start playing in HW decoder (you won't get subtitle as per your statement), then try in H/W+ (you may get subtitle). Now close the video & immediately goto Help | Bug Report. Save the logs and upload here.
For what container formats do the MicroDVD subtitles not show? Mp4? Mkv? Both?

@devshin Would you send me subtitle file (or video file is subtitle is embedded in a video file)?
I've checked some MicroDVD subtitles file but could not find any issue.
I'm using Youtube-dlG (GUI) to download childrens programmes from the National Danish Broadcasting Company. They're h264, AAC files.
The videos play in MX Player, but every five seconds or so there is gfx corruption. The same videos play fine in eg. VLC.
I can't post links but if you google "skaeg med matematik 7" the first link is to one of the videos that has this problem when downloaded locally to my Nexus 7 (2012) running stock Android 5.0.2.
It would be great to have MX Player play these videos, so we don't need to switch players for them. Thanks.
If you go to advanced posting and uncheck "Automatically parse links in text", then you can post links.
Could you post the mediainfo of one of the downloaded videos?
Thanks for the tip.
When downloading the vids it's obvious that they are divided into a lot of chunks - wouldn't surprise me if that's part of the problem. I should probably mention that it's not all videos downloaded from this particular corporation that displays the problem. Other vids are fine.
Here is the mediainfo output:

Apparently those are MP4 DASH files. Until the developer clarifies the issue, you can try remuxing to non-DASH via "ffmpeg -i source.mp4 -c: copy target.mp4" or mp4box
Great suggestion @wOxxOm ! @bleu8888 is this an issue with ffmpeg support?

@sittingduck77 I've tried "skaeg med matematik 7" download from Youtube-dlG.
I am not sure but Its URL appeared first on my Google.com is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRxrmHCuIV4
I've tried all three decoders HW, HW+, SW but all decoders worked fine without any graphics corruption.
I would be able to test further if you send me your downloaded file or exact YouTube download URL.
Kindly send me a PM if you don't want to post URL or file.
BTW, does this issue exists with all three decoders -- HW, HW+, SW?
Thanks
The remuxing using FFMPEG works perfectly. Thank for the tip.
bleu888: I tried all modes, and the gfx corruption happens with H/W+. H/W doesn't play at all. S/W works perfectly.
Please note this is not a file from youtube, but from dr.dk, which is a Danish tv station. I'll send you a PM in a moment with a link for the exact file.

I have a 2012 Nexus 7 running 5.0.2 (LRX22G) that I flashed myself directly from a factory image using Google's recommended procedure, so it's a clean install. I'm at work now, but I'll try to clear the cache and reinstall MX Player tonight to see if that does anything. Also, the gfx coruption happens on my kid's profile which is a non-administrator profile. I'll try the file on the admin profile and see if that changes anything. I admit to not investigating the problem further before reporting it.
Nope, no matter what I do, I can't get H/W+ mode to play the file without the gfx hiccups. If you need me to post a video of how it looks, just let me know.
When using MiBox (AndroidTV), i got very low quality image when using HW+ decoder, HW and SW works fine.
its so bad, i wont' even need to tell you what photo is using each decoder.

Can you share the sample clip?
We will test is in our MiBOX?
What's the version of the MX Box? What's the android version?
Can you provide more information about the important settings like screen resolution, refresh rate, other display settings?

MxPlayer latest version, my tv output is 1080p 60hz, I tested with latest marshmallow version , and recently upgraded to latest nougat (august), both version have the same problem.
It's a stream , i can provide you a link to the stream in private if you want (it's in my internal network, not so good upload but you can see for yourself)
Another problem that same stream have, when using HW codec, you cant reliably change audio stream. (if not for that, HW will be perfect)
Got this info from the stream when using MPC-Home Cinema:
