[Q] Flashing is safe? - General Questions and Answers

Hello ' im here again asking about Chainfire's Update.zip that will install su on my tablet... Im on the stock recovery so my question is.....
Will this be safe?
Will I get on a boot loop?
I cant pull the tablet's battery what will I do when I stucked on a bootloop?
btw here's the specs
Ainol CM Fusion Air
1GHZ singlecore processor
Mali 400 GPU chipset
Android 4.2.2
Kernel 3.0.8+
Hope someone can answer me coz I keep on posting here no one replies.. Any friendly guys here.. Im just desperate om rooting this tablet...
EDIT: Screenshots removed. That was wrong screenshots

Relatively safe. As long as you don't break the bootloader/recovery, you can still go back to stock. But always do backups.

If I stucked on a boot loop, wiping data will move me ahead? Because I cant perform nandroid on this recovery..

You should choose a recovery with the option to do a nandroid. nothing more important than that!
but otherwise wiping and flashing should be sufficient ... hopefully

If the device gets stuffed up on a bad flash, and if you factory wipe it. It won't work, unless you have a nandroid backup to restore. Sometimes it works but from my experience, if I install a .zip which causes me to go into a bootloop and if I wipe data it doesn't fix anything.
You should make a backup, that way you are prepared for the worst.
If I helped, don't hesitate to hit that Thanks button

Ok Ill find a way to flash CWM (maybe on SP flash tool) Thanks for your response guys..

[Q] (Q)Urgent.. Downgrade\Restore from ICS

Hi, I was using Paul Burtons ICS port and I made a backup of my Prime rom . However when I booted back to CWM and restored the NAND backup it says succesful yet when I reboot, the screen stays black after the transformer splashscreen/logo.. I tried erasing all data and factory reset and searched and checked the original thread... I can however go back to the ics port and successfully boot up to it... any help would be greatly appreciated.. thank you XDA.
goodness ya noob.. you shouldn't have flashed that ics port.. it was extremely experimental. Anyways seeing that you tried everything I would have, Im sorry to say that i can't help but I applaud you for at least searching and checking the original thread. LOL.

wipe /syste /data /cache... basically everything in CWM possible, then re-flash the Prime or whatever you want
I did the same thing as op. But when I try restoring I get an error saying .android_secure.img is missing. Any ideas?

Maybe a fresh install instead of a restore?

Im back at stock and i still cant restore. Its the .android_secure.img. its missing from my sd card
i had the same problem i did the wipes in cwm and then restored and got a black screen as you describe.
then i grabbed superwipe from revolution rom(i dnt kno if its neccessary but it worked) from black screen i boot into cwm ran superwipe loaded my rom which is revolver right from the rom flashable zip as a new install. then rebooted and back into cwm then restored my backup. not sure whats goin on or why it worked it may be overkill but i got back to my backup.
if you need better explaination just ask
So i would use super wipe lite or the normal one?

Use Super wipe lite if you want to keep SD card contents, but try the methods listed above before trying the latter .

Can you get back to recovery to flash a new ROM?
I have flashed many ROMS recently to try them out and also had a similar issue with one or two of them.
On my Note 2 I hold power, home and volume up to cycle power and get back to recovery and simply flash a new ROM, presto...

Not sure what is going on but here is how I flash a ROM from recovery and so far so good.
Copy rom file to external sd card in phone.
Do a full factory wipe, cache and dalvik.
Install rom.
Install Gapps if necessary or desired.
Wipe cache and dalvik again.
Reboot
Note that some roms will give you a recommended list of what to wipe if doing a new install or upgrade of that rom, if such instructions exist its best to follow those instead but the above has worked for me for a while now.

That's what is advised to do before flashing a completely different ROM anyway by some. From recovery, flash the ROM again, and if the ROM is not corrupted (check md5 or whatever comes with it), you should be good to go.

You'll need to place the new ROM on your sdcard then in recovery you'll need to wipe system, cache, dalvic cache, and factory reset.. After that you can flash the ROM.. You'll also need to flash the kernel in fastboot mode if your not s-off.. There are plenty of threads and info on that topic if you do a little research.

thanks for the quick response, I'll try but it seems very difficult for me, then I'll tell how it went.
Firt do: You'll need to place the new ROM on your sdcard then in recovery you'll need to wipe system, cache, dalvic cache, and factory reset as $droyd$ said
Then, on your pc, open the rom.zip and extract the boot.img file from it.
Then, select in the OneS All-in-one toolkit the flash kernel option and run the command. Wait until your phone is in the bootloader and then select the boot.img and let it run.
You can download the toolkit here: http://d-h.st/n9n
is resolved, do not quite know how but it was. thank you all for your vested interest in helping a stranger who is very grateful.

Reboot to recovery, Wipe cache.
I did it no use...
What about sending it for repair again, then when it comes back do a nandroid restore of your data only (not system and other partitions), see whether that works.
Off topic: This should be in Q&A?

[Q] [URGENT] [Bootloop and a bunch of other stuff]

Hellk let's just start from the top.Alright, firstly I just know that my Lenovo A316i just got softbricked or hardbricked I don't know but it doesn't matter. The problem is I'm stuck in bootloop after installing custom ROM.I try to reflash the stock rom using the normal procedure which is wipe /data,reset to factory, wipe cache and wipe dalvik-cache.Apparently I'm stuck in wiping /data when I try to wipe it it says can't wipe /data or kinda like error wiping /data.So please help me no matter what happens I just want my phone live again. Please help me urgent! How do I fix this

Download and flash your ROM again

Sometimes when you install a new ROM the very first boot afterwards can take a while. Give it up to even 10 minutes just in case that's all it is. Sometimes people panic after a minute because previously it only took 15 seconds to boot.
I'm assuming you didn't back the phone up before flashing your new ROM? Obviously it's easy to say in hindsight but this step is definitely worthwhile next time around so you can easily undo..

Are you sure the custom ROM you flashed was compatible with your device?
+1 what he said ^
Some ROMs are super specific and you need to make sure you're working with the exact model number and also check the kernel compatibility
