Need help with /system r/w permission - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Every Rom I install I cannot get permission to r/w to /system. The custom roms say they have support to write to /system but I can never successfully do that. I use ES File Explorer with root turned on. Any suggestions on what is going on. I always clean flash the roms when I install.

Are you making sure to mount /system as rw? Even with write protection disabled, it's still mounted as ro by default.
In root explorer:

Note the button at the top to remount as rw

Ok. How would I mount it r/w with es file explorer. I was actually trying to check for something like that.

Honestly not sure how to do it in es. I use Root Explorer when I need to modify /system

Thanks guys. I figured it out. Had to long press root option in es to bring up extra options, which one was mount r/w. Thanks guys for chimming in.

[Q] Google Calendar on Stock JB??

As the title says, when I was on ICS, i had Google Calendar and its useful widget, but on JB, it is gone.
Is there any way to get it back??
Mine is there....Is the entire application missing? I'd think being on stock none of that stuff would be touched/modified.

Just Calendar is missing. It's weird. I've tried to install the apk from this post, but it gives an error and it wont install. I'll put screenshots later

The .apk must be installed normally or it should be put in /system??
please help!
you have to install it to the system. try using a file explorer or adb, i prefer adb cos its faster. if you use root explorer, set the permission to wr-r-r. and you put it in /system/app

Did tried that, but it didn't worked either. After some little investigation, Calendar.apk was in system/app the whole time. It seems the problem comes from CalendarProvider.apk. I went to system/app, tried to install CalendarProvider.apk, and it gave an error, telling me that the same app was installed, but with a conflictive signing.
Can anyone provide me with a clean, JB version of CalendarProvider.apk??
the internets is full of the GB and ICS version of that one...
Thanks in advance.

I will upload one as soon as I get home. And make sure you have a root explorer and move the app to the folder and set permission wr-r-r.

Interesting! Please inform us (and make a screenshot).
So far I have noticed that woke in recovery (twrp) it will not show me to wipe anything. And while in fastboot, it won't allow me to erase any partition. It will allow me to flash over but not erase.
In recovery it says 'failed' unable to mnt /data partition.

I'm gonna try to delete some apps and see if it has that dumb a$$ write protection kernel again.
Yup new kernel has write protection. Even after flashing jmz's disable wp zip. I'll upload the boot img so maybe a dev can figure out how to remove it
You are still S-Off? With S-Off you should be able to delete System apps.
Yeah still s-off a reboot after flashing jmz's disable wp.zip now can delete system apps and mnt /data

Update: every thing seems to be working just fine with this tiny update.
Root .......check
S-off.........check
Google wallet.......check
Pretty much everything it's still running smoothly no hiccups or disasters
op updated
just an app update
Hmmm, it seems I have yet to receive this update... I wonder why that is. Guess they thought it wasn't important for me to have it ha!

this is a system app. place it in
/system/app
set permissions to
-rw-r--r--
and reboot
Hmmm, well, thanks, much appreciated. Seems as when I rebooted my phone the update finally came in haha. Even though I had already followed through with yours I proceeded forward with the update none the less and allowed it to install. Not sure if it overlapped what you gave me or if the system picked up yours to begin with. Either way, all seems well so thanks.

Hidden su

I tried installing Barclays app but it doesn't support rooted apps. I saw somewhere that one should rename su with .su to hide root. Shouldn't believe everything I read online I guess.
Anyway it didn't work and now I cannot rename .su to su back. I have lost root as well. What should I do? Thanks.
I am running CWM and Cynogenmod 10.1.2
Resolved it

I re-rooted the phone and that made su back and now it's rooted. trying to figure out how to make barclays app work. Hide my root isn't affective.

1.Flash this in recovery so you get root and su back
http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
2. Go to the superuser app
And click on Temp Unroot

Hi,
There's a good chance that I'm actually part of the reason Barclays doesn't work with root access. When the app was first made, I was working at Barclays at the time so I tested it on a rooted phone and they made changes to it to stop root access being accepted :/
Anyway, there are some methods posted in the following thread which should help you use the Barclays app while still keeping root access, as they've worked for other people - Barclays Mobile Banking Root Fix.
Also, I've moved this to Q&A as it's a question

[Q] Where is the downloads folder?

Hi all,
Having a brainfart here. I am using Root Explorer. What is the filepath to the Downloads folder? I put some files in the /Storage/Emulate/0/Download folder using Root Explorer, but cannot pull them up with the Downloads UI.
Thanks

Sorry for the OT, but what file explorer is that? Looks so nice
Hey, Thanks. I thought so.
But I am putting files in that folder from another folder with Root Explorer, and the Downloads UI is not picking them up.
Edit: Root Explorer is a paid version of a file explorer that I have been using for years.

Ya, like El Daddy said above, I dont think thats possible. I believe the downloads app will only show files that were actually downloaded through the phone.
Okay, Thanks, didn't know that.

Theres an app called selinuxmodechanger,

Install, open the app, select permissive, reboot and see if that helps.
