How to root without PC - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys
I always root my old devices without problems following your guides but.......
I've a problem connecting my tf300 to Win or Linux pc via USB; when i plug-in the cable it says "unkown device".
Obviously i tried to install many kind of drivers, asus sync or universal drivers without lucky.
My question: is there a way to root my device without pc? (or just in case do you have some proposal to solve my problem with unkown device on pc?)
Thank you so much in advance.

You can use framaroot to root it, it just installs an app to try rooting.

I already tried that app but unfortunately it doesn't work... it says that there isn't exploit in my system

have you tried vroot or kingo?

I tried both software but in both case my device is not recognized by pc... always "Unknown Device"

There might be something wrong with your tablet then. I used kingo to root mine just the other day.

Nah it'll be a drivers issue - it always is.

Give the naked drivers a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...nt/adb-fb-apx-driver-universal-naked-t2513339
They worked at my tablet flawlessly with kingo root.

towelroot maybe? it can root almost anything.

Towelroot just hangs and crashes my tablet on the latest firmware

[ROOT] Root Samsung Galaxy S4 with Motochopper

A recent root exploit I published for Motorola devices, Motochopper, should do the trick for rooting the Qualcomm-based variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4, including the AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile branded models.
Download the exploit here:
http://vulnfactory.org/public/motochopper.zip
Instructions:
Extract the entire contents of the zip file.
If you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Samsung USB drivers available for your phone.
Ensure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
Connect your device to your PC via USB.
If you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
Approve the ADB connection from your PC on your device.
Warning:
At this point, since there are no custom recoveries or stock images available, it may not be possible to repair your device should you accidentally break it. Please be aware of this before performing any modifications to your phone.
As always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!

You seem to be having issues getting ADB to start. Is USB debugging mode enabled on the device? Have you installed USB drivers for this device on your PC? What operating system are you using?

Sorry about that, just needed to update the version of ADB I was including. It should work fine now. Try downloading a fresh copy from the same link and trying again.
I've updated the instructions to mention that you will need to approve the ADB connection from your PC on the device.

Can a custom recovery now be installed using something like goo manager, or do we need unlocked bootloader for that?

Yes! Thank you! I was going to wait until a viable root method came along before picking up my AT&T S4...now I don't have to wait at all.
By the way, you may want to start another thread in the AT&T S4 forums. People over there may not come to this forum all that often.
my turn tonight cant wait....

[Q] TF700T (Android) and Win 8 OS Driver issue

I just received a replacement TF700T( Android 4.0.3). My previous one was rooted using Win 7. I want to root this before doing the firmware upgrades. I have a Win 8 laptop but, it will not recognize the tablet. When I connect the tablet, I get a message: The last USB Device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Trying to use device manager to install gives me errors which I now cannot reproduce.
I would not care so much about the drivers except I am trying to root using Debugfs automated root. I download the Asus USB drivers but, this is not doing anything on the Win 8 laptop. Asus's site does not seem to have a driver for this.
I've searched for another method that does not require an unlocked boot loader but, I cannot seem to find one. Is there a way to do this or at least get drivers that work on Win 8?
Thanks.

Try installing the android sdk from google as it contains generic USB drivers first and foremost.

Thanks for the suggestion.
It turns out the device was bad. Took it back to Best Buy and saw the same issue there. Swapped out and now the device connects to the computer. Now the issue is ASUS Android ADB Interface in device manager. I have installed the drivers via
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833212. Also went out to the Google site as you suggested. I see the explanation mark and attempts to manually update the driver gives me a message that the best drivers are already installed.
I'm so close. I just want to get this tablet rooted before running the updates. The ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface is OK. Strange.
Any ideas?

I don't quite get why you want to root before you do the updates. Backing up root and then restoring it works most of the time, but not always.
If I were you, I would upgrade and then root using the Motochopper tool, which works great on Jb 4.2

I've been able to use this method without issues since I got my original TF700. I was not aware of this method to root. I will try it tonight.

Try to root with another program, RootBurner_v0.2, google it. or just get it from https://sites.google.com/site/tabletpcdaytonohio/downloads.
Also, make sure tablet is connected to the PC thru USB2 port, not USB3.

That and don't use s USB 3 port.
As @aooga said, make sure you use a USB 2.0 port. If that doesn't fix it, try another USB cable.

Wasn't using toolkits, was following CF auto root method as described on various sources including youtube videos.
Could it be just as simple as using a USB 2.0 port? Seems trivial.

USB 3 is the killer of all this adb stuff especially on Windows 8+. Just use a USB 2.

Alright will try that. However just to let you know under the ADB devices command my device does show up listed and I am able to ADB pull apks off the device. Just this error message seems to come out of no where.

Yeah I know. This happened to a bunch of other people too. I see you already unlocked the bootloader, so I'm assuming you know what to do from here. (flash recovery and flash the root.zip)

We consider it a toolkit because it does things (a couple of them) for you. Now you run into issues and don't know what failed because it was doing hidden tasks.
The manual method besides doing the job, will teach you a thing or 2 or 3, plus will help you to troubleshoot simple things.

If you only unlock the BL/root the phone and don`t uninstall/replace system components you will still be able to receive and install OTA`s with the stock recovery. You`ll have to reroot afterwards though, but that only takes a minute.
