You can change everything with it, so be careful. If you don't know what you're doing, I wouldn't do it.

I have my SR rooted and have a custom rom on. If I call up att and ask for an unlock code (been a member for over 8 years and have gotten pleanty before) will they be able to see I rooted my phone and prevent me the code?

First, I believe many ppl tried to call AT&T for an unlock code and got denied because they claim that this model skyrocket is specifically designed for at&t network only. (Probably an excuse to not give)
second, how would they find out that your rooted if they are either going to send it through a mail, e-mail, or over the phone?

They will not know you rooted just by imei. They are not giving codes either, try your luck and please update us! I spent 2.5 hours, 4 AT&T reps, no luck.

Hey....any update on the whole unlocking business? Kkiran, did you get the code from the site you said was have delays....?
i have been sitting with a locked SR for days now. no luck...
Btw, check out the T989 development thread for a post on unlocking the T989..there seems to be some activity happening there about the filesystem.
"I'm sorry but we are unable to get an unlock code for this phone at this time due to the at&t exclusivity aggreement with Samsung. It does not show a date at this time all it shows is that there is no eligible code. Sorry for any inconvenience." -at&t technical support, February 12th.

Get the code from here http://cellunlocker.net
Once you pay for that code pop in your tmo sim and turn the phone on. Enter the unlock code and you're good to go. Then flash a tmo radio from the t989 section. And I think you need to enter a T-Mobile apn. Not sure.

Rooting won't do anything. You have to pay. Use the link I posted on the last page.

there is a cheaper option which is unlocking by cable as also mentioned before.
Here is software to do it:

Kachman did it for 1/3 cost....
Thanks!!! Kachman!!!! :good:
I started rooting it but when I tried to take backup using ClockWorkMod Recoverry, I'm getting an error:
Can't mount /sdcard
I don't have a SD card. Can't I root if I don't have one?
Can I simply get out of it and it won't cause any damange to the phone?
Good thing i have att but I've never in my life had an android phone where I had to pay to unlock it that sucks

Call US cellular and have them run the IMEI to check it.
Unfortunately, as far as unlocking it and putting it on AT&T, I'm currently not seeing any unlocks for that to make it possible.

Honestly, after doing some searching... the people in this thread link below may be of the most help to you. Phone unlocking and flashing isn't my most knowledgeable subject... and according to the thread below, it's somehow possible to unlock this CDMA phone to a GSM network... which would include AT&T. So, I wish you good luck. And maybe someone more knowledgeable on this subject will answer you here.

According to the thread, you must be rooted and be on a 4.1.2 AOKP ROM for it to work.

My suggestion would be sell the us cellular one and get the one you need. You can unlock and flash but you will be limited to 3g data speeds. Your calling and texting should be ok.

And that's most likely what I will do/amd doing already, but in the mean time I would like to be able to use it. So I found and easy root methed and the phone is now rooted. because its cdma does it still need *unlocked* ?

Make a backup of the stock ROM to your internal and external memory if you have an SD card in it. Go to that thread link I provided you earlier and see if it works for you.
You'll have to flash a ROM such as the one the thread talks about to get the menu.

Ok so I did what was stated, I rooted and flashed AOKP 4.1.2 and then attempted the menu access code into dialer. it did nothing as before.

So I was able to get to the menu by doing this *#22745927, that allowed access to the other menu. but in that menuthe last option that I need to select is not there lol. dead end. I was looking at the other method but Im not sure I want to pay for those aps if they are yet another dead end.

Ahhh foook!! *228

Well I was having bad reception and figured I'd give the ol *228 a go. That apparently was a very bad idea as I'm reading. I'm stuck in 3G mode, everything I'm reading says get a new sim, but hoping maybe someone discovered another way that im not finding? If not off to verizon bright and early!
Which version of Android are you on? The more specific the better.

Glad that's all taken care of. For the future, if you want to update your PRL, pull the sim card for about 30 seconds. On a fresh boot, it will auto update if there is a newer PRL version available.

Galaxy Labs APK

Can someone pull and upload the galaxy_labs_apk. Thanks in advanced!
Right now I believe the only people who have the phone is the one guy in Finland and T-Mobile customers, and T-Mobile removed Labs.

I haven't seen it on my phone, then again I didn't really look. Let me see if I can find it and pull the apk for you.
Edit: There's definitely not Galaxy Labs on my T-Mobile S7E, what exactly does it contain? I'm assuming it's experimental features, or something similar. This is my first Samsung phone in years, so I haven't kept up with all of their stuff.
I would appreciate this as well. It's not available on Sprint either...

It's in the priv-app folder of that zip. So it probably won't install until without root. Maybe someone can make an update file to do in Stock recovery.

Do you, or does anyone know why some variants have it while others don't? I can confirm the T-Mobile one does not, so I would like to have experimental 'features' just to mess with in case I'm bored.

Tmobile probably disables it. Now that I know where it is ill ask the guy with the other version. It could probably be brought back with root either with an sql edit or putting it in priv-app.

To answer a couple questions without quoting - as far as I've seen, every stupid US carrier has disabled Labs for no reason. It's ridiculous. I'd love to get it back. Hopefully someone can find a way to install it.
