Hello.
I have a Samsung S4 mini i9195 with CM11 nightly ROM. Unfortunately this rom does not have OTG and BLN support , which I think are some very interesting options.
I have installed the version 1.4.0 Kernel f4ktion that has these functions . Now I can connect a keyboard and a mouse and through "screen mirroring" I can see it on the TV, all perfect except 2 issues .
I use a powered USB hub, but the storage units are recognized but not mounted. I installed several apps and finally I read through the "USB OTG Helper " application , although it is not mounted as an external USB drive , but as a folder in /storage/UsbOtgDrives/drive_1.
Is it normal to have to use an external application and the mount as folder? I've seen other smartphones that automatically detected and mounted without applications as USB external drive.
The second problem is more important to me and I decided not to use the kernel f4ktion for this reason.
I use an application called " DroidWall " to control Internet access to each application. This allows me to control which applications can access internet via wifi but not on 3G. Something very useful for those who have limited data on 3G.
The problem is that when I install this kernel , DroidWall exits with failure. Does anyone know why this happens or if there is an application like DroidWall work well with kernel f4ktion ?
Thanks an Regards

I installed CM10 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and although I understand this is an early release, I have problems auto-mounting USB disks on my tablet. I used to connect the USB key to this USB adapter from Samsung, and boom! I have the storage displayed to me. But now, with CM10, I have to run a utility that will actually mount the USB device to a mounting point, like /sdcard/usbmount/ so that I can then access the card. Is this something normal, or was I spoiled by Samsung and taking this auto-mount for granted before ?
I also noticed that before I installed the Google Apps ZIP file, I could not do anything like this before. At least, now the USB port seems to work.
Thanks for any feedback on this.
Hi all,
I love my phone, and the roms all these prouds guys are releasing out there. I'm currently on CM9 by Dhiru (alpha12).
My problem is that i really need the thetering feature that Android OS provide; is necessary for me, but i faced a lot of problems with my i9003!
when i was in GB Stock, i was able to share internet via Wifi and Bluetooth to my linux box (yeah, i'm on linux) without any issue, but for the usb theter (the best way to do it for battery and security related stuff) i hadn't any luck. I passed to CM9 for all the features it provides, for the good loking and couse is really better that GB in all parts!
But now, i not only be unable to theter via usb if also with bluetooth and wifi!!! wah
So now i would like to know if someone can point me in the right direction to find a way to use theter on my phone!!
Ah, no WEP tether here plz
P.S.
with a galaxy y i can succesfully usb tether on my box...
P.P.S
srr for my awful english
Use a 3rd party app for internet tethering!
Tethering in Cm9 alpha12 don't work. Its a known bug. You can use apps from play store.

wifi tethering with third party apps works only because set the wifi in ad-hoc mode instead master mode, and i won't to set my shared connection in this way, also because of WEP enc.
The usb tethering apps works only (i suppose couse never tried) for private driver installation; that means no universal way, that mean i need to install these apps and proprietary drivers on the machine i want to use, and again is not feasable!
so, these 2 options are not a solution.
And i have to say that the usb tethering seems to be broken in linux on i9003, couse i can succesfully usb tether (wifi ofcourse work) from a galaxy next!
Try this app. The phone was recognized without doing anything when I used it (linux, I had to install Samsung drivers on Windows)
wow

It worked for me.
I tried native thetering on my laptop using a network-manager (useful when you have to manage several wifi networks..) and everything worked without really doing anything, no ifconfig, dhcpd etc, I just plugged the phone. Maybe if you do things manually there's something extra to do, I've never tried it because in my case "no network-manager => cable avaible => no need of thetering", but I might try one day.
Anyway the app I suggested is working great, it's as fast as native thetering, at least it was fast when I used it, it has a very nice interface and it bypass all the thetering restrictions your provider might set ;D
The only problem I have with it is that whenever I use it, I need to toggle "USB debug" to make this one work again without a reboot, but that's a minor thing. And another thing I noticed is that (in CyanogenMod) even though the data usage is correctly calculated, there's no "android-usb-theter" in the list and the traffic is equally spread. But as long as it keep tracks of it it's ok.

Mmh dunno,
but i'm on Chanogen 9 with i9003, and on a ubuntu box and network-manager running i hadn't any luck with the native theter, intead, with a galaxy mini it worked with both system out of the box... maybe is my phone

Tried this app.. Tethering works fine, but my external sd card, that is my micro sd does not show up on my comp (running Windows) in usb mass storage anymore.
When I installed this app and connected it to the it installed a mass storage driver, maybe that is responsible. How do u fix it??

Mmh, why did you use it if usb tethering is working fine under windows?
yes, probably is that driver that force to use it; did you used to have mass storage working before using that app?
and the drivers, was provided by the software itself, asked by windows or what? where did you got it?
can you just uninstall it and try if work again?
I installed the tethering app.. when I connect the phone to the comp after that, the driver gets installed on its own ..and the external SD does not show up any more .. Both storage work fine in mass storage mode prior to the above driver installation ..
Hello, I've been looking for a new ROM to switch to but I've come across a serious problem.
From what I've noticed, CM 13 now mounts the USB drive in /mnt/media_rw/<uuid>. That's fine but I can access this folder only in CM File Manager. In any other app this folder is either not visible (eg. Root Browser) or it's visible as a file (Titanium Backup). I cannot use StickMount either, it just closes after trying to mount the drive and it keeps saying that "the service is busy". I've been trying several tricks with modifying permissions.xml, changing permissions and owners but after three hours of trying to get it to work, I gave up.
This seems to be happening not only on CM 13 but on any other ROM that's based on it (checked with Bliss). Logcat is here: http://pastebin.com/VRduYA1z
Is this a problem related to CM 13 or is there something wrong with my drive? Now I'm running on Chroma and with StickMount my drive works perfectly fine.
I think it has something to do with Marshmallow in general. Marshmallow introduced the feature of using a USB drive as internal storage or something like that. I think it may have changed the external storage location too. I don't know the details but I have had issues with emulators not being able to see my game ROMs on a USB stick as well. I've been wanting to store ROMs on my USB stick and play them on my Nexus Player with emulators but I'm having the same issue of not being able to navigate to them. I haven't figured out any fix for this.
Hello all,
I was facing issue when I attach my usb drive to my phone through otg that when I'm coping anything to usb it was disconnecting from itself, tried many otg devices and also changed my usb drive and still the problem exists, after too much time search I found strange fix for this problem but worked at last, The fix is to turn on (Airplane mode), I don't know how and why sim cards affect otg but at all my otg works great and coping 10 GB for 1hr without disconnecting issue
Also, make sure that the following apps have no Battery optimization limit: File Manager, External Storage, MTP host, System UI, and also the app you use to copy files. To make this on MIUI 11 go to Settings, Password&Security, Privacy, Special Access, Battery optimization, and then Show all app and make all app mentioned (Not battery optimized)
Also make sure that System UI app has all notification is show and has high priority.

it worked for me just one time and not work again, im tired to turn OFF and ON my device and connected and disconnected usb many time to work . it was bug xiaomi (my phone is Poco F3)
I have experienced issues with MTP (media transfer protocol) for over a year now.. I cannot connect my S7 to my pc using mtp, as there is no mtp option avaible when usb is connected and sliding down the drop down menu, selecting the usb options..
I've tried everything, different usb cables, different computers, laptops, different usb ports, calling *#0808# to make sure my connection is set to MTP + ADP, unlocking developer and selecting MTP from usb developer settings, nothing, nothing works, and I'm getting really really frustrated with it...
Yes I have Samsung Smart View installed, but no reaction when i plug in usb.
So again, there is no MTP option for me to connect my device to my pc in order to transfer files.
The ones I do have in the menu: transfer files, transfer images, midi connection, charge phone.
Also after I connected the usb to my phone, I get a pop up on my phone screen saying: "the connected device has no acces to data on this device, try reconnect the usb cable en try again."
Any ideas? Been looking for anwsers for a while now...
Regards
Do you have any package disabler apps running, if you do make sure no MTP apps are disabled.
Also make sure your PC has Samsung USB driver installed.
Hi,
which model is your S7 ?
if it is compatible, you may try my tutorial: [GUIDE/TUTORIAL/HOWTO] Samsung Galaxy S7 herolte stock to Android 10 | XDA Developers Forums (xda-developers.com)

I do have some apps disabeled, tho I don't think I've disabled an app that causes the issue with MTP..
What is disabled?
Briefing
Excel
Facebook
Google Drive
Google Play Films
Google Play Music
Hangouts
One Drive
PowerPoint
Samsung Gear
Samsung Health
Skype
I disabled those cause I don't really have a usecase for them

Thanks for linking me this! I do have a compatible S7 model,
But I guess I forgot to mention that my phone also does not read any sd card anymore.. And the whole reason I want MTP to work is so I can transfer all my files to my pc, in order to do a proper factory wipe and reset everything, so I can begin again with a clean install.
Thus making your tutorioul not really usefull here since I'm loosing all my data with the update..
