[Q] Sleep Mode or Qualcomm Snapdragon BatteryGuru - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hi all.
I came from the SGS4 and just got my new HTC One M8 a few days ago
I noticed this phone has "sleep mode" and wondered if that basically does the same thing as BatteryGuru.
BatteryGuru really helped on the S4 but this phone stock already has superior battery life than the S4 with BatteryGuru.
My questions:
Will activating sleep mode and using BatteryGuru conflict with each other?
Should I even bother to use BatteryGuru since this phone has sleep mode?
Appreciate any and all opinions/recommendations

I ran Battery Guru for a bit, having been satisfied with its help on the Rezound, but I found it more often than not got in the way on my M8. It's control of wifi, for instance, had it turning ON wifi periodically, even after I turned it off (it's a setting, I know, but it just should leave it ALONE when I tell it to, and that wasn't an option). The way I figured it, HTC and Qualcomm must have collaborated on the great battery savings I was seeing on the device, Battery Guru was just getting in the way and adding overhead. I haven't missed it at all.

Thanks for your input ?

What battery life should I expect from my One XL?

Hi all,
I have a Telstra HTC One XL, with the "1.89... etc" updated installed recently, and a newbie to Android so using the stock Sense installed. I currently have "Fast boot" unticked in power options and also have installed Juicedefender Ultimate with a balanced setting. I still have the autosync option on in the widget, and I have the brightness on 33%. Most of the time Juicedefender leaves wireless off by default, and Bluetooth is turned off unless I am in the car (which is rare).
I have serious difficulty understanding what battery life performance I should be expecting from my phone. Even after making the above modifications, I can sometimes get a dead phone in 10 hours with this happening twice so far (and, typically this usually happens in a pure LTE/4G area). Other times, I can get up to 16-18 hours of use (which I am happy with) when it is a mixture of a LTE/3G area during the day (i.e. LTE in the morning/afternoon and 3G in the evening onwards).
I typically use around 1.5hrs of screen time during a day. What confuses me is that I've read of other posters getting up to 2 days of battery life without charges on this phone, and I have no idea how they are achieving this!
I'm looking for any suggestions on what I should do to monitor my battery life settings, and what measures you think I can take to improve this.
It's disappointing because I love this phone and the only thing holding it back is the battery. I would get through 24hrs of battery with the iPhone 4 with the same usage cycle (albeit yes, no LTE or HSPDA).
Thanks for your suggestions

They achieve days of battery by not having LTE. Some even set their phone to 3G only.
I get 3-3.5 hours of screen time on mine, always on LTE which is usually 20-22 hours of battery time total.

I'm battling a little with mine as well. Only had it 3 days but it really struggles to get through the day. I have wifi set to 2.4 only, 3g only selected and I make sure unused radios are off when not in use. The other night my battery dropped to just about empty when sitting there on wifi where my old desire would only loose maybe 10%.
I read here on xda about an issue it chrome where turning off tilt scrolling helps and I think it has today. But overall I'm not very impressed by this phones life atm as I'm barely getting through the day with about 2 hours of screen time. My desire used to do it easily having maybe 40% at the end of the day running all the same apps.

It takes a few days and full charges before the phone starts to use the full battery. Give it another few charges to get better.

Yeah I know, I'm hoping it gets better with some full cycles.

Being in a fringe LTE area is worse than an area with decent LTE reception. My home are seems to have very good LTE coverage, and I easily get 24 hours with light to moderate usage.
Also, being connected to WiFi when you can will improve battery life.

I wouldn't use juice defender or any such app to manage wifi. The phone has setting to disable wifi when the screen is locked - that works very well. I always have brightness set at 40% with auto sync on and data on. The default HTC mail app has a killer feature - allowing auto sync by time - utilize that. Root and get rid of default Facebook and other Facebook hooks in the Sense interface - that is the killer in terms of battery if you have sync enabled. Once that is done - download Facebook from Play store and use that. Also, get rid of all AT&T apps that keep loading in the background - disable if you don't want to root. Now, the battery should easily last 24 hours with light use. Most of what I described doesn't even require root.

In terms of battery life - Apple prioritizes it well above anything else - hence, no widgets or 3rd party programs running in the background. I am sure LTE iPhone (whenever released) will have much better battery life than SGS3 or HOX. Besides, screen is the biggest battery consumer among all components so, having a smaller screen would also play to their advantage.

Battery life issues

Hello!
I only recently got an HTC One S as my old GS2 broke and I'm damn please with this phone except for the battery. I'm pretty sure I have the S4 version as all the benchmarks say it's 1512 Mhz and running the latest stock JB I believe. Problem is I get like 8-10 hours max out of this battery and that is not even using the phone that much. Is there anything to do/check to help with this poor battery? I already am using all the saving options, remove every unnecessary app that was draining my battery.
Please fellows, this is my first time posting here but I've been browsing this website many many times in search for roms and tutorials, this is the first time though I'm asking for any help.
Anything will be appreciated!

Stock ROM?
3G always on?
Bluetooth / GPS on?
Screen on time?
How old is the phone?

Yes, it's a stock ROM
3G is not always on, I set it to not sync automatically and turn off when the screen is off.
Bluetooth and GPS are never on.
Screen on time is really low as I don't really use it that much. I always am below 30% brightness though.
I can't tell you for sure how old is it but I'd say a year?
Does the battery drain while the screen is off? This phone wastes almost no battery with the sceen off, so if you notice such drain you'll probably have some kind of wakelock. You can check using "wakelock detector" app.
By the way, the battery should last longer then with your GS2, especially with 3g enabled.

[Q] Terrible SOT on all devices. Why?

Hi all,
I've been having this issue for a while now and I don't know how this should go on. Before I start, I apologize for bad wording or grammar, as german is my primary language.
I run Android since 3 years now and the problems began to evolve over the last one and a half years. I have it on my two latest devices, my international Samsung Galaxy S2 and my international HTC One X.
On my Galaxy S2, I noticed battery life getting worse and worse. I have my devices usually set up this way:
- All location services permanently turned off unless I need GPS
- Wifi only at home when I need it
- 3G always on
- Brightness about 50%
On my Galaxy S2, I got 2 hours of screen on time regularily. No matter what ROM I was using, if it was stock, CM, or anything else. I thought, maybe I just need a replacement battery. Bought one, changed nothing.
Jumping to my One X. I have set is up similarily to my GS2, running CM11 M8 atm (gonna flash M9 later, to see if it changes anything). It started out the same. I replaced the battery on this one, too, even with a larger one (One X+ battery, 2100 mAh) I only get little over 2 hours of screen on time. I've uploaded some screenshots for you.
Further investigation showed me, that there were no wakelocks draining me, CPU going to deep sleep correctly, no problem. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, or at least that that is normal?! My dad gets days out of his battery, his Galaxy S3 LTE going strong on 40% left after 3 days with 2h 30m screen on. The One V of my mom lasts about a week. A friend of mine has a Galaxy S2 plus (she's a noob in android), wifi always on, location services always on, about 200 apps installed, this thing is slow as hell and it lags itself to death, but she has 10% left after a bit over one day with 3h 40m screen on time. And here I am, not even making it to dinner without giving my phone a good charge up. Right now, 2h 35m into battle, 7m 1s screen on and 94% left. Battery widget reborn says, I lose 1% after 9 minutes on average.
Can this somehow be in connection to my google account? I have trouble explaining it to myself.
Thanks a lot for your help!
This seems a bit strange. Download Greenify to hibernate any apps you don't use regularly. AOSP and CM based ROMs seem to have more problems with battery life so maybe stick with stock Roms for now. Also if you have a lot of bloatware this can cause battery to drain. Search online for safe system apps to freeze/uninstall on your phones..you can do this via titanium backup

I'm already using Greenify. For now, I flashed a stock based ROM again, I modified it with root uninstaller to remove carrier branding and useless apps. Gonna look at the battery life now, I will give updates.
Leaving 3G on always could also contribute to battery drain as this allows apps to sync their data periodically which further drains battery. So my advice is just 1.greenify 2.freeze/uninstall system apps you don't use.

Oh sorry I didn't see your reply and okay we'll see how that goes. You could also try battery calibration, though I think its a bit gimmicky but people often say it brings improvements. And here's a tip that most people don't know but charging your phone throughout overnight can damage the battery and reduce battery life/capacity. Hi again,
I've tried out the rooted stock rom for several weeks now. It works fine, battery life is ok. I also noticed that uninstalling the Instagram app nearly tripled my battery life, regardless of it being greenified.
Thanks for your help, my phone is running fine again.

[Q] Bizarre Battery Drain

Dear XDA Members,
I'm having some issues with the battery of my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. About 2 weeks ago, 2 phones in this house, a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and Huawei Ascend P7, started (quite simultaneously) to have battery issues. They both are on the stock rom and are not rooted. To sketch the degree of the issue: the Huawei had about 40% after 7 hours standby with 3 minutes screen on time. The Samsung lost 65% in one night just being idle.
At first we thought it were the phones that were having the issues, so we returned the Huawei to the shop (about 40 kilometers away). The people of the shop called yesterday, saying that the phone is lying in the shop for over 3 days now, still having 40% percent of battery. This made us think it was something with the antennas here in the neighbourhood.
In the mean time we had already bought a new battery for the Samsung (an original Samsung battery), and I have performed a factory reset. The battery still drains quite heavily when airplane mode isn't enabled. However, last night the Samsung still lost over 15% with airplane mode enable and all recent apps killed.
I completely lost track about what the issue can be. To me it seems that the fact that the phones started having issues at the same time is caused by an external factor. But in that case, I cannot explain the 15% overnight battery drain on the S4 Mini on airplane mode with a new battery. Should I return the Galaxy S4 Mini to Samsung to have it looked at and fixed, or should I try some other things first?
If anyone wants some more information about the issue or the devices, I'll happily provide it.
Thanks in advance!
Note: It is not my intention to root the S4 Mini or push settings to the limit to have 0% battery drain, I just want 1 or 2 days of battery life again, depending on the usage.
Edit: There are also a OnePlus One and Galaxy Gio being used in our house, who do not seem to have severe issues. This confuses me even more about the external factors (antenna failure?) that might be draining the battery. We all have the same provider...
There are many ways to save your battery life:_
some of them are as follows:---
***Go to recovery and clear cache this will help improve the battery.. Use clean master from play store, which will disable / stop unwanted apps, clear app cache.
***Try using Greenify
***I recommend GSAM battery monitor app from play store. It's very easy to understand and is very good at locating battery issues.

In settings>battery check your mobile network signal of last night and see if there is any app that is sucking your battery.
You should try greenify but you need root access.
Thanks for your answers. If the problems do not get solved I will indeed try some of those apps (I've used Greenify earlier, I know it's great )
I've monitored the apps draining the battery, and in fact there aren't many apps that use a lot of battery. It's mostly the screen or mobile radio active, which makes me think it's something antenna related.
I've spoken to my neighbour who is a customer of the same provider, and he indicated he has issues to since a few weeks. I mailed to my provider and see how things turn out
Thanks for your tips!

Yeah i also think the problem is in network quality, you should try another sim for some time and see the difference.

Tips for newbie - battery life

Hey!
I am the owner of this phone for a few days, everything is almost perfect but there is one thing that bothers me much. I'm talking of course about the battery life. My previous phone was the Sony Xperia Z2 and on Z2 battery life was better than on S6, really. After one year of using Z2, battery was so great, that at the end of the day I have 40%, but... mobile Internet was always enabled, awesome. Today my S6 was in my pocket about two hours, mobile internet enabled, I took the phone to my hands and... 10% battery is gone, why? I don't know. Maybe wakelocks, but i don't want root my phone, not now. For a 3 days of using the phone, I could ONLY to use it up to four hours a screen on. For me, this is tragic. New phone, which can not stand whole day in the pocket.
I never have samsung, so I would ask for any tips which will allow me to extend battery life without rooting. I've read most of the guides on xda but most of them are such obvious things like turn off location services etc. Perhaps thre are things which I don't know.
Thanks guys for reply!

In battery settings, enter optimizing apps and change all apps to always optimizing! Use a dark or black theme like BlackSky or Weyo! Download package disabler pro app and disable bloats without needing root! Mobile data and WiFi use a lot of battery for this phone for unknown reasons or bugs.. And the S6 has $#¡tty battery life indeed! The battery will never be as good as the Xperias! Only 'compensation' is the super fast charging!
Enjoy your S6 and forget the battery issue as ultra powersaving is always here! At 1%, UPS helps for an extra 4-6 hours!!

Thank you so much i'ill enjoy this phone, but you know, my eyes are always on this %
I'm at somewhat of a loss on what to think about battery life on this phone. It seems inconsistent from model to model in my limited experience. I had an at&t sgs6 - 920A. I gave it to another employee so I could get a 920F international with unlocked bootloader. I should state that I'm now rooted but prior to rooting the 920f everything was identical from phone to phone. I used smart switch to backup and restore. App optimizations ran over a week or so and after all was said and done, this international version seems to have a lot less battery than the at&t version. It wasn't at&t's software either because I had it all disabled with package disable app. Instead of having 50-60% at the end of the day I now have 30-40%. Not really sure what's going on...
