nexus 4 does not support usb otg. the only way is to have a custom rom with usb otg AND have a Y micro usb cable to give power to the disc.
in other words nexus only supports external powered usb otg.

this a list of compatible kernels. somewhere in the forums there is a thread for this if i remember that so search and you will find it.

Hi guys,
I'm pretty new at all this, so I'll just tell you what my problem is:
I bought an OTG cable (by eforcity) - male USB micro to female USB A, and I plugged it into my Droid X. The droid is not recognizing the thumbdrives I've tried. I'm on Android 2.3.3, system version 4.5.605, Stock, Rooted.
So, how do I do USB hosting with that cable? Do I need something more? Do I need a custom Kernel/ ROM on my device to support it?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
I got a USB OTG cable but when i plug it in nothing happens. it looks all confusing, I am running build 17 of Team EOS ICS. What do i do?
Try downloading/running one of the apps that mount external USB drives.

I have tried about 3 of them but nothing happens.
Is there a certain format it needs to be ? (Fat32) etc.
Do i need a special kernel?
Which cable did you buy? I'm about to buy an OTG cable as well.

So guys i read somewhere before that USB OTG cable only works with android 3.x and aboove because they contain necessary kernals needed to make USB work.......maybe that was the reason USB OTG wasnt working on stock rom........
has anyone tried OTG cable on CM10/10.1..??...maybe that might work.....
plz someone tell me if it works on our phone or not....i really want to connect external storages to my ace plus

Hello Everyone,
I came across the new Sony Flash Drives with MicroUSB port.
Will it work as USB OTG on Xperia L?
As far as what I have read here is that Xperia L needs external power for OTG to work.
So just need more information regarding this new flash drives which Sony displays as USB On The Go Flash Drives.
It would be great if it works.

Xperia L does not support OTG and thus I am afraid this would not work for your device. I saw the link and it clearly says that the USB flash disk DOESNOT provide its own power (It's dependant on the phone's board for power) so it wouldnot work ! However, if you find a way to power your USB drive externally , it would work given that proper modifications are made in the kernel.
Even If I can do this all, I wouldnot trouble myself with OTG as their would be too many cables/adapter to power usb etc and I will simply stick to a 32gb sd card !
To be very certain, you can ask sony care about the matter!
Good Luck

Yes, you are very much correct..
It would require a USB OTG Host with male and female usb sockets to power it on.
Thanks for the reply.
USB OTG
It's only that our phone can't powerup the external USB drive for now. If you can power it with any other source, phone will be able to do it.
Same is the case with sony flash drive.
Let's wait for some hardware tweaks by developers to divert more power through USB or wait for external drives which require less power.:silly:
Hi,
This is my first post so bear with me ...
I have recently purchased Moto G and was trying out OTG functionality. I have brought a USB 3.0 16gb pen drive and formatted it in FAT32 File system and trying to connect to Moto G using a OTG cable (USB 2.0) but it is giving an error "USB storage is blank or has unsupported filesystem"
I recently tried out with 8gb USB 2.0 pen drive an it was working fine.
Can you please advice what could be the issue here and how to fix this?
Thanks,
Mukund

I believe the 16gb USB3.0 pen drive you have is backwards compatible I.e, it also supports USB2.0
Then the problem is with the file system of the pendrive ... Stock moto g ROMs doesn't detect NTFS USB devices... You should change it to fat32 and try

Thanks, But I already have FAT32 as the file system for my pen drive. Is there is a posibility that Moto g / OTG cable doesn't have capability to transfer date as 3.0 speeds or backward compatibility should take care of it ?
Will it help if I have a OTG-USB 3.0 cable, or it will also have the same issue may be due to Moto G limitation?
Thanks,
Mukund

As your phone supports USB 2.0, I think that's why you are facing problem with USB 3. pen drive.
As far I know, USB port is related to hardware. So, probably you won't be able to upgrade your USB 2.0 to USB 3.0, but I am not sure.

hmm..It is possible, But I am not sure what is the phone capability. I thought moto G may have support for connecting to USB 3.0 using OTG-USB 3.0 cable, which is recently introduced in market. I did some google research on the same but could not find out if there is some intrinsic limitation of Moto G with USB 3.0..
