[Need Help] Cheap Way to Buy Phones in US - Unlocked - General Questions and Answers

Will be traveling to US in a month time. Looking to get an unlocked GSM phone at low price. Will be using it only in India.
In some forum people had suggested to get the esn blocked phones, please let me know whether it would work in India? If i get it unlocked ! hope esn blocked are not stolen phones !
Please suggest ! i had just lost my brand new S3, hence looking for a decent phone at a low price (Refurbished \ Used is ok)

Look like a Nexus device is what you need, check this out https://play.google.com/store/devices
The device is sold by Google so it is safe, and it comes with unlocked so I think it might work in India. Good luck and welcome to America

Make sure whoever buys it for you in the States, activates it and asks Verizon to unlock it! You may have serious trouble unlocking it otherwise! Please review the threads here asap.
Hopefully you got it from retail Verizon store and not from Best Buy or something. If you already got the phone, see if unlock code you can purchase online works. PM me if you want to know sources known to provide working (if you are lucky of course) unlock codes. Depends on your case, online unlock code may or may not work. We do not know yet what is exactly the issue with unlocking, all we know is phones purchased from Best Buy unactivated do not accept unlock codes (If somebody can prove me wrong - please chime in!!). So far confirmed is unlocking works for the very first batch of phones (sold before non-Verizon stores picked up the phone) and for phones which were activated abd used on Verizon network.

[Q] Unlockability and use of Anrdoid phones

I'm in a bit of a situation. I live in Canada. I leave to the US and Poland in about 17 hours on a two month trip. I have spent the better part of two weeks trying to unlock my iPhone to no avail. I now need a phone. I have turned to my city's classified adds where there are several android phones for sale. My issue is this: I am fast approaching the point at which I will no longer be able to meet someone to buy a phone today, but I don't know what I need.
I am aware that the answer to my question is out there on the intersphere and forunets, but I'm not confident that I'll be confident enough to buy a $250 phone at the end of my research. Therefore, I'm turning to to forums to see if someone knowledgeable can quickly answer my questions so that I'll be able to run out and buy a phone right now.
The phones on the classifieds that I'm looking at are:
A Galaxy S2 on contract with Bell Mobility (Canada) - $350
A Galaxy S 4G factory unlocked - $280
An unlocked and rooted Nexus S - $300
HTC Desire broken proximity detector - $100
Nokia Lumia 710 - $200
HTC Wildfire S unlocked - $220
My questions:
Is the phone unlockable?
Will it work with a pre-paid SIM in the US? (which carriers, if known)
Will it work in Poland, France and Italy?
I'm computer savvy but sadly my knowledge is deficient in this area. If anyone can answer these questions, it would be much appreciated.
Get an unlocked phone
You said you need an unlocked one, You also said "A Galaxy S 4G factory unlocked - $280" why don't you just buy that then it will work with any sim, then just get an pay as you go sim with 3g for your trip?
Or if you want to unlock your iPhone, Jailbreak it then do this (youtube.com/watch?v=mB_L5gi94Cc) it might work.

My question is whether an 'unlocked' Galaxy S will work in both the US and Europe with a pay as you go SIM that I buy?
I would say yes it would, if it is unlocked, it should be unlocked to any network anywhere, i may be wrong, but i would think it should work for you
The S2 and the S should work, but I'll let others confirm that. I believe that both have Sim card slots.

[Q] Question About BAD IMEI,BAD ESN

i'm new in the forum and i have two questions as i know here the people know a lot about these topics.
i got my smartphone stolen 2 weeks ago, i live in mexico and i use TELCEL (GSM carrier)
in my country the smartphones are really overpriced like $913 US dollars for one samsung galaxy S4
browsing on ebay i saw a lot of BAD IMEI and BAD ESN(i know they are maybe stolen,blacklisted...) smartphones very cheap compared to the retail stores in my country
obviously i would only buy one smartphone that could be use on one GSM carrier.
1.if i buy one smartphone unlocked with bad imei or bad esn could i use it?
2.if i buy one smartphone locked with bad imei or bad esn ,could i do something to unlock it(like to pay for one unlock code, flash it) and use it?
thanx .

[Q] what to buy..,where to buy it?

okay so i live in egypt and that means moto g isn't sold around here so my uncle is going to travel all the way to both turkey and china this summer
.......i am looking forward to buying a moto g because i don't have alot of money on me and according to three weeks of research this is the best phone at this price point
so here are a few questions:
1.is moto g (non specific model) sold in either of china or turkey?....and where would it be sold?
2.which model of moto g is recommended? (xt-032-33..etc.)
3.would that model come factory unlocked? or would i atleast find one if i'm looking for an unlocked version?
(because like i said i want to use this in egypt as i live there)
4.would there also be any other phone suggestions that are similar in specs and price?
5.how much money would i expect to really pay?
please answer me i needed to ask those questions to the people who actually own this phone (btw i'm not a technology noob i know all about how to unlock bootloader, root , install recovery and custom firmware)
Regarding your questions:
1. Yes Moto G is available in both China (now) and Turkey. (a simple internet search would have answered that)
2. It all depends on your usage of the phone. Be aware that XT1033 is a dual SIM phone and while two is always better than one, you might face some difficulty finding ROMs and Mods specific to the dual SIM version. So you might want to consider that before you decide on the 1033 model. As of now, I don't see many ROMs or Mods compatible with this model. So you'll have to think if you want to tinker with your phone when you get it or just use it with the factory configuration.
I would also like to point out that there is a Mod/method available to change your dual SIM phone as if it was a single SIM variant. However, I don't see why anyone would want to do that in the first place. Maybe for a life-saving ROM upgrade or just because it can be done.
3. The retailer will be able to advise if the phone he/she/it is selling is unlocked or not. - this if you are asking for N/W unlocked.
As for bootloader unlocked, motorola's website if you help you to get the unlock codes specific to your device.
4. This phone, imo, is gonna be your best bet for this price:specs ratio. And trust me, this phone is nearly perfect for this price bracket.
5. A quick internet search again, tells that you will be looking to shed around 1200 EGP if buying from Turkey and around 1400 EGP if from China.
But these rates, in reality, might be completely different as what happens with most Asian markets!

[Completed] T-Mobile Blocked my IMEI on used phone

Hi Im new here and needed some clarification regarding an issue with my IMEI on my T mobile Note 2. I bought it used back in June off of a facebook buy and sell group to fix it up and sell it. At the time I bought it, it had a clean IMEI, and the people who sold me the phone told me they were the original owners. a few weeks ago, I again checked the imei, and it was still clean.
Now Im about to sell the phone, but I check one more time and now its blacklisted on T mobile and Metro, but clean on ATT and Verizon according ti imeidata.net. I check tmobiles website and it says its been reported lost. Im going to try to contact the people who sold it to me, and if they wont help me, Ill be contacting Tmobile and Asurion. After doing some research about what else I can do, Ive came up with a few options, but I still need some advice.
1. Sell as is and cut my losses
2. Sell on ebay to someone outside of US
3. Sell for parts
If I sell it to someone outside the country, how do I know it will work wherever the buyer is? I have no intention if screwing anyone over and want to make sure they get what they pay for.
How can I protect myself from this happening in the future? Is there a way to get the IMEI numbers of future phones signed over to my name, even if Im not a customer of that phones carrier?
Also, if imeidata.net says its only blacklisted on Tmobile/metro, can it be used on other American networks?
I really appreciate any help with this. Thanks.
One more thing I forgot to mention...when I bought it, it was running android 4.1.2. I downgraded it to 4.1.1 to unlock it and its still running 4.1.1 incase the unlock procedure didnt work and I need to try again. Not sure if this is relevant to the imei issue but Im just putting it out there.
Hi,
If it's blocked, it's blocked. No one can help you with that legally. Sorry.
Whether it works in other carriers.... I would doubt it. Usually blacklists are across all carriers in North America.
And as far as protecting yourself in the future, you can't really. Buying a used phone is always going to be a gamble. Nothing you can do about that except try to buy from a reputable source or individual.
Good luck!
