Firewater doesn't DO Anything - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I'm using a new out of the box Verizon HTC One M8, Android v4.4.2, software version 1.12.605.11, Sense v6.0. I've managed to get root with WeakSauce easily enough. But I have to wait about 30 seconds after reboot for root to return after doing adb reboot from the Firewater instructions.
Once root returns, which is always does, I try running firewater and it just drops back to the command line, does nothing at all.
Any ideas? I could really use some help!

Yes I got the same thing

There is nothing about Windows that adds any magic to the process. If anything, dealing with drivers adds another level of complexity. I have used Firewater S-off from Linux with no issues.

Thanks - that's the guide I followed and eventually got it all working
the weird thing on the mac is firewater downloads as a generic document instead of a unix executable file - once I changed that it worked correctly

Firewater won't work no matter what version you use. It was server dependant and that server has been taken down. Sunshine or a Java card are the only options now. If you're on lollipop, the Java card is the only option you have at this time.

[Q] How to run Revolutionary.exe on Linux for rooting Sensation?

Ok I'm new here and have zero knowledge about anything Android-hacking. Following ikhzter's guide I get a roadblock everytime at the point of waiting for fastboot on xp sp3 on my macbook pro via vmware.
This is how it goes-
Zerging Root... this may take a minute or so..
Sending in Caroline...
Cleaning up...
Rebooting to fastboot...
Whien life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take back the lemons
Waiting for fastboot...
Rebooting to fastboot (again)...
Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try Again.
Press (almost) any key to exit.
Now on trying the alternative, linux which is a bit too alien to me I can't even get the Revolutionary.exe to run (open) on it. Help!
It does that in Windows, just reboot the phone and run it again. After 3 times it'll say it's done and ask if you wanna install CWM
As for the .EXE not running in Linux, that's cause it's a Windows .EXE - there's the Linux version on the Revo website
Having said all that, if you don't know what you're doing then you shouldn't really be trying it anyway
Thanks but I'm pretty sure I got the Linux version. And ultimately I want to flash the Android Revolution HD custom ROM. So I know what I'm doing.

Also, when it lost communication I tried again and it worked despite loosing communication.

Having said that... I'll go into detail so as not to be considered flaming.
Choose an OS and choose your method. I'd suggest you step back from your current testing and abandon it all.
Using VMWare Fusion boot into, or install if you have not yet already, your Linux guest OS
Using your guest OS browser, navigate to revolutionary and download the Linux package.
Navigate to your download directory within a linux terminal -- most likely : cd ~/Download
Sometimes in Ubuntu, maybe other distros as well, to protect your machine the browser will not keep the executable permissions of the file you download. To be certain chmod 777 revolutionary
./revolutionary
That's no help at all but thanks anyway. To be clear, I've downloaded a made-to-run-on-Linux revolutionary file on the Linux OS that I installed through VMWare. Completely fails to understand why anyone would rather think of the absurd.

I ran into this, MAKE SURE YOUR ENTERING THE CORRECT SERIAL NUMBER, not the imei or whatever. Then with correct serial number go threw the process and see what happens. Revolutionary will recognize your device with both serial and imei number and produce a root code for you, but only with the code from your serial number entry will the process find and root your device.
Remember to give THANKS were THANKS is due.

I am using linux Revolutionary, ubuntu quantal, HBOOT 1.35 is less than required <1.45. Revolutionary 0.4pre4
In a term, sudo revolutionary, it recognizes my phone, says Zerging, quits.
I tried HTC Thunderbolt in power on mode and HTC sync mode. Many times, irritating to enter beta code over and over.
I guess I could try the serial number over but I think revolutionary is checking that before accepting beta code.
---------- Post added at 08:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 AM ----------
Annoying re-entering of beta code may be avoided by putting beta code into a file, then redirecting the file into revolutionary.
Code:
sudo ./revolutionary < ./beta_key
...but all I get is Zerging and failing.

[Q] Windows 8 64-bit Drivers not working

Just wiped all data off my phone before flashing CyanogenMod 10. Problem is, I need to reboot into the bootloader so I can flash the boot.img since I have the 2.20 AT&T update. But I can't get my computer to recognize my phone in fastboot mode. I'm using Windows 8 64-bit, and I've tried multiple threads with Win8 64-bit drivers, and installing the drivers with signature verification disabled. I'm at a loss, hope you guys can help, since I can't turn my phone on until this gets fixed.

Whoa whoa whoa. Downgrading the hboot is POSSIBLE. Holy frick, if this is true, I might hate myself for not discovering this sooner...
EDIT: The toolkit requires running Linux (which I don't have and am not real comfortable with) and involves hard bricking the phone...think I'll keep my hboot for now. Needing to flash the boot.img is kind of annoying, but it wasn't a big deal until I could no longer get fastboot to work...

I'm actually fairly competent in the unix terminal, thanks to using a Mac at work for a while, it's more the danger of hard bricking my phone that scares me.

Yeah, like I said, HTC Sync didn't solve my problem for whatever reason.
However, it occurred to me that I've never had to worry about Android drivers with Mac and Linux, and I was able to use fastboot without a problem from a Ubuntu LiveCD, without resorting to downgrading my hboot. Granted it meant downloading and configuring the android tools in Ubuntu, and I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis, but it's okay as a workaround, and this whole fiasco has me seriously considering switching my laptop to Ubuntu from Win8 (I could dual-boot), but I don't really have enough disk space for 2 operating systems).

Ok I had same issue when I was beta testing win 8 in Summer. You need to go to device manager and click the show hidden devices on menu bar. It will show you all devices not plugged in. Next find andriod , it should be greyed out. If you don't find install win 64 bit driver. It will still not recongize android when plugged in so click greyed out android and choose Manuel update. Then click browse for driver and go into win 64 drivers and manually choose. There is a lot of utube and other tutorials if you Google manuel install HTC drivers for win 8. Hope this helps ya. Let me know how it worked out

but you may find it on androiddrivers if you search you will find it in How to Root HTC One X! pleas share the link her so the other find it
I was able to get mine working with the combo of
1. uninstalling any HTC sync or sync manager and the HTC BMP USB Driver. Basically anything HTC.
2. Install HTC sync. Not sync manager. Go to the HTC support page and you'll see both listed. If you go to the specific phone support page it might not be there. (One S doesn't have the sync program, just sync manager iirc.)
3. Download PDAnet. When installing, It'll give a warning that you already have drivers installed and ask if you want to fix them or leave as is. I chose it to fix and it went though its process and I had working drivers after that.
I think this was already suggested before. I going back and giving thanks wherever due after this post. (On the mobile app right now)
Other easy way if you're using a One S is to download Hasoon2000's All-On-One Toolkit. He's updated the drivers for windows 8. I haven't tried it yet as mine are working so haven't had the need. I would assume his tool for any of the other phones he supports would have the updated drivers too.

[Q] Can't unlock bootloader on htcdev.com

I've reviewe dthreads with similar complaints, but...
1) I'm trying to root from linux
2) none of the threads match my conditions
Problem:
I can't get bootloader unlocked from htcdev.com. The website is super slow, and times out my login every 5 minutes. Grrrrr! When I run "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" it
1) returns a different blob every iteration
2) fails with:
Error Code: 173
Error Reason: Check rule failed with exception.
I gotta get past this before I can move on. I've spent hours preparing to do this, i.e. watching vids, reading instructions, etc, and I can't get past step #1. Grrrr!
Any help?
Thanks

"Indirect methods"? I'm not aware of them. Any links? Also, by "manual method", I presume you intend the one I've been following, as opposed to to your "1-Click Shift ROOTility"? I don't mind the manual method, as I've studied them for some time, and I'm familiar with the command interface. I'd like to proceed on Linux, especially if I can help clear up some issues along the way. But it sounds like most folks root from Windows?
I read alot of people having the same problem (today), its probably the site (HTCDev) itself.
I've been trying all day to unlock my (newly repaired) HTC One X without any success.
Hope it gets sorted soon.:fingers-crossed:

[Q] S-OFF, Facepalm or Moonshine, which one?

Hey!
As the title says, which one i take, Facepalm or Moonshine?
Ask if you need to know someting.. I'm a little lost about build numbers etc.
If you are on the latest jellybean update, (and by now that should be about everyone, that was months ago) then facepalm soff doesn't work for most. Moonshine came in and saved the day.
Moonshine can be tricky, I ran a RUU to be on the supported firmware, but It wouldn't go past step 2. Finally I put Mint Linux on an old laptop and it worked no problem.
I would guess, for most it works on windows or there would be more complaints /questions for help.

I'm terrible at helping choose which ruu.exe. I know it has to do with what CID number your phone has. I see your location says Finland.
Here are the links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200930
Moonshine uses the 32bit libs, I installed mint linux 64bit so I had to install the 32bit libs with it.
I would think the latest Ubuntu would work great.
Hopefully someone will see this and advise on an RUU if you don't see yours.

[Q] S-off attempts timing out in bootloader

Hi all,
I am attempting to S-off the wife's ATT HTC One X, so that I can install a Kit Kat Rom in it. Her phone is unlocked and running CM10.2, but she's S-on.
I've tried several toolkits, but they get stuck and time out waiting for the device once it reboots into the bootloader. In debugging mode, adb devices identified the phone just fine, but the computer (running Windows 8.1) says doesn't recognize the phone when in bootloader. I've got Koush's Universal ADB driver installed, installed HTC Sync for the drivers, then uninstalled the program. The drivers are still there when I navigate to them.
If this isn't the appropriate forum, then I apologize.
Many thanks in advance!

I can put an old HD back in with W7. I take it there is no workaround with 8.1?
Windows 8 is fine with fastboot but 8.1 is where the problems begin. No workaround yet. What see the bootloader details though? Depending on your current setup you might not even need s-off yet. S-off isn't required to flash the ROMs, but it's required to update your firmware (via an RUU). If your firmware is up to date you can just flash.

She has 2.18. I don't know other details off the top of my head and walking her through to boot to bootloader would be an utter disaster, lol.
The reason for trying to get S-off was that both the KitKat versions of CM and PA stated that S-off was required.
Thanks for your help.
If your cousin can't get to the bootloader by herself, then she has absolutely no business having a modified phone. Handing a modified device to someone who has no idea about what they're doing is a bad idea. The device has root privileges, access to areas that see not normally accessible. This means it's easy top screw up the device if you don't know what you're doing. Also, if something goes wrong she's not gonna know what to do, will probably panic and screw it up even more. Return it to stock.

Appreciate the concern. This is my wife's phone, and she's handled CM10.2 just fine for the last 6 months. She's informed enough to not do something stupid, but let's me handle rooting and flashing.
