[Q] Backup and removing bloatwares (System apps) - General Questions and Answers

Hello everyone! I have questions on ROM backup and removing bloatwares which are also known as system apps which come in your phone pre-installed.
I have currently Jelly Bean 4.2.2 on my phone and it is rooted with Framaroot which I have downloaded on XDA itself. When I bought this phone, there were many pre-installed system apps along, but I have disabled all which I do not use.
Now, I want to completely remove them from my phone. I have heard that if I want to remove the bloatwares COMPLETELY from my phone, they will be gone forever and also they will not be appeared again even if I do a factory reset. If this is true, then I will need to backup my current 4.2.2 system including with the bloatwares, and then remove the bloatwares completely after backup. I will have to backup because in case of problem, I can recover it.
I have three questions at this time:
Is it true if you uninstall bloatwares COMPLETELY on your phone, they will not appear later even if you do a factory reset?
How can I backup my actual ENTIRE 4.2.2 system with its bloatwares etc, to store on PC and then will reinstall later in case of emergency? I have heard of custom recovery, but explain me more. I want to backup the entire system.
If I want to install the backup system again later, how to do it?
Thank!

I don't know about the gone forever thing but Titanium Backup Pro can backup & restore all system & user apps, it can also uninstall system apps

Use Rom tool box to back up your rom. Or use No bloat from google play to remove boatwares.
Never underestimate a kid whose poor in cash but rich in time.

With a custom recovery like CWM oder TWRP you can do a backup of your whole system (called Nandroid). In case of an emergency (?) you can flash the backup to you phone and everything will be there again, even if you deleted all the bloatware apps afterwards.
You can also use Titanium Backup to backup all your data and to remove these system apps later on. Having this backup you can re-install the apps afterwards.
To wrap this up. Having a backup enables you to reinstall deleted apps and they won't be gone forever. However, when deleting the backup everything will be gone of course

Thank you for replying. I have another question, where to download ROM 4.2.2 for Huawei Y320-U10?

You can boot into recovery mode of your phone and select backup, this will backup your rom with only system apps and not the ones you install later.
If you want backup of rom with your other installed apps and their app data then use a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP or an application called Online Nandoid
If you want to backup individual apks use Titanium Backup ( needs root)
To delete system apps you can use Titanium Backup or use a ROOT EXPLORER to go to /system/app/ and delete the apks of unneeded apps.

Titanium Backup Help

I recently flashed a new rom (the last time I did this was almost 2 years ago so I forgot what to do). Titanium backup has been doing weekly updates for a long time. So when I started up the phone titanium backup is gone, I read that I must redownload from the play store, but when I run it, it says I failed to acquire root privileges. It tells me to get busy box, so I download that too, but that won't install properly.
What should I do now? Have I lost root? The bootloader is available...that means it's still rooted right? The internal sd card still shows my folder of titanium backup and all the other root folders I used to have on my phone, I just can't get titanium backup to run so i can't restore.
Thanks!

If you flash a new rom root is lost.
You have to root again.
S.R.
A few of the JB ROMS were causing issues with root. The fix was to re-flash the SU (superuser) apk and that would fix things right up. You should be able to find it doing a search.
Good luck and hope this helps!

Lets start with a few basic questions... dont mean to offend you, just wanna make sure its not something you may have overlooked.
What rom did you flash?
What, if anything, did you wioe in recovery?
Did you get a superuser or supersu prompt when titanium started?

Not necessarily so. Most custom roms are pre-rooted by the dev. Ive flashed countless roms and until recently w/ jb not had any issues w/ root access.

seems you've just lost root privileges,
just flash supeuser again and you will be fine...

it pretty much looks like this in TitBack, give or take a few letters: "[SMS/MMS/APN] Phone/Messaging...". when you tap on it, the pop-up recognizes it as "Phone/Messaging Storage". this is where your text messages are.
some 3rd-party MMS apps like GoSMS Pro can back up your messages too, and I believe there's also an app or two solely for backing up your messages to your sdcard/internal storage.
Titanium Batch restore fail
Hi all
Having a few problems, I'm new to flashing roms and the use of Titanium Backup and I've just flashed my second ROM. I've gone from CM9 to CM10. Before doing so I created a backup of apps + data.
I flashed the ROM fine, and ran the batch restore function in Titanium. I have all the icons on my homescreen from the previously installed apps but after clicking on them my phone tells me that app isn't installed. I then notice that my notification from Titanium's batch restore shows the apps I had downloaded from the play store failed to restore (the notification said that the elements failed after batch restore was complete).
I noticed that these apps have a line through them when the list of apps I want to restore appears.
Titanium then advised me that the apps did not restore as the Android ID had changed, So I then reverted to the previous android ID thinking this to be the solution. However, after running the restore function again, the same amount of elements failed to restore.
Due to my lack of knowledge in Titanium and my need for these apps, I turned to the play store and decided to manually redownload all the apps again. This does not work either! The error message I get is the apps cannot be downloaded due to an error (491). I guess this is to do with the android ID changing?
Please help, how can I get these apps to restore? and also how can I be able to download apps from the play store again? :crying:
EDIT: So I was able to reinstall the apps from the play store by wiping the dalvik + cache.
This still leaves me baffled as to why Titanium wasn't able to do this

Did you try to restore system apps? I always use tb w/ the pro key to restore user apps + data, and have been getting the changed android id lately, but whether I keep the new id or revert to the old one, my restore works. Depending on what ROM I'm going to or from, sometimes I have to change my home screen shortcuts for system apps.

I didn't select restore system apps, instead I selected restore all apps with data, failing that I tried restore missing apps + all system data.
What option should I normally be selecting to do a straight restore after flashing a ROM? Does the fact that there is a line through the apps that I'm trying to restore mean anything?
I always select "restore missing apps + data" it's the 1st option under restore in the batch menu. The apps with a line through them are the ones that tb recognizes as being backed up but not installed.

Question on Installing Roms and Switching Roms

I'm very new to ROMs, just recently Rooted and Unlocked Boot.
When installing or changing ROMs, does it completely wipe out your phone, so that you have to reinstall APPS, contacts, App datas... or does it just change the system files and retain everything else?
All the installation guides states to backup your files, which I understand, but is this because you have to restore all the apps, or is it just in case the installation corrupts everything.
You are always instructed to wipe data/factory reset in Clockwork Recovery (CWM) before installing the new ROM. This means that all of your USER data will indeed be deleted, which includes anything that wasn't already on the phone when you got it stock.
After you boot up the ROM, you can restore this data quite easily. Before changing ROMs, you should backup apps and app data (user apps only, don't backup/restore system apps) with Titanium Backup. The new ROM will automatically be rooted, so you can redownload Titanium Backup in the Play Store and use it to restore your old apps. If you get the paid version this is a very fast process.
As for contacts, these should already be linked to your Google account so they are restored as soon as you log back into your Google account (which is usually the first thing you do). You can also find all apps tied to your account under My Apps in Google Play and redownload that way if you don't want to use Titanium.

There is a how-to in the Android Development section that I followed, and it worked rather well.

[Q] Backup/Restore To New ROM

I'm not a big ROM tester and pretty much remain on stock. I do have root, custom recovery and unlocked bootloader on my GS3 (4.1.2 stock).
When you guys switch ROMs and a clean flash is required, what exactly are you all doing to backup and then restore your data?
Are you just backing up "all user apps" with Titanium and then immediately installing Titanium on the new ROM and restoring the backup?
What about system settings? You just run through those one at a time and set them to the way they were? What about custom contact ringtones and other customizations?
Sounds like a lot of work to me, but maybe I'm missing something.
Is there a better way to do this?
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm really trying to figure out how you guys are ok with doing a full wipe so frequently.
I am by no means a "constant ROM'er", but I have tried it a few times on a few different devices. Here is generally what I do:
1. Back up apps and data with Titanium Backup. I usually back these up to a folder on my external SD card just to be safe. Even though a factory reset shouldn't erase your backups on your internal memory, I just like to be safe.
2. After flashing a custom ROM I install TB as the very first app. ***HINT: If you have your phone setup to automatically restore apps thru Google, apps will automatically begin to download and install. This can slow down the whole process of restoring your apps and data. To keep this from happening, you can either disable the automatic restore OR don't sign in to google when you first set up the phone (that way google won't know which apps to begin to restore).
3. Run TB's restore apps & data BUT RESTORE SYSTEM APPS/DATA AT YOUR OWN RISK. In most cases from my own experiences and others, system apps and data do NOT restore well after flashing a new ROM.
Again, I am no expert and I simply follow the guides and advice of those much smarter and more experienced than I on these forums. Something I said above could be wrong so please correct me if anyone sees a fallacy.
I appreciate the reply. That's pretty much what I though. It's still a lot of work to tweak all the system settings back to the way they were. Ringtones, custom contact ringtones, various system settings, etc.

[Q] How do I backup all my apps & data before firmware upgrade?

My lenovo a3500 tablet informs me that there is a 4.4.2 update available, but also that it will format the whole device...
Can I backup all my installed apps, data and settings with a single application, and restore them back after the update?
Bro official firmware do not delete apps or data..... You can go on updating it

is it telling you that it will format the whole device!! In case yes, then you need backup. otherwise i don't think we lose data with official firmware update. but maybe with major updates, like 4.0.1 to 4.4.2 or likewise....
to backup whole device like firmware/rom etc.... device needs to be rooted and custom recovery installed to restore back to old version/settings. but for only apps backup there are applications with root and without root options. i'm not sure that they take apps data backup too or not. maybe some apps. most make backup of .apk installation file only i think.
sometime after update device lag or anything similar.... then what mostly is recommended first is "factory reset". so that sure delete some data from phone. for that one need to backup apps etc in case needed.... and i believe there are app for backups with root and without roots.
hope, it helped.

Cleanest ROM flash with minimum reconfiguration.

Hey, everytime I want to flash a new ROM or even new version of the same ROM,
I like to clear everything beforehand and factory reset my device.
The issue is everytime I do that I have to download all my apps again and configure the device all over again (apps & phone settings) .
I need some guide about backing up the maximum data possible (settings and applications) while still keeping the new flash as clean as possible.
I own Titanium paid version.
Thanks a lot!

The fact that u have titanium backup pro makes it so much easier backup all user apps only (backing up system apps/data will cause problems with new ROM) then flash new ROM, reinstall titanium backup, and go to restore then you can choose apps or apps+data
