Need recommendations for Holster case - Galaxy S 5 Accessories

Looking for a case/holster combo that can withstand kitchen environments, as my dad is a chef (oil, water, etc.). Was thinking of the otterbox defender, but asking for other opinions. Let me know!

Might be worth hanging on for the lifeproof fre for the s5 since liquids are involved that can get behind the screen saver that's built into the upper shell. This will just end up in the daily removal of the silicone then un clipping the shell. The lifeproof doesn't come with a holster. Holster with with similar protection case would be a siedo obex combo. Both these case's are still in development as far as I am aware.

Case with some grip that can slide into my pocket?

I find that cases that are all silicon are very difficult to put in my pocket. Any cases are a combination hard / grippy that can still fit in jeans pockets?
Otterbox Commuter will slide in and out easily.
Trident Aegis will slide in and out with a bit more effort.
I got a tpu plastic off ebay I really like it. It's not rubbery in a way that would give your pocket issues

I see that you have both cases. Thanks for the comparison. I bought the otterbox because I was concerned that the aegis would get annoying sliding in and out of my pocket. Hopefully the otterbox has at least some extra grip from the bare phone.

Do you feel like the phone / case fits in the belt holster a bit loosely? It doesn't seem as secure as the one I had for my GS3?
Curious what others think?

well i cant compare as this fits good for me
I also just got the defender and it does fit the phone very nice. But I don't like how it fits in the holster, it feels secure but almost imposable to get it snapped in on the first try or without having to look to get it aligned. Once in the holster it's also difficulty to remove as the release point is on the top, if you have it rotated on your belt.
I'm currently using the Platinum case with holster from Best Buy which is the same as the Seidio surface combo. No where the protection as the Otterbox but very easy to snap in and out the holster.
I'll keep looking for a little ore protection with an easy belt clip function.

get otterbox.
**edit
look into the trident kraken series for s4
I will say otterbox did a better job with the screen ptotector this time. It fits the phone very good

I had a question with the defender case. When you guys first got the case did u notice there were bubbles between the screen and the screen protector? Do they eventually disappear? Attached is a picture of it. (Sorry for bad lighting)

Ballistic Aspira vs OtterBox Commuter

I bought my S4 with a Ballistic Aspire case, and it's done a fantastic job for the last two months protecting my phone. But after my phone took a disgusting fall on my garage floor, I'm starting to think a hard plastic case might not be a bad idea.
My question is: Is the OtterBox Commuter a worthy upgrade from my current case or am I better off saving the money?
Product pages for each case are below:
http://www.goballisticcase.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s-4-ballistic-aspira-series-case'
http://www.otterbox.com/Galaxy-S4-Commuter-Series-Case/sam4-galaxy-s4,default,pd.html
Wouldnt the hard plastic just transfer all the force to the phone?
The hard plastic has a tough silicone membrane in between it and the phone which absorbs the impact. I have the commuter and the uag case. I think the uag will protect better bc it's got reinforced corners which when you drop a phone it hits the most but I do like the color choices of the otter box. I'm a case hoard and just bought the element eclipse case so I will be selling my black uag and green/black commuter combo. Pm me if interested.

Otterbox has a case replacement guantee that i like.
If u trying to keep ur phone slim then keep the one u got. The commuter case is huge but it adds alot more protection then the ballistic case

Let's talk Otterbox.

I have a pink/grey commuter case from otterbox. I have loved otterbox since my first case years ago. I may be off here but it seems to me they're getting a little shotty quality wise. My rubber seems to turn brown and attract every piece of dirt within a mile of it and now, I have just found, the pink has bled into the white on my phone and stained it. Is this the phone or the case being substandard here? I do love otterbox but I'm thinking its time to move on. What case can I look to for the same protection and reliability? What's the best/worst phone case in your opinion?

I'm a big fan of the Spigen Slim Armor and Spigen Neo Hybrid cases for this phone. High quality, fits like a GLOVE, not bulky at all, look great, and don't have the big lips like the otterbox that make dragging down the notification panel a hassle. Check out their site but buy from amazon, I think you can get the slim armor on amazon for less than 15 bucks at the moment.
I use an otterbox commuter for my s4 and it doesnt interfere with notifications panel at all.(that happens in the s2 commuter case)
Dunno about other colors but my black is holding up pretty good to daily abuse.

Using Spiegen Slim Armor and View.
He gives better design but I'm thinking the Otterbox have better protection if you drop it unfortunately.
Well it's dépend if you take care about your phone or not.

These cases are built for war to thick for me. I tried it for a week and ordered me a smaller case. These cases are perfect for people who drop there phone alot there well built but I rather have an extended battery and a case if I'm gonna make my phone this bulky.

Otterbox makes my phone feel like a brick so I went with spigen neo hybrid. Complete coverage and a little lip.

Just got a gift from a friend, Otterbox Commuter for S4, everything looks fine but the cutout for charging below the case seems not so accurate.
After the disaster which is the S3 Otterbox Defender, I have refused to recommend any Otterbox product to anyone. (the silicon would just keep stretching out of shape)
My GF's S3 Commuter fared slightly better with none of the silicone issues but the plastic shell cracked the first time she dropped the phone...
Fast forward to today... we're both using S4s and couldn't be happier with our Ballistic SG Maxxes. Truly a marvelous case which takes impacts and drops like a champ! The design of the S4 version is a little skimpy up top though but so far so [email protected]
I work in construction so I have a Defender on my s4. Holding up great so far. Thinking about picking up another smaller case for weekends.

Spigen Slim Armor
I have been using the Otterbox Commuter cases over the last year and have been really happy with them. However I recently got the Blue Spigen Slim Armor and it is really impressive how it fits, quality of construction, buttons are easy to push, fits perfect and looks are better than anything I have seen thus far. Plus it matches my Grabber Blue Mustang GT. hahaha Really impressed with it.:good: So far it is the best case I have had on any phone in the last 10 years.
I really like my green commuter. It fits well and looks pretty cool. The construction of the case seems very tight; on some past otterboxes, it's seemed a bit "stretchy" and not as formfitting right out of the box, but this one is very nicely done. My only gripe was the charger cutout was too small, but a kitchen knife and some diligence solved that problem rather quickly.

I had a similar problem with the charging port on my marine/dark blue commuter case. I didn't want to carve up the case, so I just ground the plug down a little with my dremel tool. I figured if I screwed it up I could always get another OEM charger. So far it works fine. I ground down to metal, but a quick check with Galaxy Charging Current shows that my charge values are unaffected. Is this a common problem with the Otterbox Commuter?
My first thought was that I got a fake one, but the box had the hologram sticker on top, website on back, sku sticker on bottom. The silicone lining seems firm and tight with no sagging. Most of the fake vs real videos on youtube stressed the cheap and floppy silicone lining in the fake Otterboxes. Mine seems fairly stiff and fits well.
I was originally eyeing off the commuter cases but after reading the whole screen cracking thread, I went with the defender. This is possibly the best case I've ever had on a smartphone. The plastic inside shell is fairly sturdy which I love because I carry my phone in my pocket all the time and I was worried about having torsion dmg.
P.S: I'm also looking at getting the neon blue spigen slim armor but I'm still not convinced on the sturdiness yet. I so do not want to have to go through samsung warranty for anything. ~_~

Hmmm...so sad, Casemate tough not the same!

I had casemate toughs on both my S2 & S3 and the S4 version just doesn't provide the same protection.
The hard shell on the previous version came up to protect the rim and thereby I could place phone screen down effectively on hard case. S4 version has rubber only above rim.....
Any alternatives?

UAG.
You can tell they have shifted focus from protective cases to shiny ****ty ones by looking at their website. Real shame I loved the tough case. All the designer **** is terrible.

UAG won't do it for me as it's a one piece case, the whole reason the CMT was the dogs was the rubber inner and seperate hard shell outer.
This allows some compression/deceleration if a drop occurs and that can make the difference between cracked or working LCD.
Any other alternates?

try the spigen neo hybrid, I have it and it's not bad, just doesn't play well with non stock chargers. The spigen ultra slim isn't bad either. just got that.

Well then let me know if you find a better alternative. I was a Tough user for my S2 too, loved it. I am gonna pull the plug on the UAG in a week if I don't find any better. Spigen cases (all of them) are horrible, I want 'protection', not show off!
The Trident Aegis is my case of choice. Rubber inner and polycarbonate shell.

The seidio convert case is pretty nice. Its actually 2 cases in one so if you dont feel like having the rugged case say if youre at home you can take it off and have the minimalist case underneath. Cant remember the name for that case tho haha.

In the end I've gone with the Otterbox Defender.
A bit chunkier then I'd like to be honest but it provides proper protection and for my very expensive phone that's what's important.
Defender? Wow, that's so heavy according to some people. How much extra weight does it add? Can you in/out the phone from pocket easily? I don't mean coat/blazer pocket.
I am using a seidio active, it is very protective but not too huge.

commuter is the best !
Commuter or Element Atom
Siedo acrive is too the nice case to go for.....
If you use the Defender without the belt clip there's no problems putting it into or taking it out of your pocket. I don't notice the extra weight to be honest but that could be because I'm 6' 2" and a big guy.
For me protection comes first and looks second, honestly I can't understand people who'd risk a $600+ ($1000 for me) loss + all the inconvenience for the sake of it looking marginally better.
Of course I don't want it to look like rubbish but protection always first.

I have the Cygnett Workmate Evolution and Commuter but prefer the Cygnett over the Commuter.
