Beware http://odindownload.com/ - Other Tools & General Discussion

Went to this site to download ODIN and got completely shafted ended up installing a shed load of crapware which hijacked my browser and loaded my cpu with no warning whatsoever. Managed to do a system restore so hopefully I'm back on level pegging. Would really love to meet the [email protected]@hole who thought this was a good way to make money.

Yeah this [email protected] got me too, what a F*G (not that there's anything wrong with that). I think these are all his sites:
http://www.samsungodindownload.com/
http://odindownload.com/
probably more. I ran siteadvisor (no info), avgthreatlabs (no info), and virustotal (only a few hits for malware), and was surprised to see it not flagged as a dirty site. I rated it as malware on virustotal, but the other 2 sites would not allow me to flag it in any way, WTF?
Anyway, please be more careful than I was! Time to run MalwareBytes!

Thanks.
Thanks for Your Advice.. This is very Good Informations. very Useful Thinks you are sharing.

[Q] I thought I was ready

I thought I was ready for a tablet....... I'm still working on getting anti-virus loaded. CA has sold 2 two versions of their anti-virus and I still haven't gotten one to work. Does anyone out there have an anti-virus that will load without me talking for an hour to someone overseas???
Why would you need Anti-Virus on this thing? If you use everything as a regular user you shouldn't get infections. This isn't Windows
checkout Andtoid Antivirus probably all you need
check for dr web, but I agree not sure why you need an anti virus on android yet...
I needed one, got a virus downloading a game from a website. Corrupted most of my installed programs. I use Lookout now and only go to market related sites.

You probably should only D/L from the market! There is a lot of malicious code out there people created to deter people from downloading an app illegally to save a couple of dollars and lose all your data... just sayin
Did your tablet pop up with Charlie Sheen saying "Duh! WINNING!" lol
I thought all devices going onto the web needed it. I have a ton of stuff to learn. Thanks to all who offered assistance. I think I will look into what was offered. I have a teenager using a twin to mine. She's going off to college in the fall.
I too have resisted putting A/V on my tab & phone. Just more "bloat". As stated, stick to pretty safe places (Market) and you should be Ok, Right?
Well, just look at the most recent issue where malicious code made its way onto the market. Don't think that code in particular did any horrible things, but it just goes to show that the Market is not fully policed (I think that's a good thing, actually ... if I wanted the reverse, I'd have an iPad)....
I recently started using this:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/protect-your-android-with-lookout-mobile-security/
Since its an XDA member, I feel a little bit better about it.

Help With Lock and Protect Our Phones..IE *DroidDream*

So I have been looking around online just some basic stuff about privacy on the android phones and so forth.
I have also looked around the xda forums about Privacy and Protecting your ID or anything that you dont want to get out or w.e the case maybe so Im looking for some help and maybe this can help others about this if they wish to.
Well im looking for something that I can have the most protection toward viruses/malware/ID theft or any "stealth" like traces after uninstalling apps and anything that falls into that category. I have came across something called DroidDream Not sure if this is still going on in the world of android or some other form of it. But over all its something that the malware is designed to only run while the android phone is sleeping. Also talks about Once the Android smartphone is rooted, DroidDream searches for a specific package named "com.android.providers.downloadsmanager". If the package is not found, DroidDream silently installs a second malicious app without the user's knowledge. Other malicious apps can be installed in stealth from the DroidDream command and control servers I did find this info from pcworld site but thats some basic stuff..also it talks about the the update of gingerbread helped fixed that issue.
But like I said was looking for something that I can use or other members if they are not aware of such to help lock/protect their phones. I also did come across this link int he xda forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056&highlight=Privacy
Also check this out https://www.androidpolice.com/2011/...-and-carrieriq-in-a-new-class-action-lawsuit/
This app seems to be prefect for what im looking for or maybe anyone may have other ideas for something like this.
Thanks for all who reply and is helpful..
When I had a BlackBerry there were a ton of malware apps and I've only seen one or two for android. There was one that I used for a bit before rooting but ill have to get back to you on the name.
But definitely a good idea I always wondered after rooting if that made my phone more vunerable to "hacks" e.g. so if there were a safety feature like that I would definitely use it
I know one of the most popular used is locked out and norton, avg, kaspersky mobile and another one something like netQuin I think but I know when I had the avg and when I scan my phone it said I had a virus but then I try the lock out anti virus and it said I did not.so idk ..
HTC Inspire
NetQuij is the one I used for a few days. Not sure of how well it worjed but thats definitely the o.e I was thinking of
As long as you only install apps from a known good source you have almost no worries. The security is only as good as the hacker. In other words if the hacker what's in your phone bad enough the only way to stop him is to shut it off. Mainly when running a rom like MIUI that use root exploits like crazy.
The main time this happens is when people download pirated apps from servers in Europe and in that case then they deserve what they get. All the antivirus programs really are pointless and slow up the phone. So just be careful and never try to get paid apps for free and you will be fine.
As for the programs showing different results that is due to something being labled a virus and others not. Take the hack kit. Any virus program will remove parts on DL even though it is not a virus at all.

There is a link from that article that will tell you if you have it. Guess it doesn't really show up under the anti virus and from what i read the only way to really get rid of it is to backup your important stuff, format, and then call your ISP and have them give you a new dns
I already formatted due to the fact my old roommates psycho boyfriend had gotten into my computer thru our network and was copying all of my files and browsing my folders. Didn't have anything in it really except a whole bunch of expensive software iso files from the dreamspark school program. Didn't need him burning those off and trying to sell them when keys are attached to my school account. i get them free but i know those keys are monitored with the number of installs. so, i believe I'm good.

The FBI is not shutting them down to place fresh servers. They are shutting them down completely. For good. They shouldn't have kept them going in the first place. They should have let people's internet go down and then let the people deal with the problem. I forgot where I read it, but basically it is DNS servers that the FBI has kept on line after a bust. The virus set the internet connection to look for these servers on infected computers rather than the regular DNS servers assigned by your ISP. That way they virus makers had total control to send browsers where they wanted.

I have read so many articles about this since it's in my news and weather app and some saying antivirus enough, some say it's not because may have hit that too. Some day Google and Facebook have a way to detect and tell you if infected, some say gotta format, some don't. Guessing everyone will find out Monday huh?

I would think anti-virus is enough IF you are not already infected. Virus programs know what to look for now with this virus and should block it. I think when they are referring to anti-virus being hit is when the virus first hit. Virus programs didn't know about the virus and therefore could not protect against it. That is both referring to infecting your OS and damaging your virus protection.
That is the point of the test. See if you are affected. Then deal with it in the appropriate way.
This is a good time for people to take notice. Virus programs do NOT protect you against new viruses. (or is it virii) LOL. The updates you get daily are fixes for previously unknown viruses. Somebody got infected for the virus programmers to know the virus existed. Then they fix the program. You could be the next one to get infected.
Be careful where you goand what you run. Don't click links unless you know where they go. And then, it is still not 100%
I hate when people advise you not to run something unless you know the person it came from. That is no where near correct. That is where a lot of viruses come from. Don't run it if you were not expecting it from that person. If it looks fishy, call who sent it to you before running it or clicking the link.
Checking for the virus is as simple as going to this page: http://www.dns-ok.us/
If it's green, you're safe. If it's some other colour (my guess would be red), you have the virus and need to remove it.
Only about half a million computers have it (a tiny proportion of all internet connected computers), so the odds of having it are slim (although obviously some people DO have it), but it literally takes approximately one second to check, so just click the link I posted to make sure.
LOL. I just realized the mods are slacking.
What does this have to do with Android!!
Slackers.... LOL

I'm so freaking paranoid I don't open anything unless someone specifically said sending something or I searched for it. Even then I Google what it was with the words scam spyware malware with it. I've been hit pretty hard before and didn't like it one bit

Sadly there is not a decrypter for the cesar/cezar variants of the Dharma (CrySiS) family yet. Yours is an old post, so here is hoping that either you got your data back, or that, at the very least, the wounds have healed somewhat.
I just saw a post elsewhere on XDA, something to the effect of "I will port TWRP to your phone and root it for you, you don't pay until it is done!" My brain interpreted that as:
"I will encrypt your phone for you, you pay to get it back, and still probably won't!" I have no idea what the poster's gimmick actually was, but it likely wasn't on the level.
The thread is now deleted, because XDA has a very proactive mod team who don't stand for that kind of crap. But it seems to me that it might be even better if they left those threads up, and just post a canned reply warning users away from likely scams, then lock the thread. Seeing these scumbags operate in the real world is better than just explaining it.
Sorry, Seeing your reply very late!! ( Almost after a year ;P)

For Note : It was not cesar or cezar , It was CEZOR and this had a diffrent encryption.

Don't flash Arter leaker kernel. It bricked devices. 3 reports so far.

From Arter himself:
I already see couple of people reporting that they bricked their device from the "leak" Telegram group.
I assume many more accounting that some won't have a secondary device to use Telegram.
I don't know what to say to those using the leaked kernel other than that you played yourself.
While I never anticipated that this would actually happen, I did post a warning.
This "leaker" deliberately modified my kernel to brick the device.
With the attached screenshots, right one is the leaked kernel and the left is the one I released to my private Telegram group.
First screenshot:
The versioning string is different. My release tells you which exact Git HEAD commit was at the time of building. The "r20b6+" means that it's been built without CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO set.
Also, my build server's host name is "arter97-dgist". The leaked one is "arter97_dgist".
Second screenshot:
The highlighted part is the address of where execprog's data is located. It's different, which means that it's likely that the leaked one is built from source and not a binary modification.
The r20b6 includes some touch panel optimizations and removes the "[FTS][Error][IIC]: i2c_transfer" string in one of its commits. The leaked one still has that, which means it's not even r20b6.
Third screenshot:
The "leaker" actually wanted to brick devices. They injected a piece of code to execprog to wipe all internal UFS storage(including the bootloader) on January 29th 00:00 UTC time.
Forth/fifth screenshot:
Meanwhile, the admin there seems to be fine with it and says it's from a "trusted source" and keeps on posting Wolf of Wall Street memes with no context.
I hope this can be a wake up call to everyone: Always download stuffs from trusted and reliable sources.
Poco telegram channel statement:
On behalf of poco updates channel, this is a caution I make.
Since the past week or so, there have been people spamming a link to a channel with all the Arter97 leaks in the official group.
Though we do not support Arter97 making his kernel builds for poco in specific private, we do not endorse people leaking a developer's private work without permission in any means, it's not only unethical but very disrespectful.
It has come to notice today that the Arter97 kernel leaker has modified the build to clean UFS and bootloader partition, which basically bricks devices and makes them potentially permanently unusable. Many users have got their devices bricked already.
Always verify the source before flashing anything, stay safe.
TLDR; If you see any "Arter97 kernel leaked build", do not flash it.
@strongst sir please take care of this. Many users are repeatedly releasing the leaked kernel here specially @hbuilder
In general: do not flash anything from an untrusted source

Atleast 50 users have bricked their devices, maybe more. I hope this will set an example for others.

lol nothin like it, I've been an android users for more than 10yrs and I've never stuck with stock kernel for long. It's always custom rom and custom kernel for me which was also free thanks to great [email protected]
This is special case where users did not respect the dev or his work. Going free or paid its devs choice and ppl should respect that. It's not like we have shortage of quality free stuff anyway.
I do not sympthasize with users who bricked their devices, in a way a nice lesson is taught to them to not steal others work.
#This is what it all was (Got this from the telegram channel which leaked builds)
Well, after the end of a storm comes another storm. A bit of a clearance before we go off.
It was fun leaking that kernel but what was funnier and more amusing was fooling the present admins of that group and getting myself and my Chinese friend the admin right. God of Hell trusted me so badly, he didn't even question the builds, he didn't even question when I asked him to let Bai be the admin and asked him to let Bai leak builds immediately. He had plans of boosting his group to 400 members first but we had enough. It was time to play the trick. Such a fool
Our work with beryllium is complete. We've successfully achieved what we had targeted. But we got another news for you. Aside from the wipe, we had injected another code to send all the saved bits of the ufs to our server (Don't believe us? Ask arter and he'll let you know). I guess you understand what we want now.
P.S: the upload process started from the very moment you had flashed the kernel and continued the moments you had been connected to the internet.
It'd be £10 for the complete deletion of every bits sent to our server from your phone. £20 for the deletion and letting you get back your data. Sure we don't have everything depending on your internet connection, but there's still significant amount of data. Don't believe us? Good job you're not a retard after all but we'll let you have the advantage.
We'll let you receive your data first, and you'll have to pay us afterwards within 30 minutes. Beware, you must flash a kernel we'll provide and if the payment fails, you'll have the same outcome as before. We'll let you have remote access to our servers and allow you to delete stuff yourselves. You can do a complete wipe and flash some thing else afterwards
What if we wipe it even after you complete payment ?
Your call, let us know of the other options you have. All payment must be done with cryptocurrencies
You get served what you deserve ?
Our work with beryllium is done, please don't tag us unnecessarily as we don't have any link to the device nor want to keep any. It was a fine bait. This channel and all accessible Adolf Hitler accounts would be down within 72 hours. Farewell, if you want to contact us @adolfhitler69720 is the account
In case someone is going to pay the "ransom". Don't bother.
Best case scenario : They are bluffing.
Worst case scenario : They are not bluffing. But are you going to trust people who bricked devices ? And they don't have backup of the data they allegedly snitched ?

That's new level of gullibility.
If they use any "tool" to allow "access to their servers" , it could be a trojan. Which might be ransomware and/or RAT.
If used on personal computer ,it will cause at most a HDD format.
However if someone uses it on some sort of office computer , they can infect entire networks.
So yeah ,there is lot at stake.
There is no data to be shown.
Just a fast one being pulled by bunch of crooks.

Got it now...thanks..
this keeps getting better
Unfortunately this has the potential to scare some people away from device development....... people will now think if I develope something would someone assshat pinch my work and change it in a way to annoy others........I know now I'm rethinking my ideas........
Arter confirmed that there was no such code to transfer data to their server
Here's what he said -
If there was, he would have shown you the part where it's injected like what I did.
There's not a single http/www additional string within that binary, and since they used execprog to brick devices, they would have done the same to upload private data.
No such code were in execprog.

Do you realise the reality here before coming to that conclusion? If you flash a random zip from a random telegram group, what else can you expect? No one can modify any devs work and post here at XDA. The mods are super fast in dealing with such issues.
I know someone who today paid 13k INR ( $180) for getting his phone repaired at service centre cause of that kernel but he didn't had money to spend $2 for kernel patron. People were leeching his private kernel.zip and now getting the karma back.
It's quite simple: you should never flash any such kernels from random groups. XDA is trusted and will always be that way.
