I just downloaded this app called Gaana. It's an Indian music app that allows you to download and listen to music. I want to play music downloaded from this app with other music apps (shuttle+). But I can't find the directory where it is saving all the songs. Can someone tell me where this app is saving all the music?
Songs caching on Gaana
When you download songs on Gaana app, they are stored on the device but are DRM protected so they are accessible only from Gaana application. You cannot take them out of Gaana app.

There is no way around this?
Do This.....
Gaana allow us to play the downloaded songs in their app only...But we can change this and can get downloaded files
Open ES File Explorer and enable Show hidden files ON ....
go to ANDROID/data/com.gaana
U will find one folder files open that
They are your downloaded files .........
Select one file by long holding ,,then mark all by using select all(top right coener tick mark) option and tap RENAME(below) in that select "rename extension name" type .mp3 and hit OK and u can move all these files to a folder wherever u want
now you can play this files in ur default player ..
But the problem is in ur player u wont see the names and album arts for these songs n it'll be PIUA I hope I helped u:angel::good:
Theres an app by Airtel called Wynk Music which you should also check out for listening free, they seem to have whatever I search for (and not just Hindi)
But you cannot download songs unless you purchase which I haven't tried. If you are on Airtel you can make a song your hello tune too.
location of gaana app downloaded songs

Hi,
the location is accurate. this is where it used to be. but i think they have now upgraded the app and changed the location.
i tried searching all the folders but i could not find the files now.
has any one else been successful getting the files then please share the location.
how to identify drm files in wynk app, I think I have the location but I am not able to copy or rename any of the file.
Any updates guys?
Need Rooted Now
Now file are in root folder. All you need is rooted device and app call "root explorer". Go on youtube and get your device rooted. Files are in root-data-data-com.gaana-files
These files are saved in the form of numeric numbers. Copy them on your pc or just play on your device using player. Solid drawback is you need to rename all song names because numbers are given to the files.
Im using upgraded only

FOUND SUCCESSFULLY (IN MY ROOTED DEVICE).!
GET UR DEVICE ROOTED. OPEN ES FILE EXPLORER & GET THE ROOT PERMISSION (i.e. turn on the root access) & ALSO TURN ON THE 'SHOW HIDDEN FILES ' OPTION. NOW GO TO SDCARD->ANDROID ->DATA-> COM.GAANA->FILES. THAT'S IT!!!! THERE YOU WILL FIND ALL THE SONGS WHICH ARE ONLY NUMBERED :victory:

I tried it and there is nothing in that folder. Gave it roote permission and hidden files and still nothing there.
can location be set to external sd card?
This works fine. Found the files. could rename and play on device media player.
But this app eats up internal memory. Is there any way to move the storage to External SD card?

I had the same issue for my MOTO G.
My problem was, I downloaded around 250mb of songs through the app but could not play it in the music player other than the app!
Solution:
Download an app named "Memory Usage" and see which folder is consuming big size. Open it and see each file size ( normally 4-6 mb) to confirm its the same folder used by the app for songs storage
>>find your folder and extract it through es explorer.
Just follow the other user's comments for extraction
Thanks
Thanks for the help. Did find the file in Android/ Data/ com.gana/files with help of EZ exlporer.

with the help of "es explorer" ofcourse... In ES explorer, setting choose "show hidden files"... than it finds the file numbered files there...
To find it via PC cable though you have to rename the ".gaana" folder to "gaana" folder via "es explorer" only.... thanks hope this helps

I have some music files I copied to the "Music" directory of my Note. The stock player won't find them. They are all MP3 files. I downloaded a trial of PowerAmp and that won't find them either. I have the card (a 64GB) formatted as FAT32. If I use root explorer I can find and play them manually. Is there a music app I can download that will open and list them normally or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
Silly question but did you put a .nomedia file into the directory these songs reside. If there is a .nomedia file then the music players won't see anything in there no matter what, neither will any other media app, video or pictures won't be found by their respective apps until you use a file explorer to oen them manually...
You may need to go to settings in your file manager and allow to see hidden files....

Thanks for your response!
Yes I saw when searching for a solution that some apps might install such a file but it's not there. I'm rooted and use Root Explorer and made sure that hidden files are viewable. Interesting also that RockPlayer does see and play the files. Any other suggestions? I did also use CWM recovery to clear the Davlik Cache, and also cleared data from media storage in app settings and rebooted without luck. Thanks.
Well I've read a good number of articles online about setting your own ringtone on the Apollo - none of which work on this G3 Modded phone for some reason?
I cannot write a new folder called media on the internal SD card - it will not let me.
I can write a new folder called media on the ext_SD card but it will only allow me to put one folder inside....
No matter what I try, the phone will only look at reading the media folder in the system for the default ringtones...
So, does anybody have any idea how to choose your own ringtone and notification?

If you have root you can push your ringtones to system/media/audio/rintones (or system/media/audio/notifications for notifications).

Try using root explorer, at the top right corner there will be mount R/W button just press it when you will be in system/media/audio/rintones and you should be able to copy. The same with notifications.

Well I managed to get Root Browser installed onto the phone - then although I could transfer the files finally, the system wouldn't see them as .mp3 files.
Converted them online to .ogg and the system still couldn't see them...when selecting ringtone etc.
Rebooted phone as a last effort and all is now well :silly:
I'm not so sure why this is so difficult really - it was all very simple on the previous non-Smart phone from ZTE :cyclops:
Thanks for the help

Recently bought one plus one in India , was trying to customize the ringtone by using mp3 songs. But read in one of the forum that need to copy mp3 file in Ringtone folder and you will be able to see it in system ringtone's list.
But in my case the ringtones folder is in
/system/media/audio/ringtones
which is not allowing me to add any files , since do not have permission to write on this folder.
Please advice..
Is this the right folder to copy the desired mp3 file or have to copy somewhere else.?
If this is the right folder, how to set the permission to copy any files.
Following are few details about my phone
Android versio
4.4.4
model A0001
cyanogen OS 11
Thanking you in advance.
Cheers !!

What message are you getting when trying to add the files and what are you using to try and do so? I can copy and paste an mp3 to the folder using es file explorer, changing the mp3's permissions to rw-r-r, then reboot and you can select it from the settings>sound>ringtones menu. You should be able to just set an mp3 from other programs, like shuttle music player, just click on the 3 dot menu on a track and you have an option to set as phone ringtone.
The file path you should be using is /sdcard/ringtones. The other path you are trying to copy them into needs root permissions to write, as that is the system ringtones folder. If you are rooted, then you would be able to write them in there.

Hi guys! I have an Xperia Z3 D6633 running on official Android version 6.0.1 with build number 23.5.a.1.291 rooted. My problem is that almost 5.0 GB of my internal storage is consumed by ".thumbnails" folder which I want to delete. I have searched some solutions and found out that normally people get some free space till these files reappear and in the mean time they can make this space useful but the case is different here. I have tried to delete this folder and all the containing files but even though the folder disappears for some time, I still don't get any free space even for a short time and the files start to reappear after some time. I don't have any Gallery other than the Album app and as it cannot be deleted, I have tried disabling but the problem still remains. I have also tried creating a new folder with the same name but the system would rename it to ".thumbnails 1" and another folder with the name ".thumbnails" would reappear . I had the same problem also with Lollipop on this device. I use FILE KOMMANDER, it is the system app.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Try MiXplorer from XDA (file commander isnt so good) then delete the .thumbs folder
Try Ccleaner from play store
Try SD Maid from play store
Try clearing data from Settings - apps - Media Storage (all your media will appear to be gone. It is still there but the phone wont see it until you reboot / download and run Media.re.scan from play store)
I wouldn't really know what else to suggest other than a clean install of your ROM even if it is stock as this seems like a bug

FYI .thumbnails folder will always exist to make android media work properly, easiest method is delete those folder (.thumbnails) then create file named .thumbnails
In my case I'm using es file explorer, best file manager ever for me
You should accept all consequences, app that using photo preview from Android Media will not show or buggy (ie. Instagram, Facebook)

I need to modify a folder under the data folder in android, I can navigate to it but don't have write access. I wish to do this without having to root my phone. I have tried various folder programs and no luck. There should be a trick out there. Please help!!! TIA
Unless there's some trick(s) I don't know of yet, which is possible as I have fallen off the rooting scene after I rooted my S6 Edge Plus but things were a lot different then, as far as I know that's a big No
What folder is it?

I tried and I get this error
Use a file manager app that has access, such as File Manager +
Locate the folder of the app which you get permission denied prompt when pasting files or folders inside. Rename that folder to something similar. Create a new folder with the original folder name. Now paste everything inside. Run the app.
