Hi all,
I've been digging around this website and google trying to find my answer. However i did come across a solution but it didn't work on my Galaxy S. So i decided to start this thread and hopefully you guys can help me out.
The Problem...
I was flashing my Galaxy S this morning from I9000XXJP3 (2.2) to I9000XWJS3 (2.2.1). As usual you load your 512.pit and the I9000XWJS3.tar, at this point I am pretty sure i didn't not tick 'Re-partition'. Any ways after it went through and odin work its magic and showed up with a green window with the word "PASS". My Galaxy S switched off after "Downloading mode" (Yellow triangle sign with black robot digging with shovel).
now i cannot get it to switch on. I tried 3 button combo, "Jigg" cable (300k ohms), tried plugging it into power outlet and tried this "NO-BOOT PHONE" guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-848737.html
I'm running out of ideas. I've been reading many forums and people say it is really hard to brick but some how i think i managed it.
Cheers all for your cooperation.
Has your jig worked before? Maybe the resistors' was just too much.
Also try taking everything out, waiting a while, then putting everything (battery, SIM, SD card) back in.
I wish you luck!
@AmandeepG
Yeah the Jigg worked before. You were right! i had to leave it out for a while.
Cheers dude. btw this is my first post how do i make this resolved?

No idea how to set it as resolved. But glad you got it working! Just curious, was it a Captivate, Vibrant, Epic, etc?

We don't use CDMA in Australia, so we don't get a range of different versions of the Galaxy S, we use HSPDA and GSM, so its a Samsung GT i9000 i guess you could call it International version~?
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9000_galaxy_s-3115.php
This method has also worked for me. After it has freezed on odin i closed it but later my phone did not open, did not react to any buttons. It was like a black metal box. After waiting a while i put SIM and Sd Card it entered to download mod.
I think while i was waiting i had prayed a lot. That should be the reason. I will be a good guy and i will not mess with my galaxy s.
hello there,
yesterday i've flashed an JB rom, it works very well, i install all my stuff and sygic from the play store .
when i try to download additional data for sygic, the image on the screen doubled, like a screenshot on the active screen with 2 or 3 pixels on the right .
so i pull out battery and pull it in and try to reboot, but nothing, not even a light on screen or on softkeys.
and i noticed if i leave the battery in it, the phone become warm in 5 minutes, like it was running .
does anyone have a clue to save this one ?
sorry for my english, i'm french
Damn... this is like 5 bricks within a week that I know of. Nexus S are dropping like flies.

Try some of the following:
-Leave the battery out for a few hours, press the power button a few times before putting the battery back in and then try to boot
-Adam's Unbrickable (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397393)
first, thanks for your reply guys,
so, does you mean battery is dead or something ?
and i try unbrickable software, but device is not detected, so i ask its developers to have information about the hardware mod, still no answer .
or maybe i do something bad trying to use this tool ?
This sounds a lot like what happened to my NS earlier this week. Here's a link to my post about what happened: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844034
I originally thought it was a battery problem, but my wife and I both have a NS so I tried her battery in mine and it still didn't work. Also, my battery worked fine in hers.

yeah, i've seen your post early today while searching solutions.
does anyone know how to use the unbrickable tool ? in his post, the dev says something and in the software says something else !?!
i finally apply the hardware mod on my own, use the unbrickable tool , but now, i have search and home key lighted so what to do next on linux ?
Hi every one
I Have the same Problem ... I Formatted my phone from Jelly Bean recovery. finished and then when I restart my phone it doesn't boot any more. no boot loader. now my phone is off and when i switch it on, nothing apear. PLEASE HELP Me, it's so painful. ((((((((((
sorry for my bad english
So, while I'm no expert I'm not new to rooting and flashing. Did it quite a bit on my older Droid Inc 1, and have performed a few on my new SG3.
I have 3 backed up ROMs on my SD, Synergy, Beans and CM10. I was running Synergy and decided to give CM10 another shot to see if I could figure out what was killing NFC. So, flashed it up with ROM Manager (Used Odin previously) and everything went swimmingly. ROM was running, NFC was working, all my apps were reinstalled, no problems.....
Decided to see if I could get Wallet working on this install, so flashed it in, made the changes to build.prop and rebooted.
Heeerreeee's where the trouble started. Part way through the reboot the phone just shut down. Completely. 100%. Dead.
I had 87% battery when I started so it 'shouldn't be a battery problem. No power, no LED when I plug in the charger, no vol-up, home, power to get into recovery.
One interesting thing did happen while I was trying to get the phone up, I removed the battery for a bit, and plugged the USB cable in and got a red charging light. Put the battery back in, light still there. 1 minute later, light goes off and still nothing happening with the phone at all.
Anyone have any ideas beyond all the stuff I've given a shot to?
Will it show up when plugged in on your CPU?

Unfortunately not. Only thing that seems to show up is in the device manager, a QHSUSB_DLOAD device that's banged.

Well, I called Verizon and they've shipped me a replacement. I guess throwing all my bit and pieces into a new main body should work fine...
Oh no. Another one sending a phone back because of rooting. That's why they lock bootloaders.

Have you tried borrowing someone's battery to see if you can also least boot? I have four samsung batteries for the S3 and would consider sending it to you before getting a replacement. I think the cost of a battery is $3 on Amazon.

The reasons were different but i had the same thing happen to me, my phone wouldn't boot, wouldn't show up in the computer. Nothing, i tried my wife's battery, no change there either. I left it on the charger overnight and tried turning it on in the morning and after messing with it it came back on. Haven't had an issue since. Don't know what caused it, the phone just freaked out, turned off and wouldn't turn back on.
You can also try the resistor trick to see if that will bring your phone back. Here is a cheap way to do it.
http://hackaday.com/2012/09/03/saving-a-bricked-phone-with-a-pencil-lead/ Otherwise you can go to radio shack and pick up a resistor.
If Verizon sends you your phone back cause you messed with it, there is a brick repair service for like $60 bucks PM for the link if it comes to that.
Congrats on the new phone

hehe.. I can't say I was pleased with having to go that route, (can't stand being defeated by electronics) but all in all I can't imagine a simple software change causing the entire unit to just go dead. Not booting properly, or locking up and such, sure... but not just dead.
By this morning I had tried another battery (a friend has an SG3 also) to no effect, but I didn't try leaving it plugged in overnight. I did check the battery with an external charger I have and it was showing fully charged....
So, I'll get a replacement and stay away from CM10 at the very least.

Ok, so the new phone got here at about 12:30. Plugged all my stuff into it and it fired right up.
Rooted and unlocked it, put my latest Synergy backup (1 day old) on the SD card and restored it.
Ahhhh... It's just like it never left. :victory:

Same thing happened to me when I tried to mess with the NFC hack on my SGS III.
What saved me was a USB Jig I happened to have handy when I...accidentally... soft bricked a friend's Samsung Captivate a few months back. The USB Jig is used to put the SGS III into download mode when all else fails that tiny little gadget saves the day.

I have looked into those and will most likely make one very soon. (I think I have everything I'd need, just may need to cobble some resistors together).
Couple of things I noticed throughout this 'process', regarding the CM10 (9-15 nightly) ROM, NFC and google wallet....
At first install of CM10 I noticed that NFC was active and working normally. It could read my tags without issue. After Wallet was installed though, NFC disappeared. It wasn't just disabled, it simply wasn't there any more. It was after noticing this that I decided to reboot, at which point my original problem started.
The reboot never came close to completing though, it shut down before it actually made it to the 'boot' phase, as in, while it was shutting down.
The actual cause of the power off is still a mystery to me, as I can't see a simple app change causing hardware failure.
So you bricked your phone, just like a few of us did yesterday.
What did you call Verizon saying in order for them to send you a new phone?

I told them what happened, just left out a few bits of info.
"I rebooted it, and it never came back on." and that was that.
Nice.
I should have gone that method, but ended up paying for the repair service from MobileTechVideos
A friend has the qhsusb-dload showing up as well.. phone won't turn on.. flashed a bad kernel or rom I forget which.. red light comes on.. that's it.. its a Verizon i535 .. tried the resistor jig and nothing happens.. any ideas to fix?

Guess he had aokp rom then flashed neak kernel and that's when it died..
****** PROBLEM SOLVED ******
"I decided to buy a new battery from Amazon which didn't cost that very much. My phone is back to normal so it was my battery I'm guessing like the battery exploded because it felt all lumpy & stuff."
** Thank you everyone who left suggestions & answers to help me with my problem much appreciated! **
Okay I've recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S 4G for about 2 weeks now & I am currently having some problems with my phone. I'm not sure if its my phone or the ROMs that I am flashing. The problem that I am having is that when I'm using my phone that has a full battery my phone just shuts off completely. I turn it back in on the battery is almost dying so I charge the phone. When its done charging I unplug it & continue to use my phone, but for some reason it keeps turning off on me. I can't use my phone at all because of this the only way I can use my phone is if its plugged in to charge. I thought maybe it was the ROM that I am using which was Valhalla FINAL so I flashed it again & I get the same result. So, I decided to download a different ROM which was HebrewValhalla3.5_AROMA & guess what I get the same result. I really want to use my phone, but I can't so if someone can please help I would really appreciate it very much!
So what do you think could be the problem is it the ROMs that I am flashing or what? Please give me some tips & what ROMs do you recommend? I really need anyone's help...Thanks

It's the battery.
Battery.....can buy em all day long @Amazon.com for $5.00
It can't be the battery because it works normal when my phone is not rooted
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Its not the battery my phone works fine when it isn't rooted.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
So you unrooted it and it works fine now?
Yeah it works fine like normal when it isn't rooted, but when I root it again it does the same thing
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Well if you really wanna find where the problem is, assuming it's not the battery, try running on stock unrooted for a day, then flash just a rooted kernel, and then try a full rom.
Okay I will try that, but what would you recommend I'm kinda new to this stuff.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
You should read this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G
I would have to say its not Valhalla final because i am running it with no problems. I have 1day 12hrs 35mins on a single charge. With 38% left on battery. Simply rooting your phone would not cause massive battery issues. Gotta be something more going on.
just wanted to chime in. i was having the same issue, but my sgs4g has been rooted with froyo 2.2.1 since i took it to a guy to root it for me(i had bricked my first one ha!) when KD1 was still the thang. and just a few months ago i started having this problem out of no where, just as used described it op, except i haven't been flashing anything on or off it, and i thought it had to do with a shetty app i had installed. i put a 'new' battery in and had the same issue, eventually the new battery(which was a very sensitive 1500mAh i bought for $20 at a local phone spot) blew up when a gf sat on me while it was in my pocket. the batteries seem really sensitive, there's a warning label to not apply pressure to the battery and it's easy to do with the sgs4g. anyway i went out and bought a 900mAh from best buy for 40 bucks :"""( but it works fine now. battery slowly creeps to zero like its supposed to. i haven't flashed anything or changed anything app-wise, still rooted.
when i was having this problem i also found that there's a battery calibration app for when you flash a new rom, but it didn't help me. worth a shot when you flash a new rom though i reckon.
hope that helps!
Sensitive? Really? Lmao
That's a load of crap.
I have 4 batteries that i charge on a continuous basis with an external charger and 2of them have been thru hell and back and still work as good as new. And for your info battery calibration apps do nothing good for your battery.
I'm not saying they don't go bad cuz I've had several that have....but sensitive? I'm not buyin that.
I am an ironworker and keep my extra batteries in my pocket all day every day and always have one in the charger.
As for rooting your phone causing the battery problems.....not buyin that either....that my friend is in your head....or there's more to it than your telling us.

It's possibly the vibrate motor. It's not unheard of for them to go out.

+1. Hardware issue.
Still Charged Up
sounds like a personal problem - wore out your vibrator... j/k
never heard of that though - have you tried reflashing the ROM or resetting your sound settings?
tried everything but refreshing back from ep4. I was really hoping it wasn't hardware. wtf do I do now? haha
If you rule everything else out and it is the motor, it can be replaced if you don't mind a little disassembly. It's typically one of the easier repairs to do. In most phone, it's just a little round, flat cylinder, about the size of a small watch or hearing aid battery, clipped to the motherboard and connected by two wires.
how much would that cost and where do I buy the motor?
I'm pretty sure the motor is actually integrated (as in soldered) onto the board. Assuming you can actually find the motor, it's going to be a PITA desoldering and soldering that sucker. Why not just get your Charge replaced?

What I have done. (I also have insurance)
ODIN with PIT
In the middle of re-partitioning with the PIT pull the plug and disconnect all battery sources.
When you turn it back on It will say to connect to the computer and download mode will not
work... Take it to the store and tell them that the vibrate alert stopped working. You checked
to see if there was an update and there was. Take the update and then this showed up. Works
every time for me >.< Any time I frail up my phone I incorrectly PIT it and make an excuse to
get another one bahaha

THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE THINGS.
But yeah, that'll work, but make up some other excuse than taking the update, FP5 is too mature for this to work, but then again a VZW employee likely wouldn't know on a phone this old.

I've had my charge since the day after it came out haha waiting on the s4 to upgrade I don't think they'll give me any more charges (I'm on #4). But not having vibrate sucks. I did hear that swap was doing this to some people and I have swap activated, I'm going to try that out for size, will report back
so i don't think replacing my charge is a possibility (unless I pull the this phone is f#@$!ng terrible card) which I'm not in the mood to do. Also, disabling swap did not help wiped dalvik also just in case that could affect anything. I was scared my phone stopped accepting charge and was about to re-partition my phone last night but it was 4am and my phone decided to work again so that's probably the last thing I can do and I'll do it when I've got some free time this weekend and report back for anyone having this same issue.
on a semi-related note what are you guys planning on upgrading to? I want to wait for the moto x but would rather get the S4 because I like what samsung has been doing with extra features in their version of android, but also the HTC M7 looks super appealing and its not mumbo jumbo like the s4
