I don't think you can anless you get back to stock with odin or CWM. But i maybe wrong.
Easiest and best way (if the rom you're on has an update file or "non-wipe") ................just flash it.
You'll be back to the way the rom originally is without any changes to data

huh? this doesn't make any sense. If u want custom roms but stock theme, I recommend u stick with romracer alien builds (both ics and gb), as well as anything by mhx (superlite 3.1 is gb, 5.1 is ics). They both tend to stay away from theming.
Seancreamz makes roms, and the whole point behind his are to have as close to aosp ics look as possible. if u want stock look, ur using the wrong rom
my bad, i read it wrong, i thought he meant reverting back to the roms stock look after flashing a theme
I am running stock jelly bean rom with air kernel and I want to get back to stock kernel. How would I do that?
Just flash your rom again, no wiping required

Ok so I just flash the last OTA update I had which was the 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 update?
This one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736645
No, you flash the full ROM. Not just the OTA update.
Where is the full jelly bean 4.1.1 rom? Sorry I couldnt find it.
And are you positive this process doesnt wipe that?
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Make sure to grab the correct one. Flash with fastboot. Obviously your bootloader has to be unlocked, which I imagine is already the case.
Nothing should be lost as long as you don't wipe data.
Ah so this is what I have to do?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572307
And yes my bootloader is unlocked.
Btw which kernel do you suppose is the closest to stock kernel? The reason why I want to do this is because I wanted to see just how does the stock kernel compare with air kernel but it seems like it isnt as simple a thing as I thought it would be to go back to stock kernel.
as i know there is no stock kernel standalone instalation package. So the only way to get back to stock kernel is to flash the whole ROM again.
For my purposes showed as the best kernel thalamus kernel.
Thanks for all the info guys. I have one more question just for future information purposes. Do you get an OTA update if you are on custom kernel?

I just re-uploaded the ROM with stock kernel on my thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881858
That will reset your kernel to stock. Sorry I don't have a separate kernel zip to flash.
If I install my compete ROM again (its Cyanogenmod), do I have to install the Gapps again too?

Hi all
I recently receive a 2nd i897, it's running fine but it's only a 2.2.1 (rooted and CWM installed already)
To get myself busy, I decide to upgrade it to 2.3
Here is some background from the setting page:
Model number: i9000
firmware version: 2.2.1
baseband version: i9000ugl2
build number: lidroid 1.9.3
And if i switch on my i897 from complete switch off state
I see "first" i9000 symbol, then i897 symbol
Because of this, i am not too sure what bootloader i am currently on.
My plan:
1.To flash this firmware from samfirmware - SGH-I897_I897UCKK4_UC_ATT (To get GB bootloader and clean 2.3.3)
2.To flash one of the GB kernels from http://www.semaphore.gr/downloads/captivate (To root and install CWM)
3. To flash my favorite GB custom rom
I wish to make sure if my plan is correct before going ahead
THX
Joe
It looks like u currently have an i9000 froyo rom and u have the i9000 froyo bootloaders.
I would suggest an upgrade to the GB 2.3.5 i897ucKK4 firmware with the Bootloaders and then flash KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A to get the CWM Recovery that is included with that kernel (u can flash the .tar version of this kernel through Odin...use the PDA slot). Then flash ur rom of choice through the cwm. There is no need to get Root before u flash a Dev Rom.

Thx 4-2ndtwin
It looks like my little plan is align with your reply.
One more question, can i flash semaphore kernel instead of Corn kernel?
Thx
U can...But if it is not a KK4 based kernel then it will not boot ur phone.
If u try to boot up it will more than likely bootloop. U can use the 3 button combo to get into its recovery though. And then flash ur rom from there.
I would say, go with Corn Kernel.

thx both of you
hi guys
things didn't go too well.
30 mins ago, I just flashed UCKK4
from this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357848)
Odin reported no errors, but now i have bootloop, I see at&t bootscreen
then a "3g" flying animation with white background.
Can someone guide me from here?
1. I think i need the proper way to get in recovery again
2. or to boot into download mode
Thx
Joe
don't worries guys
I have it solved
Cool. Glad u got it goin.

Have a friend I'm trying to help out, he flashed the ktweaker kernel and it's giving him fits, I'm trying to help him get back to a stock kernel. I have done a ton of searching, but I've come up empty looking for a a flashable zip file of a the stock kernel for the build he's running, vrbmd3.
Would really appreciate any help. Thanks!
So, failing the availability of a flashable stock kernel, would the best bet be to reflash an entire ROM?

Ok here is the thing i have few questions about rooting my device and flashing custom kernel.
1) I want to root my nexus 5 and yes i saw the tutorials its not my first time to root a device but its first time on n5 so if i root it and install custom recovery and keep stock rom and kernel will i be able to recive ota updates without any problems? Or if i just root it and keep the stock recovery will i be able to update?
2) And my second question will franco kernel work fine on stock rom? Because if my first question is not possible then i would flash franco kernel on my device too and later when an update for stock rom comes i would flas it manually of course if that is possible too?
Thanks for help.

No because you're rooted it won't accept the ota update due to modified software.

Just flash back the stock kernel and the stock recovery(if using it) and roll back any system changes u made.
