[Q] Wifi terrible slow. Good signal, but 1Mbps. - General Questions and Answers

Hi All!
I searced internet for 4 days, i made at least 6 flash, i tried 6-7 wifi fix app but, nothing helped me.
So. I have a wireless router 54Mbps. I have 40Mbit internet. Distance: ~6m
Speedtest.net results:
-PC (enthernet) 3ms, 42Mbps down. 21Mbps up. (OK)
-H7500+ smartphone (MTK6589): 12ms, 18Mbps down, 14Mbps Up (OK) //Signal strenght -68dBm// Link speed 36Mbps//
-F788e tablet pc (Tegra2): 16ms, 18Mbps down, 16Mbps up (OK) //Signal strength -55dBm// Link speed 54Mbps//
-elephone p9 (MTK6592) 20ms 0.15Mbps down, and drop connect, no Up sped. //Signal strength -65dBm//Link speed 54Mbps, but after use, drops to 1Mbps//
So wtf with wifi, on elephone p9???????????
What i tried now: restart router. MAC(h) Fix, Wireless fix, FDZ fix, etc.
Made an acces point with wifi N dongle.
Distance: 1-2cm. Speedtest goes up to 14Mbps, then 2Mbps, then "Network communication issues".
Second test: 7ms, 28Mbps down, 15Mbps up. Looks ok.
3rd test: Check link speed: 26Mbps (on 2cm?), Speedest: wifi drop. Netwrok communication issues. Reconnect.
4rd test: Speedtest: 8Mbps down, aaand network communication issues.
5rd test: 8ms, 23Mbps down, 14Mbps up. Looks ok.
Tests were good, so i tested distance. After that, wifi dongle got error. No problem, my bad.
But i can't turn off wifi on phone. It freezed. Restart phone.
Test: OK speed.
Test: distance ~50cm. Network communication issue
Test again, distance 50cm: 15ms, 6Mbps down, 4Mbps up, link speed 11mbps. (Lol?)
Test with H7500+ smartphone (another), distance 60cm, 8ms, 29Mbps down, 22Mbps up.
wipe cache in recovery on elephone p9.
Test: 7ms, 5-1-7Mbps down, 1Mpbs up.
Test: 16ms, 5/1 Mbps.
No drop, but still slow.
Test: Distance: 1cm. 10ms, 3/10Mbps.
Test: 12ms, 13/14Mbps.
Test: distance 50cm, 11/6Mbps.
Test: distance 1m, 5/2Mbps.
H7500+ test: distance: 5m: 15ms, 22/17Mbps
Factory reset in settings, on elephone p9.
Drop wifi while i search speedtest.net in google play.
Test: distance 50cm, 23ms, 13/ drop wifi.
Test: 8ms, 22/10
Test: 9ms, 20/8 (looks no packet loss. first time)
Test: distance 5m, 10ms 5/ wifi drop.
Aaaand wifi freezed. Cannot turn off. Restart phone.
Can't connect to my acces point dongle, it says not in range. (distance 50cm)
Forget network. Cannot scan... Restart phone.
H7500+ still perfect, 14/11Mbps.
Elephone still can't scan my acces point....
Restart acces point. It works, connected.
Test: distance: 50cm, 29ms, 20/ Network communication issues. Turn off/on wifi.
Test: 15/12
Looks good, test with my home router.
Elephone p9: 18ms, 0.47/0.43Mbps; h7500+ 10/15Mbps. (???)
Conclusion: On h7500+, tests was good, signal was clear, no packet loss.
On elephone p9, it has many packet loss (freeze for sec at testing), and sloooow speed.
Okay, i give up. I tried everything, what i know. My think was, wifi atenna is broken. But at distance 1cm, it makes weird test results? Without antenna, it should make clear result, on this small distance.
I hope, once, somebody can help me.
Thank you for reading
(Sry for my english.)
up: Flatmate told me a trick. Try wifi direct. I use superbeam to send a 260Mb file. At 1cm distance, it was ok, 10+Mbps. But at distance 50cm, wifi drop
On another test. it was good for 3m. But 0.5Mbps
Is it possible, it shows good signal. But when transfer happening, it drops speed, because it has connection error on antenna? I think i disassamble tomorrow.

Polaris: WLAN problems?

Hi all,
I recently bought my HTC Polaris. It's the first wireless device I have, so I also bought a WiFi router to test it. I do not have any previous experience with WiFi on WinMobile, so the problems I am having could just be due to my newbie-ness...
I initially set my WLan router to WPA-PSK. I was able to get my Polaris connected, but at random times and repeatedly the device would stop receiving data (using IE, Google Maps...) with no apparent reasons. The wlan was still shown as connected in . At other times, it was unbearably slow. Sometimes it was difficult to reconnect after that.
Now I set my router to unprotected WLan, just for the sake of test. The connection with my Polaris seems more stable. I will keep testing.
In both situations there is something that puzzles me. In Settings-Connections-Wireless Lan, Main tab, it shows:
Tx speed = 54 Mbps
Rx speed = 1 Mbps
Also in the Advanced tab, the status is always shown as "Associated to the network" ("Associato alla rete"). I never saw "Connected to the network" ("Connesso alla rete") here.
Is this right? Did anyone else experience problems with the Polaris WLan? Is it possible that it works ok with no encryption, and doesn't with WPA? Please help!
*update*: while I was typing I was looking closely at the Rx speed. It seems to jump anywhere from 1 to 54 Mbps (but mostly stays at 1). I did not move the Polaris during this test. The signal strenght is good. The WLan adapter of my PC (where I'm typing looking at my Polaris screen) shows it as "excellent" and the connection pc-router is absolutely fast and stable.
I have no clue of what it can be.

WLAN Problems
This may not be related but I am managing to use a Netgear Router with WEP, however I do experience a lot of drop outs but more importantly I can't get any connections with the phone unless the battery saver setting is set for max performance. The phone also gets quite warm after 15 minutes operation on this setting.
Stuart
as enterpryse has suggested you could go to settings>connections> wireless Lan> Power mode and move the cursor to best performance.
let me know if anything changes.

I'd say this is the best bet too.
But if you still having trouble try to reconfig your router allowing basically anyone regardless of topology to connect with it. And try using your pc simultaneously to see if it’s the router.
It could also be certain pages that you browse or maybe you router is updating too frequently I had that problem the other day because but kept updating my router for me.
And how long does you device take before it get quite hot? would i be out of line if i said maybe its because you're insulating the device with your hand? (I know the device needs to be held lol but that might be the only answer to your problem unless it’s an excessive heat problem then I would consider contacting HTC / the battery manufacturer / processor manufacturer)
Well, I'll be...
I kept trying to duplicate the problem. I set my WiFi router back to WPA as it was before when I was getting problems. Same PSK.
But after the first bad experiences (and my previous post), no more problems. The Rx speed is usually 42 to 48 Mbps now. It looks like this was the indicator that something was wrong in my first attempts, when I always got Rx=1. At 42 or more, everyting goes fast: Opera, Fast GPS, Google Maps... And I did not experience any more connection drops, data flow hangs, or slowness in connecting to the WLan.
The WLan router was already working fine, since I was already connected to it with my pc. I cannot explain why it didn't almost work and it's working fine now. The only thing I changed was the WLan channel. Could this be an explanation?

Of course, are there any other wlans around you? If they are on the same channel your router goes down with the speed till a stable connection is established.
Even if you have other wireless device e.x mouse, headset, keyboard. They often transmit on the 2,4GHz band an interfere with wlans.
Can't even load wireless mode!
I've just received my Touch Cruise and have started setting things up. I'm a previous owner of the Hermes so I know my way around the device. Or so I thought...
Using Comm Manager to start up wireless lan, when I click on the button, it thinks for a while but doesn't load up WLAN. The button stays in the "off" setting. Tried pressing a few times, no luck.
Tried switching off all other connection types and just switching on WLAN - still doesn't work. Tried using the hotlink via "Wireless LAN" icon through settings/connections to turn WLAN on. Still no luck. Resetting makes no difference.
Phone is otherwise working brilliantly. Looks like a driver issue, as I had a similar problem from time to time on the Hermes with Black ROM. Any ideas on what else I could try?
le_paulo
"Resetting makes no difference."
Did u do a soft or hard reset?
@Jackster - both soft and hard reset tried. No difference. But after the hard reset I re-installed Goodlink which threw up an error message "Communication port WIFI is locked down". Which suggests to me that WLAN is visible but access has been restricted somehow.
The question is why (??) and how to undo it...
Nothing a cooked firmware can't fix
Meantime, if anyone knows registry settings I should check to do some basic diagnostics, I'd appreciate it.

I got the same problem. I changed the connection settings of ActiveSync to
allow wireless connections when connected to a desktop computer.
Maybe this will fix your problem.

Same problem here. Tx = 54mbit Rx = 1 mbit. Sometimes it works ok (with Rx 24-54mbit) but most of time there are huge drops so i cant use wlan at all.
My Nokia N95 works excellent at the same settings with same router.
My polaris wlan battery is set to "Max Performance".
Any clue?
weird
This is the second XDA Orbit 2 (Polaris) I've had in a week. I returned the first one because of WLAN problems. Exactly the same with this one.
I have a Netgear DG834GT, WPA-PSK encryption set to 'auto 108mbps' on channel 6. As other posters here, tried no encryption, changing channels, g only, g & b, as well as all the other suggestions on here. All I got was Rx=1, screen icon showing connected and no web access etc.
Then I noticed that my Orbit 2 mac address appeared on the Wireless Station Access list in my router wireless settings. I clicked on the Add button to add my XDA to the Trusted Wireless Station list (but Access Control was NOT switched on) and EUREKA, it started working, but not very reliably. Surely this shouldn't be necessary. I have had an XDA Orbit for a year with absolutely no problems, so I know my around the new one. There must be a problem with the Orbit 2 - surely we can't all be wrong?

WIFI slow

Good Morning,
By connecting the NAS via wifi network, the notebook can transfer files at a speed of about 4-5 MB/S, but through our ASUS TF700T can transfer files at a speed of about 1.7MB/S.
How come?
What do I need to set to be able to speed up data transfer and watch movies smoothly?
Thanks
Will have to test later.
I wonder if asus have reduced the power consumption in 4.2.1? If so that could explain what you are seeing as the signal strength is not as strong.
I can try to test the old power profile to see if it helps.
Thanks for the answer, great sbdags!
I tried the wifi with the NAS both your CROMI 3.6 JB 4.1.1 and then with Asus Stock 4.2.1 but it was always so slow.
Tonight I try to remove the fuel consumption.

Wifi Advanced settings, untick WiFi optimizations maybe?
Yes, I try to uncheck that option on by default.
Our Asus has wifi "n" right?
How should transfer the data?
Yesterday I tried to transfer the data by removing the option of saving the wifi but the speed remained the same.
I noticed that the netbook and the notebook clamp the signal at 150 Mbps while the TAB anchors it to 65 Mbps (of course in the same room).
How come the TAB does not manage to connect with full signal?
There is a program that allows you to vary the parameters of the wifi inside the TAB?
Netbooks and Notebooks connect to 150 Mbps regularly!

65Mbps is the maximum speed the TF700 can connect at.
In my experience this does not matter though as the max short burst speed achievable is ~55Mbps as shown in perfmon when writing to class 10 sd. It is lower than this when writing to internal storage. Max sustained speed I get over wifi is using andftp which gives ~50Mbps.
50Mbps over WiFi? You are lucky boy! I can confirm very poor and inconsistent WiFi performance. Speedtest.net is reporting odd results and also data transfer from my home NAS varies. Based on Speedtest.net WiFi speed is mostly 1-2Mbps occasionally nearing 30Mbps. My PC wired to same router is pulling files from internet easily at 60Mbps and from local NAS much more faster. I also tried factory reset to have rooted clean 4.2.1, but it does not helped. Also AnTuTu benchmark is not giving consistent test outputs on my tablet so I am assuming that this could be related to some newly introduced bug.
I have 65 Mbps data transfer via the Internet, but not as a hook to the router.
The netbook hooked to 150 Mbps and Tab 65
The netbook on the NAS transfers data at a speed of 10 MB / s while the TAB to 1.7 MB / S!
I thought that at least 5 MB / S arrived safely

I should clarify. I also get very low speeds using samba transfers. Max of about 30Mbps. I only see 50Mbps when using ftp (from local media server) to my 64gb class 10 sd card fomatted to ntfs. If I format to exfat or other I can't achieve as high a transfer speed.
After updating to 4.2.1 I had very low speed and it didn't improve until i cold booted twice.
I have nearly all 1080p mkv's on my files server and these can be up to 25GB in size. The only way I have found to reliably stream them from my server without stuttering is to use the FTP function in dice player.
From my point of view the problem lays in inconsistent WiFi speed. I can live happily with steady 10Mbps transfer speed for sure, but problem is that sometimes it is 30Mbps and sometimes only 2Mbps or even less, both on same network and router :silly:

[Q] WiFi Transfer Speeds (LAN)

What are your WiFi transfer speeds from LAN? (ie: transfer from pc network folder)
Mine is EXTREMELY SLOW, even slower than Cellular Data speeds.
Download: avg 900kB/s (Bytes/sec NOT BiTS)
avg 7200kb/s (bits/sec)
The router is Linksys E3200 (5GHz band, DFS Auto Select)

Pubg Mobile Ping issues over USB C Tethering

i play pubg mobile on daily basis, usually connecting VIA wireless 5G Network, my router is directly in the same room without any repeaters, the internet is Fiber with speed of 300, usually, the ping in-Game is between 60-80 which is good but sometimes I get killed behind cover due to ping difference. so I purchased the USB-C tethering device from belikn (Belkin F2CU040btBLK USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter), and I connected it directly to the main router, the internet speed on youtube and speed test is excellent and the speed test shows a ping of 1 MS.
when I tried the gameplay, everything was fine until I got loaded to the island and the ping shows 20ms for 1 second then jumps to 460 after that without any change.
any ideas?

TomTom Mobile Go - Map Download

Hi,
I use an Android Headunit in my car, I only download updates when connected to my house wifi, and downloading the map updates takes forever. I'd love to be able to download on my laptop or phone, and then transfer to the car using a memory card.
Anyone have any ideas if this could be done?
Thanks
IMO download speed doesn't depend on device where data should get stored, but on Internet speed.
Download speed refers to how many megabits (Mbps) per second it takes your TomTom server to download data to your device.
If speed score is fast — around 100-200 Mbps — this indicates that your slow download speed has nothing to do with the Internet. If your speed score is low — below 100 Mbps — this could be an indication that the Internet may be the problem.
Keep in mind that your speeds vary depending on the number of users that are on your network at a time.
Thanks but, Laptop uses Wi-Fi 6 AX, to connect to router, Android Headunit Wi-Fi 5 AC and further from router. Additionally I think headunit is only 2.4Ghz connection as opposed to 5Ghz on laptop.
IMO you are confusing bandwidth and Internet speed.
