Moto g root - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to root Verizon moto g without unlocking the bootloader?

No. We're stuck with a stock phone until someone figures out how to get the bootloader unlocked.

Rooting boost mobile moto G

Hey guys I just got this phone since my daughter dropped my S3 in the toilet.
I've been searching and went to the Motorola site to unlock boot loader but it said I can't do it.
Is there any way to root it and install a custom ROM? I keep reading but don't understand :/ I would appreciate the help!!
Thanks

Can someone build a cm11 Verizon based ROM?

If I submit a system dump can it be done? I need it for my boost moto g on page plus.

Its not a xt1028 its the boost variant. But running the Verizon stock few for page plus. No custom Roms work for page plus without enabling roaming so I'm stuck with vzw stock. Let me know if it is possible

If you wanted you can go to the stock rom page and use the verizon rom as the source.

But that's just an idea, I have no idea if that would help.

Android 4.4.3

I know the nexus just got the 4.4.3. Waiting for when it's available for the moto G. But I've read the 4.4.3 has some difficulty or cause problems with root. If this is the case will I lose root if I update. Or should I go back to stock do the update and root again.
I appreciate any info...

4.4.3 and up is going to keep having root problems so i would wait and stick with 4.4.2 and Wait till its safe.
I intend to do that. Until I hear otherwise. Thanks for the reply.

yeah i just saw it myself, sadly i have the Verizon Variant of the moto x and only the T-mobile moto x got the update xD.
My concern is it safe to get the ota while I have root. Or if I gotta go back to stock and have to root again. I thought I had read that the 4.4.3 was gonna have difficulty with root.

not sure yet, since every model of the Moto G can have its boot-loader unlocked, im sure that 4.4.3 will be rooted very soon even with the difficulties if the OTA removes your root, i would just go with it.

Ya its not a bad phone at all think I might just buy the new Motorola g off Motorola.com the bootloaders are unlockable on them and there bigger and only 179.99
Is it just something with 4.4.4 or can we go back to like 4.3 or 4.2.2 or whatever it first came with and then unlock the boot loader that way?

Its something about att/cricket not allowing bootloaders to unlock because of custom roms and rooting for tethering wifi on em but yeah ill stick with this phone for a while and buy the new G

[Q] Bootloader Unlock??

Has anyone successfully unlock the bootloader on the Verizon Moto G XT1028??
I tried the Motorola website where I successfully unlocked the Moto X but I got an error. Is there any other way?
Nope. Nothing short of a Chinese middleman or another exploit will save the xt1028.

Well I mean technically we could root it without bootloader unlock, but there are no *publicly* known exploits. There is a 4.4.4 root method for the X, and if I'm not mistaken this could be ported to this device but I guess no one really wants to do it
