I'm trying to help my mother revive her TF300T. She was running the stock 4.2.1 ROM and it was borderline unusable. Task switching was horrible and upon waking from sleep, when that worked, it would be several minutes before it would work smoothly - it definitely wouldn't work when background sync was going on. More often, once it went to into deep sleep, it would have to be manually rebooted since it would not wake. She also had an issue where the volume turns itself up.
I installed CM11 on there and much of the usability problems have been taken care of. It is much, much speedier. However, it appears it still will not wake from deep sleep, at least sometimes. The volume issue persists as well. The latter is probably a hardware issue. I'm wondering if the inability to wake is also a hardware problem. Any ideas?

I'm wondering if this is because of my device (HTC Titan) or because of WM6... all I know is that I never had this happen before!
Basically, I'll pull out my phone sometimes and find that its turned on by itself, and has been sitting with the dim idle backlight on.
I noticed it can be caused by several things but the 2 main ones I've seen is:
1) when the phone switches to/from roaming, it wakes up
2) when using A2DP controls (AVRCP), it wakes up.
I've been using workarounds to keep the backlight off for now (set the phone to roam only, or carrier-only, so it won't be switching in/out of roam, and use core player or just remember to toggle the screen off everytime I use a media AVRCP control), but there has got to be a better way to keep the darned screen off until I press power!
Anyone have any suggestions? This is really an unexpected annoyance as it eats up my battery quickly not knowing its on...
I had a similar issue with whenever I received an email and didnt shut off the device manually. What I eventually ended up doing was setting the device to automagically lock when it was powered off, and this seemed to solve the issue. I'm not sure however if this will fix it in your case because locking it may interfere with AVRCP controls working.
Had read a few suggestions for fixing this "sleep of death" issue on the G tabs... doesn't seem anyone has posted this
I've tried multiple ROMS, multiple apps like Regpon Wifi stay awake etc. and multiple GTabs...
The only thing that repeatedly seems to completely fix the not waking after sleep issue is an app called "Captivate Keep Alive"
Instead of tying wake to WiFi or CPU, it lets you tie it to battery %.
Try it, let me know if it works on your ROM.
Tested working 100% for Vegan 5.1.1 and CM 7 Harmony.
Tablet used to require boot after leaving it, now it will always wake up, after 1 hour, 20 hours, etc. Plugged in or not.
Completly agree. I tried all ROMs, and Kernals(up to .40). Nothing helps, but Captivate Keep Alive.
I had a similar, but not same issue. My WiFi would turn off completely when teh screen went blank. I could not ping it. Turns out that I had to update my kernel to pershoot's 2.something.39. That fixed it. I do find it every now and then totally unresponsive but pressing the power button patiently 3-4 times wakes it up. I'm running CM7.
App works
So glad I found this thread. I was having this same issue using TNT Lite and installed Captivate Keep Alive. I have been able to turn on from sleep without the reboot.
I am running Caulkins Rom 1.1 with Clemsyns kernel version 5. I was continually having problems with the tablet not waking from sleep. I have searched and read till I was blue in the face.
I decided to try the long tedious method to troubleshoot this. I did a complete wipe and reinstall without installing any other apps and lo and behold no problems with sleep. I then began installing my 30 or 40 apps one at a time to see if any of them would affect the wake from sleep as I had read on other threads.
The very first app I installed was Fancy Widget. I put the tablet to sleep waited about 10 minutes and it would not wake up without a reboot. So I uninstalled Fancy Widget and sure enough no problems.
Next I tried an app called Gizmo for streaming music from my home PC. It would play one or two songs and then stop and sure enough not wake from sleep. I then tried changing the setting to keep the wifi on at all times in settings. This did not help. I am now trying Wifi Keep Alive but that just quit also and had to reboot.
It appears with just the first two apps that I tried that the tablet is actually locking up when an app tries to access the wifi during sleep. It is not actually shutting down but rather just freezing as it continues to use battery and you have to do a long press on the power button to force a reboot.
Without these apps the sleep function works great. The streaming apps are kind of a pisser though since I would really like to listen to music.
Is there a way to disable sleep completely? Can anyone test out Fancy Widgets and see if it causes them the same problem?
Todd
I can second this wifi sleep theory. I haven't had any sleep of death issues since I changed the wifi sleep policy to "never". I honestly didn't connect it since I did so after flashing a new rom. But now that you say that, I'm remembering if I had Pandora playing when the screen shut off, I couldn't wake the screen up unless I reset it, but the music would continue playing until I rebooted. Maybe some other folks would be willing to set their wifi sleep to never and report back? I'm on Calkulins ROM btw.
EDIT: In case you aren't sure how to change this. Settings>wireless and networks>wifi settings>advanced settings>wifi sleep policy
After further testing here is what I have come up with.
Fancy Widget definitely causes a freeze.
Streaming music seems to only freeze when I am streaming to my bluetooth speaker. I have had Gizmo running for almost an hour now playing just through the Gtab speakers and it is fine. I even tried streaming to the bluetooth speaker with the screen set to never shut off and it completely froze the Gtab. I had to hard reboot with the power button.
So I am back to trying to troubleshoot bluetooth problems which I have had no success in doing. I have posted bluetooth questions a couple of times and gotten no responses.
Any bluetooth gurus out there?
Vegan 5.1.1 + Clemsyn's kernel v7 here. No sleep of death or anything. The gtab now runs incredibly fast.

Wooter here.
Clem's 7 fixed the sleep issue on my new gtab. Oh yeah, using you're (roebeet) TnT 4.3 mod (thanks), when did you release 4.4?
I have no sleep issues now except for the above mentioned. My battery life is awesome now as well.
I solved my streaming problem by buying a 6 foot 1/8 to 1/8 cord and plugging in my speaker. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying a wireless speaker but it works
Interesting. Not positive but I think my sleep issues started after I installed Fancy Widget. I'll uninstall and report back.
No Fancy Widget and so far so good.
Disclaimer: I searched the forums but couldn't find anything relevant.
Am I the only one whose tf700 acts really sluggish after it wakes up for a minute or two?
Is there any solution to this? It kills my main use case of the tablet (pick it up when I want to look at something in a pinch, and put it away when I'm done).
I'm on official ROM, rooter but not unlocked. This has been happening with the previous firmware versions as well.
I had the same problem for a while... most of the time I woke the tablet from sleep it'd be very sluggish.
I noticed that this happens when the wifi disconnected during sleep... it would have to reconnect and therefore all the services that required wifi would all start at the same time, throttling the system.
Turns out its the special setting in ASUS Customized Settings, "Disconnects network during sleep" that was causing this. It does exactly what it says, suspends network-related tasks when the screen goes off and resumes on screen on.
I initially turned this on because i was worried network tasks would drain my battery on sleep, but there doesn't really seem to be much of a performance difference with it on or off. So I'm leaving it off for now.

Hmm, I disabled that with the same battery concerns, but I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Also try a clean boot.
Hold down the volume down and power button when you power it on from cold. Let it go through the next screen without touching and it will clear cache automatically.
This does help as well anyway.
It's probably still quicker than most of us after we wake up..... Have you tried coffee?
Try turning off all bloatware. Mine used to be incredibly sluggish when waking up, and when I checked it turned on about 25-ish apps everytime i woke it up. Rubbish like Google Now, Talk, Gallery, etc. This slows the poor thing down to an insane level. Turned off all the random crap I would never use anyway, did a coldboot (sbdags describes the process up one post ^) and now it's instantly awake.
sorry, ive been looking around and I see in the Liquid Rom thread that it has a SOD problem. I looked around for a bit and i couldn't manage to find what it stands for. I think i might have it because sometimes when i turn my screen on, the touch response doesn't respond. I have to turn off my screen and turn it on again to make it work. I'm unsure if its a aosp problem cause i don't remember getting this problem in Sense
It stands for sleep of death, so it is a deep sleep problem.
Its not an AOSP problem, Ive never had it on Dark Jelly CM10 at least.
SOD stands for Sleep Of Death like the above poster said, and can result in a number of things.
The TF101 was plauged by SOD, and on that device sometimes the screen wouldnt turn on after a deep sleep. It also did random reboots during deep sleep and hanged at the boot sequence - draining the battery in no time at all. That was very frustrating.
A workaround for the TF was to use an app that woke the device up every now and then, so it didnt deep sleep for long periods of time. It drained the battery a bit faster, but it was quite ok.
Personally I worked around it by never letting wifi turn off - even during deep sleep, then set up some task that used wifi such as weather updates every 30min, msn, rss feeds etc.
Basically, SOD is commonly used when you wake a device up and it doesnt act as it should and forces you to reboot/remove battery/wait for battery to drain/etc
