The following are instructions that I have come up with to unlock the "Unknown Sources" option on non rooted Android phones that do not have the option available. By unlocking this option you will now have the ability to install non "Android Market" applications such as "TeamViewer" and more
~Warning~
This was performed in a HTC Inspire 4G so results may vary for each phone
THIS PROCESS WILL RESET YOUR CONFIGURED SETTINGS TO THE DEFAULT (Display, Ringtone, Wallpaper, etc.) BUT DO NOT WORRY BECAUSE IT ISN'T PERMANENT. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS RECONFIGURE IT AND ITS WORTH IT IF YOU ARE UNLOCKING THE OPTION "Unknown Sources"
1. Go To Your "Settings"
2. Go To "Applications"
3. Go To "Manage applications"
4. Go To The "All" Tab (or any tab that will display all your apps)
5. Find The Applications "Customization Settings Provider"
6. Click On "Clear data"
7. Go Back To "All" Tab (or any tab that will display all your applications)
8. Find The Program "Settings"
9. Click On "Clear data"
Finished
If You Go Back To "Applications" You Will Now Have The Option To Enable "Unknown Sources"
If It Worked For You Please Submit "Yes" in the poll. If it didn't please submit "No" in the poll. I would also be glad if you submitted a reply to the thread to keep it alive.
~Troubleshooting~
Q. I Can't Change My Wallpaper!
A. Restart Your Phone (Not Shutdown) And You Should Be Able To Change It Now.
Worked like a charm!!! Did it on both my Inspires, had to reset to change wallpapers. Thanks for the tip!!!

Is anyone else unable to send/receive mms or texting? Really want to try this but afraid I'll disrupt some data setting.
Sent from my Desire HD
For those curiouse if this is going to break your MMS or Calls or Data, dont worrie. All this does is clear a "Development Setting" to hide Unknown Resources tab. However you may have to renter some info, such as APNs or Voicemail.

After performing the above I also cannot send MMS. SMS is ok.

I'm super interested in this thread.
The only reason I'm wanting to root my phone is to access more apps. I'm cool with the stock rom and radio, and I will never change to another network. I bet there are a lot of folks in the same boat with me. Maybe someone could develop an app that resets critical AT&T settings after performing gamanunited's steps to enable the unknown sources tab. Then if someone could develop something like crudscraper to get rid of the At&T bloatware, we'd really be in business.
I am receiving a new HTC Inspire form AT&T Monday or Tuesday.
Do you think the phone will already include this sideloading update.

Any fix for mms yet?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
For those who just want to be able to sideload apps, there is a safer way of doing it. But it requires the use of a rooted phone...maybe a friends phone who can loan to you long enough to setup your Google account. You need to setup a specific Google account and sign into it on a rooted phone. Allow it to backup all settings and apps...make sure to install a few non-market apps. Once finished, hard reset your Inspire so that it will set up again like a new phone and sign into the saved Google account. It should restore all system settings and market apps and you will be able to sideload apps. It won't give you the "Unknown sources" checkbox but it will allow you to install non-market apps.
It might help to use an HTC Sense-based rooted phone.
Cheerio
No You don't Need that. All you need is Super One Click and choose the enable Unknown Sources tab. You will not have the check box but you will be able to add 3rd party applications.
This thread has fail written all over it lol

That requires rooting. The process I explained does not required your Inspire to be rooted. You just need to use a rooted phone to make this work.
Superone Click Does not really root the phone. The phones image is protected...This only gives you temporary root which in turns lets you enable Unknown Sources. It works I have been using it for Months. I just wanted to see the Unknown Sources Tab with this fix.
I used SuperOneClick before AT&T pushed me the update. It does not root and it works. No side effects neither. Once you download it you can do it in two minutes then just restart.

Just tried this. Got unknown sources. No HTC wallpaper until restart. SMS works MMS does not. Don't need to send pics that often anyway.
It seems ridiculous....
that you have to lose MMS capability in order download non market apps even though AT&T has an update for this.
So no one has found an apn that will restore mms yet? My wife is angry with me for killing her mms......

Yes, just long press on the provider you would fake, choose your option,
Then, kill market (with taskkiller or long press back button or press 1 000 000 times the back button til the home screan appears) then open market again and now your specific privider is faked!

cant get to work
ive tried it and all i get is t-mobile stuff still. I'm running arhd 2.2.1 which is based on the leaked ics build i believe. I've changed it through the app to different providers and it doesn't do much.
this app looks almost exactly like this one: Market Enabler. From what I saw, the only difference was the icon. It has the exact same markets to choose from.
This is their webpage: Market Enabler webpage. It's minimal, and pretty bare bones.
Other useful information:
Wiki Mobile Network Codes. This gives a list of codes for carriers world wide which can be used in the "set custom"
If this is the same app, then key information to know:
Market Enabler said:
Do I need to donate to get this working?
No, definitly not.
A donate is an appriciation to the developer/s but it's not the same as buying a software.
In case of MarketEnabler, a donate will get you a donate key that removes ads from the application and adds some beta functions that are still in testing.
I donated trough PayPal but haven't received the donate key
Please look into your SPAM folder as it is an automated script that sends you the key.
If you don't get an answer after 24 hours, please email me at .
I only get "we have a problem houston "
Are you sure that you have a working su binary and busybox (or at least the killall command) installed and granted root rights to MarketEnabler when it got requested?
Preconditions
#1 root
To be able to change the systems runtime configuration (what MarketEnabler does) you will need access as a root user to the system.
MarketEnabler expects that you will have a file called "su" on your system (and in the global path) that will open a root shell.
#2 busybox
The commands that are used, are not always part of the Android system.
Most rooted phones have busybox on board as it's common to install it during the rooting process or included in most custom roms.
If you don't have busybox, I recommend using the busybox installer from stericson on the market.

Make sure you kill Google Play Store from "Manage Apps > All" first.
Alternatively, you can do it manually:
1. Kill Google Play Store from "Manage Apps > All".
2. Go to MarketEnabler, under "Set custom" tab, input that specific country market code you wanted to visit.
3. Select "Set to this values".
4. Go to Google Play Store.
5. Enjoy!

Hey, I recently installed AdAway too and noticed my #Animania stopped working as well err... to be precise- it no longer downloads nor plays any videos I wish to watch. I tried to play around with the settings and this seem to have worked:
Open AdAway and select "Your Lists"
Goto White
and Add the following:
play44.net
video44.net
videofun.me
Animania seem to have worked but I'm not sure if it's just my connection - downloading or streaming online is slower than usual

Frustrated Adaway user who has just found it is blocking most of the sites I use!
Solved: Adaway Whitelist
Ok this is how to solve this problem for any app. First turn off the Adaway blocking and reboot the phone. Then go back into Adaway but don't turn on the blocking. Instead tap the dots on the top right and select "Log DNS Requests". Now on this new screen you will see "logging is off" (or something like that) tap that and it will change to "logging turned on" nnow tap "open the log". It should be blank. Now select your recent apps button and scroll to the app you have been having problems with. Run the app to the point that you know it is working. Now go back to Adaway and open the log. You should see a bunch of websites. Long press on the first one and in the popup select "Add to whitelist". Do this for all the addresses. Now turn on Adaway blocking on its main screen and reboot. You should now have a working app and Adaway keeping adds out of the other apps. :good:
AdAway broke the app.
I went in app manager, cleared cache, Force stopped and uninstalled AdAway.
Did the same for the music download app.
Rebooted into recovery, cleared Dalvik and cache in recovery. Rebooted the phone. Reinstalled the download app, and it's still rendered useless.
The only thing that fixes it is to do a complete reinstall of the operating system and apps. before turning on AdAway. (which is what I did...)
I did the above-stated suggestion and it worked until AdAway updated host files again. Now the app is rendered useless again.
Is there any way to remove AdAway cache in root file system? Uninstalling the app doesn't remove these files.
Thanks in advance for any help

Almost all antivirus companies have device tracking enabled through web.if you configured and recalled the data.you can track the location of phone and can remote swipe/sms and many more.I have tested that using kaspersky and NOD32 and webroot.this is the only chance to track else after stolen people throw away SIM,format the phone or change the IMEI so impossible to track back.
I'm using avast! (Free) It has quite an extensive lost/stolen system built into it aswell as all the antivirus stuff. One thing I like about avast! (Not sure who else has this) it has a setting called 'Geo fencing'. Once set, if your phone leaves a, user set, distance from your current point, it automatically locks your phone and triggers any other protection activities, and sends a SMS to a pre-set cell number. Good for night clubs or busy shopping malls incase you get pick pocketed.

Android now has a built in phone locator which can be activated in Settings > Security > Device administrators. Check Android Device Manager.
Uses Google's push service so it doesnt poll battery.
Link to web interface: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
In addition, I use AndroidLost from Play Store. Runs through Google servers so no background usage. Has an advanced plethora of controls on the web interface. Check it out.
Google Device Manager
I have enjoyed using Google Device Manager. It has the ability to ring my phone for 5 mintues so I can find it easier. As well as the ability to locate it. Although like everything else depends on data connection. So if I lost in a park with a dead battery... NO DICE.

AndroidLost supports SMS controls. You could send an SMS message to activate GPS and auto reply the location, or you could send a message to enable WiFi/data and track that way.

agreed, i use android device manager. used to use the samsung version, but now that google offers it then i'll use that one.
I used to use Avast, but now I can just use Google's Device Manager or even CyanogenMod's which is crude for now.
Device manager seems to work well. It allows you to locate the device from another browser using Google maps, allows yo to ring the phone even if it's on vibrate or silent and once set up allows you too lock/erase all data from it.

Actually, this is a really important point. Which of these apps are still able to perform their advertized functions after it is being lost? Supposedly, whoever is in possession of the phone will through out SIM card and do a factory reset so all apps that use google services will not work anymore as they are Signed out... Are apps from antivirus suites immune to this?
This is a tested and working Exchange Security Bypass that I am using on my AT&T LG G3. This mod should work on any variant of LG G3 that is running stock or AOSP ROM's.
All credit goes to the below developer, I was simply looking for a solution to bypass the exchange security policy that required me to have a password or pin on my lockscreen. After several tests using Xposed Framework and other APK's I came across this and it works flawlessly. You can see the developers thread here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965468
DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible if:
• You get caught by your employer and are punished in any way
• This bricks, breaks, scratches, dents, misplaces or cracks your phone
• This security bypass leads to any negative outcome.
USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I have rooted my phone and used Root Browser to perform the following steps (You can use ADB as well, please follow the guide in the link above).
Instructions:
1. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR STOCK EMAIL (LGEmail.apk & LGEmail.odex) - Copy and place it in another folder incase anything happens and you want to revert.
*Stock LG Email is located in system/priv-app2. After your make a backup, delete the stock LGEmail.apk and LGEmail.odex files
3. Download the files attached to this post and put them in the system/app folder
4. Change the permissions of the two new APK's (Exchange2.apk & Email.apk) to rw-r-r (DON'T FORGET TO DO THIS)
4. Once the 2 files (Exchange2.apk & Email.apk) are placed in your system/app folder, click on them and install
5. That's it...close out of your root explorer, open your new email app and set up your exchange account. :good:
I hope this helps users who are looking for a solution to their exchange security issues like I was. Enjoy
Very cool. In the dev thread, it states "The app tells the server what it wants to hear - which is they have total control over the device, but it doesn't really do anything on the phone". Does this appear to be the case for the G3? My company requires the ability to remote wipe the device as well, looking for a way to bypass that.
Not sure it truly disables the company's ability to control your phone rather it just allows you to bypass the password.

if you install xposed, g3 tweaksbox has the option to disable the exchange security, one check box as opposed to the steps listed here

This must have been in the last update. That wasn't there before. Very nice! I agree...much easier to use that (assuming it works).
Can you verify that exchange bypass works? And does it work for the stock LG email app

I tested the tweaksbox bypass but I've had a couple issues where the exchange account got removed when adding other accounts (yahoo). Not sure if this is isolated to me or just a bug in the tweaksbox bypass.

Weird. I installed as directed and I see two options for corporate when addin an account from settings.
The app times out when trying to validate server settings.
EDIT: Do you have the odex files? I think that would help.
LG G3 flies faster than a G6
OG RAZR XT912 got 4.4 before S4
