Hey guys. I'm brand new to the One M8, I just got mine on Mother's Day cause of the sale they had. I upgraded from my beloved Galaxy Nexus, but this new phone is just fantastic.
So, with that being said, I put CM11 on it immediately and have been happy ever since.
However, I've been looking around at the other ROMs available and I wanted to know what ROMs are available with HTC Sense on them and what ROMs allow tweaks to Sense and other things, etc.
Basically, what are some good/notable ROMs that have HTC Sense baked into them? And what are the pros and cons of each? I just figured I'd give them a try, its been years since I've used an HTC phone (going all the way back to the DROID Incredible)
Thanks,
Jared

ROM's are always a matter of preference. Personally i like Viper ROM. It has a lot of options via Viper tweaks and also a lot of themes. It's definitely worth a try.

I had three HTCs, incredible, Rezound and DNA (going to get m8 next month) and I gotta say either clean ROM or viper (viperOne got ported to the DNA and it has all the features you would want, and has deSense options)

I've been using Android phones for about 2 years now, and my replacement G2 broke right before the 90 warranty. I got T-Mobile to give me a sensation for free luckily. Anyways, my experience with Android has always come down to this - fun to use, but never as responsive as other mobile OS's. Even rooted, my old Moto Cliq and G2 would lag. However, I just rooted and installed Android Revolution on my Sensation, and its ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! No lag AT ALL. I know for a lot of you this is normal, but because I am discovering this just now, it's honestly a milestone for me. I was so sure I was going to switch to WP8 once it was released, but no longer. THANK YOU SO MUCH ANDROID DEV COMMUNITY!
Welcome aboard !
Next step - ditching Sense
I disagree :L with sense 4.0 it should be a much better experience but I understand why u might want to ditch sense 3.x XD
BTW. Not starting an argument just saying

i felt exactly the way you feel now when i got my sensation, and the experience was improved even further when i switched to ICS AOSP(-style) ROMs... i really think android can compete with iOS in terms of ui responsiveness now (though i have never used an iphone 4s).
Welcome to the cool Sensation! Happy Flashing! : )
Honestly sense 4.0 has been a great experience so far. There's absolutely no lag right now. I think I will try the AOSP roms once all of the kinks are worked out.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
thats how exactly how i felt bro
Stay where you're at or go to Sense 3.6 ICS. Sense 4.0 isn't ready yet and whatever you do, do not install Sense 3.5 - laggy as all get out.
Next step use an AOSP ROM like CM9
same here.... but i bought my g2 on ebay already kinda scuffed up almost a year ago. something happened suddenly with my g2 (semi-bricked) and showed it to tmobile and gave me a choice of a replacement phone, sensation 4g or mytouch q. are you serious??? i chose the sensation of course....
Be sure to go over to dev site and thank mike1986. He and others have done an awesome job on this ROM/firmware.

Yup. Just follow instructions here to a T, and you'll be amazed at how much better the Sensation gets from stock. Made the jump from Blackberry last August, and only did so because Android has come this far.
Good on ya!
Well I got a Job and my Sensation XE seems like its old now, but I cant decide on a replacement, Ive got my eyes set on the S III, One X+, Nexus 4 or the HTC DROID DNA.
To me what i'm looking for is performance and which has a bigger ROM selection, any suggestions would be appreciated, I can wait for another month or 2 if anything new is coming out and the above are just what ive looked at so if there are better please let me know
Nexus 4 will have more development but most roms will be aosp based, so no sense or tw if you're into those. Its performance is slightly worse than the droid dna but better than every other phone.
HOWEVER, when there is a new version of android, you won't have to wait for anything. The devs will quickly update their roms and you will always have the latest android version first.
Droid DNA is great.! And you should consider xperia Z too. (best from Sony)
Or wait till s4
Life!
Hi,
I'm new to phone rooting, but I used a guide on this website to root my Boost Mobile HTC EVO Design 4g (not currently active on any carrier, so I'm not too worried about messing up carrier-related stuff). Anyway, I would like to Install a custom rom on it since I'm not a fan of HTC Sense 3.6. My Rom of choice would be PAC Rom, but I would settle for CyanogenMod, or anything else that's pretty good that any of you would recommend. Anyway, I've found these roms for HTC Evo, but not the Evo Design. Will a rom for the evo work on the Evo Design? I've also heard that the Hero S has the same support for roms as the evo design, but I'm not sure how much easier it will be to find roms for that. Basically, my question is, How can I get PAC Rom or CyanogenMod for the HTC Evo Design 4g?
Any/All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I hope This phone gets a lot more attention in the near future due to being the launch phone for Freedom Pop's FREE phone service.

Unfortunately, there is not much support for this phone. I have found support here for it : androidforums.com/evo-design-all-things-root. However, there seems to be one active dev and it is stuck on 4.0.3. Having said that, the ROMs there do work on this phone. The phone is already rooted with CWM 5 already on it. The Messaging app uses a custom version of CSIPSimple and is downloadable in the Play Store. I am currently on the ForgottenKingdom ROM (Kingdom is the phone's codename).
I thought it would be good to start a threat about kitkat anticipation and also when a ROM is spotted we would have a place to talk about it. A lot of people are porting the HTC one ROMs to the one x and there is some CM kitkat ROMs already on the HTC one. So maybe we can find someone to port it soon. Its already apparent that the sense versions are behind . the HTC one has 4.3 and sense 5.5.. Pure android seems like it will be the only way for new ROMs
I feel as though we should leave kitkat alone and mainly focus on the roms at hand, but I definately would not mind a nice piece of chocolate if you catch my drift

I'm not sure why you see that. There were at least 2 or 3 devs that ported Sense 5 over from the M7 to the EVITA (before HTC released Sense 5 for us officially). As long as there is interest by devs, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same again for KitKat and Sense 5.5. True, the hardware hurdles will be an issue. But AOSP ROMs will experience their share, as well.

Team Venom has released the Viper ROM for the HTC One. They released ViperXL for ours. Seems like they have all the necessary talent and tools to put together a new ViperXL release with 4.3/Sense5.5
I am pretty sure Kit Kat is going to be a while. It would be really cool to get a 4.3 Rom good enough to be a daily driver. They are getting there. We still have a healthy Dev community.
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk
As far as 4.3 being a daily driver, I'm running PAC 4.3.1 with touched 6.1 kernel with no problems, I use it as a daily driver. I've been on 4.3 maybe a month with little to no problems. So I think 4.4 is looking good for our phones
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
While you're having success with that ROM there have been several problems plaguing 4.3 ROMs, that's what's being referred to.

Well here's the first kitkat rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535315
Also saw in some other thread a screenshot of Evita running CM11 (H8's screenshot, I think), so yeah. :good:
4.4 Kit-Kat is officially coming to The HTC One in January of 2014 So hopefully we see a nice port come to our One X/L
Unfortunately it's pretty difficult to port from the One due to the different chipsets and resolution, it just doesn't work properly. A port would need to come from a similar device, like maybe the One Mini.

HTC releases their updates on time. Blame your carrier for the delays

I've read in many places that Evita is going to get even an Android 5 update, so "Why so disappointed?"...
After all, it has been a flagship phone for several months and is still a powerful one in the markets
I seriously doubt this phone will ever get Android 5.0 as an official update, I'd put money on it. I'm not sure where you read that but it's highly unlikely. We're probably not even going to officially see 4.3 or 4.4.

I'm fairly certain that the Evita is done for updates. Also, HTC has a horrendous record of keeping their promises when it comes to release dates. Remember that update we were supposed to get at the end of November? Remember how it wasn't released until march nearly 5 months later? I do. That's when I rooted my phone.

That was the carriers fault. Adding all that bloatwear takes time dontcha-know.
And I was talking about a Port from the One by our devs here to the One X.

No we are supposedly getting a Sense 5 Update (Android 4.2 from Android 4.1.1 I think) But AT&T won't get it till next November probably
You're not quite right about that. HTC push their own non-carrier updates to their non branded/Asian models and they do have a terrible record of keeping promises and getting them out on time, if at all.

Hey guys I have the international version but both versions seem to be abandoned by HTC but there is a glimmer of hope as Google want 4.4 pushing out to all devices capable of running it so hopefully HTC will update all the one series phones eventually.
Google can't even get their own nexus (galaxy) updated. What makes you think they can make HTC do it. This phone won't get any more updates. The next HTC one will be out soon and all focus will go for that.

All of the kitkat roms are pretty darn smooth. I had some SD card/signal loss/reboot problems on shoredroid so I moved to the CM 11 nightlies. Latest nightly working perfectly so far *crosses fingers*
So I had planned to stick with my old d2vzw (Verizon S3) through next year, but I think it just physically died on me. So I may need to upgrade way, way sooner.
The M8, I believe is the only phone on Verizon currently capable of flashing AOSP based ROMs. Can anyone chime in with how development is?
I've seen Liquid (my fav) and a GPE port are on this forum, but I don't see anything else. How is the ROM selection overall?
I can't leave Verizon, not an option. I hate them so ****ing much.
I am loving the GPE rom. Haven't had any issues at all.
There's a lot more roms available than just the ones you see on the VZW M8 forum. Check out the development forums on the regular M8 forum. Most of them work on Verizon but you need to read to make sure a given rom works on Verizon phones.

M8 is not the only vz phone that has AOSP ROMs available, G2, Moto X for an example. just have to look.
I've always been partial to CM myself. Love the M8, by far the best phone ever IMHO. I've used gpe port and viper but keep going back to cm.
If you want to get into development, I've never seen any project as well documented as cm. Their wiki can take any noob and have them building from source in just a couple hours.
