I have CWM installed as a recovery and this works fine - im guessing you do too.
You need the 'Superuser' zip file put onto your moto g. You can just connect the moto g to your pc and send it to it this way. No need to push it with CMD or anything.
Get a file explorer from the play store and just check that the 'superuser' zip file has been copied across fine to your moto g - it should have.
Then boot into bootloader and choose recovery and CWM Recovery should be there on screen - choose to install zip from sd card and then you will have the superuser zip to install.
Install this and then reboot and you should be up and running.
Not the best guide sorry but its got the info you need!
I used;
http://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/22mimr/the_guide_to_rooting_the_motog_with_a_howto/
But at step 13 it didnt work for me so i manually found the superuser zip file and used my method to install from CWM Recovery
Here is the location of the Superuser zip ;

If u have already unlocked bootloader copy recovery n supersu zip file where adb files n fastboot r located
1-open cmd
2-type adb devices (u will get daemon successfully like that)
3-type fastboot flash recovery (recovery file name). zip
4-open recovery go to adb sideload n type adb sideload (supersu file name). zip
5-restart systsm

if you have an unlocked bootloader than go to developer options by tapping on build number 5 times which is in about and then turn on usb debugging and then enter fastboot on your phone and connect the usb cable. Download the adb drivers and place the cwm recorvery.img in that folder, then hold shift and right click on the folder you downloaded (adb drivers) and then type this in "fastboot flash recovery NAME OF RECOVERY.IMG and enter, it would flash the recovery, but dont exit the bootloader just yet, enter recovery by clicking volume down and volume up to enter and then reboot.

Never mind guys, got it working! after the via terminal, i just reflashed on Rom manager. Its ok now, i can get into CWM. Any idea why this would happen in the first place though? its odd.
you have to edit the official OTA zip file and remove it from there I'm working on it
Hey Guys So i was able to successfully unload my bootloader and root my phone via 2.20 root temp method. Now i've run into a wall where I seem to be following the directions, but can't seem to get it to work.
So after my phone was unlocked etc after the whole token thingy... (Sorry this is my first time since 3-4 years ago that i have rooted.. Last phone was a Droid X so excuse my ignorance).... Anyhow so my phone got reset and all and booted back and everything was fine and working.. Now according to the thread in order to flash a ROM of my choice i need to install some sort of Recovery tool. The instructions say to install TWRP-2.3.1.0-evita.img. I have put the .img on the same folder c:android that i have created where i have the adb, fastboot files. I open up a command prompt window and run the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.3.1.0-evita.img and it says "waiting for device" and get's stuck there and nothing happens.
According to the post it is supposed to install it and restart my phone automatically, however nothing happens. I am afraid if i reboot my phone and try again that my temp root will go away and will have to redo-everything all over again. Additionally I have tried the market place method where you download "Goomanager" and install the twrp img via menu>openrecoveryscript and choose to download, however i get an error when attempting to download. Can someone point me in the right direction. And will i lose temp root if i reboot my phone?
"Hey guys i just notice i did not run the "adb fastboot" command to tell my phone to reboot first prioer to trying to flash the twrip image. Sorry"

I just downloaded superuser and busybox. Also i downloaded root checker and when i click on check root it says my phone is NOT PROPERLY ROOTER. Can this be because of how HTC ONE X gets temp rooted and this app doesn't work properly? How can i check for sure if i'm rooted? I mean i can get into TWRP recovery and everything with no issues. Thanks.
I believe that because you did not download superuser before reboot. I think you lost root. Might want to try again.

So after i Ran the run.bat and did the entire cid and then token thingy from HTC site and unlocked my bootloader the phone rebooted on it's own.
I believe i need to install superuser via recovery or flash a rom first then install not sure.. the way the dev wrote this phrase is confusing to me.. Check it out...
10. After unlocking the bootloader, you can flash a custom recovery partition via fastboot, boot into recovery mode, and use a recovery ADB shell or install from an update.zip to install Superuser and su (I do not provide support for custom recoveries, but this is a straightforward process that other people can help with).
I mean every step form 1-9 all went successfully. Can you provide me with some tips ?
Oh OK. I get it. Give a sec I'll post what you need.

Thanks for helping me out, much appreciated. Also look's like i will need to find the superuser file somewhere online. I believe it needs to be inside a .zip. If i need that can you please provide that info on the instructions. Thank you so much for helping me.

So i did not download the CM recovery as i already had the TWRP recovery installed prior to my post. I put the superuser zip file in my CD Card then i adb reboot recovery within command prompt which brought me into the Team Win Recovery Project V2.3.1.0, I then selected install and choose the superuser zip file you linked me to download, however it fails with errors. Do you know what I am doing wrong?
I think this all has to happen before rebooting after the new root process. So CID, then flash recovery, load and flash superuser, then reboot. I'm not sure how others are getting it to stick. I'm rooted on 1.85 with both my HOX's

[Recovery][Unofficial]TWRP 2.7.0.0 & Clockwork Recovery Touch 6.0.4.4 W/loki (D800)
Clockwork recovery touch with Loki for AT&T LG G2 (D800) Only.
TWRP recovery touch with Loki for AT&T LG G2 (D800) Only.
The only difference between official recoveries and this version is that Loki is built in to recovery.
THIS IS ONLY FOR 10d FIRMWARE. IF YOU ARE ON 10o THEN DO NOT USE!!!
You may want to flash 10d firmware. It can be found HERE with instructions. If you plan on using ROMs it is best to flash 10d firmware first.
Install Methods
Flashable Zip - Must have TWRP or whatever custom recovery already installed.
Boot into recovery and flash Recovery Zip file.
Manual Method - With no custom recovery already installed.
Must have Root first. Check HERE for root
Download the zip file to which recovery you want
Extract zip file to C:\
Open command prompt in root of C drive
You will need adb installed and properly setup in your environment variables. If not place the recovery.img wherever your adb file is located.
Type the following commands:
Code:
adb push recovery.img /data/local/tmp/recovery.img
adb shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
dd if=/data/local/tmp/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
exit
exit
adb reboot recovery
Now you should be in recovery.

If you been flashing OEM modified ROMs on G2 the speed may have been due to the size of the ROMs.

You will not lose them until you delete them but I am not sure if you can restore twrp backups with clockwork.

Flashing was a breeze. Thanks.
Does this mount usb-otg? When I try "Mount USB Storage" nothing happens. I am pretty sure TWRP also does not yet support usb-otg. My hopes were CWM did.
Thanks
Adb side load is an alternative for Mount usb. Install Zip --> Install from adb sideload. Unfortunately this didn't work for me either. If it works for any of you guys please let me know the steps you followed. Sideload doesn't work in TWRP also.
In case of a soft brick either Mount usb or adb side load should help. Otherwise you have to go back to stock using Lg tools and start all over again.

i got a problem .. it's been 4 hours and could not solve it!!
i tried to root my device today
unlocked boot-loader " Done "
but could not root " install Supersu "
when i flash a CWM recovery .. could not move anything into my phone!
i pressed at " Usb mount storage " nothing happened
flashed too many versions
tried to flash TWCP .. it does not work at all!! when i wrote the command " Flash ...... " it makes the device reboot
then black screen!!!
any help ? i need it so hard
Thank u
Good news .. Finally i could flash the TWRP!
but still could not flash rom!
i could not also mount USB storage
can any one explain this step : " Select supers " how could i select something if it is not into my phone and i can't mount!
FLASH "SUPERSU.MOTOG.ZIP"
1) Wait for screen to time out
2) Awaken device with the power button
3) Tap "Install"
4) Select "supersu.motog.zip"
5) Swipe to install
Which TWRP version did you use? I found that only version TWRP2631 works for me. As to the SuperSU thing. I was in TWRP and up popped a message that SuperSU wasn't install and did I want to install it? I replied "yes" and it did it for me.

Only recovery works is ending name with test1 but when I'm in twrp recovery and flash super su phone goes in bootloop and stays on bootloader unlocked and warranty void message. Even I managed to put few ROMs on SD card but when i flash them recovery does not flash and finish process in two seconds. I have also used few versions of super su and have soft bricked my phone and now have flashed stock firmware few times via fast boot. Can you help me please to point which recovery version and super su will work? I have tried few threads stating worked but it did not work for me .Please help

Can you just boot the TWRP image? "fastboot boot recovery.img" (replace recovery.img with the latest TWRP image, r5 I think)
If that doesn't work, what is the status of your bootloader from the bootloader screen?
Thanks, I flashed the latest one r5 and it shows in fast boot it is written however when I'm going to recovery it does not bring recovery and only poor android photo comes up with nothing found like happens in stock recovery . Only r1 test recovery successfully load but it does not flash anything

But can you BOOT it? (not talking about flashing anything)
After you flash, ate you starting recovery immediately or rebooting first, because you can't reboot before starting it or it will be overwritten by stock.
I have restarted in boatloader and gone into twrp recovery r1 test version but after flashing super su it goes to boot loop

Also how can I start recovery after flashing it without restarting boatloader?

Hey
Are you using a compatible supersu zip for your phone? From where did you downloaded it?

Did you use the systemless method, where in the TWRP terminal you enter the echo command?

Latest recovery should be used (I think it was 3.0.2 r5). And you'll have to do the systemless install, unless you want bootloop. Also make a note of which recovery you flash/boot- Osprey is for Moto G 2015 and Merlin is for Moto G 2015 Turbo Edition.

Thanks
