Hello,
So today I had a few hours to waste at school. I played around on my phone just using social media and stuff but I noticed the battery went down REALLY fast. Also I noticed that the phone was very hot when just browsing twitter. I'm rooted, have elementalX installed and I'm on dalvik. I'll include photos. Help would be appreciated. I had GPS off, also the 'ok google' command was turned off. I know the Nexus 5 battery life isn't great but I normally get about 3-4 hours of screen on time, I only use my phone to browse social media really.
Thanks in advance!

well, your wifi connection looks terrible, thatll drain battery very fast. plus google play services took a little battery from you.
Hmm, I was only sitting in thay class for about 20 minutes though and normally I get way better battery life at school. I will check on the play services though. thanks!

If you're rooted, gsam or something similar can tell you if you had any wakelocks, and if so, what app.
The stock battery usage screen pretty much has no useful info.

You know what you're doing.... But if someone doesn't.... They'll never find issues with it.... Most the time. Or see wakelocks.

Oh, and as a full time battery life helper.....I can't help anyone without something better than stock screen shots....not without taking guess after guess. Lol

except thats the first place ill see when a wakelock is bugging my phone. itll show up as my phone being awake when my screens off. normally when my phone screen is off, my phone doesnt get woken(except for gmails or messages). but if i see it awake, i know i have wakelock to kill(or get a system process unstuck).

But how do you find the wake locks? Like a needle in a hay stack without a battery monitoring app.
And again, I'm sure you personally can find them quick enough, but 90 percent on here can't.... And I sure can't if they don't get gsam, BBS, wakelock detector or something.

its usually like one of three anyways(if i get bad one). anyways, i use wakelock detector to greenify sysyem apps occasionally, or if i need to find a wakelock https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector

Gsam is great overall....but wakelock detector has more detail for actual wakelocks.
When helping someone, I usually ask for gsam main screen.... To get the big picture, then wakelocks.
K.... we're hijacking. Even tho its thread related... I still must report us both. ?

Install an app like BetterBatteryStats or Wakelock Detector. They will show more information but require root.

actually yes, but could that be such a major drain factor??

the device itself is about 10 day old. so can't pinpoint exactly
Seems to be a strange issue. Maybe you should give it some time. If it is not getting any better you should consider rooting and install a better battery app
You could try a factory reset

Battery drain app might give you some ideas, I'm averaging 0.85% hour with location and google now on
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.WazaBe.android.BatteryDrain
There are threads and a bug report with Motorola regarding this. It seems sometimes once GPS is used the battery continues to drain at 1-3% per hour until you reboot.
It may not be the issue in your case but it looks likely as the drain you see when the phone is not awake looks very similar to the problem.
If it drains in airplane mode and the phone shows as never awake then its the same problem.
For now don't use GPS or if you do then reboot directly after.

If you use your camera, then that might be the problem. Google itself noted a bug in Kit Kat that may run down the battery if you use the camera. Do a search on Google for more details...

@emgee It's showing a drain of 2.8%/hr with wifi on
Prior to this early morning I had turned off data and wifi and I got a battery drop from 100% to 91% in about 7 hrs, is that Ok?

If you are getting the weird drain issue that seems to be related to GPS then maybe best to use battery saving. Depends his bad you need GPS though. So up to you really.
battery drain around 2.5 % /hr . Basically havent been using phone after 82%
nearly was late for work because my phone died and i was using it as an alarm. what could have drained 50% battery in 6 hours and not show? wifi was off
while the graph is nice, better battery stats is what we need.

what you didnt post is the page with what was using your battery by %. now how are we supposed to tell you what happened and what used your battery? this thread is pointless because you gave us no usable information. what i got from the info that you did post is that a UFO flew by you and drained your battery of its power. and the thing is, my guess will be just as good as any other guess.

stock alarm app, no. but you do have a lot of wakelocks. when the screen is shown off, your device should be asleep. your device shows a lot of activity when your screens off(ironically, not when the supposed battery drain happened though, so i cant say thats why it drained).
Do you have the horrid camera bug?
Do you use exchange at all? I've had a lot of phones (android mostly htc and iphones) hit bugs from exchange in push mode and burn through their battery really quickly constantly trying to sync and hitting an error.
I charge mine on my dresser next to my head, and also use it as an alarm, I'd recommend charging it over night

I'm guessing this http://www.androidcentral.com/googl...cpu-usage-bug-fix-coming-next-android-release
I found it by googling "Nexus 5 horrid camera bug" lol, first link
Stock apps have no such issue as till date.Except for apps that use internet /wifi consume a lot of battery. So switch of those frst or keep ur cell on flight mode. The battery consumption may be due to gplay service, account sync, gmaps etc. I don't own a nexus device but I have experienced this kind of behaviour with my phone sometimes with a hot back cover sometimes.Try using apps like greenify to control this prob(or switch of ur network @ night/use lower cpu values + governers like powersave/conservative)
My battery is god-awful after the update. I know the stock answer is to disable stuff and see what happens but that would take me about a month.
It seems like android OS is a huge percentage (like 40% sometimes) and my screen only lasts for about 2 hours (on about 25% brightness).
Is there any app out there that can pin-point my issue without having to constantly troubleshoot for a month?
My wife has a Moto X that outlasts my maxx.
Sorry for yet another battery question.

I had issues with the native email client using POP3 accounts. I had more than one account set up. Over a short period my phone lost its mind and synchronized as fast as it could. Killed my battery in a matter of hours. I had to delete them and use only one. Hooray KitCrap.
I also found that under the Google settings, turning off the device managers like remote wipe helped a lot.
Lastly Motocare was causing a lot of issues. I had turned it off under Motorola privacy but it was still collecting data. In the settings/apps/all I cleared the 50+MB of data and force stopped it and did the same for MotocareInt. That seemed to help a lot.
I have a much improved battery. Almost like on Jelly Bean.
Hope this helps.

Everyone talks about Gsam but I find it unhelpful for this application. All it tells me is that the Kernal (androis OS)is using 37% of app ussage (next one is Android system @ 3%) and then is says it COULD be anyone of the next 80 included processes.
Is there anything out there that could show specifically what's eating the battery?
Try better battery stats

Try Better Battery stats, its not free though , use Battery stats plus, I already used it and maybe thats the app youve been looking for or try Wakelock detector, its different.. it shows the app how long its using the background processes, thats what I understand, and im still using it...

Hey guys. I recently went back to 25r in an attempt to get better battery. And I am. What's strange is that in the first 50% I'll get 3hours soc. But I'm now on 18% with 4hours and 10 mins. Seems kinda strange. Not using the phone any differently. I do have a Google play services drain but its only 14% and I don't think its doing that much harm
Any one else?

Fix the drain, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525
Posts like this don't really help as we need to see what wakelocks are going on with your phone as well as the number of times its waking up your device.
The whole post-50% is a coincidence.
It's completely normal for you to have a 'faster' drain on the lower 50% of your battery life. But what Zephik said is right, it's impossible to say what's happening on your device without you providing some accompanying analytical data.

Im quiet happy with my battery, get about 3 hours soc until 50% and then i get home from work, so its not a massive issue for me. What i find weird is the 49%-1%
Drain a hell of a lot faster, not really an explanation as to why it does that?
Hoping the 38r update that comes out next sunday makes it even better though

Install a app such as GSam / Wakelock Detector / BetterBatteryStats, on your next battery cycle running one of the 3 apps listed, post up screenshots of the listings so we can further discuss this. Or you can take a look at them yourself if you know what to look for.
You'd be looking for partial wakelocks / wake ups
hi everybody, since one or two weeks i see i have a big battery drain when my phone is "inactive"... how to resolve this please?
Your screenshot doesn't tell us anything. Further debugging can be found using BetterBatteryStats / Gsam / Wakelock Detector, root is required.
A app is preventing your phone from deep sleeping.
The only thing your screenshot does show us is that Play Services is there, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525
View that to fix that but theres definitely more to it than Play Services.

I don't understand your question. In actuality, it takes a couple days for your phone to settle in the new kernel if thats what you're asking.
As long as your phone is properly deep sleeping, you shouldn't be worrying.
You can find out by using 1 of the 3 apps I mentioned previously.

i say, is it possible that the battery drain comes from new kernel?(AK)
also thanks for your help dude, and i modified googleplay services as you've told me with my fresh install of cm11...
I have 2 days of battery life almost and still have 20% left. I use this phone heavily and haven't recharged.
I had the same problem where 60% drain overnight.
Now 2 says.
All I did was turn off Facebook Location services.
That's it.
Facebook was draining so much. I have Wifi on, GPS with High Accuracy.
Facebook always drains a significant amount of battery, I prefer using the mobile website but if you must need the app then greenify it.
