Tape for screen replacement - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Cracked the glass on my Photon Q, so I ordered the replacement screen a few minutes ago. From reading reviews it looks like you need a special adhesive tape. Searching online for PQ screen adhesive I've only found listings on eBay from China. Anyone know where I can buy this from a US seller? Don't want to wait weeks for tape to fix my phone.
Thanks

Guess it wasn't.. Well it's crap now. Replaced the digitizer then went test. Touch input worked but ear speaker didn't WTH. Took it all apart and made sure the ear speaker was properly mounted, went to test again... Touch and power isn't working WTF. Took it all apart, cleaned the digitizer and made sure all ribbons were snug... Same result!
So I gave up. I'll have to get a new Photon since there's no new qwerty androids or jolla phones.

Cracked screen

Man, screw eBay. I just looked and the lowest one was $650. You can get the whle new phone for $650 at Best Buy.

These guys might be able to do it, http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/
How did she break the Gorilla Glass ?!
the gorilla glass in the skyrocket is bad, you can find some videos about it in youtube
I ordered a new screen for $164 and replaced it myself. It's pretty easy to do

Sweet! Glad you got it fixed. I'll take that over warranty costs any day. Where did you get the screen from?
Got it from gounlock.com

its not gorilla glass is how she broke it...No where on Samsungs site or Cornings site do they say the skyrocket has it, and in fact i have contacted both and have gotten this response via email from samsung
“Thank you for your inquiry.
The Samsung Skyrocket (SGH-I727) does not feature the Gorilla glass. However, we assure you that all the components of the phone passed the Samsung quality assurance test and have been tested to withstand multiple different conditions”
So, Im hearing some people post on forums that the Digitizer is glued to the Glass and is separable, meaning the repair will cost way less than paying for a whole new digitizer + LCD + Glass assembly.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I have a nasty spider web break on my phone but can not afford to pay $160 when I paid $150 for the phone! (I know thats the contract price)

I don't think you can separate them and manage to reuse the circuitry, were talking less 1mm thick. I've replaced glass before, next time I'll probably send it to Sammy.

Replacing the glass is not too difficult if you know your way around computer hardware. What makes it a pain is how small all the connections and ribbon cable clasps are and ect.
Here's a link to a video tutorial on the Atrix to give you an idea of what you can expect. About an hour to replace.

I got a used S2 skyrocket off ebay. Only the outer glass is cracked.
I saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtiyU-RQUU0
Has anyone tried such a method and only changed the glass? (outer glass is cheap on ebay). Thx

Tried and failed... That is a nice video, but my understanding is that the Galaxy S II and III are different for repairs. The III you can replace just the top glass, but with the II it's easiest to replace the whole LCD and digitizer + glass. HTCs on the other hand have the top glass and digitizer as one replaceable unit.
I had this idea I could get the LCD lifted up and then use fishing line like floss to separate the glass and digitizer. But I didn't get that far. I didn't have enough heat and trying to remove the LCD, it busted. The OLED is like a brittle film and the adhesive used is crazy, so that method was doomed. I think if I had a different approach things might have gone better.
Now I have a worthless disassembled phone waiting on the prices of the whole LCD to come back down to sane levels. They were like $121,$131,$155, last check they're $200 on eBay. Makes me want to cuss!
I saw a video on YouTube where the top glass was busted open, not just cracked. I think it was a plain Galaxy S II. They used playing cards to dig in between the glass and digitizer layers. Then you clean off the digitizer and tape your new clean glass down and it would be fixed. I think if you could further break the top glass to pry it up and be able to dig in between the glass and the digitizer, that's how I would try to replace just the glass.
Ok, I dug in my web history and found the video I remembered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=judy-izOmKk
So in the video they had their screen/digitizer/glass removed from their phone chassis. I wouldn't go that far fearing you'd break the LCD. You may not have to do more than removing the battery before you get started.
Another thing the Skyrocket top glass needs this double sided clear tape. I presume this is because the digitizer is separate from the top glass and needs to be connected right to the glass instead of just held on with the double sided tape on the edges alone. I imagine that that could work if you pressed extra hard on your touches, but I don't know. I found this tape from EtradeSupply.com - they have a Youtube video I watched over and over. But shipping to the states is $15, adding to the expense.
Hope this helps anybody.
me too
I did the same thing. I got the old glass seperated with a hair dryer, but messed up some of the amoled screen and the glass was never fully flush after the reglue.
Super Annoying. :/ ending up buying the new screen kit on ebay for like 120. :/
Repair Follow-up
Yeah, I was able to get a new housing and screen assembly for my Skyrocket and all is well now. My phone is like new.
I did find some newer repair videos that use the playing card trick for removing just the cracked glass.
Samsung nexus glass repair i9250 part 1 - YouTube
Samsung nexus glass repair i9250 part 2 - YouTube
Samsung Nexus glass replacement follow up - YouTube
The quick version is that he says stick the phone in the freezer for a couple of minutes, because that will weaken the digitizer glue/tape. Then use your card to dig the glue out, pushing it out of the edge of the glass in a slow, lengthy process. He had success this way on a similar phone. I read elsewhere that Goo Gone cleaner could be used to remove any adhesive residue from the digitizer.
One thing I would worry about with this process is air bubbles in the new digitizer tape, since this other video has an industrial vacuum pressure machine as part of the final assembly process of the screens.
LCD and Digitizer touch the production workshop/Enterprise Solutions - YouTube
Related is an issue of dust, since a spec of lint or dust will cause an air bubble, as I just discovered applying a screen protector onto my Skyrocket.
So this little "$15" repair can add up with the digitizer adhesive and buying the Goo Gone and rubber gloves (which I didn't even use) and all of the rest. Just going for the new display comparatively is easy.

Replacing a shattered digitiser

I dropped my HTC Sensation today and the digitiser/glass part of the screen is broken! (Let this be a warning to all. Phone was in one of those gel cases and the drop was only about 50cm but onto concrete!)
I can confirm that the LCD screen is working. It's just the glass that is cracked!
a) Has anyone gone about replacing the screen themselves
and
b) Would this one do? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Touch-Gl...ccessories&hash=item35b66231d6#ht_2295wt_1174
I want to replace the screen myself as I reckon I'm pretty handy with this stuff and also it will only cost me $30 compared to a $120 quote I got.
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: I realise that this has been posted before but I'm looking for advice about the SPECIFIC eBay digitiser that I want to buy.
IT WORKED: Happy to say that while it was quite difficult to replace the digitiser, it worked! I ordered from "yallstock" off eBay and while they sent me one with "T-Mobile" branding, it still worked with my Australian phone!
Remember, if you fix it your self you pay only $30. And everything works...But if you fail, you'll end up losing much more than $120. So have a think through this. Better pay more and have 100% certainty that it will be fixed, rather than pay $30 and have a 50% chance at breaking or fixing your device.
Have a good day.
I did mine myself, it is pretty easy to do I thought, and is better than paying a shop £100 to do.
Here is the digitiser i got-

Did you have any difficulty with the bits where you have to use heat to get off the adhesive? And any difficulting in reapplying the adhesive tape? If not, then I may have a go. It's the adhesive bits which I am most worried about. And the bit where you have to push the screen out to slide the digitiser ribbon in...
If you did use adhesive tape, was it 3M 2mm tape? like this? http://goo.gl/LqP62
Thank you for the help you give in advance! I'm really sorry to bombard you with questions but I don't want to stuff anything up!
I never heated it up to get it off, I think because it was smashed it came off pretty easy. Be careful of the bottom part were the 4 capacitive buttons are, the bit that lights them up on mine was stuck to the old screen and could have broken as i pulled the old screen up.
I used 3m 1mm tape, which worked out ok.
I you are going to do it yourself, be careful and slow and methodical.
All I did for the cable is gently pushed the screen up a bit and pushed the new cable through the gap, it's a bit fiddly but doable.
I used this video as a guide-

[Q] Desire S Digitizer

Hi Guys
Does anyone know of a good ebay seller that supplies quality digitizers? I dropped my Desire S today and the glass cracked
Thanks
I purchased mine from the seller below and it works fine. Use the video on youtube for disassembly procedure and you will also need to replace the double sided 3M tape that secures the digitizer. If you use the same tape then you will get the issue with the screen lifting. I may have some tape left over so PM me if you want some.

I'm just searching for one and I want it glass made, if possible.

Rear Glass problems

Hi all!
Got a bit of a problem that's driving me insane!
Not having lick with my Z3's at the min, had one get smashed at the gym and a few weeks after I get my new one, my dad knocks it out of my hands and smashes the rear of the phone...
So, I have bought a new glass rear panel, only I have fitted two of these and they are both literally just fell off in less than a single day.
I have also bought the replacement from 2 different places.
latest one is from replacebase.
From what I can see, its because the actual rim that the glue sticks too on the phone is actually lower than some of the components in the phone itself!
Can anyone help me...
Am I missing something or what? is there suppose to be a separate layer that I may have pulled off when removing my old rear cover.
U need to buy a separate back cover adhesive. Did u buy it?
replacment parts will never be tough like original one.
Save your money and repair it at original sony center, it will cost more, but will last longer.
And be careful with phone. Good luck

I have actually purchased that this time, so hopefully it's this that I needed haha
Got my new back glass and the linked adhesive above, but I'm pretty sure that's just the exact same glue that comes on the glass.
I know for a fact that if I fit this rear glass again, it wont stick for long.
The rim that the glue sticks too is lower than some internals which will just flex the glass up and off the rim.
This is getting annoying now! haha
Did the adhesive work? I bought similar ones for the front and back and they are not working... Perhaps I'm going to buy 3M double sided tape

Display replacement

Unfortunately I crashed display on moto x play...so if anybody now trusted site to buy new one....tnx
Anyone found a display replacement that includes the front cover? Without it, it should be nearly impossible, am I right?
Gesendet von meinem XT1562 mit Tapatalk
I haven't seen any.
I tried combining the components and failed. Broke the circuitry in the LCD when trying to mount the frame...
I asked Motorola what i should do when i dropped my phone and the glas got broken. They told i should send it to their repair service, it was datrepair in Germany maybe its another in other countries. They Arranged everything for me and i paid 120€ for the replacement, just the glass maybe touch but idk, screen was ok when i was sending it in. They even took care of shipping without any cost for me.
Normaly i repair devices by myselfe but in fact the phone was only 1 Month old i refused to it.
If you have a heat gun (or hair dryer) and a set of torx screwdrivers, you should be able to fix it at home. If something is tight, never force it. Use plastic tools to pry open the case, usually comes together with the screwdriver set if you buy them online

For that, you would need the lcd including the frame which is nicht available yet...
So atm nearly impossible.
I managed to get some tiny cracks on the edge near the front camera (it fell onto metal from my jacket, i was bending over). Thankfully it's not the touch area, but i now somehow understand why so many people have cracked phones. It happens so quickly. And i was treating it like a raw eggshell, too.
I dropped mine as I was getting out of the car.It cost me R1500 (R is for South African Rand) to replace the screen. The guys who repaired it had to crack the plastic frame to get the screen out .They used glue to keep the new screen in place.I dont think they knew what they were doing, but it was the only repair center that was in the same province as me.

Yeah, please make a video it'll help many.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_yzMPWCQOM This video shows the whole process with a complete display assembly. Its incredibly more difficult if you get the screen without the frame as the screen is affixed to the frame with some sort of adhesive foam.
I also broke my screen and ordered a replacement. Unfortunately I broke the frame in the process of removing the old screen.
Luckily I got my hands on a replacement frame and some 3M 2 milimeters adhesive strips. Praying for everything to work out put together..

Best of luck, if you can document the process as there isn't much info out on screen replacements where you affix a new frame to a screen. My frame broke when I dropped my phone which is why I just got the whole unit. Cost me about $62 CAD shipped for the whole unit.
Has anyone here tried a replacement? Any tips?
So is it possible to change just the glass without the whole display unit?

So, I tried for myself with my old display after I got a replacement new display including a new frame.
It is absolutely impossible to separate the front glass from the digitizer and display without destroying all three.
I think even a professional wouldn't be able to do it. Display and digitizer are very flexible while the screen is glued really really good to them
I heated it up to no avail. Maybe some glue remover would have helped, but I don't think it would get between the glass and the digitizer.
These phones are just not build to be repared, they are build to be thrown away.
Exchanging the new frame including display was no easy job too, but it can be done.
Be sure to have a high quality Torx T3 screwdriver or bit, the cheap china ones will do nothing but destroy the tiny screws.
