Hello,
Ive got a quick few questions.
My headunit was recently stolen from my car, and Im considering replacing with a tablet, possibly a google nexus 7 or any other seven inch tablet.
My current phone is an LG optimus pro.
I want to be able to buy a wifi tablet, and stream everything from my phone to it. Pandora, gps, and so on.
The easiest way would be to tether, but I bave unlimited data on att and would prefer not to lose it.
Can anyone highlight any methods for either remote viewing the phone on the tablet, hiding the stream from att, or any other method.
Im not opposed to setting up a wireless local network in the vehicle if it would allow me to simply stream audio on the tablet, and use the gps.

I took a 12 hour road trip last week and I had just finished installing my setup to dock and un-dock my Galaxy Tab 7" into my dash for MP3's and GPS nav, now I only have a 1GB plan so I wanted to use my phone's internet for the drive however I could not get the tablet to connect, eventually I figured out that it was related to bluetooth & wifi tether at once, whichever one I try to connect 2nd won't work, so if the phone is connected to my headunit for hands free then I can't connect to wifi tether and if I have the tablet connected to tether first the bluetooth won't connect, does anyone know what would cause that and if there's a way to fix it? I am used the stock ROM rooted.
Is it possible to have a Local WiFi Hotspot? I have a Galaxy S5 with Verizon. Ever since I upgraded I have been struggling on a 6gb data plan. I own an iPad and an Apple TV and wanted to do wireless airplay for presentations. Of course Apple TV requires a WiFi connection to airplay so I was wondering if there was a way to make a local wifi hotspot on a device without using the internet? It would be like having a wireless router that isn't plugged into a modem. I have never seen this brought up before so I figured I might as well see if it is even possible. What do you guys think?Am I crazy for wanting a local hotspot or does this peak anyone interest to explore?

is is possible to have the hotspot running on the phone and data turned off, but i dont know what effect that would have on other transfers through the wifi.
only reason i know this is because i just started using ds battery saver app the other day, and i use the hotspot on my phone a lot. i have it set to turn off mobile data when the phone is off, well this poses a problem as the hotspot is still broadcasting but i have no internet connection. fortunately the developer had already thought of this (for streaming music etc, same issue) and put an adjustable bandwidth sensor on the app, so it wont cut off data when the screen turns off is there is a certain amount of transfer present.
i kinda went a little off your topic, but i thought it relevant to explain how i know it is possible for the nay sayers.

I just tried it out and I can get the hotspot to activate with data on and then go turn data off and it won't automatically turn off my hotspot. I will have to try it with the Apple TV in a few days and see how well it works.
My Dad wants to be able to tether his tablet to his phone using BT or Wi-Fi (BT is probably better as it uses less battery I think), so that when he's in the car he can use the phone's mobile data to get traffic updates for his SatNav apps on the tablet, which doesn't support mobile data.
I believe that tethering is frowned on by mobile providers but could I use a VPN or Tor (Orbot) to encrypt all the data traffic from the phone, so that the provider can't tell if it's originating from the phone itself or a tethered device?
Both devices run AfWall+, so what service/app on each device would I need to create rules for? I don't think AfWall+ has any options for managing BT access, only LAN, WiFi, Data (on devices that support that) and VPN.
The tablet is a Sero 7 Pro running 4.2.1 and the phone is a Huawei G300 running Gingerbread, although I'm trying to persuade my Dad to buy a Moto G 2014 DS like mine, as he does need to use two SIMs.
On my Lenovo S8-50 tablet, when I pair it to my phone it has a tickbox for "Use this connection for Internet" but if I pair it to my Moto G it just unticks itself when I try and enable it. The Sero 7 Pro doesn't even have this option, so I can't try it on that.

Background: I had some trouble setting up my chromecast because we canceled our wifi service; we do have a wifi router, and the chromecast refused to be setup without internet. I finally got it set up on my hotspot, I had to use another old phone with the Google Home app while connected to my Note 8 hotspot. The Chromecast is now setup, connected to my hotspot, but I can't cast anything from Youtube, Allcast, etc from my Note 8 over its own Wifi Hotspot.
I have an apple tv that won't do this either. I really want to use the Chromecast to watch movies and streaming content from my phone (via Allcast or something similar).
Does anyone have any ideas, or real world solutions for using the Chromecast with the Note 8 WiFi hotspot?
I tried this once when my internet service went out while I was watching a hockey game. I never could get it to work either. I tried everything I could think of. I tried using another phone as well. I'm guessing it's not possible to stream to Chromecast from the same device that the internet signal originates. Seems like you could stream to it from the other phone, though.
But the real question would is... You realize even if you could get it to work, it's gonna eat through your mobile data ridiculously fast, right?
Good luck. If you get it working, I'd love to see what you did.
Yeah, I get that it will eat it up pretty fast. I have 10GB included with my phone, same with the wife's phone. I just hate not being able to do something that should be a thing. I guess I can use the other phone to cast through the wifi hotspot from the Note 8.
I wish there were a way to do USB tethering to my router... that would just be too easy...
Hello,
I have a strange situation, I have a galaxy s21 ultra and tab s7+. What I would like to do is essentially use my cell phones internet to watch video on my tablet. My mobile plan does not allow my phone to be a hotspot, so that is out of the question.
So, is there a way to cast video watched on a phone to a tablet? Or something along those lines? In this instance I have no wifi at all.
Via Bluetooth. Requires wireless network is set to Bluetooth on both your devices.
