Carrier Unlock - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I am s off and with kickdroid 5.2 ROM. Is that ROM carrier unlocked or do I still need to get an unlock code for my IMEI to use a foreign sim card with the phone?
Thanks in advance.

Carrier unlocking can't happen by simply flashing a ROM, it's taken care of at a different level. If you have the at&t model you'll need to buy an unlock code.

Thanks. Once I get the unlock code, do you think it can work with the kickdroid ROM or would I need to flash an official att ROM?

It should work on any Sense ROM.

Yes, the unlock code is a one-off deal that is independent of ROM - your phone is locked and awaiting the code or unlocked and nothing you can do ROM/Radio wise changes that.

[Q] Carrier (AT&T) Unlock Code Unsuccessful

I received an unlock code from AT&T for my One XL. The unlock code comes up as unsuccessful. I followed the unlock instructions exactly. And I've called back and verified that AT&T has the correct IMEI and double checked the unlock code. I've never had an issue unlocking a phone before.
I contacted HTC. They tell me to contact AT&T, as "they're the ones who have the unlock codes." AT&T tells me to contact HTC.
Would running CM 10 have any effect on my attempt to enter the carrier unlock?

Yes, SIM unlock codes only work on Sense ROMs, for some reason. Switch to a Sense ROM, and you should be able to unlock just fine. Then you can go back to CM10.

Do I have to go back to a stock ROM? Or just any Sense-based ROM from "HTC One X Android Development."
Would you know of a guide? I can't even recall which stock Rom I was running prior to unlocking the bootloader and going to CM10.
You don't even have a backup? Any sense rom is fine. They all have instructions that are easy for anyone to follow.

Restored a backup from 9/2. I forgot I even had it, as I didn't intend to go back to it. Unlock worked. Thanks all!
yupp sense ROM is the key

ATT sim lock problem

Actually have ATT A9(CID is BS-US001) with unlocked bootloader , root and s-off. after flashing unlocked ROM 1.57.617.52 still ask me for unlock code when i insert anouther sim. with ATT sim work properly. never see that before. Need your ideas. in getprop [gsm.network.type]: [Unknown]. so may be need to cnange gsm.version.baseband????
Thank in advise!
You have to get an unlock code from AT&T and unlock it yourself. Flashing a rom isn't going to sim unlock your phone.

There's no rom that unlocks your phone. Call att and request an unlock code.

i have an unlock code but...... the phone not accepted it. may be need brick it totally and then flash it. i am s-off.
Ahhh I thought you were trying to unlock the phone by flashing a rom lol. All you need to do is go back to any stock rom you want and then put the non ATT Sim in, use the unlock code, and then flash whatever other rom you want

What does bootloader unlocked or sim unlocked mean?

Unlocking bootloader is unlocking the part of software that controls what is allowed to boot on the device. If the bootloader is locked it will not allow anything other than stock firmware to boot, it will not allow custom ROMs to be flashed or booted. Bootloader has to be unlocked to use TWRP or custom ROMs.
SIM unlock is done so that the device can be used on another network.
"Unlocked phone" means different things, it depends on what part you're talking about being unlocked.

What's custom ROM or TWRP? "SIM unlock is done so that the device can be used on another network. " What does another network mean? another network = network in another country?

We encourage members to search for answers BEFORE asking, your question about "what is a custom ROM or TWRP" is easily answered with a very simple Google search if you type that exact question into the Google search bar.
Learn to search first, we don't spoonfeed and do all the thinking and searching for the members we help. You have to do most of the searching and reading for yourself.
Another network means a different cellular service provider than the one the device was originally used with. It can be used with a different provider in another country or with a different provider in the same country.

Use the instructions in this thread to convert to the European version, no need to unlock the bootloader if you don't want to/have to:
[GUIDE] Convert TMO to EU via MSM Tool, no SIM Unlock or Bootloader Unlock needed!
*** Use this at your very own risk. *** You will lose all data *** Backup your working modem and persist, just in case *** Read the entire post and follow the steps closely before asking for help. Post all error messages and steps you took...

Just follow the 7 steps. Super easy and takes just about 5 minutes from start to finish.
Good luck!

Yes, your warranty will be void but unless you're really rough physically with your phone, there's almost nothing you can do to it that the folks here at XDA can't fix!

If nothing else, you can always use a separate MSM tool and revert it back to the T-Mobile version. No harm, no foul.

I think I read something about using MSM tool to flash EU or GLOBAL firmware and not need to request unlock code (which voids warranty) because I can unlock boot loader on the spot.
Can I revert to T-Mobile firmware with locked boot loader just I case if I have to return it for warranty
Thank you very much

The link I provided will convert your T-Mobile version (KB2007) to the EU version (KB2003).
If you need to go back to the T-Mobile version, there is a separate MSM tool to do that, it will also relock the bootloader at the same time for warranty purposes.

Another question
Can I convert T mobile to global firmware directly or is there any special process?
Thanks
Use the link I sent you. That will convert it to the EU version. Setup your phone using just the defaults. Then download Oxygen Updater from the Play Store and within the app you can choose what version (Global, India, European) you want to install/upgrade to.
This is the link to the T-Mobile MSM Tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...l-to-restore-your-device-to-oxygenos.4180981/

T-Mobile to Global (USA) Firmware8t+ 5G
I just got my unlock stuff from OnePlus and I know there is a thread on here for converting but from what I see it is to go to EU firmware and has some other steps I assume that are for rooting. I don't want to root I just want to install the USA...

Flashing to a different firmware does not alter the SIM lock/unlock state. If your device is SIM locked to T-Mobile, it will remain SIM locked to T-Mobile after flashing to the Global, EU, or other regional firmware. T-Mobile devices can only be SIM unlocked on the T-Mobile firmware.

No. You can only SIM unlock the device on the T-Mobile firmware. Flashing to EU or Global only allows you to unlock the bootloader.

You need to meet the SIM Unlock requirements for T-Mobile to process the SIM Unlock for the device Then using the T-Mobile Unlocking app, go through the steps and select Permanent Unlock. If it completes, the device will restart and will work with any carrier SIM.

If T-Mobile doesn't want to unlock my device. There is no other path? I have tried a lot of times with a T-Mobile rep they say it wasn't purchased at T-Mobile directly. Please help?
Thanks
I think they are websites that supposedly unlock Sim or devices.
Any ideas on that?.
